Thrawn Fandom Event Interest Check: RarePairs Challenge
Last year, I participated in the 2023 SW RarePairs Challenge. It was a ton of fun! I was thinking we could have something like that on a smaller level for Thrawn fandom specifically.
Potential rules:
Can write/do art for any ship that has less than 100 works on Ao3.
Fic/Art is for a Thrawn fandom or adjoining fandoms (Rebels, Ahsoka). Includes both Legends and Canon. Thrawn himself does not have to be part of the ship.
Any word count is acceptable! Threesomes and friendships are allowed too.
If we want to make it an exchange, that can be done. Otherwise, I was gonna create a moderated collection on Ao3 that accepts works up to a certain date.

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: Prompt Bingo Board!
Shout-out to @hydr0phius for helping me come up with prompts and make this incredible bingo board. Because this is a collective bingo board (every participant's work gets added to the same bingo board), we decided to make it a bit bigger than the standard 5 by 5. Instead of calling BINGO, you call out THRAWN in this game XD!
Reminder that the rarepairs event begins April 2nd, 2024. We created the prompts in advance to give you all some time to get inspired.
Note: You can still use a prompt even if its spot on the bingo board is taken. Some spots take more than one work to cross off. Together, we are aiming for a collective blackout.
And of course, if you have an idea that doesn't fit a prompt, don't worry. We have a free space for a reason!

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: Complete List of Rules
It's official! The Ao3 collection for this challenge has been created. To submit works to it, simply enter "Thrawn RarePairs 2024" into the "Post to Collections/Challenge box on Ao3. Talk to me if you run into problems.
This collection is moderated, so your work will not appear right away. It will be reviewed for compliance with challenge rules first. Full list of rules is below the cut.
1. Participants can create fanworks for any Thrawn Fandom ship that has less than 100 works on Ao3 as of April 2, 2024.
2. Said fanwork must be for a Thrawn fandom or adjoining fandom (like Rebels or Ahsoka). Includes both Legends and Canon. Thrawn himself does not have to be part of the ship.
3. Any (fic) word count is acceptable! All mediums of art welcome! Threesomes and friendships are allowed too.
4. No plagiarism from another fanwork, no AI-generated work, and no remixing another person's work ("fanfic of a fanfic") WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR. If anyone has reason to believe an entry in this collection has violated this rule, they should reach out to PTV (the collection moderator) immediately so that appropriate action may be taken.
5. No work that was published (in part or whole) before April 2, 2024 will be accepted. Honored as PTV would be if this challenge inspired you to update a WIP, the purpose of the challenge is to generate new works.
5a. The first chapter of a work (if work is a multichap) must have been posted within the challenge's monthlong window. However, if someone decides to update their fic after the May 1, 2024 deadline has passed, they will NOT face a penalty of any kind.
6. Anonymous, orphan, and collaborative works are all allowed.
7. Appropriate rating, warning, character, etc. tags are REQUIRED for acceptance into the collection. Message PTV if you are unsure how to tag your work appropriately. The moderator respects people who choose not to rate or post warnings on their work, but for this challenge, it is necessary to use correct tagging.
7a. Reasonable people can disagree on the difference between one rating and the next (the line between M and E, for example). As long as you made a good faith effort to tag appropriately, your work will be accepted into the collection.
8. Works will not be denied solely based on poor grammar, but excessive lack of proofreading/poor formatting/inhibited readability may lead the moderator to believe your entry is a troll. Troll works/hate works are not allowed in the collection.
8a. While all languages are allowed, PTV is only fluent in English. This is relevant for rule #9's purposes.
9. All works will be personally reviewed by PTV before they are accepted into the collection. You will receive a kudos and a comment from PTV upon your work's acceptance into the collection. If your work does not meet challenge rules, you will receive a message explaining why.
9a. The review process may take a couple days. PTV DOES have a full time job and family obligations IRL. If you think your work has been skipped due to an oversight on PTV's part, you may POLITELY message her to inquire. Excessive harassment of the moderator is grounds for denial of entry into the collection.
9b. Non-English works will likely be fed through Google Translate. PTV will take translator flaws into account with regards to rule #8.
10. If you have any questions that were not answered on this page, you can send an ask on Tumblr. It will be answered as soon as possible.

