Not to be That Guy but like.
Am I the only one that can't stop thinking about how Tianlang-Jun says about Luo Binghe that he pretends to be cold-hearted like his mother. The hint of fondness there, the heartache in that utterance.
Like it drives me absolutely insane. Imagining her putting on a front of strength, cold and driven and unrelenting. Why does TLJ say that about her. Did she secretly look for solutions that meant reconciling with demons instead of hurting them when her sect wasn't looking? (I wonder this because I feel like his weird fondness for SQQ would lowkey track if it's connected to the woman he once loved.) Did he mean that she was tasked with basically assassinating him and she fell in love with him instead (re: failed step one)? Did he mean that she was fond and doting in her own way (e.g. conceding he was attractive, paying for his exploits and humoring him)? Did he mean that, like LBH, she thought that power would be the thing to protect her--and that it was disguising a person who was deeply and privately wounded? All four????? I don't need sleep I need a n s w e r s
Did she know about the Huanhua Palace Master's skeevy ass intentions before she met TLJ? Or did those only come to significant light after she fell in love with TLJ? Is that why she never anticipated that level of betrayal, because initially she had no intention of being with anyone romantically? And HHPM just assumed she would be under his thumb forever?? Was she furious at her own indiscretion or did she try to use the pregnancy as a bargaining chip, a way to try to stop the immortals of Cang Qiong Mountain from attacking TLJ (plus the bonus of marriage entrapment no takesies backsies this is where LBH gets it from)? Did she try to use that claim on her to dissuade HHPM from his covetous advances, framing herself as tainted so that she could finally escape? Did she dream of a life by TLJ's side, far away from Cang Qiong Mountain?
Like. Literally every single permutation of what this could mean guts me to hell. Do you ever just cry about tianxi because I--[loud bawling noises]
#svsss#tianxi#tianlang jun#su xiyan#like this shit keeps me awake at night#i'm trying to put fic ideas together and every time i go back to that line i just#find myself trying to parse and hone out su xiyan's mannerisms/personality#zzl's descriptions help a great deal but i also love that they're limited in the sense that#1. zzl was clearly scared shitless of/disconcerted with her LMFAO#2. he was suspicious of her (as a cultivator fundamentally) and its fascinating that TLJ did not seem to share this suspicion at all#or one could argue tlj just didn't care beyond his attraction and glee being around her jkahglfdskjhsfkhjg#there is also the hilarious implication that part of what turned tlj on so much about sx is the fact that she could prbly kill him#tlj really said 'i love a woman who can and WILL kick my ass'#'none of that soft power seduction shit manhandle me or nothing'#like he always believed deep down--or at the very least wanted to believe--that she loved both him and lbh dearly#i'm not usually the fix-it fic type but the Way I Need To See Su Xiyan Destroy Huanhua Palace Master's Entire Life.#i just want sx and her boytoy to live happily ever after is that so wrong?#i also think of that person (im so sorry tumblr user i dont rmr who u are at the minute) that said there had to be trust between tlj and sx#because YES. ABSOLUTELY. I AGREE. AND I WANT IT FOR ME#don't mind me just the usual descent into madness anytime i think too hard about svsss#i need to outline damn you airplane and your refusal to expand on LBH's juicy ass backstory#ill never forgive the chinese (joke)

My review of TROS:
As some of you may know, I went to see TROS on the premier night, and I wanted to give myself a full week to think everything through to see what stil stood out to me. See-the-fuck-below:
I want to first say that TROS was honestly better than I thought it would be, however, IT WAS SO RUSHED.
I felt like we the audience had zero time to actually react to what was happening because this movie literally had two, maybe even three, movies crammed into a single one.
Rush Job / Leia:
We weren’t given the opportunity to actually feel as though Chewie had died, or really get to know Dio, or properly grieve Leia-Effing-Organa-Skywalker-Solo.
Like seriously, what the hell was up with that? This woman had given so much to the Star Wars universe, and the characters along for the ride couldn’t even have a minute to respond and process.
It was always just so “Onto the next thing!”, and I hated it.
Poe/Finn/Rose:
I did like that we were able to kind of get a glimpse of Poe’s background a little more, but when he was given the title of ‘General’, I WISHED they would have also given him just an extra five seconds to process and acknowledge this! That was a huge step for every one around him, and for Leia to do, and it was just glossed over.
With Finn, I hated how he interacted with Rose. Those few seconds reminded me of how we deal with an annoying little cousin. Those two characters literally spent an entire movie together, at least show they’re more than strangers.
I do like how it’s more obvious that he’s force sensitive, but I HATE that JJ made it seem as if he was trying to tell Rey that he had feelings for her or some shit. I mean, if you were paying close enough attention, Finn was telling everyone else around him about it, so it made sense that that was what he was also trying to tell Rey (John Boyega has also confirmed via Instagram that Finn was not trying to tell Rey he loved her). It just could’ve been handled differently, and I don’t think Finn’s story had to be based around Rey, of course, until he met Jannah...
Rose - My, my, my. It was such a shame to see her character pushed to the sidelines in such a harsh way. I understand she may not have needed to be such a big character in TROS, however TLJ made me feel like she was part of the gang.
If JJ wanted to exercise his creativity, he could have included her and formed it in a way where it wasn’t so in your face. Instead, after alllll the backlash and harassment Kelly had dealt with, her character was pretty much trashed, and at a time when female friendship was needed in the Star Wars films.
C3PO/Chewie:
I actually loved C3PO’s humor in this one - But part of me did feel a little betrayed about how easy it was for the gang to decide to just destroy his mind (Its rediculous when you think about it lmao). I am not saying it didn’t make sense, I just wish they would have taken only an extra 5 seconds to be like “Mmm... Are we sure?” - But no, it was always “On to the next thing!”
Chewie - Yall already know that I wanted a bigger reaction to the almost-death. Again, literally 5 seconds more could have made the difference.
In addition, it would have been amazing to see Chewie and Ben interact...
Lando:
Okay.
What the actual fuck?
I seriously felt as though I blinked and Lando just popped up with no acknowledgment.
AGAIN.
I was soooo frustrated, because Lando was a big character that I think a lot of people were looking forward to seeing, and the only one excited to be there, was Lando himself.
Everyone just kinda had the reaction of: “Oh, hey.” on screen. WTF!!!
Hux:
The spy, eh? Full on caps-lock-pissy-mode activated.
HOW FUCKING RANDOM AND THROWN IN WAS THAT?! WHAT ABOUT EVERYTHING IN TFA AND TLJ? WHERE WAS THE HELP THEN?? WHY DID HE ALL OF A SUDDEN CARE NOW?!
ALSO, SMALL FUCKING REMINDER, HE STILL WASN’T ON THE RESISTANCE’S SIDE!!!
HE HELPED THEM ONLY TO TAKE KYLO REN DOWN, HE SAID HE DIDN’T GIVE A DAMN WHO WON.
Sorry. The end.
Also, he looked hot af in this movie.
Rey:
Now, let’s get into the heavy.
I, again, hated how rushed this movie was, and that included how they dealt with Rey’s character and growth.
Only one year had passed, you’re telling me she learned all of these powers and moves by Leia? Let’s say that was the case, JUST SHOW US HOW. Even a 10 second clip of just their various training methods or sessions! Anything.
Don’t get me wrong: I know Rey is a Palpatine (Rolling my mf eyes) - so she would obviously be very powerful. But the last we saw of Rey, she was lost and struggling how to move on.
Her saber was broken, she had the Jedi textbooks, and she was lost.
What happened??
Along side this, I was extremely disappointed to find out that she was indeed a Palpatine. I had my theories when TFA came out, but I, along with so many others, loved the fact that she didn’t have to be part of any big name in order to be a strong, self sufficient lead, and I think Rian Johnson did a great job at letting us know and feel that during the mirror/cave scene in TLJ.
Rey’s overall attitude this movie really left a sour taste in my mouth. I get that she was hurt, and angry, and panicking... But, she acted like an ass quite honestly.
But, to me, it kind of played into the dark side of herself, though I wished that was explained a bit more for people that don’t really get into Star Wars as much as we do.
