Chaos in response to Covid-19 is no surprise. Nor is the unscrupulous operators’ pursuit of profit and political advantage * Coronavirus – latest US updates * Coronavirus – latest global updates * See all our coronavirus coverageThe utter chaos in America’s response to the coronavirus pandemic – shortages of equipment to protect hospital workers, dwindling supplies of ventilators and critical medications, jaw-dropping confusion over how $2.2tn of aid in the recent coronavirus law will be distributed – was perhaps predictable in a nation that prides itself on competitive individualism and hates centralized power. But it is also tailor-made for Donald Trump, who has spent a lifetime exploiting chaos for personal gain and blaming others for losses.“I don’t take responsibility” for the slow rate of coronavirus testing in the US, he said.On Friday, when asked if he could assure New Yorkers there would be enough ventilators next week when virus victims are expected to overwhelm city hospitals, he replied: “No. They should have had more ventilators.”Trump has told governors to find life-saving equipment on their own. He refuses to create a central bargaining agent, arguing the federal government is “not a shipping clerk”. This has left states and cities bidding against each other, driving up prices.Andrew Cuomo, the New York governor, described how ventilators went from $25,000 to $45,000 “because we bid $25,000. California says, ‘I’ll give you $30,000’ and Illinois says, ‘I’ll give you $35,000’ and Florida says ‘I’ll give you $40,000. And then, Fema [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] gets involved and Fema starts bidding!“And now Fema is bidding on top of the 50! So Fema is driving up the price. What sense does this make? We’re literally bidding up the prices ourselves.”New York state is paying 20 cents for gloves that normally cost less than five cents, $7.50 for masks that normally go for 50 cents, $2,795 for infusion pumps that normally cost half that, $248,841 for a portable X-ray machine that typically sells for $30,000 to $80,000.Who’s pocketing all this? An array of producers, importers, wholesalers and speculators. State laws against price gouging usually don’t apply to government purchases. Some of it may be finding its way into this fall’s election campaigns. The veteran Republican fundraiser Mike Gula and Republican political operative John Thomas just started a company selling coronavirus testing kits, personal protective equipment and other “hard to find medical supplies to beat the outbreak”. They call themselves “the largest global network of Covid-19 medical suppliers”.Asked how he’d found such equipment, Gula explained: “I have relationships with a lot of people.”Thomas added: “In politics – especially if you’re at a high enough level – you are one phone call away from anybody in the world.”Meanwhile, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner – who’s one phone call away from anyone – is running a “shadow” coronavirus task force that has been enlisting the private sector and overseeing the Strategic National Stockpile of medical supplies, all out of public view.“It’s supposed to be our stockpile – it’s not supposed to be state stockpiles,” he said cryptically on Thursday.Oh, and let’s not forget the giant coronavirus bill Trump signed into law on 27 March, which created a $500bn fund that Trump and his treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin, will distribute to the private sector. Most of it will backstop $4.5tn of subsidized loans (ie, bailout money) coming from the Fed, also distributed by the Treasury. In a signing statement, Trump said he wouldn’t agree to provisions in the bill for congressional oversight – meaning the wheeling-and-dealing will be in secret. When the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said she’d form a special select committee to watch how the money is spent, Trump accused her of “conducting partisan investigations in the middle of a pandemic”, adding: “Here we go again … It’s witch hunt after witch hunt.”Is there any doubt Trump will try to use this money, as well as his son-in-law’s secretive dealings, to improve his odds of re-election?Trump was impeached a mere three and a half months ago on charges of abuse of power and obstructing investigations. Eight months ago, he phoned the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, seeking dirt on Joe Biden and threatening to hold up military aid to get it.In June 2016, his son Donald Jr and Jared Kushner met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, after a Russian intermediary contacted Trump Jr with a promise to provide material that would “incriminate” Hillary Clinton and be “very useful to your father”, adding it was part of the Russian government’s “support” for Trump.Donald Trump calls allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 election a “hoax”. He called his impeachment a “hoax”. He initially called the coronavirus a “hoax”.But the real hoax is Trump’s commitment to America. In reality he will do anything – anything – to hold on to power. In his mind, the coronavirus crisis is just another opportunity. * Robert Reich, a former US secretary of labor, is professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley and the author of Saving Capitalism: For the Many, Not the Few and The Common Good. His new book, The System: Who Rigged It, How We Fix It, is out now. He is a columnist for Guardian US

Prompt: Thomas Hunt seeing Natalie in this outfit at the Oscar Award function ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media
Are you sure you aren’t becoming a Thomas stan??? 😏 cause you’re coming up with an actual prompt for these two but not Nik and Lexie 🤣 Thank you for the prompt though. I think I can come with something fun for this ❤️ Sorry it took me so long, I’ve got other asks that I haven’t got to either 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
Starstruck
Since my amazing friend above gave me such a great prompt, I hope I did it justice with this below. This little one shot/drabble will take place during the New Beginnings timeline. Thomas and Natalia haven’t gone public with their relationship so she went to the Oscars with Addison and Holly while Thomas arrived alone.

****
Grumbling as she tugs her poofy dress out the door of the limo, the bright flashing lights push her into her graceful stature. Once her gown is straightened, she fixes an elegant smile on her face, greeting the paparazzi with ease. They don’t wait for her two companions to join her before hounding the young author, turned actress, with questions.
