Save room for us | Sanji x GN! Reader
The Sanji brain rot has been so intense lately, I had to do something about it! The fic is named after a song from one of my favorite albums ever by Tinashe, btw (you should listen to it).
CONTENT WARNINGS: kinda angsty but with a whole lot of comfort, takes place right after the events of whole cake
Tumblr media
Heart goes numb
Perched at the edge of your seat in the aquarium, you awaited Sanji, five minutes before the agreed upon time. When the crew finally set sail from Whole Cake with the beloved cook and the crew got a chance to catch sleep, you caught Sanji after breakfast, stating bluntly that “we need to talk after dinner tonight.” You felt bad for stating the invitation in such a sinister tone, especially after the nightmare Sanji just emerged from, but your emotions got the best of you. The numbness shielding your heart was thawing away, and you couldn’t stand the pain of hiding your feelings for Sanji any longer.
These nights don’t get easier when I see you with her
A light knock on the door pulled you out of your running thoughts, and the man of the hour stepped in, holding a plate of your favorite snack and a cup of tea.
“I noticed you gave most of your food to Luffy at dinner, so I made you something.” You can hear the apprehension dripping from his words, and your heart aches knowing you worried the poor man.
“Thank you, Sanji,” you reply weakly, avoiding eye contact with him out of guilt as you speak. “I’m sorry I didn’t eat that much, the food tasted great. I just… didn’t have an appetite.”
“That’s okay, don’t worry!” Sanji assures you as he places the food and tea down gently next to you. “Tell me, what are you worried about? Is there something you need to tell me?” He takes a seat next to you, giving you more personal space than usual, and you finally look up at him, your eyes threatening to well up with tears as you see his beautiful blue eyes full of concern for you.
“Sanji I-“ you start, then take a shaky, deep breath. “I didn’t mean to worry you so much when I said we need to talk. I’m not mad at you, I promise. You’ve been through a lot these past few days, and I’m really happy to have you back. I missed you.” Your words are fragile and wavering as you try to avoid telling him your true feelings.
“There’s no need to apologize, y/n, I know you didn’t mean to worry me. I missed you too, and I’m really happy to be back-“
“No, Sanji,” you interrupt him, feeling the dam of emotion slowly break free with every word shared between you too. “I really missed you, it was painful without you around.” Your voice picks up a little bit, and you look him square in the eyes, finally gathering up the courage to spill your every thought. “I was so worried about you, getting married to some girl you don’t even know and seeing your awful family hurt me too. But, the more I spent time away from you, the more I realized it was more than just friendly concern.”
Sanji’s eyebrows furrowed in concern. “What do you mean?”
“I mean…” you sigh, and turn your body to completely face Sanji. “God dammit, Sanji, I like you. I mean I have feelings for you, and it hurt being away from you, and I know it sounds so fucking selfish but it hurt when I saw you with Pudding. Seeing her fawn over you was agonizing. I know you drool over every girl, I don’t care about that, but I was afraid the two of you actually had something special. It made me realize that I want something special with you, Sanji.” You sharply inhale at the end of your confession, not realizing you forgot to breathe between your words.
She will never love you, oh, the way that I do
Sanji’s eyes widen, and the two of you stare at each other in shock of your words as he begins to process. After a solid 30 seconds, he exhales, then gently pulls you into his chest for a hug, his long arms holding you as if you were made of porcelain.
“Honey, you should have said something before,” Sanji whispers, his chin resting on the top of your head. “I’m so, so sorry I was hurting you this whole time.” You can hear him begin to choke up. “If-if I had known-“
“It’s okay, Sanji, I’m not upset with you, I didn’t intend on coming across that way.” You look up from his chest, and your heart stings at the sight of tears welling up in his eyes. “You didn’t have a choice, I knew that. I’m so happy you’re here with us. I’d go through all of that again if it means I get to be here with you every time.”
You’ll come back for us, someday
Sanji brings his hand to your cheek, delicately wiping away a tear you didn’t even notice came out with his thumb. He’s disregarding his own tears, smiling down at you with true warmth and contentment.
“Is it too early to say I love you? Because I really, really do. I’ve wanted to be with you ever since you joined us. I know it’s difficult for me to show that to you right now, so will you be mine? So I can continue to show you how much I love you?”
“I’d want nothing more.”