With that said: I wished Rey was still a nobody from Jakku, and that she kept a little bit of her curious/sweet side. And I wished her growth was shown a bit more - Not in just the powers she used against Kylo Ren.
Ben Solo / Kylo Ren:
Can we seriously just take a minute to thank Adam Driver? This isn’t me being up his ass. As an aspiring director, his acting was amazing in this movie, and I feel he really out did himself.
With that said: I, again, hate how everyone’s characters and growth were glossed over in TROS, as if TLJ never happened and it’s really so childish and disheartening. If Abrams wanted to literally skip TLJ, he should have manned up and taken on TLJ himself.
I feel like Kylo Ren was back in his TFA ways; Demanding, with a little charm now. I liked it, but I would have liked it a little more if he actually talked to Rey like a normal human being like he did in TLJ.
(But, Kylo Ren with an attiude? FuCk YeS pLeAsE.)
Ben Solo: Can we all just marry you now? That fucking switch was everything, his ‘Ow’ was everything, his lightsaber throw-age was everything, his interaction with Han was life, and kicking ass and forgetting names was the best fucking time.
I wished he had more lines in the end, literally, how does he barely have any lines as BEN SOLO!!!!
But jesus, the way he literally crawled out of the dark to save Rey was everything.
And that kiss? I could stare at it for hours.
Amazing acting with these characters, brav-fucking-o.
The end (+THAT “death”):
Ben Solo is not dead.
That is not denial.
I think that is the “hope” that JJ kept referring to. There are so many big points that show he isn’t, and I think down the line, we will get another movie with his comeback.
With the end, I hated how Rey didn’t seem to react to his death either, but I think it leads to something bigger: She feels him out there somewhere, in the in-between.
I do not like how she adopted the Skywalker name... I wished she stuck with the “Just Rey.” shit. I lived for that. It’s great, she has some sense of belonging, if that’s what you want to call it... But again, it was thrown together and it isn’t real.
The ending itself was left open: Yellow lightsaber, and walking around on Tattooine? I really doubt she stayed there.
Overall:
I hated how rushed it was, and how JJ tried to erase TLJ (Seriously, if you aim to do that shit to a movie, JUST DON’T TAKE THE JOB, YOU SCARED/POSSESSIVE POS!! Let’s say the movie was split up in two, with the same outcome, but at least TLJ still existed in his world - I would be 100% okay with that!
But, that’s not how it was handled, and we the fandom, were provided a “close” to a saga that we rode with for many, many years just to have it all thrown down the drain without a second thought.
I do believe a LOT of last minute decisions were made, especially with editing. But I sincerely hope that we get a glimpse into the shit that was left out, at least on the DVD extras, or an extended version of the movie (GOD, PLEASE).
When all is said and done:
- Ben Solo will come back.
- Rey’s story will continue.
- Hopefully we have a director that actually cares about the characters and story.
- I am looking forward to the novelization, the Kylo Ren comics, those DVD extras, and once the dust settles I really want to see what JJ and the cast have to say for this shit.

Holonet Exposure
Set in a post TLJ AU where the bond stays open and Rey and Ben have a secret relationship. Everything is going well as it can be during a galactic war, but Rey and Ben were not so careful during their last secret meet up. What happens when some interesting news reaches the resistance?
A/N: I tried writing fic a few years back and decided it wasn’t for me. But then Reylo came along and I was suddenly inspired. This is my first fic in a fandom this huge and I wrote this on my phone at 2 am so please excuse any mistakes.
Hope you like this silly little piece. Let me know if you enjoy it! Hopefully I’ll be inspired to write more fic. Link to Ao3.
-------------------------
“Rey, the meeting is about to start!” Finn called to her.
Rey rolled herself out from underneath the Falcon, wiping the sweat of her face. She rolled her eyes. Another meeting. Rey was all for fighting the good fight but when she joined the resistance she didn’t think she would spend a good portion of her time sitting in the command center listening to people argue.
Oh, so you only like arguing when it’s with me, sweetheart? A voice said in her head.
Well you just make it so much more fun. She responded. Now leave me, I’m sure the Supreme Leader has better things to do.
She could feel him chuckle through the bond. Ah, darling, I’m beginning to think you’re avoiding me. My feelings are hurt.
Rey rolled her eyes again. Come see me tonight, Ben. She told him before cutting off the bond.
Rey honestly was not avoiding Ben, they had both just been busy. They had not been able to have a full length conversation since seeing each other the week before when she managed to sneak away to Chandrila.
“Rey!” Finn called again, “You coming?”
“Yeah, be right there!”
-------------------------
“And that’s all from the supply inventory” Poe announced to the room, “That’s it everyone. Unless anyone else has something to say?”
Rose stood up next to Rey. “Actually, Commander Dameron, I have something I think might be of interest to everyone here. Has anyone seen the latest news on The Daily Holo?”
There were a few groans throughout the room. “Rose, The Daily Holo is a simple gossip site. What possible relevance could it have to us?” General Leia asked.
“Trust me, General. You’re going to want to see this.” Rose went to the holo in the table in the middle of the commander center and pulled up an article.
The room gasped but Rey was frozen in fear. The rotating headline read “Supreme Leader in love?” with a photo of Ben, without a mask and clearly identifiable, kissing a woman passionately. Kissing Rey passionately.
Rey felt like she couldn’t breathe. She waited for what seemed like years for someone to respond. For Finn to look at her with hurt on his face. For Poe to yell at her. For Leia to ask what hell was going on.
“Who is that?” Poe exclaimed.
Rey looked at the photo again. She had been wearing a grey cloak with a hood that Ben had given her upon her arrival to conceal her identity. She had argued that it was dumb, but she was glad she agreed now. The hood covered her hair and half her face. Ben’s face covered the rest. The only part of her skin showing was her hands in Ben’s hair.
“When was this taken?” Finn asked.
“The woman isn’t identified but this was taken last week on Chandrila.” Rose answered.
Chatter exploded in the room, everyone in shock. They only knew the Supreme Leader as a monster. They couldn’t picture him in love.
“Crazy, right? Rose asked looking down at Rey.
Rey cleared her throat, “Umm yeah, crazy.”
General Leia stood, “Okay everyone! Settle down!” The room quieted, “Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Captain Tico, but I fail to see how exactly this is useful to our cause.”
“Well, General, if I may,” Lieutenant Connix began, “perhaps we can use this to our advantage.”
“Yeah! If we can find this girl then maybe we can get some inside information on Ren,” Poe exclaimed. There were mummers of agreement around the room.
“I don’t know, buddy,” Finn said, “I’m not so sure she’d be on our side if we found her. I mean if she’s actually with him.”
“You’re right, Finn. Anyone who would fall in love with Ren is probably as messed up and evil as he is,” Poe laughed.
Rey felt her heart break. They didn’t know it, but these were her friends talking about her and the man she loved. They had been so stupid, thinking they could be together and pretend they weren’t on opposite sides of a war.
Rey, what’s wrong, sweetheart? You seem really upset. Ben spoke through the bond.
Not now, Ben. Rey said as she put her shields up.
“Well, at least we know he has a weak spot! Maybe if we find the girl we can use her as bait,” Poe suggested, “Rose, are there anymore photos? Ones where we can see her face?”
Rose shook her head, “No, this is the only one.”
“Well, Rose, keep an eye on the holonet and give us updates if you have them,” General Organa said, “Now you are all dismissed, back to work.”
Rey couldn’t get away fast enough. She shot out of her seat but not before she heard Snap tell someone, “Bait would only work if Ren actually cared about the girl. Knowing him, she’s probably just some—“
“—Rey.”
Rey turned to find General Organa had caught up to her in the hall.
“Walk with me to my quarters?”
Rey nodded. They walked in silence. It wasn’t unusual for Leia to ask to speak to Rey in private. They often talked about Jedi training or Leia would tell Rey stories, the General even once braided Rey’s hair. The two women had developed a strong bond. Once they reached Leia’s quarters the General started preparing tea as Rey sat at the table in the middle of the room.
“So, what did you think of all that?” Leia asked.
Rey took a breath, “It was...um, interesting.”
Leia hummed. She sat across Rey as she served their tea.
“You know,” Leia mused, “When Ben was just a baby, Han and I used to imagine what his life would be like as an adult.”
