Rewind the tape —Episode 7 highlights

One of our favorite outfits is...

…the suit that Claudia wears to their meeting with Anderson. This is the first —and so far only— time we see Claudia wear a suit. Combined with her hair, which she started to wear pulled up in episode six, and her grown woman’s purse, this is the closest she gets to shedding the facade of youth while in public —but, of course, Tom’s “little girl” reminds us that she can never fully access womanhood.  But she’s trying, and the suit symbolizes her new position in the family structure, the attempt to make herself into an equal: at the start of episode five she was still the daughter left home while her parents went to meet Anderson, now she not only attends the negotiations, but is an active participant, handing Tom the list that ends up defining his decision. The palettes of their outfits seem heavily symbolic too: Claudia, in beige, brown and red, stands apart from Louis and Lestat’s blue suits, but Louis keeps “a little shelf” for her, a touch of red in his tie that matches her crimson shirt.

Rewind the Tape Ep 1: Fave Looks

As is the fave of many a folk who have good taste, I love the first suit above. The pearl pin.... 🤭 The warmth and how it perfectly fits those big brown doe eyes. -rip brown eyed Louis-. I'm so mesmerized by him.

But in general, aside from thee suit, I love all of the golden, brown, and amber tones Louis wears throughout this episode and what they were trying to convey with this color palette. As Carol said, the story revolves around Louis. He is our sun. ☀️ Our Golden Hour before the sun sets and night falls.

One of our favorite scenes is...

…the Armand reveal. The show has been guiding our attention towards Rashid since the beginning, but this long-foreshadowed twist doesn't lose its emotional payoff, managing to both confirm our suspicions and subvert our expectations —and add a hysterically funny note to an otherwise harrowing scene. Even for those who know nothing about Armand, learning the true identity of this ever-present figure completely reframes both the interview and Louis himself, who we now see is once again in a "small box" with a man who loves him.

The fact that Jacob gave us this stellar performance in EPISODE ONE is mind blowing to me. Fresh out the gate with greatness like this is insane to me. Every word uttered was like a knife through my chest. I did not cry, but this scene chilled me to the core. It's both beautiful and stressful, and Jacob Anderson, the man that you are, will always have a place in my heart for this scene alone. Everyone actor should watch this as a study guide for what acting is!

st. louis day 11 / literature part 1 - if i'm daniel's publishing house, these are some sample book covers i would use to promote the book to certain demographics. #1 is giving sexy airport thriller, your mom definitely picked this up from the hudson bookstore at terminal 3 and read the whole thing on her flight. #2 is appealing to teens and young adult in a v.e. schwab kinda way, you can gift this to your little sister for christmas and she'll write a book report about it for AP lit. #3 is aiming at the girly millennial literary fiction reader about a 20-something who gets fired from a temp job and has to join a thruple or she'll be homeless, think my year of rest and relaxation or elif bautman's the idiot. #4 is the celebrity memoir where we sell ldpdl as the star like he's meghan markle (and daniel is just the ghostwriter) and is for your one friend who only reads books by celebrities even it maintains plausible deniabilty by being a "fictional" memoir. #5 is historical ficiton written by a man, think a gentleman in moscow and all the light we cannot see, a little schmaltzy but historically accurate enough that you dad feels comfortable reading it, #6 is where we just pretend the book is an old classic so all the english majors can read it on the subway without shame. @iwtvfanevents