The last thing you see is your new boyfriend grinning ear to ear before he squeezes you into his chest, breaking any sort of tension that was previously between you two. The happiness is radiating from him like morning sunlight, grazing your skin and making you feel warmth for the first time in days. Tears of happiness and relief flood out of you, and mumble out an apology into his chest for dampening his shirt. He doesn’t have a care in the world. Once you break free of him to catch your breath, you gasp slightly, noticing how close your face is to his. He’s still holding you by the waist, and you can feel his shallow breaths against your face as he keeps you close. You then notice he’s staring at your lips, and in an act of newfound bravery, you place your hands around his neck and close the distance. His lips meet yours with the same gentle care that he holds you, and you both linger for a moment, basking in the sensation and bliss of contact you both craved for so long. He pulls away, only to give you a forehead kiss, lingering a bit longer into the warmth of your skin. When you get a chance to look back up at him, you swear you can see hearts in his eyes.
“Sorry, I couldn’t wait any longer,” you whisper, feeling your cheeks and ears paint themselves red with bashfulness.
“Never apologize for that. Please do that more often, actually.” You swear you can see blood begin to trickle out of his nose, and you giggle. You can absolutely tell that Sanji is truly in love with you.
“Oh! The food! I can’t waste this, would you stay here with me while I eat?” You ask Sanji, much more lighthearted than before.
“My love, could I stay with you for the whole night?”
“Please do.”
The two of you talk about everything and nothing as you eat your late night snack made by him, all the while basking in the relief of finally being with one another. Truly, you’d go through every fight on that god forsaken island again if it meant you’d be in Sanji’s arms.
‘Cause we were built in dreams of gold

Using @iwtvfanevents's a meal to remember event as an opportunity to celebrate some of the sickos beautiful authors in this fandom 🧡 here's a list of some of my favourite recommendations, all of them Louis-centric and/or involving louis in a major fashion.
I will also be adding a song that I associate to each of them!!
🐺Leslou🐑
canon/semi-canon compliant
Pour (E) by baberainbow / @baberainbowao3: Kicking this list off with one of my all times favorite, manages to capture their voices perfectly. You'll never go wrong with one of babe's fics, they're all canon in my head 🧡
song: holy terrain - fka twigs
Glass (E) by baberainbow / @baberainbowao3: Melting just thinking about this one. I can never be free of them.
Pieta (E) by baberainbow / @baberainbowao3: Gabrielle gives lestat something he needs and gives louis something he didnt know he needed 🧡 Gabrielle is so kind 🧡
song: let go - tinashe
song: mary magdalene - fka twigs
Tides (E) by @nlbv: Tides my best friend. had to stare at my ceiling for at least 10 minutes after that one and it doesn't lose its impact no matter how much I come back to it. Masterful grasp on both louis and lestat's characterization and the toxicity that permeates their relationship.
song: tear you apart - she wants revenge
Roadkill (E) by @baberainbowao3 and @nlbv: TELL THE AVENGERS TO PACK IT THE FUCK UP. This is the most ambitious crossover of our generation. Roadkill my wife my beloved my soulmate. Read it so many times i've managed to convince myself it was canon. and it is. What is a family meant for if not for going to the circus, commiting horrifying acts of violence and making plans for the future 🧡
song: savage good boy - japanese breakfast
someone buy me roses (E) by indigostohelit: Perfect dialogue, impeccably true to their characters, illustrates louis' religious hangups and repression in a subtle funny and intimate way.
song: save a prayer - duran duran
Amour Rouge (E) by revengefrnnk: Louis exploring femininity. Big big fan of putting that man in lingerie personally. 10/10 certified s1 deleted scene to me.
song: blood and butter - caroline polachek
AUs
Reformation (E) by verseau / @greedydemands (MODERN AU): The sacred texts. We all remember where we were. 10/10 will make you go through the full range of existing human emotions. I laughed. I cried, a number of times. I sweat, I danced. I got... a shot, I ate and... I had many epiphanies.
song: heaven - shygirl / be sweet - japanese breakfast
hold me tight, & fear me not (E) by boltcutters / @wordforworldisforest (TAM LIN AU): Me when I find a beautiful fairytale book in the evil yaoi section. Read if you love beautiful writing and if you want to find out what happens to lost little lambs that stray from the path.