Rey smiled. Leia rarely told stories about Ben, but those were the ones Rey cherished the most.
Leia continued, “Ben was such a soft child. I always thought he’d be content to live a simple life. He’d probably settle down early with some demure daughter of a diplomat or something or other. Han laughed at me and told me I was crazy if I thought any son of ours was going to wind up with someone who wasn’t as stubborn and strong-headed as the rest of his family.”
Rey swallowed her tea nervously. She wasn’t sure she wanted to hear Leia’s thoughts of her son’s affair, especially when the woman in question was herself.
“Of course, Han was right. I’m sure he’d be so smug if he knew Ben fell for a stubborn Jedi who’s kicked his ass on multiple occasions.”
Rey choked on her tea. Oh no.
“General—“
“Please, Rey. I’m not an idiot. I knew something was going on. There was no way you had that many ‘visions’ that told you that you needed to spend a week on some planet or another. Not to mention that you never came back from these solo missions with anything except a glowing smile.”
Rey blushed.
“So how long has this been going on?”
Rey started playing with her arm wraps nervously as she answered the General’s questions.
“Since about 3 months after Crait.”
“And how do you communicate? Does the First Order know our location?”
“No!” Rey explained the Force bond to Leia. How they had been able to talk since a few days after Starkiller. She also told her about facing Snoke and who really killed the former Supreme Leader. She told her about Ben’s offer and Rey’s rejection. About how they ignored the bond until Ben had gotten hurt and Rey was worried. About how they healed old wounds and moved from enemies to something more.
“And now,” Rey said with tears in her eyes, “Now, I know how stupid we were. You heard what everyone was saying in there. When they find out that I’m the one with Ben—“
Rey cut herself off.
Leia moved to Rey, hugging her.
“I didn’t mean to lie to you, Leia. Everything got so complicated and we thought we could ignore it. And I thought maybe he would change his mind, but he hasn’t!” Rey looked at Leia as the tears started falling from her eyes, “I love him! I love him and he knows that so why won’t he come home?”
Leia shushed Rey, holding her close. The General has asked the same question about her son many times.
-------------------------
Rey was back in her quarters. After crying to Leia she decided to go back to her room and skip dinner. News of Kylo Ren’s lover would have spread by now and she didn’t want to hear anymore. Suddenly, Rey felt a pulse in the Force. She turned over and saw Ben on her bed with her, smiling sadly.
“I’m guessing you saw the photo?” Ben asked. She nodded in response. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart, we should have been more careful. I’m trying to track down who took the photo.”
Rey huddled further into his embrace. She looked up at him and asked, “How did the First Order react?”
Ben laughed, “Hux went absolutely mental. He demanded to know who the girl was. I almost wanted to tell him just to see his head explode.” Rey slapped his chest playfully. “I told all my officers that my personal life was not their business until I made it their business.”
Rey scrunched her eyebrows together, “What does that mean?”
“Well,” Ben started, “it will be their business when I introduce them to their future empress.”
“Ben,” Rey sighed.
“I know, sweetheart, I know. But you can’t blame a man for dreaming.”
Rey sat up in the bed and looked down at her bondmate, “Ben, what are we doing? Where is this going to end? Because judging by the way people reacted to a photo of you kissing someone — just a person, not even me — I don’t see this ending the way either of us want.”
Ben pulled Rey back down to his chest. “I don’t know, darling, I really don’t know,” he said as he stroked her hair, “I know that I’m happy with you, though. I know that I love you. I know that I never want to be away from you.”
“Come home, Ben. Please.” Rey pleases as she began to cry.
“Shhh, Rey. Not yet. One day, but not yet. Will you wait for me, darling?”
Rey nodded, “I love you.”
“I love you too, Rey. Now rest.”
Rey relaxed. It wasn’t an answer, it didn’t solve their problems and she was sure they’d have this conversation many more times before everything was settled. But it was enough for now. Rey could feel Ben drifting to sleep, and she realized she forgot to tell him something else important.
“Ben, there was something else I needed to tell you”
“Hmm”
“Your mother knows about us.”
“WHAT?”

Why Ben Solo Died
So I have quickly fallen into the Ben Solo hole. Literally as of January 10th I hadn't read a single thing about Reylo or Kylo Ren beyond having seen The Force Awakens in 2015. I had a son in 2016 and my husband and I didn’t love Rogue One so when The Last Jedi came out we shrugged and went on with our lives. Now we did visit WDW in 2018 and had pictures with Chewie and Kylo (my husband is a Kylo/Sith fan) - me it was a cool story but that was it. Come January 14 - my company does a massive firing and to cope with it I go to my Everlark A03 list and start to read. I had been on Tik Tok earlier and someone had posted the “I Need a Hero” video with Ben Solo kicking ass. so  I had this thought - “let me look up Ben and Rey on A03.”
I was hooked - started reading all of this fanfiction, looking up fanart, got back on Tumblr just like in 2014 when I fell for Everlark. Now I talked to a couple people at work and knew I needed to see the movies and finally talked my husband into watching the Sequel series and watching TROS in theaters on Saturday (1/25). I know why everyone is hurt. Ben had his redemption but his Happily Ever After - or even the acceptance by those who knew he had turned his back on the darkness was cut short. Everyone is blaming JJ Abrams for crap writing and Disney for rushing the sequels but in watching all three last week its a really good story. Here’s why I believe they killed Ben off and didn’t say goodbye in the end:
#GirlPower
Now I’m going to get yelled at by someone who says thats bullshit or unfair or whatever but let me explain.
In the original trilogy they made a strong female character in Leia as we know its takes reading into older movies to find the #girlpower but its almost always there - just gotta realize what the women are doing - they are all strong in their own way BUT Leia was not the main character - Luke was.
In the prequel trilogy again another strong female character in Padme but the issue here was she didnt have a lot of screentime - Obi Won and Anakin were the focus of these movies.
So when Disney decided to continue what did they do? Write a strong female character in Rey but instead of the man being the focus they wanted Rey to be the saviour and leader with the help of Leia. Here’s where they found issues - they made the character that everyone knew from Canon and his history very appealing. They did not expect to have the redemption of Ben Solo be of focus. They knew they needed a bad guy and fans loved him after TFA - evident when you go to their merchandise or parks but the plan was to kill him or do a quick save like Vader at the end of the movies - but he wasn’t ever going to survive because they needed that final shot to be of Rey. To show a woman could carry a series and live without a man.
The only reason we got the redemption we did (again all my speculation) is because of Rian Johnson and the story he started in TLJ and the storyline of the Skywalkers - he couldnt end up bad. Now I do believe they have left the door open to continue Rey and Ben’s story but the question is will they because of comments made “This is the end of the Skywalker story” etc. Also do Daisy and Adam want to continue the story? I DO NOT want to see anyone else play those characters but with Adam’s rise in fame its going to be hard to get anything done - and they cant wait. I do agree a quick series in Disney+ like the WandaVision would be the best option. Showing her getting him back from the WBW if thats possible.
I purchased the extended version books this weekend to continue my obsession and if you notice I am all about posting this right now. I cant wallow any longer but i wanted to put my thoughts out there as to why Ben was killed as quickly as he was once he truly showed who he was and had nothing after.
Edit: Additional thought- JJ’s initial goal with Kylo was to create another Vader. No one refers to him as Anakin (prior to the prequels) but as Vader. The fact that he came back to the light for his son didn’t matter to anyone - he was always known as Vader. He’s one of those classic villain characters. JJ supposedly loves Star Wars and probably wanted to create a character just as memorable as Vader. That was his goal with Kylo Ren but unlike Vader who really has very little humanity until the very end we got Kylo/Ben and saw his humanity in TFA. This is why his redemption had to be stronger than Vader’s- Kylo had more humanity and we as humans want humanity to thrive. This is why we are upset about how quickly Rey gets over Ben. It’s not the fact that he died, had no lines, or whatever it’s that his mourning did not fit his plot line in the story. JJ had to bring in Palpatine because Kylo wasn’t strong enough to just flip at the end or be the evil baddie that Dey beats to have eternal happiness. he needed to do more than just take one second to throw someone off a cliff as Vader does and giving of his life to someone who is dead is so much stronger - plus it’s groundbreaking in Star Wars and ties back to Anakin so well. But again this conversation wouldn’t have happened if we had gotten one more minute of Rey grief or a quick force ghost from Leia saying thank you for my son. Something that says one of Rey’s goals is accomplished because honestly them laughing and hugging at the end said none of that. Even her taking the Skywalker name was an “eh” moment. I didn’t need Ben as a ghost or with her at the end but I wanted a tear something more than “Ben!” And move on. That’s where I think JJ got his wish.