“How is your movie coming along?”
“Will your new book be released soon?”
“Can we expect to see you in other films?”
“Does anyone special have your eye?”
Her practiced smile falters, but only for a fraction of a second. Her eyes begin scanning the large crowd of tuxedos and gowns gathered on the red carpet. It’s only when she finds his striking dark hair and tall frame that her smile grows into something much more genuine. When his deep, brown eyes lock on her own, her cheeks grow pink under his scrutinizing gaze. The distance between them was far from close but she can see how his eyes darken a shade as they trail over her figure, stopping at each curve and sliver of skin exposed by her designer gown. Then, he begins to shorten the distance between them. A demanding stride, exuding confidence and air of authority as he ignores questions from the people around him.
Forgetting the two women she arrived with, Natalia starts towards Thomas, meeting him in the middle of the red carpet. A hole between the crowd creates a space of privacy for the two. The loud chattering around them dies out when their eyes meet again.
Each of them losing themselves in the moment.
Thomas takes her hand in his, pressing a gentle kiss on her knuckles before he turns her hand over, exposing her wrist and laying a soft kiss there as well.
She feels her heart pick up it’s pace as his eyes fall to her lips before he clears his throat and releases her hand. Although, he doesn’t step away from her.
“You look…” He pauses, trying to find the correct word.
“Like a Disney princess?” A quiet laugh bubbles up inside her. “Because I feel utterly ridiculous in this poofy thing.”
Natalia looks down at her skirts, wringing her hands in the material. The jewels twisting in her hands as they reflect each flash of a camera. The glittering reflection reminds her of where she is. She smooths out the material, looking back up to Thomas and finds his eyes already settled on her. A slight smirk across his lips.
“I would describe you as quite stunning this evening.” He extends his arm, allowing her to settle her hand in the crook of his elbow. “If I did not know any better, I would have mistaken you for royalty.”
She laughs aloud as they begin walking the red carpet together, headed towards the entrance for the Oscar’s.
Neither noticing the flash of a paparazzi’s camera, catching the moment of both of their smiles, gazing at each other with a look of adoration.

New Beginnings- Chapter 13
After their relationship is outed, Thomas stresses over how to protect Natalia’s career and image. Thanks as always @alj4890 for helping me and convincing me my writing sounds ok 🤣
Warning: swearing, light sexual innuendos/actions

“What the hell is going on, Hunt?”
Lucas, Thomas’ agent has never raised his voice towards the director, but today has been filled with uncharacteristic surprises involving the brooding and (supposed) eligible bachelor.
His polished, brown Santoni’s echo against the marble flooring in the grand entry until they meet the threads of a Persian rug. He stops, pinching the bridge of his nose and he releases a deep sigh.
“This was not supposed to be public information until after the movie had been released.”
“And when was I going to be informed?” Thomas closes his eyes, “Cause where I’m standing, you’d think telling your agent would be a high priority. Especially when you want to keep news out of the news!”
He stares at the wall, clenching his jaw. “I kept it from you in hopes of keeping it from everyone. I did not see any point in revealing a private relationship to you.”
The younger agent nearly growls in frustration and Thomas has to pull the phone away from his ear. “This kind of thing ruins careers, Hunt! I didn’t think I had to tell you that. You aren’t some stupid, young, think with your other head kid that has too much fame to go around. You’re smart and don’t let things like this happen.”
He could not begin to fathom how he had let this happen. He told Natalia he would not be the reason her career was brought to ruin. Yet here he was, listening to his agent scold him as though he was a new arrival to the despicable world of Hollywood. As though he was a child.
“It’s time you go on the offensive. Get your ass back to LA and take her out as soon as she’s feeling up to it.” Lucas takes a shuddering breath, his anger simmering on the surface, “Until then, keep your fucking head down.”
Thomas winces and internally cringes at the foul language. He despises using obscenities, despite the occasional use in his head, he tries to never use the words out loud. It was ungentlemanly. It was not him.
Lucas hung up before Thomas could say anything or defend himself further, so he simply shut his phone off and began to pace the marble flooring once more. There were no upcoming awards ceremonies or any parties he knew of, but then again, he usually did not attend such parties.
He paced for another minute or so before he decided on calling his friend.
“Ryan, I must skip pleasantries—“
“I saw the news.” His friend cut him off and silence stretched between them for a few moments.
“Are there any upcoming high profile parties?” Thomas simply stares out the front windows, watching as branches sway in the cool breeze outside.
The estate is quiet today, aside from Mr. DuBois and Elizabeth, and it felt empty. Perhaps it was just the added stressful situation grabbing at his brain.
“Chris has a premier coming up in a few weeks. After that, we’ve got a few birthdays that’ll definitely hit the tabloids. What’s on your mind?” The friendliness in the charming actor’s voice was one of the many reasons Thomas gets along with him.
They’ve known each other for ages, although Ryan doesn’t show his age, his maturity does. He matured in a way Thomas respects and although the man can get on his nerves, much like all his close friends, it never irks him for too long. Vice versa, when Thomas gets in one of his moods, Ryan brushes it off because the elder man is just too serious to let loose. Or so Mr. Summers says.
“It’s time I show the world how much Natalia means to me. The minute she feels ready, we will be attending parties and taking the offensive so I can salvage her image. Can I trust you will assist?”