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: Reminder and Update
Hello all! Don't forget that the Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024 will commence on April 2nd, 2024. That's just a few weeks away! I hope everyone who expressed interest last month still intends to participate! Per our poll, you will have until May 1st, 2024 to submit your work to my moderated collection on Ao3. If you do not have an Ao3 account, DM me and we will make appropriate arrangements.
While I would also encourage you to post about your work on Tumblr (using the tag #thrawnrarepairs2024 of course!), I will be using the Ao3 collection to keep up with participants. This is relevant because I will be personally reading/viewing/listening to every participating work to ensure it complies with event rules (a complete list of rules will be reposted closer to opening date so participants can view them all in one location). Because I will already be screening all works, every participating fanwork will receive kudos and a comment from yours truly. I know how much feedback can mean to us fan creators, so I want to offer that extra bit of encouragement. If, for whatever reason, your work does not comply with event rules, I will let you know why.
While this event is already a large undertaking, I hope we get enough participation to expand the scope next year. Thank you to everyone who has already expressed interest and in particular to @hydr0phius , who helped me create event-specific prompts (to be revealed on March 21st)!

It's Official!
By a bare plurality of votes, Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024 will be a month long event! It shall begin on April 2nd, 2024 and end on May 1st, 2024. As May 1st is the day that Heir to the Empire dropped in 1991, it works as Thrawn's birthday. What better day to end the challenge on than the 33rd birthday of our fandom's namesake!
More information will be forthcoming regarding official submission instructions and optional prompts. Thank you to everyone who voted and I hope to see all of you participating in April!

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: FAQ
While I'm online, I decided to post the answers to some questions I received in DM. I doubt the askers are the only ones wondering.
Who can participate in the challenge?
Anyone who wants to! Be they fanfic writers, fan artists, pod fic producers... Anyone who wants to increase the variety of ships in the Thrawn fandom or has a rarepair they want to shed light on is invited. I would have made a private event if the goal was to be selective about who can join.
With that in mind, anyone who wants to participate but has reservations CAN SUBMIT ANONYMOUSLY. They can post their work on Ao3 anonymously, request it be added to the collection, and I will upload it just the same (so long as it follows the rules of the challenge). If you don't have an Ao3 account, DM me. We will work out an appropriate arrangement.
How are OCs/Reader fics treated by this challenge?
They are allowed, with one caveat: all OCs count as a single character. Reader is a singular character of its own. OFC, OMC, and OGNC are all treated the same here. The point of the challenge is to increase the variety of ships in the Thrawn fandom. There are well over 100 Thrawn/OC fics. Thrawn/OC is not a rarepair. Similarly, there are already over 100 Thrawn/Reader fics. If you want to write, say Ar'alani/OC or Eli/Reader, however, that is allowed.
How will you treat incest/noncon/age gap/(insert other controversial ship type)?
Tag and rate your work appropriately. If you do that, you are allowed to join the challenge with any rarepair ship you want. My personal opinion about a ship does not determine whether it qualifies for rarepair status. I simply ask that all participants follow the "don't like, don't read/click" philosophy when it comes to perusing other people's entries.
That said, hate fics/troll fics/entries designed to bash a ship are not allowed. If someone wrote a (using this example for illustrative purposes only) Thranto fic about how toxic and awful they think the ship is and anyone who writes for it is stupid, one would be unlikely to consider that a true Thranto fic. Apply this logic to any ship you may be inclined to make works for. Don't create out of hate for this, please.
What if a ship gets over a 100 works over the course of the challenge? Can I still submit work for it?
Yes! The rarepair designation requires a ship have less than 100 fanworks on Ao3 as of the first day of the challenge. Some ships are very close, with over 90. If we are fortunate enough to have a lot of people participate and take some ships out of that category before the challenge is over, you can still submit works for that ship.
Are romantic ships and friendships treated differently for the purpose of this challenge?
Yes! Make sure to use the "&" instead of the "/" for platonic ships. So if a ship already has 100 romantic works and you want to write a friendship/family work (and the "&" pairing is under 100), go for it! This allows gen fics (my JAM) to be part of the challenge.
How will you treat threesomes/3+ character ships?
They are their own ship. For example: Thrawn/Eli/Faro is not the same ship as Thranto or Thraro. However, make sure you actually are writing/making a threesome and not a story about two people being together and hooking up with a third for a single paragraph. Honest tagging is important.

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: Week 1 Recap
Hello everyone! Week 1 of Thrawn RarePairs is drawing to a close, and we already have 3 works in the collection! See below for a breakdown of prompts/collection link:
As you can see, we have one ship of each type (F/F, M/M, and F/M), and each one is the first to tag such a ship! While the "Five of each" target has not been reached on the Bingo Board, we are 20% of the way there.

How long is the Thrawn rare pair challenge open? The event post says it starts on 2 April but I'm not sure when it closes.
Ends May 1st! That's the day Heir to the Empire came out in 1991, so May 1 is basically Thrawn's birthday.

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: It Begins Today
To get us started, I posted the first work in the collection. Per the recent Tumblr poll, the ship tag I have founded is Skerris/Xoxtin. I'm surprised they won out over the other option (which would have included Eli), but I may also write that fic yet.