Also you can tell Ben Solo was never end game because there is a decidedly lack of Ben Solo merchandise. Come one Funko just one figurine if Ben Solo doing their shrug in the black sweater - is it too much to ask for?

Rey was too powerful in TROS
Before anyone attacks me with a variety of anons and disingenuous insults, let me clarify. I have no problem at all with either a female-led film or a powerful woman being one of the central characters in a story. Given the sheer number of overpowered and over skilled men in modern media, we're still decades behind on evening out the male/female scale in action and sci-fi movies. All of that being said, I stand by my original statement... they made Rey too powerful in The Rise of Skywalker.
Let's backtrack a moment here.
2015... The Force Awakens is released, and no this doesn't have anything to do with my disappointment that they set up Finn as the protagonist but then dropped all of that for the sequels (I am salty though). At the film's climax, Rey, who was revealed to be Force-sensitive, engaged Kylo Ren in a lightsaber duel. As we all know, she kicked his ass (and sadly gave him that scar that everyone focused on for the remainder of his screentime). I know a bunch of people whined about that. "How can a girl who's never held a lightsaber before beat a trained man?!" Disappointing but predictable from the fandom. I personally had no problem with it. Yes, Kylo was trained, but he was trained in lightsaber combat by Luke and then presumably Snoke later on. The type of fights he fought in no doubt had rules and regulations, though I could be wrong on that matter. Rey, on the other hand, grew up for at least a decade (if not longer) in a desert planet outside of the New Republic, where she had to learn to defend herself against all threats by herself. She didn't have guards or subjects, she was just Rey (and I'll touch on that again in a moment).
So Rey beating Kylo wasn't a big deal. It fit within the canon, and as kich as some people disliked it, it made sense given the information we had at the time.
Cut to The Last Jedi, which yes, I know it divided the fandom. I have issues with in (namely in how it treated everyone but Kylo, but I digress) but Rey's story on Ahch-To was another one of those things that fit. Rey was strong in the Force, exceptionally strong, and we saw her do some great stuff involved with connecting to the Living Force while training under Luke, but once again, that was to be expected. She was at the first ever Jedi temple sitting above a dark-side nexus, like the tree on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. Was it pressing things a bit that she became so powerful after only two days of training that wasn't really training? A little, but when she moved that mountain of fallen rocks and rubble on Crait to free the Resistance, she was emotional, and Finn was there. The revelation that he was Force-sensitive in this last movie (we already knew) further enforces the idea that it was an subconscious combination of their powers that moved those rocks out of the way.
Once again, totally plausible within the constructs of Star Wars.
But then we get to The Rise of Skywalker, and that's where everything goes sideways. Putting aside the fact that they waited until the eleventh hour to reveal that Leia had been trained as a Jedi, too, we saw Rey train under her tutelage. She became more proficient with a lightsaber and augmenting her senses and telekinesis and whatnot. Even her Force-suggestion ability was improved from when we saw it in TFA. The problem comes on the desert planet (how many desert planets are there?) of Pasaana.
We start off with that Force bond between her and Kylo, which was explained to be a fabrication made by Snoke, but sike! Turns out it was real the whole time, leading to this weird thing where they can suddenly pull things through time and space via the Force. Then we move along and suddenly she can heal using the Force, something that we could have seen, I don't know, back in TFA when Finn was severely injured in his duel with Ren! But, whatever, she might have learned that from the sacred Jedi texts she took from Ahch-To, no big deal. Then she manages to stop a star ship in the sky. Really? And then, to make it even better, she uses Force Lighting, an ability that was only practiced by the Sith and only after years of training. Not even Darth Maul could use that ability, but Rey just manages to manifest it by pure instinct?
I call bullshit!
They (Disney and J.J.) really went out of their way to turn her into a Deus Ex Machina for this movie, spontaneously developing any Force power she needs for the situation at hand. That is some of the laziest writing I've ever witnessed. And none of that even touches on the fact that they decided to make her a Palpatine. As I've said before, I had my issues with TLJ, but the one thing I liked was the revelation that Rey wasn't powerful because she was related to any big powerful family. She was just powerful by her own merit, which we need more of. I loved the message that anyone can be a hero, because they're made by our choices, not born out of blood. They completely walked back on all of that by making Rey a Palpatine, ensuring that all future generations remember her being sp powerful because she was the granddaughter of the Emperor. They went out of their way to reinforce the idea that Rey wasn't powerful just by herself, but because she was related to a powerful man.
Just to reiterate at the end here, I have no problem with a powerful woman being the center of this story, but they overpowered Rey to a ridiculous degree, to the point where most of this story could have been removed if she'd just used all of those powers.

Why I don’t like Rey?
I’m not the type of person to make these type of posts, but yesterday I saw a post of someone, really upset with some people who hates Rey, saying they are sexist, and fanboys, and she is not wrong in a way. There are out there people, mainly guys, who hates Rey because she is a woman, but not everyone who hates Rey are men, and sexist and fanboys. I’m a girl, I LOVE seeing woman on screen kicking ass, I LOVED when Leia just HUMILIATE Han and Luke in ANH when they were rescuing her, I LOVED when Padmé didn’t need Obi Wan and Ani in Geonosis, BUT I HATE REY! And NO it is not because she is girl, actually when I found out the protagonist of the ST was a girl, I was super happy, until I saw the movies and saw not only how bad this character was written, and what was her main purpose in the story, and yes Rey was made to show that Women can be independent, strong, and better then the guys, (nothing wrong with that) But for that to happened they shame and disrespect Luke, the ACTUAL HERO OF THE SAGA and THE MOST POWERFUL JEDI IN THE GALAXY. They could have make her that without that. It is my opinion, you don’t have to agree with that and I respect that, just like I respect people who actually like Rey.
I liked Rey in TFA, until I really saw that everyone was right: she IS A MARY SUE and it made me laugh how people is so butthurt, because of that and try to say that Luke was a Gary Sue (male version of Mary Sue) too, which it shows they don’t know what a Mary Sue is.
Rey is a bad written character, with no character arc whatsoever. When we met her she can beat the crap out of three guys alone with her stick, she speaks droid, she speaks Wookiee (how? because she lives alone in Jakku since she was a little girl and I don’t think she ever was near a droid or a Wookiee but somehow she understands them). I don’t remember Luke understanding R2 or Chewie when he met them, he is surround by droids in his home, and even after spending years with him, he only understands R2 through a translation computer device on his X-Wing, YEAH! She never flew the Millennium Falcon but she can do things without knowing how (people here use the excuse that it is the force, yeah right), she even knows more about the Falcon then Han himself, she never was in Eravana before, but somehow she knows where to go and move around like she is being there since forever, Luke/Anakin’s saber called for her when she is not even bloody relate to them so why the F**** the saber calls for her, and don’t come with the BS that is the force, LOL. Then somehow she can overdue Kylo when he tries to read her mind, and then like the powerful, independent woman, who less than an HOUR AGO thought that LUKE AND JEDY WERE  F******** MYTH, out of nowhere this girl knows how to do a Jedi Mind trick. Some try to excuse this by telling that Kylo made her remember things, which is strange because what memories? since she was left there by her parents and as far as we know she never trained shit or that she get all that from Kylo. Really? Rey now is USB and download everything from Kylo to her, find another stupid excuse. Then, never having any training whatsoever, she beats Kylo and all she needed to do was close her eyes and feel the force. WTF???? HOW SHE KNEW HOW TO DO THAT WHEN HOURS BEFORE SHE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE FORCE WAS??? And don’t come with the excuse that “Kylo was injured” yes and he beat Finn an well train Stromtrooper. Right?