“Of course. I’ll enlist the others too. We care about you, Hunt, almost as much as we care about Nat.” The chuckle only forces the director’s lips into a tight scowl.
“Much appreciated.” Without a goodbye, he hangs up, leaving Ryan to his own amusement.
THREE MONTHS LATER
Months had come and gone. Most of Natalia’s time was spent resting between physical therapy sessions and editing film with Thomas. Since the accident their friends rallied around the couple and helped with whatever Thomas would allow them to. Everyone chipped in here and there, whether it was regarding the film or navigating the media or just day to day tasks at home.
Now that she’s up again, they’ve needed help less and less thankfully. Her physical therapist has gotten her walking without a cane or any assistance and she knew what that meant.
“The premier is this weekend.” She laid between Thomas’ legs on the couch, eyeing the scar on her right leg as he tightens his arms around her waist. “How are you feeling?”
Insecure.
The bruises and cuts have healed on her face, leaving behind only minuscule scars in a couple spots. He swears no one can see them, but she can. Her eyes leave the scar on her leg and move to the long reminder on her forearm. Gently, her fingers follow its path.
She never thought of herself as beautiful or gorgeous. But now the doubts about herself are only enhanced by the defects on her skin.
“I’ll have to buy a new gown.” Deflecting his question, she focuses on what she would want. “Something floor-length with long sleeves.”
The man holding her nods, but moves a hand to gently trace a line down her arm, sending delicious shivers up her skin. Since the wreck, they had not been intimate and she has been aching for him. Besides chaste kisses that didn’t lead to anything more, she’d begun to doubt his feelings for her. He always said he loves her, which she reciprocated, but don’t actions speak louder? It’s been nearly a year they’ve been together, but still, they have not been together. The accident ruined any chance of that happening after New York when she was ready to give herself to him. So for a few months, her need for him has only increased with no way of acting on it. But now she can walk, surely they can finally give in.
“Why must you cover yourself so much?” His deep voice is hushed and his breath brushes against her ear as his finger is now trailing circles across her exposed thigh.
She internally scolds herself for wearing shorts around him.
“I’m not certain I’m ready to show off the new additions to my skin.” His finger slowly moves higher, to the inside of her thigh and pauses.
Natalia’s breath hitches and she feels a new hardness pushing into her back.
Without any warning, he had flipped their positions on the couch and now braces himself above her. Not even registering what exactly was happening, he presses a deep kiss to her mouth, suffocating any questions that were rising. It didn’t take any time for her body to react, wrapping her arms around his neck as one of his hands slide down her belly, stopping at the waistband of her shorts.
He broke away, looking down at her with darkening eyes that hold an equal amount of love and lust. “This body may have imperfections now, but that does not take away from the fact that every single part of you is beautiful. What has been left on you only shows the world what troubles you have overcome to be where you are now.”
Thomas pauses, his voice becoming deeper as the emotion he feels continues to grow. Love, grief, anguish for what she had suffered. He can see her eyes welling with tears, her hands busying themselves in his hair, so he reaches a hand up, leaving her waist, and gently places it on her cheek. The soft, olive skin is damp from a rogue tear, so he wipes it dry before his thumb moves along her cheekbone.
“My love for you is not only for your looks, my darling, it is for your heart and soul. You should pride yourself on everything you have survived and fought through to get where you are today. You are where you want to be and a handful of scars will never take that away from you.”
The more he spoke and the more he caressed her cheek just made her heart melt. “Thomas—“
Her voice cracks and tears fall slowly before he leans down and kisses her gently. “I love you, sweetheart.”
The gentleness in his voice, the sweetness in his touch, when she closes her eyes and focuses on him completely, that’s when she knows. He really does love her.
“I love you too.”
The next day, she, Addison, and Holly went shopping for gowns. The girls expressed how Natalia was happier than they’d seen for a long time. But the night of the premier, she couldn’t be more nervous.
Her almost sheer silvery, white dress is flowy enough for her to feel free. She knew her nerves were going to be enough for the night, she didn’t want to feel constructed in her gown. The jewels spattered across the material almost convinced Natalia not even to try it on, but Addi convinced her otherwise.
The fashionista had said , “This is your first premier with your sexy, reclusive director… I can’t believe I just called him sexy.” She then proceeded to make a gagging noise before she thrusted the dress into her friend’s arms. “You need to make a splash and get everyone’s attention.”
Since the surgery on her arm, she hasn’t gotten the full use of it yet, so Addison is at Thomas’ doing Nat’s hair. “I love your hair.”
The blonde sighs as she pins curls atop her friend’s head. Natalia has let her hair grow out, the ends a lighter, bleached brown compared to the rest of her deep chestnut color.
“Thanks Addi, I love how you did your hair and your dress.” Her nerves keep her mind occupied so she just gave a short, simple reply to her friend who looks at her worriedly.
Addison has her hair curled with one side pinned back and a bright blue, sparkly gown that fits her slim figure perfectly. “You ok?”
“Hmm?” Natalia looks up and shakes her head, focusing. “I’m fine, I suppose I’m just..”
“Nervous?” She finishes the brunette’s hair and sprays a little hairspray to keep everything in place. After a small nod, she sits on the counter facing Nat. “You don’t have any reason to be nervous. You’ll have Thomas right next to you, Holly and I won’t be far away and of course Ryan and Chris.”
