FINALLY first post of the new year let’s GOOOOOOOOO
Uhhhh mutuals and friends know that I’ve been obsessed with The Last Unicorn and specifically Schmendrick the magician so yeah
This drawing specifically is based on Ghost and Pal’s song “Star of the Show” which is one of my fave songs by them heheeh and it just reminded me of him !! I can’t find the quote because my bestie is borrowing my copy of the book but all the stuff is from where he’s doing tricks at the Midnight Carnival before freeing Amalthea in the book (turning a rabbit into a goldfish that drowned, cup of water into a handful of water, five of spades to a twelve of spades, and a rose into a radish seed, etc.!)
In general, I’ve bought and read all of his short stories, ordered pins and stickers galore and am consuming every fan theory/headcanon and piece of art related to him I just love him he’s so babygirl coded failguy and he’s my boyfriend !!!!!! 💙💚💕 I can never be normal about a character ever I swear teehee Schmendrick is my fave ///
Idk if I like how this came out but it’s digital art so yay! And fanart so double yay! I’ve been off school for the freezing temps and icy roads and also cause of a holiday so I’ve had more time to draw and I hope more practice means this year I will improve! Let’s hope at least (っ´ω｀c)

first impression: I watched tlu when I was like.. four so nothing more complex than omg cool horse
Impression now: Amalthea is so fun I kinda love her. Intermixed with the grief and regret she's so petty and vain and I enjoy seeing that compared to the other characters in tlu. Also I can never get over how much I love her design
Favorite moment: oohohhhhohoh for the film probably when she's talking to shmendrick after mommy fortuna is killed ("I can feel sorrow, but it's not the same thing.." vomits cries screams etc) or when she talks to the butterfly. for the book probably when she's talking to Molly and being all upset at lir and shmendrick. Idky I just love how she worded her dismay
Idea for a story: mmmmmm probably something relating to her interacting w other unicorns, mainly after the plot of the film. Since Amalthea is the last we never get to see her interacting with her own species organically and I wanna see that!!!! Also with how her humanity isolates her from the herd
Unpopular opinion: idk if it's unpopular but I kind of dislike when people over exaggerate Amalthea's grace (ie fanart). Especially if it's her post movie/main climax. Beagle mentions that her grace is threatened while journeying and she isn't as beautiful nor delicate. Then again the movie deliberately enhances her grace....idk I'm just picky
Favorite relationship: whatevr she has with Molly. I don't care if it's platonic or romantic they have something and I love it. I would go into detail but I would very quickly delve into fanfiction territory
Favorite headcannon: she continued to struggle with night terrors after the plot of the film. Its minor but I think abt it a lot. Girl be fucked in the head!!!