Then in TLJ, she is even more powerful. Unlike what people tried to say, LUKE NEVER TRAINED HER. She spends 3 days with him and the only thing he does is making sitting on a rock and feel the force, until she cracks the floor and Luke, Who face worst things then this, suddenly feels afraid of her. COME ON!! Without any training, this girl, know how to duel, how to be a Jedi IN A WEEK!! Yes people TFA and TLJ events happens in a WEEK. Not to mention she beats LUKE in a fight. This pathetic girl BEATS THE MOST POWERFUL JEDI IN THE GALAXY. I think aging also made Luke forget everything, apparently.
Then in the TROS, JJ tried to shove us by showing her training, Like she needs any training now. REALLY??? She can levitate, she can heal like Jesus F**** Christ and nothing happens to her whatsoever, she is now the best Pilot in the Resistance, when in TFA we learn that Poe was the best pilot, but now is REY and without her they can’t win. WHAT? she can stop a ship from flying away, she force lighting just like that, she can do flips and jump over fighters, she is not a jedi she is a GOD!! She is pathetic, that what she is. She can do everything without consequences. Kylo brings her back to life,(because why not, The force now is over the top with teleportation, and force skype, and all this BS)  and he dies right after and disappears. While Rey, is dead for more than a minute, but she doesn’t disappear whatsoever. How convenient. And you have the audacity to tell me that she is NOT A MARY SUE? And let’s not mention the fact she steals everything for the Hero of the Skywalker Saga: his lightsaber, his father’s legacy and his name. Because now she is Rey Skywalker! THE F***** she is. She is not a Skywalker and Never will be.
On the other hand let’s see the REAL Hero: Luke. When we met him, he was this whiny, immature farm boy, complaining about everything, But we know about him. We know his father was dead and he lived in the moister farm with his uncle and aunt, he is a good pilot because he says, Ben said it, he wants to go to the Academy and even Biggs say that, we know he shots womp rats. and in the first 2 movies he has his ass kicked and needs to be rescue by his friends, don’t believe me? He was beaten by Sand People, he was beaten in the cantina and both times saved by Obi Wan, he was almost crashed in the trash compactor and saved my R2. In Empire he is attacked by a Wampa, and he is rescue by Han, he almost died in Bespin and he is rescue by Leia. He is training by Ben and then by Yoda and the training in Dagobah last 3 weeks, and between ANH and ESB, 3 years had passed and only in Empire we see Luke used the force by taking the lightsaber out the ice, during the training, and calling for Leia at the end. and he LOST A LOT IN THE FIRST 2 MOVIES: He lost his family, he lost his mentor, he failed to complete the training, he failed to save Han, he lost his lightsaber duel with Vader, and lost his hand. What dear Rey Lost in the first two movies? NOTHING! Not even in the third movie. And don’t say she lost Han, a guy she met for a hour. Luke knew Ben since he was little boy.
Then in ROTJ we saw a mature Luke. More powerful, more confident, more wise, more calm. It is only in THIS MOVIE we saw Luke doing the Jedi Mind trick and he knows what it is because he saw Ben doing in a ANH. And he’s more powerful because he is being training for a year. So if you still think he is a Gary Sue, i advice to go watch the OT and search for the meaning of a Gary Sue.
So YES I HATE REY BECAUSE OF THIS. SHE WAS MADE TO MAKE LUKE LOOK BAD AND BE THE HERO AND THE CHOSEN ONE, BY HUMILIATING THE REAL HEROS OF THE SAGA: LUKE AND HIS FATHER. THAT IS WHY I HATE REY.
Now if people like Rey, good for you. I will not tell you are dumb and stupid and not a star wars fan for liking her. For me I grew up with the OT and for me those are the only good movies out there. if you grew up with the prequels and think they are your movies, good. the same with the ST, but don’t come to me, saying that I'm a sexist and a fanboy or fangirl because I don’t like your precious little Rey. People don’t like Luke, MY FAVORITE CHARACTER AND I DON’T CALL THEM NAMES. So stop this stupid whiny comments about: Why people don’t like Rey? and please never, ever trying to compare her with Leia or even Padmé cause that I will say: it is ridiculous.
And one more thing: I HATE REY NOT DAISY, who like John Boyega were screw in this ST with their bad written characters. They are both amazing actors and because there was no planning, and RJ and JJ were both busy screwing themselves by retcon with what one of them did in their movies, that we end with this mess of a characters and movies.

Natural Instinct - Chapter 8 - FINAL (Poe Dameron/Reader)
SUMMARY: Reader and Poe discover what happened to BB-8 and Finn, and with a great deal of hesitation, the reader attempts to say her goodbyes to Jakku.
WARNINGS: Strong language
PAIRING: Poe Dameron/Reader
A/N: This is the final chapter of this little fic! I'm considering doing a part 2, but I'm not quite sure about it yet considering timelines and my brain. It's a finnicky thing, that brain. I would, however, love to hear your ideas on what you would like to see if I WERE to do a part 2, including but not limited to timeline (as in coinciding with TLJ, TFA, or afterward, etc...), relationship stuff, and whatever you would really be interested in. Getting opinions would really help to formulate a plotline. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the final chapter! I have loved this story and loved the readers who have said so many wonderful things and helped move everything along! Enjoy!
CHAPTER INDEX:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

CHAPTER 8 – FAMILY
It was the most comfortable part of Jakku’s days: early sunrise, when the cold was beginning to abate but the sun’s rays weren’t yet harsh. Everything was as soft as the desert planet could be, a blinking haze that was there and gone too quickly. It was at this time that Poe finished his work on the speeder. Ergel was awake early, as always, preparing for the upcoming customers with the languorous ease of having done the same thing every day for years. When I watched through the door in the back, flipping stools rightside up off the tabletops, it hit me that soon my days would be fresh. I wouldn’t wake up every morning with the same dread of getting my hands dirty, only to be rewarded with nothing.
The goodbye was quick and awkward. I’d never seen Ergel’s emotions roused beyond a goodhearted chuckle, and he didn’t disappoint with our final encounter. Whatever we felt was kept in a quick hug and admonitions of safety; anything else would have been beyond two Jakku residents. Even if it didn’t seem right, and even if we would have liked it to be different, everything came and went with the wind on the sand. It was all we knew. I hoped, while I watched Poe make his final adjustments on my poor excuse of a vehicle, that something might finally be concrete.
Once the sun made its last leg beyond distant dunes, we left Cratertown. I drove the speeder, nagged by the assumption that Poe was holding himself back from correcting my every move. He rode behind, uncharacteristically silent. He was likely just focused on finding BB-8, always scanning the landscape as we went, but I liked to think that he respected my need for quiet. The goodbye with Ergel was a simple thing, easy to comprehend and accomplish. I was afraid that saying goodbye to Jakku would be a far more difficult process.
I wanted to take the lead and feel myself hovering over the plain, undisturbed sands, with my hand urging the machine along and my decision kicking up dirt. I was doing this for myself, and I would leave that knowledge behind, even if the tracks were temporary.
Poe immediately contacted the Resistance base once our comlink connected with the communications tower. He briefly informed them of his situation, of where he would be, and that he was bringing a recruit along. That sent my pulse rocketing against my skin.
I parked the speeder on the outskirts of Niima, hoping that a scavenger wouldn’t pick it out and take it for themselves, before figuring it shouldn’t matter anyhow. Let the scavenger’s pick it apart; hopefully, it would buy someone a good meal or two. We started forward, Poe with a wrapped cloth—courtesy of Ergel—around his head to keep his face partially cloaked. However, once we were amid the settlement, it was obvious The First Order had already come and gone. Scrap-metal—with the charred remnants of Tie Fighter shots blown across the surfaces—skittered around Niima. There were deep craters in the sand from an aerial onslaught. Unkar’s junkyard, a collection of ships, gears, and weapons he inherited or illegially swideled, was an even bigger wreck than I’d heard it to be. One of his best ships was blown to bits, and another had apparently been stolen, according to bits and pieces of gossip.
“I’m grateful for a great many things,” Poe said, blinking around at the wreckage. “But shit am I happy that that comm tower wasn’t shot down.”
I nodded. “We need to drive the speeder to Unkar’s Concession Stand.”
“Alright. Mind explaining why?”