“I know that, it just seems as though things have gone wrong so much as of late and now I’m going out into the public eye for the first time since the accident.” Her eyes inadvertently look at the scar along her forearm, sighing quietly.
Addison catches the movement and she sets a gentle hand on her friend's shoulder, “I think those scars are cool, and if I were you, I’d show them off like a badge of honor.”
Someone behind them clears their throat, urging both the women to turn around. “You both look beautiful.”
Although Thomas says it to both of them, his dark eyes are fixed on Natalia, roaming the curves of her dress and dancing across the updo until they land on her lips. She wears a deep blush that only accentuates her makeup and her eyes meet his every darkening ones again before looking down at her gown.
Addison’s eyes dart back and forth between the two, feeling the sexual tension rising with every second before she suddenly stands, “Thanks, Thomas, I’m gonna head out and meet with Holly. See you two at the premiere.”
When she passes her former professor, she doesn’t look him in the eye and he pays no mind to her either. “You look absolutely stunning.”
Uncomfortable and unsure how to respond, Natalia stands and grips the skirt of her dress subconsciously. As she looks up at him, her breath is taken away. His taut muscles fill his tuxedo, not able to hide the broad shoulders or narrow waist. Her tongue slides across her bottom lip as he adjusts his cufflinks, smirking at her.
Looking away after being caught ogling, she just releases a breath and smiles softly, “Thank you.”
Her quiet response has Thomas moving towards her, gathering her in his strong arms and securing her in a warm embrace. “Any particular reason for your sudden shyness?”
His warm, tender lips move down and across her cheekbone, eliciting quiet moans from her. “Because you just have that effect on me, Mr. Hunt. You seem to bring out a very submissive side that I have no control over.”
A quiet animalistic growl comes from Thomas, his arms tighten around her waist as the admission from her ignites a fire inside him. “We may be fashionably late to this premiere.”
Soon his lips and teeth travel down her neck, careful not to leave marks but firm enough to get her heart racing. As her hands begin to wander, slipping to the front of his slacks, a phone breaks their passion causing Thomas to groan in frustration.
Scowling deeply, he fishes his phone out of pocket, his eyes flashing with concern before he answers. “Yes?”
His gaze settles on Natalia, who is checking her hair and makeup in the mirror. Her eyes meet his and her heart lurches at the worry he wears on his face.
“Yes, I will inform her. Thank you.”
Thomas doesn’t have time to pocket his phone before she places a hand on his arm. “What’s happened?”
“Lucas had been investigating who tipped off our relationship and he says he has finally found the source.”
By the expression on his face, her heart clenches in her chest. “Who was it?”

The Christmas spirit is in full swing thanks to Natalia’s decorating. And Addison’s help. Both ladies started the morning off with coffee, peppermint mochas from Starbucks, and went into full elf mode the rest of the day.
Thankfully for them, Thomas was out for the day so they had his entire home all to themselves.
Both women sigh as they sink into his leather couch, admiring their work. Garland peppered with white lights wraps around the banister of the stairs. Two stockings are hung on his fireplace mantle and in the middle is a sign that reads “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.” A few trinkets accent that sign as well as some fake snow. Mistletoe is hung over a few doorways.
Addi said, “the more chances you give Thomas to kiss you the more chances we have of him being in a good mood.”
Selfishly, Natalia wasn’t going to argue because she quite enjoys his kisses.
The house smells like Santa’s workshop and a bakery all in one. Cinnamon, peppermint, fresh-cut evergreen and even sugar cookies. However, the gingerbread cookies are beginning to give off an amazing aroma in the oven themselves.
“You know, I never realized how tiring it is to decorate.” The blonde leans her head on Nat’s shoulder, sighing dramatically.
Giggling quietly, Natalia nods in agreement. “I quite agree.”
The sound of the front door opening and closing urges Natalia up, excited to see Thomas’ reaction to the decorations. She hurries around the couch, the sleeves of her sweater fall down below her wrists and rest in her palms. Addison gets up and rushes to her friend’s side, both women beaming as the director looks around his entryway. The glow of Christmas lights outside make its way through the large glass window next to the front door. Silent Night can be heard echoing through the Hollywood mansion. Every touch of holiday cheer is bright and festive, but Thomas’ scowl dampens the mood.
“I had the faintest idea of how far you two would go.” He hooks his coat on the rack and strides up the stairs, not looking back.
“Well… I guess I should go.” Addison begins to gather her things. “Sorry you’ve got to deal with that.”
Natalia’s shoulders rise in a half hearted shrug, “It’s alright. I should have expected this. It’s our first Christmas together and I know he does not indulge in childish things.”
The blonde begins to open the door, but pauses and turns around. “Nat, even if he doesn’t enjoy it, you do. That should matter to him more than anything.”
They hug and she departs, leaving an anxious Natalia chewing on her bottom lip and looking around. Since she was a child, Christmas was the most exciting time of year for her. The staff decorated the embassy, but when she was old enough, she would help them. It was the one time of year she felt like her family came together.
“Natalia.”
His deep voice wakes her from her memories and she turns around. He’s leaned against the wall near the stairs, a grey knit sweater replaced his blazer and jeans replaced his slacks. The scowl he wore earlier is gone, now replaced with a guilty frown.