song: i cant breathe - gwsn
Part of Your World (E) by weathermood / @weather-mood (LITTLE MERMAID AU): I never know where to start when praising POYW, from how real and alive the world feels to the sense of tragedy permeating Louis and Lestat's entire relationship, to how much it's made me miss the sea. Oh and also the monsterfucking ❤️
song: like real people do - hozier / sea, swallow me - cocteau twins
House of Gold (E) by dirtygoldensoul / @revolution-starter : I don't usually read A/B/O fics but I love this one so much, for many reasons, the main one being how bad the family dynamics get me... Can't recommend it enough 🧡
song: work song - hozier
Like a Heathen clung to the Homily (E) by @thelioncourts (SEX CLUB AU): One of my favorite insights into Louis' internality and his lingering religious trauma, and how it still affects him, chapter 4 almost made me cry... Can't wait to see where it goes next.
song: after dark - mister kitty
🥀Loumand🎭
canon/semi-canon compliant
dirges (E) by boltcutters / @wordforworldisforest: Can't make my way into loumand territory without mentioning my beautiful wife dirges. Ziska if you read this know that you will be dealt with shortly. Loumand bed death allegation hours: CLOSED FOREVER.
song: posing in bondage - japanese breakfast
Alluvium (E) by serpenstkirts / @knifeeater: The best way I can describe Laïs' fics and how they make me feel would be to liken the experience to drowning into a lake and being grateful for the dark water filling your lungs. This fic is about eroticized latex gloves and finger sucking btw.
song: only seeing god when i come - sega bodega
vanishing point (E) by serpentskirts / @knifeeater: Motorcycle sex as religious experience. Day 67 of my campaign to get Laïs in that writing room.
song: sunset - caroline polachek / nascar - stella smyth
Selfsame (E) by @vampdf: 70s LOUMAND CRUISING ERA MY BELOVED. Number 1 on the list of the crimes Eli has to answer for. 1000/10. Died five separate times reading this. Rolin look at me. Rolin dont listen to AMC. You need this in s2. It is crucial that we get this. Louis deserves it.
song: a pill to crush - evelyn / sulk - tr/st
Prey Drive (E) by The_Lame_Goat / @iwtvdramacd18: Speaking of loumand's 70s insane bdsm practices 💔💔💔 s2 script just leaked. Is your eternal vampire marriage hitting a rough spot? Try our newest predator/prey large-scale roleplay!
song: lullaby - the cure / on the run - kelela
Mark Deep (E) by The_Lame_Goat / @iwtvdramacd18: Goat you have my blood on your hands. No added commentary needed actually. The damage this fic has done to me is irreversible. Read if you want some more quality t4t loumand insanity.
song: pang - caroline polachek
Rumpelstiltskin (E) by weathermood / @weather-mood: Most normal loumand roleplay night. Louis wakes up in a tower. I literally refuse to say anything else until you all read it for yourself and go through the sheer range of emotions I've went through when first reading it. #Their princess/captor slay is real and alive and thriving. This fic is also part of the NMHMRGPINE (No Matter How Much Rashid Gets Paid It's Not Enough) verse btw.
who is she ? - i monster / big bad wolf - shakey graves
AUs
the night island (E) by @vampdf (MAFIA AU): I don't know much but I know Armand was made to be a mob boss and Louis was made to be a mob wife. One of the most insanity-inducing byproducts of the career dom s2 teaser Armand scene(tm).
song: bitch bites dog - cecile believe
🚬Armand/Louis/Daniel📚
thy fearful symmetry (E) by mothmaiden: 70s era. One of the flrst iwtv fics I ever read. Never left my mind since. Delicious dynamics between the three of them, got me gasping and covering my mouth many times. Can't recommend enough.
song: soul control - jessie ware
Little Kidnaps in the Dark (E) by @gayvampiredivorce : The damage little kidnaps has wrought on my crops, my mental health, my friends and family can NOT be overstated. Masterful interpretation of the evolution of their relationship and dynamics through the haze of vampiric existence. Anne could never have done this.
song: when the sun hits - slowdive
Lethe series (T/E) by serpentskirts / @knifeeater: Quite simply one of my favorite series not only in that tag but in general. Every sentence Laïs writes pulls me into a dark void that I hope I'm never getting out of.
song: hopedrunk everasking - caroline polachek
🖤Lestat/Louis/Armand/Daniel💀
Good to Love / Ruthless in Love (M) by themasterletters / @brightfelon (MODERN AU): Reading Toni's fics makes me feel like im a teen again, waiting anxiously for updates and calling up all my friends to scream and , am in love with all of Toni's readings of the characters but his Louis truly gets me. That fic doesn't only live rent free in my head it's also led me places I wouldnt go to with a gun. I have seen the best minds of my generation led to madness by toni's loumand. btw.