“Because we need to get some information,” I said, looking over at him. “And around here, it doesn’t come cheap.”
“I will never forget what that stupid, ungrateful scavenger girl did to me!”
Unkar was livid, so much so that I nearly regretted bringing the speeder along as payment. He may have offered up his information for free, considering how spurned he was. The Crolute was still behind a barred window, muttering under his breath and screaming over his shoulder every now and again to anyone who would listen.
“First she refuses to sell that droid, like a fool, and then-"
“A droid?” Poe stepped forward, keeping his face within the cloth and a pair of goggles over his eyes. “What kind of droid?”
“The one the fuckin’ First Order would have paid for! That’s what kind!”
“What happened?” I asked. “Where did the droid and your scavenger girl end up?”
“What’s it to you?” Unkar asked, leaning a blobby pink forearm down against the counter. “Why would you care?”
Although the First Order probably thought that Poe and I were dead, along with their defecting stormtrooper, I still stalled. Giving Unkar too much information might bite us in the ass. He was obviously willing to sell anything, if it gave him a shiny credit in return.
“Why we care is none of your concern, pal.” Poe said, folding his arms. “We’re here to buy information; not be scrutinized.”
“Ah, a negotiator,” Unkar grabbed either side of the metal plates lining down his front, stretching to full height. “Who says this speeder is worth what I have to say?”
“You flatter yourself too much,” Poe said lazily, as if he had bartered a thousand times before. “Besides, this speeder has been refitted with a new carburetor, not to mention entirely scanned for product replacement. The engine has been scrubbed, the balance has been perfected, and I can almost guarantee just with a glance that she will run better than anything you have stashed in your junkyard.”
Unkar regarded him heavily, drumming thick, sausage-like fingers against the countertop. I kept my face as impassive as possible. If he was trying to get a read on how desperate we were, I didn’t intend to give anything away.
“I respect your confidence, stranger,” Unkar said finally, slapping a palm on the table with so much ferocity it made me twitch. “A scavenger girl of mine happened across a droid a couple of days ago. I recognized it as the one the First Order was looking for, so I offered to pay her for it. Handsomely.
“Of course, considering the brat she is, she refused to sell. I tried to get it through alternative measures, you understand, but that’s when the kriffing First Order nearly blew up Niima. Girl and the droid got away on one of my ships,” Unkar spit, a low grumble in his throat. “Stole it from me, along with a dark-skinned human in dark clothes I’d never seen before who stumbled in nearly screaming for water not an hour before. Ungrateful! After everything I’ve done for her!”
I turned to Poe. “Do you think…?”
“I do,” he said, nodding. “Finn.”
We turned from Unkar’s Concession Stand without another word, although we heard the questioning calls that followed. As we walked on, we passed scavenger stations, with a few of the poor souls Unkar ruled over scrubbing away at bits of scraps. Just looking at them had me feeling guilty; why did I deserve a ticket out? Yet again, most of them wouldn’t know how to survive outside of this lawless, unforgiving planet. They had built roots here, regardless of how bitter they were.
“BB-8 and Finn are out there somewhere,” Poe said, once we were out of earshot. The sun beat down mercilessly on us without the bit of shade the stand provided. “Hopefully still out of First Order hands.”
“They’ve made it this far,” I said. “It’s miraculous, to be honest with you.”
“I would share the news to have our supporters across the galaxy watch out for them and the ship they stole, but I don’t trust that this communications tower is secure.”
“I can almost guarantee you it’s not.” I swiped a hand across my forehead, wishing I had more water. “What’s the ETA on your rescue party?”
“Our rescue party?” Poe grinned. “They’ll be fast. Jess will be flying point to get us home, I’m sure of it.”
“Jess?”
“A member of my squadron,” he said. “Great friend, better pilot. You’ll get to know everyone soon enough.”
The Resistance was fast, obviously eager to get their best pilot back. When the transport ship landed on the coordinates sent through to the comlink, a starfighter named Jessika Pava came running out the transport as soon as the hatch docked, ran to Poe, and embraced him without thought or hesitation. I was taken aback at first. Firstly, because I didn’t realize the Jess he had been referring to to be a woman, and secondly because it made me feel all the more an outsider, one just trying to fit in and wondering whether or not her efforts would ever come to fruition. I was already raw on the inside. Leaving Jakku meant embracing the hope of a better life, a more purposeful one, but I’d never kept my faith in hope. Trusting Poe was the small push I needed to jump in, but was it enough?
“You must be (Y/N),” Jess said, releasing Poe and holding out a hand for me to shake. She was a petite woman, with deep-set eyes that were as black as Onyx stone and a round face that gave her the look of someone friendly. I took her hand, forcing a small smile.
“That’s me,” I said.
“You’ll have to tell me what happened to you two,” she said, looking up at me with her hands on her hips. “You both look like shit.”
“Look it, feel it,” Poe said, coming to stand beside me. “We’ll spill the details later. But before that, we need to send word to the Resistance; BB-8 is MIA.”
“We’ll get eyes looking out for him,” Jess said. “For now, let’s get out of here.”
They both turned to leave but I felt my boots stick to the sand, unwilling to move. Jakku was sucking me in, refusing to let me leave, even though there were no sinking fields in this area. I can’t do this, was the only thought I had, replayed over and over until the sweat was coming from a heat within my body, a fearful, flaming doubt. Jess turned questioningly when I wouldn’t move, and Poe stopped in his tracks. He said something to her, so softly I couldn’t distinguish the words, and when the woman continued toward the transport, Poe backtracked to me. When he got close enough for me to see his eyes—finally visible without those maddening goggles—I looked away.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I can’t do this.”
“Of course you can.”
“No,” I insisted, shaking my head, looking off and back toward Niima. “You don’t understand Poe, I just… I can’t.”
“Okay then help me understand,” I felt his large, calloused hands on my cheeks turning my face toward his. “Tell me why.”
I swallowed, tasting the dirt that coated the insides of my mouth. “I don’t think I can ever be like you, like Jessika. There’s so much history already, so much war and I’ve been nothing but an outsider in it until just a few days ago. Being a survivor is one thing, but a warrior? I’m not like you, Poe.”
Poe shifted his weight, worrying his lower lip again. It went against his usual character, against the emotions he chose to show, but I thought he might be genuinely concerned, maybe even afraid. He wasn’t blinking, just staring at me, whatever wheels that constantly turned in his mind building up steam.
“Who ever said you needed to be like me?” he finally said, offering a small smile, although the worried creases between his eyebrows remained. “It will be a transition, I won’t lie. A huge, life-changing one. Things will be difficult. You’ll be putting your life on the line for something that you haven’t had a stock in until recently; I get it. But I just need you to trust me; I need you to hope.”
I closed my eyes and let out a frustrated sigh. “I don’t know how.”
“You’ll learn,” when I didn’t respond immediately, Poe stepped closer, threading his fingers through my hair along the side of my head and interlocking them behind. “Baby I’m not leaving you here.”
“I’ve done fine on my own.”
“You’ve barely lived,” he said, a bit of an edge to his voice that I hadn’t heard since the interrogation with Ren. “We’ve been through hell together, we’ve survived just off one another, and you think I’m just going to leave you behind? The Resistance is a family because when people go through shit together it creates a bond that doesn’t just go away. You are my family now,” he pressed his forehead against mine, digging the pads of his fingers into the base of my skull. “I can’t leave you. You lose so many fucking people in this business; I can’t lose you too.”
If I dug deep enough, if I let go of the restraints, I knew I felt the same. But it would take a while to get there.
“Do you trust me?” he asked, placing a quick peck on my lips.
I did, underneath it all. There was a small enough part of me that wanted to melt into him, to let go of every reserve and leave it behind. The sun hadn’t burned everything away. Somewhere, I was more than just a piece of Jakku.
“Yes,” I said.
He swept me into his arms and before I could squeak in surprise he kissed me. The hands once interlaced behind my head connected at the small of my back, pushing me into him until my hips met his. My grip automatically shifted from the front of his shirt to the back of his neck, aligning our bodies and allowing me to touch the waves of his hair I adored so much. Poe’s tongue was in my mouth, his lips nearly swallowing mine whole and his teeth colliding with mine in a way that was both shocking and pleasurable at the same time. Every bit of me was fire. For the first time in my life I felt truly needed. Poe kissed me like I was a mirage come to life, drinking me up, sucking my tongue into his mouth and sliding his hands down until he could grip my ass.