“I apologize. This is as much your home as mine and you’ve brought a joy to it that I could never do on my own.” He pushes upright, looking away as his frown deepens. “You are more talented than any professional decorators I have hired previously.”
A gentle laugh escapes her, “That’s simply because it feels different when it’s done with love.”
Knowingly, his eyes meet her and he smiles softly at her. “Indeed.”
Not wanting to waste another breath, he moves to her and gathers her in his arms, pressing a deep kiss to her lips. His heated lips move across her jaw, behind her ear and settle on her neck. He nips and bites at the sensitive skin, urging moans and gasps from the woman in his arms.
“Oh, Thomas,” her hands wrinkle his sweater in a tight grip.
Suddenly, he pulls away, quirking an eyebrow as he takes a deep breath in. “What is that smell?”
“No!” Natalia runs into the kitchen and she jerks the door open, coughing as smoke pillows out. “It was supposed to be gingerbread cookies, now it’s just a pile of coal.”
Following slowly behind her, Thomas attempts to hide a smile and coughs to cover a laugh. “Is everything alright? I do hope my kitchen survived.”
Slamming the cookie sheet down onto the oven top, she huffs and turns towards him, pointing a finger in his chest. “Now is not the time for you to grow a sense of humor, Mr. Hunt.”
He barks out a laugh, not hiding his amusement anymore. “I apologize, but I do remember that appliance was quite expensive.”
Natalia stomps passed Thomas, headed straight for the stairs, “You are not helping right now.”
Glancing at the charred gingerbread men, he grimaces and begins to follow her path then pauses. Slowly, he turns back and begins scraping the black coal into the garbage before washing the cookie sheet of any evidence of burnt gingerbread. He sets the clean sheet on the counter and begins searching for the gourmet hot chocolate mix that was given to him. Once he’s finally nearly lost in his pantry, he finds it and makes his way back to the kitchen.
Natalia finished washing her face from the ash she swears was there and then heads downstairs. The scowl twisted on her lips disappears when she makes it to the kitchen and sees Thomas. His sleeves are rolled up and he’s pouring steaming milk into the cute, Christmas mugs she had bought for them. While he stirs the cocoa into the milk, he begins to quietly whistle along to Joy To The World.
As he starts to put the milk back in the refrigerator, he pauses when he turns and sees Natalia watching him. He straightens slightly, firming his lips into their normal hardened line and he clears his throat.
“I made you hot chocolate.” When he shuts the refrigerator door, he quirks an eyebrow at her knowing smile. “What?”
“You were whistling to the song.”
A bright red flush creeps up his cheeks and he looks to the ground while he unrolls his sleeves. “Yes, well…”
Her laugh makes him stop and his cheeks burn hotter.
“Thomas, it is alright to allow yourself to relax and enjoy Christmas. You do not have to be so uptight all the time, especially not around me. I’m no one. I don’t matter and I will never tell anyone about your soft side.” Her accented voice softens as she reaches him and takes his larger hands in her own smaller ones. “I love you.”
Pressing a kiss to his tender lips eases the tension in his shoulders, but when they pull apart, he frowns.
“I love you as well, but you are not a ‘no one’, especially not to me.” Thomas steps away and gathers both the mugs, handing one to her and keeping the other for himself. “If you were a no one, I would not have nearly gotten lost in my own pantry to make you a treat.”
Natalia’s small hands wrap around her red mug that reads “merry and bright”, while Thomas holds his white mug that reads “this is my Christmas movie watching mug”. He takes a careful sip and proceeds to nod after tasting the delectable cocoa.
“Addison has good taste. I suppose she has learned something from me over the years.”
He smiles when she giggles and leads him to the couch. Thomas sits, facing the Christmas tree and pulls Natalia against his side. She tucks her legs up under herself and rests her head on his chest while his arm wraps around her shoulders. The burnt smell of gingerbread has been replaced with the smell of hot chocolate and the woman beside him. Her sigh and his smile creates the perfect atmosphere of love and the real meaning of Christmas.

New Beginnings - Chapter 11
Some serious angst is happening in this chapter. I don’t want to give anything away except Thomas is sweet, family is rough, and the city is unforgiving. Thanks to @alj4890 for letting me run stuff by you. I’m not sure if I would’ve posted this if you didn’t help me out 🤣
Word count: 3,340
Warnings: Family drama, mention of hospital

Alexandria stabs a finger in Samuel’s chest, her eyes blazing with fire as she stretches to her full height. Anger palpable, she seethes as she jabs him again.
“Don’t you dare blame me for this. You were supposed to pull your weight, I did my part but you slacked off and decided a little blonde would be more important.” When she turns away, you can see her anger fade into sorrow and hurt. “This is over.”
Long strides carry her to the door, hesitating as she opens it, she steals a glance back at Samuel. Every emotion crossing her face doesn’t compare to the anguish in his eyes, they both fell hard, but one mistake sent the whole thing up in flames. Devastated, she turns and closes the door behind her, her tears streaming freely.
“Cut.” The entire crew claps after Thomas ends the scene and he allows a hint of a smile to form on his lips. “You two were… not to over-inflate your egos, but you both came into your characters perfectly.”
Ryan smiles, relaxing as he saunters over to the craft services table, again, and Natalia wipes her face with shaky hands as she attempts to rein in her emotion.