song: career boy - dorian electra / genghis khan - miike snow
Lestat/Louis/Armand
A Potentiality for Corruption (E) by @vampdf: The thing is. I can't talk about Eli's fics without talking about Potentiality. However. Talking about Potentiality also happens to send me into a state of delirious hysterics. Daphne Du Maurier found dead in a ditch. Charlotte Brontë shaking and crying. Guillermo Del Toro found jobless. There's a new Gothic classic in town.
song: ptolemaea - ethel cain

TINASHE - "NEEDS"
youtube
I mean, have you seen the price of cold cuts lately?
[6.79]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: So catchy that it's become the background radiation of my mind. [9]
Crystal Leww: Earlier this year Tinashe was playing Knockdown Center in New York and a friend of mine tweeted that tickets were $5. I really did check because it did seem like a believable reality at the time which is really all you need to know about whatever is happening with Tinashe in the year of our lord 2023. [3]
Ian Mathers: I don't have, like, a list but I suspect/dimly remember that there's at least a microgenre of sex jams with videos set in innocuous backdrops like the grocery store found here. But I don't recall any of them seeming like they had quite as much fun there as Tinashe and her dancers do; fitting enough for a song that doesn't do anything particularly novel but does it all with such frank matter-of-factness and confidence that it feels fresh. [8]
Frank Falisi: How can you tell that a singer is a good dancer? I think maybe it's in the voice. I think maybe a voice is a thing that can be wielded and conceived of as entering a physical space like any other limb. I think maybe Tinashe proves that. "Needs" is a paean to get and give that puts the pleading back in pop music, an apparatus that approximates us by asking to take up our time and space for three minutes or less or so. Crucially, Tinashe's voice choreographs that approximation in terms of necessity instead of luxury: everything here is just plain simple needs, like breathing and being. The voice prepares a body for wanting. It clips and jabs, wups and garbles life. There's a pitch shift here in the first minute or so that feels like a somersaulting step, like the total inversion a beloved can inflict on a body. It makes me gasp, which makes me aware of my voice. It puts us head over heels, moved and moving. [8]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: Tinashe running around grocery store aisles with a turkey pan on her head, Tinashe wearing deli meat as an outfit, Tinashe twerking on top of containers of nuts, Tinashe riding in a grocery store cart. The "Needs" music video is an instant classic for the same reason the song slaps: it's effortless and clean and simple, but doesn't take itself too seriously. This is the type of cool that enjoys itself, the kind that's unconcerned with anything but having a good time. [8]
Leah Isobel: What does Tinashe have left to prove? Songs For You demonstrated that she can make creatively satisfying crossover pop without a major label; 333 was an ebullient victory lap that pushed her art outward in all directions, uniting her most experimental tendencies and her most down-the-middle melodies behind her star presence. She could fuck off for, like, five years and still have people (me) frothing at the mouth for her return. But of course, the industry doesn't work like that: if your job is to make music and perform, you have to keep clocking in. "Needs" finds a way to make those obligations both transparent and irrelevant; "They ain't never seen moves like these," she sings, as if she's still a new artist, as if there isn't ample evidence of her staggering physical skills. It's branding as much as it's boasting. But we -- I -- come to Tinashe for that outsized confidence, the easy bravado masking tremendous effort. And "Needs" still delivers where it counts, with a warm bath of a chorus that stretches on and on and on. Even when she's just punching the clock, she's generous. [7]
Daniel Montesinos-Donaghy: It's great when Tinashe gets silly, something that was in short supply during her embargo at RCA, where she square-peg-round-holed into trends or pushed onwards with her gothic mumblings. Her most recent album, BB/ANG3L, could do with a few more athletic sex-comedy routines like "Needs." Over queasy West Coast keys, Tinashe's filtrated voices bawdily narrates a hook-up, where there's teasing and power-play but no humiliation. It's all very silly and rather human: "I'm just human, we all got needs," she lilts in the warmest of shrugs, like it's really that easy. [9]