Poe hummed into my mouth, taking my bottom lip between his teeth and pulling gently before releasing it. “You have no idea how badly I want to get back to base right now.”
I rubbed my nose against his. “Is this your way of trying to convince me to come with you?”
“Maybe a little?”
“You’re terrible.”
He pulled his head away to look at me, and to ensure I could look at the mischievous grin on his face. “No, what’s terrible are the things I’m going to do to you when we get there.”
I didn’t know whether to be panicked or ridiculously turned on; probably, a mixture of both.
“Dameron!” Jess called from the transport. “Stop sucking off the girl’s face and get on the ship!”
Poe’s grin only widened. “She would never do that; she likes me too much.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Ready?” he asked, gripping my hand.
I looked back, fingers threaded through his, a piece of the future in my hand and a vision of the past in my eyes. The sun’s rays painted quivering waves of heat above the horizon, and the reflections bounced back into the sky. It was strangely beautiful, the violent reds and oranges of a sunset, perhaps the last I would see on Jakku. Poe gripped me tighter, a reminder that he was still there. I was surprised that deep within me I began to feel less turmoil and a little more peace. I had fought so long to stay alive; but the galaxy was bigger than survival, and I wanted to know more than hunger, more than heat, more than just the speck of myself.
And I wanted Poe Dameron.
Within a breath, I squeezed his hand in return and faced him, away from the sun.
“Let’s go home.”

The Last Jedi review, sorta
I don’t think I’ve talked enough (if at all) about what a huge Star Wars nerd I am on this blog, mostly because I didn’t love TFA as much as most people seemed to and I just never joined in the renewed fandom frenzy.
TL;DR on my views on TFA: It was fun enough, some interesting new characters, beautiful visuals, but I’d seen that movie before.  It came out in ‘77 and it was much better then.  Homage is one thing, rip off is completely another.  Mostly, I guess I was just disappointed that they didn’t dare to try and move the universe forward a bit, beyond the already trodden path.
Say what you will about the prequels, but I will always, always maintain there’s nothing wrong with them a better script and director couldn’t fix.  George tries, bless him, but he can’t write dialogue worth a damn.  Not even Meryl Streep could’ve made the line “So love has blinded you” any better than Natalie Portman did, and both she and Hayden have proven themselves to be much better actors than they were in Star Wars.  I’m not bothering with Ewan because he was one of the few really great things about the Prequels.
That having been said, what George can do is weave a decent background story, and the Prequel Trilogy’s story is much, much richer than the OT’s.  Taking off our nostalgia-colored glasses for a moment, let us be honest: the OT was so successful because it did a very simple thing, and did it well, and had a cast with wonderful chemistry. The story itself is nothing to rave about: just your simple Evil Empire vs Plucky Rebels story.  But the Prequels actually got political and much darker than the OT did, they just did it clumsily.  Still, it was something new in the Star Wars universe and George always tried to expand the known worlds by giving us even small glimpses of other cultures and planets.  Don’t forget that Star Wars was never meant to be high-brow Science Fiction a la Philip Dick, but a space adventure.  This doesn’t mean that the story can’t have nuance, but the point of Star Wars was always to be a fairytale exploration of a fictional galaxy.
Compared to that, the new trilogy seemed extremely lacking to me.  And seeing The Last Jedi a few days ago really cemented that.  Never before have I seen so many things happening in one movie while nothing really happens at all.  It makes Attack of the Clones look interesting in comparison, and that’s saying a lot.  ALSO LUKE, WTF HAS THE MOUSE DONE TO MY SPACE SON, THE FUCKING GALL.
So yes, surprise-surprise, TLJ manages to rip off Empire (with a dash of Battlestar Galactica thrown in for good measure) and does so poorly.  It was not a terrible film by any means, but I honestly thought it was no better than Phantom Menace. And Phantom Menace had the Duel of Fates.  So.
(okay, to be fair, TLJ didn’t have Jar Jar so that’s one point in its favor)
In a nutshell:
(cut for spoilers)
THE GOOD
- Poe.  Poe was good. Moar Poe, there was a serious lack of Poe in TFA and it has been rectified, this was a very good decision.
- The silent scene.  Y’all know the one.  People in my theater literally gasped in unison.  I was bored outta my skull up until then and as soon as I realized what Holdo was about to do, I sat up, all ‘oshit’ and it was amazing.  Beautifully shot, beautifully clever, and the most badass hero death in the SW universe.  Only comes in second in terms of best scene in the movie because the other one involved a more established and beloved character.
- MY SON LUKE KICKING HIS NEPHEW’S ASS LIKE IT AIN’T NO BIG THANG.  In full disagreement over how shit went down between them in the past, but Luke showing Kylo who’s the most goddamn powerful Jedi in the galaxy (which Luke did canonically become in later years btw) was such a rewarding scene.  Also, he was dressed in black.  Like in ROTJ. Because fuck yeah.
- Rey’s parentage.  Most people probably hated that she’s not a Skywalker but I just... kinda loved the suggestion that she was the Force’s answer to Kylo?  It’s happened before with Anakin, so this isn’t exactly new, and Anakin, too, came from ‘nothing.’ I liked it.  She doesn’t have to have illustrious parentage to be important in the series, and as much as I love my Space Drama Queen clan, it’s time the universe moves on from the Kardashians of the galaxy.
- Luke’s death.  I don’t agree with 99% of what went down with Luke in this trilogy, I think it was deeply out of character, but his ending?  That was spot on.  Did I want more out of his storyline? Obviously, but examined in a vacuum, his ending was beautiful to me.  Especially that last scene.  Best scene in the movie from start to end.
- Yoda manipulating the goddamn heavens to rain thunder upon the ancient tree.  Ilu Yoda
- Leia and Holdo discussing Poe.  This was an A+++ short scene. Get it, ladies.
- Snoke is gone, thank the heavens.  Worst-named villain in movie history, I couldn’t stop laughing every time someone said SUPREME LEADER snoke.
- CRYSTAL FOXES OMG
- Luke getting his kicks in that boring-ass island via EXTREME ROD FISHING, lmao the nerd
THE MEH
- So, um... Kylo and Rey?  ....ew? (did they not think Finn and Rey were super cute or)
- So, um... Finn and Rose?  ....ookaaaay? (did they not see Poe biting down on his lip when he saw Finn in his jacket or)
- I don’t really care for ships in this trilogy tbh, whatever.  Guess I’m steering clear from attachment until I know who’s related to whom (THIS IS A DANGEROUS UNIVERSE TO SHIP IN OKAY).  Plus, not really feeling particularly strong toward any couple, just... not Kylo and Rey, ew.
- Rose.  I liked her, but... they hardly gave her anything to do.  That casino storyline was such a mess, made it seem like she was there just to be there.
- Finn’s storyline. Snoozefest.  I like him, but... see above.
- lol wtf happened to Chewie...? He was just... there?
THE BAD
- SPACE-WALKING LEIA.  I’M SORRY, OKAY, I know this scene will be big with many people, and lord knows I wanted to see Space Mom use the Force beyond that Spidey Sense shit, but this was just so dumb.
- All the ‘humor.’ My god, just... no.  Not every scene needs to be steeped in Whedon-speak, please stahp.  I will admit the first scene got a chuckle out of me, but the rest...
- The ‘plot.’  This was literally an extended car chase scene in space with some Sense8 type shit thrown in. Rey hardly even did any training, ffs.
- so the force-sensitive member of the trio goes on to be trained by a wise, isolated mentor and finds herself drawn to a place steeped in the dark side and ends up seeing only herself reflected in there, meanwhile the rest of the characters are involved in a chase across the galaxy, running away from the evil empire, and at some point decide to ask for help form a well-known swindler who betrays them and in the end everything seems bleak with just a tiny glimmer of hope. HMMMMMM. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
- quite frankly, I’m still in shock Rey finished the film with two fully biological arms
- O hei, look, it’s The Salty planet Hoth.  With pod-racing.