She approaches Thomas and he quirks a brow, “Are you alright, Miss York?”
Nodding, she takes a deep breath in before releasing it slowly. “I’ve never felt such real, fake emotion before.” A giggle bubbles up inside her and she smiles daintily before squeezing his elbow and walking over to Ryan.
Thomas lets his eyes follow her, a rare, full smile across his lips before he shakes his head slightly and begins packing up. Holly wonders over, making notes on her iPad before she looks up at the director.
“So, we’ve got multiple press outlets pushing for an interview with you, Ryan, and Nat while we’re in New York. Like… The Jimmy Fallon Show, Good Morning America…”
Replying with a grunt and a scowl, he looks at her and raises an annoyed eyebrow. “You know I despise those televised interviews. I did not decide to film here so I could join the flock of gossip hungry vultures.”
“But—“
“No.” He grabs his briefcase, noting the time on his watch and begins to turn away, “And that is final, Miss Chang.”
Shoulders slumping, she waves absentmindedly to Natalia who follows Thomas out. Noticing her friend’s sudden sadness, she looks up to the brooding man next to her.
“What on earth did you do?”
They reach the town car and the driver helps them in before getting behind the wheel again. Thomas settles into the soft leather seat, pinching his nose in an effort to keep his irritation in check. He attempts to relax his tense muscles, rolling his neck slowly and then releasing a deep breath.
“I cannot fathom why Holly would suggest we go on the Jimmy Fallon Show, let alone Good Morning America. She knows that neither of those televised outlets are what I subject myself to. I hardly agree to interviews on the street.”
He snorts in disgust, pulling his phone out to check his schedule, noting they have three hours until dinner with the York’s.
“Well, actually Thomas, I informed Holly of those invitations. My agent thought it would be good press for the movie and my new book.” Natalia chews on her bottom lip anxiously, worry gnawing at her. “You needn’t go with us though.”
As the realization hits him, he suddenly feels a pang of guilt in his heart. He pockets his phone and clears his throat, taking her hand as he struggles to find the words to say. His eyes settle on the passing city, the crowded sidewalk and modern architecture. Thomas takes a deep breath in before he turns back towards her.
“I apologize, had I known it was for you, I wouldn’t have been so rash.” Thinking for a beat while he stares into her eyes, he pulls his phone back out and calls Holly. “Yes, do book those interviews. It will be Natalia, I, and Ryan.”
She says something on the phone before Thomas hangs up, glancing at the shocked woman beside him. He scowls half heartedly, but she just laughs.
“You don’t have to act as though you’re always angry around me.” Natalia presses a lingering kiss to his stubbled cheek before settling in the seat.
Her accent floats through the air and his eyes close, savoring the way her voice dances around and envelops him. Without a second thought, he turns his head and captures her tempting lips with his mouth. The deep kiss urges her forward into his arms as she grips at his lapels. His palm presses against her jaw while his fingers wrap around the side of her neck. When they break apart, Thomas rests his forehead against hers, his deep brown eyes alight as he gazes into hers. He notes the flecks of gold that are sprinkled in her brown irises. The soft skin under his fingertips shoots goosebumps up his arm and his lips twitch as they curve up into a warm smile.
Noticing his kind expression, Natalia feels her own smile grow, and she allows her eyes to flutter closed as her lips meet his again. One of her elegant hands travels up to his neck, resting there as their lips dance in a sweet, sensual manner. This kiss is different from any other they’ve shared before. But before either can explore these feelings anymore, the car comes to a halt, urging the two apart.
The look Thomas gives her is one she’s never seen, if she didn’t know any better, it would be a look of complete love. The door opening breaks her from that train of thought and she accepts the driver’s hand as she exits the car. Her fingers comb through her hair as she waits for Thomas to meet her. Her eyes settle on his form, a million thoughts running through her mind, but when she looks up at his eyes once again, they all stop.
I love him.
—————
A Few Hours Later
—————-
A shaky breath escapes her lips and she closes her eyes.
Thomas and Natalia stand at the door of her parents house at the embassy. She knows they’ve been informed of their daughter’s arrival, but she just had to steal a few more moments to prepare herself. Thomas’ hand slips into hers and he squeezes tightly. She can feel his hot breath dancing across her neck as he leans down to her ear.
“I am with you, darling, and I will support you no matter what.” Following his sweet words, he presses a warm kiss to the shell of her ear.
Looking at him gratefully, she thanks him and finally knocks on the door. Only moments later, the butler opens the door.
“Ah, Miss York, welcome back.” His greying hair matches the wrinkles settling in the corners of his eyes and the worry lines across his forehead. “You must be Mr. Hunt, welcome.”
He sweeps into a bow and Thomas nods, watching as Natalia pats the man’s arm while she smiles warmly.
“Oh, Mister DuBois, it is so good to see you.” She kisses both his cheeks before he motions for both of their jackets. “How have you been, Carlton?”
Carlton smiles as he hangs the jackets in the hall closet of the grand entry and while Thomas listens, his gaze wanders around the wondrous palace-like house. Directly straight ahead of the entryway is a grand staircase, mahogany wood railing accents the bright white paint on the spindles. Marble floors spread this way and that throughout the entire space, Persian rugs warm the spaces as well as all the mahogany trim and mantles.