Alex Ostroff: A decade on from Tinashe's initial mixtapes -- which were heralded as the emergence of a talented new left-of-centre voice in R&B who was just a little too vibey and ethereal and uninterested in big shiny hooks to take over the mainstream -- Tinashe has returned to that position, following a brief detour into the world of major labels that tried to DJ Mustard her way into pop hits. She's made two compelling albums since going independent again that mostly exist in her midtempo R&B comfort zone. "Needs" exists in the same space, but feels slight and tossed off. It's catchy enough that it only took 2 or 3 listens before "peaches, banaaaaaanas" was permanently embedded in my brain, but by its nature its pleasant, wispy and low-stakes. [6]
Katherine St Asaph: I've always heard an empty sadness beneath Tinashe's singles, even the ones (which is most of the big ones) that aren't meant to be. "Needs" is supposedly gleeful -- watch Tinashe grin all throughout the strip-club Supermarket Sweep video. But its musical palette is all resignation: vacant handclaps, synths flickering in and out like the lighting of an abandoned floor, minor-key melody delivered with almost no flirtation or embellishment, like the checked-out cadence of "Big Spender"; the fact that the phrase "we've all got needs" usually comes with the implication that they aren't currently being met. The fact that no one else ever seems to hear this makes me worry that maybe this is some kind of projection on my part; but I can't hear anything else, and the resulting tension between sound and intent makes "Needs" more compelling than it should be. For instance: That buffet line because wasn't sexy on Katy Perry's "Bon Appetit" either. [7]
Alfred Soto: She mastered this midtempo sex jam years ago; 333, the best album of 2021, was a middle finger to challengers. She can record these melodies over click tracks forever. In the best of Tinashe's midtempo sex jams I hear more at stake. [6]
Will Adams: As a single, it's serviceable, with Tinashe going cruise control on a cutesy sex jam. But it's a disservice to the otherwise excellent BB/Angel, where tension was the mode and, as a result, far more interesting. Docked an extra point for that weird vocal processing midway through that makes it sound like she's suspended in Jell-O. [5]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: BB/ANG3L is one of Tinashe's best albums if only because it's 20 minutes long -- the maximum amount of R&B she can deliver before everything turns to mush. And "Needs" is indeed more of that nondescript, nocturnal mood music: gauzy synth pads, a minimal beat, her voice flitting in the ether. That lone verse is the best part, her vocals slurred as she sings about getting eaten out -- the brashness matches the dingy, dimly lit atmosphere. Artists with 10x her budget would make being horny a glamorous, extravagant, all-consuming affair. As an unimaginative songwriter and perpetual C-lister, Tinashe can't quite do that, and so she sticks with meat-and-potatoes production and finds the lyrics to match. [6]
Michelle Myers: Nashe seems to be enjoying herself again. Perhaps my perception is colored by its twerking-in-the-grocery music video, but "Needs" feels more like a dirty joke among friends than a genuine attempt at seduction. [7]
David Moore: I enjoy the Ryan Leslie-esque synth clouds, but the song goes beyond circular to samey -- a mass of wispy gray stratus clouds when they needed to be little fluffy cumuli. [6]
Brad Shoup: Not entirely certain why she bothered with a verse. Maybe she had nowhere else to place the peaches, bananas. A short, spare song but there's still room to ponder whether the simp sucks or not. (The verbal abuse feels central to the action.) Great singsong chorus, even if I keep hearing "talk real mean" as "taco meat". [6]
Taylor Alatorre: An impressionistic portrait of desire intermingling with control that sets a rather low bar for itself, and then proceeds to leap over that bar with an abundance of style. And by "style," I mean Tinashe doing violence to her voice in a way that's meant to embody twin ideals of cuteness and menace, which has the knock-on effect of making her say "peaches, bananas" in a voice that sounds like it's been taken over by the Shimmer from Annihilation. Now that's just good clean fun, in my opinion. [7]
Edward Okulicz: Nice song. Not sure why they shot the amusing video with Tinashe and her dancers having fun in a supermarket before they finalised the vocal though because there's a fine line between sexy and bored in a jam and this is on the wrong side of it. Wait, what? This is the final version of the song and it's not waiting on a re-recording to make her sound as fun as she is having in the video? You're shitting me. [5]