- Really? Rey blushing at shirtless Kylo? Really
- WHERE IS FORCE GHOST ANAKIN TO GO “BINCH I REDEEMED MYSELF IN THE END STOP THIS SHIT, ALSO I DID THIS FIRST AND I DID IT BETTER” TO HIS WANNABE GRANDSON
- The whole damn Casino storyline.  I don’t care if it’s meant to set up something for the last movie (probably not) but it was long, boring, and a clumsily written attempt at a storyline that could’ve been more nuanced and a good addition.
- why did we have to see Luke milk that alien Y
- NOT ONE DECENT LIGHTSABER FIGHT THE FUQ.
- Leia (and Han in TFA) giving up on her son instead of beating some sense into his ass with a space slipper. Y’ALL KNOW SHE WOULD.  Baaaaad characterization. Space Mom would never.
- Also, fuck whoever decided that Leia, who canonically has the exact same force potential as Luke because they’re twins, never developed her powers beyond Force Sense or whatever.  If you’re not gonna give the woman a lightsaber, at least have her Force Push fools out of her way.
- Wtf Rey you obliterated that nice alien’s cart and didn’t even apologize they work hard every day you should be ashamed
- why was it meant to be funny when porgs were slapped around wtf
- “what’s that canon?”  “Basically a small death star” kjashKLAFJSHSAJKDFSADFHSAK
- Kylo. Can he just die, plz, the expanded universe did the Evil Solo son storyline so much better.  Yet another way in which this trilogy is totes an ~*homage*~  No shade on the actor though, he did a great job.  It’s just the violent manchild character I cannot stand.
- So like... we’re never gonna learn what Snoke’s deal was...? Or how he got to Kylo...? ....Okay then.
- This movie was 2 and a half hours long.

tlj review no one asked for lol
tumblr is a hellsite so I had to rewrite a good chink of this yikes not spoiler-free so here’s a cut
So overall I liked the film? I found the Kylo/Rey shit a bit weird, not because I’m that petty (I can actually swallow my pride on occasion, contrary to popular belief), but because it was too sudden, rushed, and a tad OOC, for Rey at least. I also felt like there was this “there’s no good or bad, it’s all war” agenda they were pushing, which I would agree with in certain cases, such as a fight for land or power, but in my mostly humble opinion, any fighting that rises in retaliation to oppression is justified. I also hated how they cashed in on the Rey parentage theory, and then they were like “lol they were just drunkards”, which honestly sucks to me because they exaggerated it so much and it was so anti-climactic, and it also made no sense, it’s?? the Skywalker saga?? There were so many parallel’s between Rey and Luke?? Rey and Han connected pretty much instantly?? and seeing as how Rey is really really strong with the force, it just doesn’t make much sense to me that she’s not related to any prominent force-sensitive character that we already know. Overall I’d give it 4/5 out of ten because though I have issues with it, it was still a very enjoyable experience, especially towards the end.
So anyway now here’s me talking about individual things and also screaming (and a lot less formal that paragraph over there)
The movie opens with Poe making a fool out of Hux I’m knjhbvgcfc
“Finn naked leaking running” ghjngffffffh
I remember ages ago seeing a post around the lines of “Imagine if Rey gives Luke the lightsaber and he just tosses it off the cliff like ‘It’s time for the Jedi to end YEET’ and I can’t find it (if you can please send me a link) and that’s EXACTLY what went down I’d think that person leaked something if it wasn’t quite frankly a bit predictable, still funny tho
When Luke says “Reach out” and Rey sticks out her hand shjgfgg she’s so cute
YES so getting to the Rey/Kylo shit, the transition from hating him to sympathy and whatever else came into play just...wasn’t smooth. It was faarrr too sudden, and while Rey is a good person, she’s not Luke. In TFA she had a lot of anger underneath and for her to just be so *shruggie* with Kyle just did not make any sense to me.
Also what the fuck was the shirtless Kyle scene
Why were his pants so high jhgfcdgh
It gets infinitely weirder when you think about how Snoke apparently was controlling this? Yikes we gotta kinkshame Snoke now
Rose is so cute I hate how she was sidelined in the promotional material but she did play an important role and if they kill her I’m suing Lucasfilm
Rey really did That
The cinammon topography....I love all the red
The Luke wanting to kill Kyle thing was very OOC to me but also not? Like it wasn’t at all Luke as we know him but I guess no one is perfect damn (it’s still OOC)
That whole scene through the casino, the Fathiers (or whatever) and escaping was so beautiful
Y’all could bring back Yoda bu not Hayden Anakin...
That whole thing IMO would just be better with Anakin? Like first of all you expect me to believe old, traditional, head-up-his-ass Yoda supported burning down the books
Anakin talking to Luke about how the Jedi order was indeed fucked up and maybe seeing how he feels about Kylo...that would be the Good Shit
The big ass cruiser ship cutting through the First Order ship....amazing
Ok I’ll admit before the film I could Not stand Kyle at all but during it I was like “Ok maybe I can warm up to him” and then he’s like “Let go, we can rule the galaxy together” YEET never mind he’s still a liar and a bitch
I will admit however I liked Kylo killing Snoke
jhgfdg so Rey and Kylo against the the guards together thingy objectively looks good but also off because as a wise woman (Daisy Ridley) once said “She [Rey] is so strong and he [Kylo] is so weak”
huhhooolllyy shit that bit where Rey drops the lightsaber then catches it with her other hand...I lost my shit right there and then
Lowkey upset because I wanted a sick ass duel between Rey and Kylo (In which Rey, predictably, kicks his ass) that I could bust a nut to like I did in TFA but ahh well maybe ep IX, for now I have Finn/Phasma
HE BROKE HER HELMET!! I’M JHGFGH
((give Finn a lightsaber again you cowards))
SO back to the Rey/Kylo shit
KYLE: Let go, join me, and we can rule the galaxy together
ME: I’m so sorry Rey sweetie...someone should’ve told you...all men do is lie
Yikes only looking back do I realize how fucked up that was “You come from nothing and no one cares about except me so this is why you should rule with me” ugly
“The girl killed Snoke” You’re a bitch Kyle!! A bitch and a coward!!
Darth Vader I am so sorry;
Did I mention how amazing Finn kicking Phasma’s ass was
Poe is learning...he gon’ be a leader one day..Leia’s rightful Heir
I can’t believe I had to watch Luke die...at least he’s at peace..
THE HUG!!! THE FINNREY HUG!!
the kiss between Finnrose was super cute too!!! ((me personally I found it lowkey one-sided, like Rose was into him, he wasn’t into her, which is maybe how it was written?))
I really loved that Poe and Rey have officially met now jhgfdhfggh I’m so unbelievably happy about that
I don’t want a Poe/Rey romantic thing tho but I’ve always felt like they’ll get along great....the dream team...sister from another mister/brother from another mother IDK I always thought they could have a really great friendship
“I’m Rey” “I know” is it because Finn gushes about her
starving us on stormpilot isn’t gonna solve shit m’dudes, the public has it’s mind made up!!
That kid with the resistance symbol thing better be in IX otherwise it’s bad writing!!
((this uuuhhh whole film was bad writing but shshhhhh i enjoyed it ok it’s the r*verdale of star wars I guess if r*verdale was redeemable in any timeline jhjgfsd))
And some short end notes:
I don’t think I heard the Imperial March even once???? I could be wrong but ohh my god I’ll be so mad if it isn’t in there what do you think that you’re too good for the imperial march? that it’s not iconic or something?? That shit goes so hard “da da da dadada da da da dadada DA DA DA DA DADAAA DA DADAAA
hmmm does kyle deserve that tho lol
Not making Rey related by blood to Anakin was a huge mistake ((predictable but!! sometimes shit just has to go like that??))
I read somewhere that rian johnson didn’t want this film to follow the ‘star wars pattern’ whatever the fuck that is but...this was so damn similar to ESB kjnhbgfcg
And I think that’s it?
If you read this whole thing thank you
UPDATE: I THOUGHT OF MORE SHIT
being like “oh Rey’s parents were drunks” is such a lazy move....this is not get out of jail free card I don’t know who told you this
let luke and leia grieve for han you assholes
can IX redeem this shitshow stay tuned
