After the release of the second part of the comic book about the continuation of the Grand Admiral's story, the desire to do something more or less normal with the combat equipment of the then Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo did not disappear anywhere.
Only changed a couple of details, but I already like how the design echoes the regular CEDF officer's uniform.
I haven't posted anything on Tumblr for years, BUT that silence is broken for Thrawn.
I've read 7.5 Thrawn books in the last couple of months, I'm in deep, it's become my Roman empire, and that behind the scene photo from Ashoka fucked me up.
genuinely i think id freak it if i was in eli’s position bc what the hell man. u get assigned to be this random ass dude’s aide and translator and ur like 22 (should be at the club). ten fucking years go by he ships u off to his ppl w his DIARY that talks abt how much of a friend u were to him (guy who notoriously has like three fucking friends). btw u have this fuck ass situationship going on all the while. the next time he sees u after dumping u w his ppl he only greets u w “good day lieutenant vanto” BITCH id be on the fucking news
The devil is in the details - the attention costume designers put into this is amazing, wear & tear over the years at the collar & fasteners. I also love the thought of Thrawn staying true by wearing his uniform everyday but also sewing his own buttons/ clips back on his tunic 🤣
In a lot of western military weddings, men often wear their dress uniforms and so that’s what I decided to put them in as a base. The dress uniform is a little fancier than a normal CDF uniform, featuring a sash, more embellished belt, gold epaulets - yes I spelled it wrong on the sheet lol - to display honor chains, and other gold details such as on the boots and gloves (not shown).
Thrawn being a member of one of the Ruling Families wears a burgundy robe over his uniform - burgundy being the Mitth family color - and a long, thick, embroidered cloak/cape custom to him (I like to think he designed it in his twenties, never thinking he’d ever wear it 🥺) The two also wear a gold Mitth family belt buckle.
I wanted Eli to have some Lysatran traditions and decided to go with the exchange of grass/grain wreaths that are made of local plants from their homeworlds. Eli then exchanges his Lysatran wreath with Thrawn’s wreath made out of plants from Rentor, with a vow along the lines of “my home will always be your home”.
To signify Eli’s transition into House Mitth, Thrawn will drape Eli in his cloak/cape - I did steal this from Game of Thrones, see Sansa and Tyrion’s wedding - that is uniquely his. I decided to go with the double snake design that (I think?) comes from the ring Thrawn receives in Chaos Rising.
Me in August when it turns out that Thrawn and Ezra did NOT spend 1-3 years camping and becoming reluctant-allies-turned-friends before being picked up by Eli and the EDF:
Eleventh Fleet AU - Thrawn, Eli Vanto and Karyn Faro's timeline concept arts set.
Suddenly I wanted to make a selection of art and see the progress - I really enjoyed drawing the timelines for the characters.
I'm especially pleased with how they turned out ////v////