Jackie Powell: It is impressive that Tinashe was able to freestyle the final line in the chorus "we all got needs" which launched the entire concept for "Needs." She told Dazed that she "just pressed record and played a beat" and a chorus was born. This track seems more like an extended hook or an interlude rather than a full song. The chorus and post chorus make up over 75 percent of the entire song. It's fine this song was made for TikTok, but the only verse this song has contains a vocal distortion that ruins what came before it. Tinashe's voice is smooth and sensual enough, it doesn't need to sound like it's underwater. I say Na-na-na, na-na-na to whoever decided that Tinashe's diction had to suffer in the track's only verse. She sounded like she was holding her nose. [6]
Nortey Dowuona: Tinashe was always meant to be a mid tier artiste. She had both too many outre tastes to stay comfortable in conventional pop structures, but was too nostalgia heavy and cynical to drift into a more esoteric mysticism. She could dance, she could sing, she could dance and sing, in a world where neither of those things was novel to the marketplace or stunningly amazing, she could have comfortably avoided irrelevance and been scooped into the orbit of an actual star. But Tinashe has always charted her own path and set her own course, so instead she's doing this slower than 120 bpm pop-R&B tune about satisfying the desires for pleasure and indulgence, the things music can easily achieve without breaking a sweat. Thank god for Tinashe. [10]

Hey guys, I am posting Tinashe today cause she posed for Narcisse Magazine (I think I spelled that right but who knows) and I think she looked fantastic. It's hard for me to post Tinashe and not think of @kat-eleven because she always goes a little nuts when I post Tinashe. I can't remember why, I assume because she doesn't think she's attractive given I just checked and she hasn't posted Tinashe in some time. She would hate this photoshoot as it is very boob centric in my opinion, which is why for her sake, to stem her no doubt rage at these pictures, I have chosen the one that is not boob heavy. She will be relieved and go, "Thank god she's covered up, I hope that big zipper is secure". Kat of course famously hates boobs, she thinks women should be ashamed of having them. She calls them sin lumps and it's why she goes camping so often because, and this is a direct quote, "Trees don't have boobs". Enough of that though, I happen to like the entire shoot but it's not hard to see why cause Tinashe is absolutely beautiful. She is also talented and seems deeply decent. She had already been on my mind because I was thinking about the X-Men's Dazzler and listening to a discussion on it and whose career she would have and it was settled on sort of Kylie Minogue's US career. She's too big every where else but the US matches, beloved by the gays, known by a small subsection of people, never really took off for some reason. It was also decided Dazzler would be that beloved cult pop star who now collabs with younger stars and Tinashe was brought up as an example of someone she would collab with because Dazzler no doubt has excellent taste and would want to join up with some people pushing things forward musically. Anyway, that's a whole lot of words that have nothing to do with a nice photoshoot but sometimes the world needs to know about my X-Men obsession and my friend's dislike of attractive women. Today I want to fuck Tinashe.

A song that makes you happy okay soooo the first one i thought of was candy by baekhyun oh that song literally will make me smile in 0.05 seconds it's CRAZY bbh i love you!!!!!! but i will give you a few more because i like this question. oh well i would be just wrong if i didn't mention right here by the boyz because i often play it in the morning to get my day off to a good start. b-list by chanmina!!!!!!!! my fun girl <3333 lady by exid that's pure ass serotonin. and i'm a power by exo stan to the death i don't care that people think she's cringe she makes me so happy. white t-shirt by jonghyun... this is turning into a very kpop heavy answer well i do tend to go to kpop for mood boosting songs so it makes sense. to give you one more non-kpop song aside b-list let's shout out everybody wants to rule the world by tears for fears.
A song by an artist with a voice that you love gonna start with my no1 song of 2023 cough by onew a voice like that comes along so so so so sooooooooooooooo rarely. also i don't listen to tanérelle super super much just because her songs are mostly very slow and that can stress me out very easily but i love her voice so fucking much it's ridiculous so i need to mention love from ngc 7318 which is the song of hers i listen to the most. 甘いワナ ~ paint it, black by utada hikaru oh i love you...... none of my business my favourite tinashe song. i don't wanna endorse her because well, many reasons but yeah i said it by rihanna MUST be on here. come in by kai must also be here my favourite voice in exo along with junmyeon so let's also include hurdle by suho. and 6 inch by beyoncé. run for your life by tiffany young. try again by aaliyah. loved by b.i. fever by han seungwoo perioddddddddd okay i'll stop listing songs now. even though i definitely could go on.