“But, enough frolicking, you must follow me. Your family has been anxious for your arrival.” Mister DuBois begins leading the couple towards the west side of the house.
Thomas gives Natalia’s hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze before releasing it. He thinks he can see her shoulders droop in relief, but her face shows no emotion. As they step into the great room, three individuals stand up.
“Darling! Oh, it’s so good to see you.” A woman wearing the same smile and hair as Natalia, only older, hurries over and wraps her arms around her daughter.
Natalia sags into the embrace, her eyes closing as she relishes the warmth from her mother. “I’ve missed you, mum.”
The older lady’s eyes settle on Thomas and she straightens, smile all but disappearing. “I am Mrs. Elizabeth York. And you are?”
She extends her hand and Thomas takes it, giving it a gentle shake. “Thomas Hunt. I am directing the movie that we are deriving from Natalia’s first book.”
Then the older man pipes up from the corner of the room, he holds a pipe up to his lips and then lowers it, releasing a puff of smoke. “Hmph. One dreamer to another, eh?”
His black hair is peppered with gray, his clean shaven face has wrinkles from each frown he has worn over the years. Thomas suddenly schools his face into a more neutral expression, clearing his throat.
“It is a pleasure, Mr. and Mrs. York.”
“And I am Landon,” the youngest man in the room, strides quickly to Thomas, shaking his hand before he moves to Natalia and picks her up. He spins her in a circle. “I cannot believe my own sister didn’t tell me she was in town.”
Giggling and grinning, Natalia smiles up at the younger version of her father. “Well, you know, top secret filming and all.”
Her brother lets out a chuckle and it feels oddly familiar to Thomas, warming his heart much like the young man’s sister. He allows a small smirk to show as he watches the siblings banter, but it’s quickly wiped away when their father walks over, his shoulders set, eyes firm and his pipe is now forgotten on the side table.
“You are so ashamed, you were not going to reach out?”
Natalia almost sees a flicker of pain cross his face, but it’s quickly replaced with his normal harsh glare.
“Actually, quite the opposite, Father. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, I just didn’t want to deal with your poor attitude.”
Elizabeth quickly intervenes, motioning for Thomas to sit on the couch. “Please come sit, Mr. Hunt, I will go fetch some tea. Natalia, would you mind helping me? We can let the gentleman talk.”
Obeying her mother, she follows behind, glancing back at Thomas, hoping he can hold his own. When the two women reach the kitchen, her mom puts the kettle on and then turns to her daughter.
“Darling, you look absolutely radiant. You’re glowing.” The motherly tone in her voice and her gentle hand brushing Natalia’s hair back brings a smile out on both their faces. “How long have you and Mr. Hunt been together?”
The smile on Natalia’s face falls, her eyes snap up to her mother’s who gazes knowingly and holds a softness to them. Elizabeth squeezes her daughter’s hand gently, urging her to open up.
“A few months now. We’ve known each other almost eight months, but he was stubborn.” A featherlight laugh dances through the kitchen. “So was I.”
Gracefully laughing with her daughter, Elizabeth motions towards the men in the other room, “He seems quite serious. Does he… talk?”
“Of course, mother.” She rolls her eyes, “He just knows how I feel about father.”
“Ah, well, you two must be quite close for you to share secrets.”
Whistling from the kettle startles Natalia, but she shakes her head when her mom turns to take it off the burner. Watching as Elizabeth pours the boiling water into five cups with tea bags already accompanying them, her elegant fingers play with the hem of her blouse.
“We have spent many nights and days working on the film. I’ve become quite close with the others as well.” Absentmindedly, Natalia gets a serving tray out of the cupboard and sets it on the counter. “He is the only person in my life who fully believes in what I do.”
Elizabeth sets the final cup on the expensive china platter before she turns to her daughter, her hands resting on Natalia’s shoulders. “I have believed in you since the first day I met you. I’m sorry if I have not proven that in the past.”
“Oh mother, you have been put in an impossible situation. Deep down, I know you do. It has been difficult, but I finally feel as though I’ve found my place.”
Both women’s eyes sheen with unshed tears, years of silent understanding pass between them, but Elizabeth clears her throat and nods resolutely. “Good. Now let us take these to the men. I will ask Carlton when dinner will be served.”
She picks up the tray of tea, her daughter follows behind and when they reach the great room, both women hand out cups. When Natalia takes one to Thomas, his eyes search hers questionably. She nods once and gives a small, reassuring smile. He reciprocates the gesture before taking a careful sip of the Earl Grey.
“Now that we’re all settled, what have you gentlemen been gossiping of?”
Landon speaks up quickly, wearing a cocksure grin as he looks to his sister, “Stories of when Nat was just a baby.”
His sister groans and her face flushes red, glancing at Thomas’ knowing smirk. “I understand you have lost touch with your old friends, Itchy and Scratchy.” He chuckles at her exasperation, but subtly bumps her arm with his.
“I cannot believe you told Thomas that story.” She huffs again, crossing her arms and glaring at her brother.
He throws up his hands defensively and grins, “He asked what you were like as a child, how could I lie?”
Everyone except their father laughs, enjoying the reminiscing. Edward looks between Natalia and Thomas, his eyes going from their closeness to the subtle looks they give each other then to the quiet spoken words. Quickly, he puts two and two together, his lips turning down into a fierce frown.