DANCE: Tiesto & Tears For Fears - “Rule The World”
Tumblr media
Tiësto teams up with Tears for Fears, NIIKO X SWAE and GUDFELLA to release new blistering single “Rule the World (Everybody)” out today via Thrive Music/Capitol Records. Listen HERE. As the title and famed collaborators suggest, the track is a reimagining of Tears For Fears' 1985 classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” that first exploded when an unofficial dance version was uploaded to SoundCloud. Tiësto then came on board, turning the seminal synth-pop anthem into a break-neck banger. The unofficial version of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is already a viral sensation, sound tracking more than 100K TikTok creates and Instagram reels including ones by ESPN, FC Barcelona, Disney, Aston Martin, Dairy Queen, Beyond Meat, and more. “Welcome to your life, there's no turning back,” Tears for Fears frontman Curt Smith sings in his signature tone over propulsive percussion and familiar chords. Adding at the slow-building chorus, “Acting on your best behavior, turn your back on Mother Nature — everybody wants to rule the world.”What follows is a sonic eruption of dizzying synths that is sure to pack dancefloors for months and be a highlight of the collaborating artists upcoming live dates. “The original track is one of my favorites,” says Tiësto, “so when I heard the new dance take on the song, I knew I wanted to collaborate on it with the other artists for a version that was special for my own live performances. The track goes crazy, live... I’m so happy it’s officially out for fans!” “Rule the World (Everybody)” follows the release of Tiësto’s album Drive in the spring. The Grammy® Award-winning, platinum-certified, global hitmaker has made a name for himself bringing infectious underground energy to electronic music masses. Tiësto has played the mainstage of every major international dance music festival and created the template for Las Vegas DJ residencies. Meanwhile, he’s sold more than 36 million albums, clocked six Billboard Hot 100 hits, and aggregated an incredible 11+ billion worldwide streams. Now, with “Rule the World (Everybody),” Tiësto elevates a beloved — and currently viral — track, lending it a club sound, and a new appeal for a whole new generation of fans. While Tiësto's achievements are legendary, his collaborators are already making waves in the dance music world. LA-based duo NIIKO X SWAE landed a streaming hit in 2022 when they teamed up with Nicky Romerofor "Easy," which found its way onto 14 New Music Friday playlists as well as the influential Happy Beats, Dance Party, and DanceXL playlists. The followed that up with Deorro linkup "Help Me" featuring Kiiara and a string of recent singles including "Fast Forward" and "Go Back." GUDFELLA — aka Philippines-born, San Diego-raised Kyle Domingo — has been churning out bangers since unleashing "What Kinda Love" in 2019. Since then, the rising producer has released a series of solo records ("Told You," "She Knows," and "Language") as well as hit collaborations ("Yours" featuring Tsu Nami and the Lexi Shanley-voiced "Highroller") and remixes (Angrybaby's"HOLD YOU" and Thulani & Tinashe's "Delilah"). hi so i'm looking for some new music to listen to and i thought you could help because you have great taste!
if this helps, i'll tell you what i normally listen to, which is very basic & basically the same few artists over and over lol
- mostly just taylor swift, she makes up 70+% of my listening probably haha and if i had to pick a favorite genre of hers it would be the folkmore style
- some other pop, like olivia rodrigo and conan gray and lorde & some doja cat but i'm not a huge fan of doja's lyrics
- lyrics are really big for me, so is having a pretty voice and nice melodies
- i love your playlists but the old songs are usually not my style (there's been some though that i really like, ty for that !! <3)
- ceremonials is my favorite florence album
- liability is my favorite lorde song
no problem if u don't want to!
OH i basically recommend things for a living so why not music, eh?
so. what i'm getting from this is that you have three big listening buckets: soft acoustic and indie pop and just plain old pop. so i will divide my recs by those broad genres! i too prefer singable music so i will try to lay off on especially dissonant artists, or mark them as such so you can be prepared (LOL)
acoustic/folksy (i'll admit i am a big indie pop girl so this stuff will be a bit sparser)
phoebe bridgers — admittedly she is more alt-rocky, but see garden song, savior complex, moon song, graceland too, prayer in open D
waxahatchee — can't do much (GOD THIS SONG), lilacs, st. cloud
lucy dacus — also more alt-rocky, but here r some softer jams: hot & heavy, christine, green eyes, red face (a jily song)
anything by first aid kit! start with stay gold and the lion's roar
hozier — i feel like most people on the internet have listened to SOME hozier but check out wasteland, baby! (i tried to pick individual songs and ended up listing most of the album LOL)
kacey musgraves — another artist you've probably listened to already, but try golden hour
brittany howard — stay high must be the sweetest song in existence, and basically all of her album jaime
arlo parks — the whole album but especially caroline, hurt, and black dog
lake street dive — i can change, good kisser (a mary song if i've ever heard one), and i adore their hall & oates cover!
anya marina — this whole album has had me by the throat since like 2013
lucius — just the whole album wildewoman, h/t @figg-anon for putting me onto this!
idk what tf genre fiona apple is but try her out as well!
artists i listen to less of but are in this vein: the lumineers, bon iver, vance joy
u know i had to rec some old people shit (LOLLLL), so in this vein, joni mitchell, heart, judee sills, emmylou harris, joan baez, vashti bunyan
one-off songs you might like: hold you now by vampire weekend, big wheel by samia, i eat boys by chloe moriondo, strawberry blond by mitski (i worship at the altar of mitski but she might not be your speed haha), like i used to (acoustic) by sharon van etten & angel olsen, body by julia jacklin, jackie onassis by sammy rae and the friends, cowgirl bebop by HANA
indie pop BELOVED
maggie rogers — ok i cannot recommend this higher like if u like lorde and conan gray drop everything now and mainline maggie's brilliant debut album
HAIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! — they've got poppier songs like want you back and more mellow songs like summer girl, but honestly i would just recommend a deep dive because they have a pretty surprising breadth within their own alt-rock/pop niche
caroline polachek — can sometimes get way out n weird in the pop sense but so hot you're hurting my feelings is a very listenable pop standard (also it's so funny she's such a clever lyricist also this is irrelevant here but she sounds amazing live), also love look at me now and her cover of breathless
charli xcx is more experimental pop but would rec trying out warm (FT HAIM!!!), blame it on your love (FT LIZZO!!), and official
rina sawayama — technically her album is all sorts of genres but especially XS, comme des garcons, paradisin', bad friend, and tokyo love hotel
orla gartland is a lil softer and i love more like you, oh GOD, and did it to myself
king princess — especially cheap queen, 1950, holy, but basically all of cheap queen
more one-offs: kansas by ashe, comeback by CRJ (full paean in her honour to come in the pop section), i am a big fan of other people covering the bleachers (LOL) especially rollercoaster by charli xcx and i wanna get better by tinashe (full tinashe praise to come too), saturdays by twin shadow (FT HAIM!!!), the kiss of venus and 3 nights by dominic fike (also his interlude on halsey's album), aute cuture and milionària by rosalía, young lover by st. vincent (i love her but again might not be for u haha), good days by sza, backyard boy by claire rosinkranz, slow dancing by aly & aj, hot sugar by glass animals
if ur down to try out something weird witchy and cool, kate bush is like the originator of 9 billion pop and rock genres and hounds of love is a masterpiece
pure pop (we can split hairs on what makes pure pop LOL but basically everything here is based on ur enjoyment of doja)
carly rae jepsen — ok if u haven't listened to her non-radio-hits u may be like "what?? call me maybe lady???" to which i say YES, especially window, stay away, no drug like me, and too much
victoria monet — this may or may not be a selling point to you, but victoria is a frequent ariana grande collaborator and you can absolutely hear it in her music (see also: the mattress spring background noises in dive JUST like they are in positions...), and i love experience, go there with you, and we might even be falling in love, and why not throw in her ariana grande collab monopoly
magdalena bay — how to get physical which i am destined, nay, contractually bound, to put in a jily modern AU someday, killshot, stop & go
tinashe — basically ALL of her new album!!! SO good. i also love rascal (superstar), esther, and old jams like company (and i JUST found out she has a chaka khan cover!)
chloe x halle have the most angelic vocals in the world
this might sound actually demented because WHO hasn't heard love on the brain but rly... go give ANTI a re-listen...
tove lo — especially are u gonna tell her, mateo, and jacques
WAIT I FORGOT TO SAY ROBYN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY ROBYN SONG!!!!!!!
for that throwback poppy sound u may as well go real throwback KJAHKJA and check out donna summer!
one-offs: right to it by louis the child n ashe, serial lover by kehlani (also more by her but im getting lazy now kdjfhgk), missed calls by max n hayley kiyoko, peppers and onions by tierra whack, idk who hasnt heard this song but circles by meg, todo de ti by rauw alejandro (the way i wanted this to be song of the summer so bad ;___;)
hope you enjoy and pls come back and tell me if you really liked any of these!!!! xoxo