“I see you still have not put your family’s image above your selfish needs.” The booming, authoritative voice breaks through the relaxed group.
“I beg your pardon, father?” Natalia’s eyebrows pinch together in confusion, her heart picking its pace up.
The all too familiar anxiousness begins rising up inside of her. The need to earn her father’s respect comes flooding back to the surface, her nostalgia being replaced by the horrors of her insecurities.
“Edward, please, whatever is irking you can wait. We’ve just gotten our daughter back.” Elizabeth places a gentle hand on his arm and she looks at him pointedly.
“No.” He stands, venom laces his voice as his deep hazel eyes bore into Thomas’. “What will our family image be when the media realizes Natalia York is sleeping with a Hollywood man? We’ll be a joke.”
The women gasp and Thomas scowls deeply, standing to meet the elder man. “Now, it is my turn to beg your pardon, Mr. York.”
In unison, Elizabeth and her children stand. Landon moves to the two men in the center of the room, stepping between them.
“Father, perhaps you would like to reword your question?” The political tone doesn’t hide the disappointment in his eyes, he glances back at his sister, knowing her fight or flight has engaged.
“I do not think so, I asked a question, I would like your sister to answer.”
Thomas steps in front of Natalia protectively, hiding her from the angry glare of her father. “Mr. York, I believe we should take our leave now. I appreciate your—“
“Yes, we are together. Does that make you just hate me even more, father? Do I just live up to every single expectation you have of me? The failure of the family. I’ve earned that title since I turned eighteen, haven’t I?” Her eyes brim with fresh tears, her bottom lip trembling.
Without another word from everyone, she turns and hurries out of the great room. All that’s left in her wake is the stunned silence between the group. They hear the door slam and Thomas turns to the family, taking a step back from Edward. His hands clench at his sides, but he forces his expression to be neutral.
“I need you all to promise discretion regarding our relationship. I do not want to tarnish her reputation before this movie has been released.” His eyes move past the agreeable nods from Elizabeth and Landon, but his gaze turns harsh when he’s met by the stubborn eyes of Edward. “Despite what you think of your daughter, her reputation reflects on you as well.”
The director steps forward menacingly, “Regardless of your attitude towards Natalia, I know you are selfish enough to worry about your own reputation. Nevertheless, she has the talent to become a history maker without needing your support. I would like to make certain I am not the cause of the media causing a discourse about our relationship.”
A beat of silence passes before Thomas worries more about Natalia than her father and he turns on his heels, striding out of the room, hurrying outside.
Suddenly, when he reaches the outskirts of the embassy, the city seems larger than ever. She isn’t in front of the embassy, he doesn’t see her across the street, and he can only imagine where she could have gone. Feeling his heart race, he takes several deep breaths and runs a hand through his hair.
“Thomas!” Landon’s voice rings out over the honking and motor noises.
The director turns and watches as he runs towards him, his chestnut hair blowing in the breeze. The young man places a hand on Thomas’ shoulder and squeezes.
“I know where she’s gone.” He turns back towards the embassy gates, not waiting for Thomas to follow, “Come, we’ll take my car.”
The two men hurry to the black sedan and speed out onto the busy street. Landon keeps glancing at the man next to him, noticing it, Thomas clears his throat.
“Is there something you’d like to say?”
Flushing slightly at being caught, Landon shrugs nonchalantly, “Is it true?”
Raising an eyebrow, Thomas turns towards him, “Regarding Natalia and I?”
A simple nod is the only answer he gets. Pensively, the director looks out the window, looking for his Natalia.
“Yes. But I must ask for discretion. I do not want this to come back to her negatively.”
A slight smile spreads across Landon’s face at the answer he was given. “I’d never dream of hurting her.”
They drive for a couple hours looking at all of Natalia’s old haunts, but have not had any luck. Landon pulls over and parks, running a frustrated hand through his hair and he sighs loudly.
“She probably went somewhere I wouldn’t find her.” He huffs again, “She is so infuriating.”
Thomas smiles and pulls his phone out, she still hasn’t responded to his text nor has she called him back. “Endearingly so.”
They share a chuckle but Landon’s phone begins to ring loudly, breaking through the laughter. Though, after he answers, his face turns grave.
“They’re certain?” He frowns and hurries to start the car, speeding away from the curb. “They’ve taken her to Lenox Hill? Alright, we’re on our way.”
Noticing the abrupt change and vaguely recognizing that name, Thomas tenses. “What’s happened?”
“Natalia is in the hospital. My father and mother are on their way.”
Gritting his teeth, holding his emotion in, he dares to ask the question he’s afraid to hear the answer to. “Is she alright?”
“We don’t know yet. They won’t release details over the phone, all they said is that the cab she was in was hit by a semi.”
It feels as though Thomas was hit by a ton of bricks, he gasps for a breath of air while he looks out the window, not seeing anything except flashes of Natalia.
Why did I not tell her?

I love you. I hope you know that.
This is the day 30 prompt for @choices-september-challenge-blog. “I love you. I hope you know that.” I literally just threw this together on a whim, I figured even something small, at least I got in on this challenge 😂 I’m sad I missed so many days of it.
Ship: Thomas Hunt x OC (Natalia York)
Warnings: Angst (no cussing or anything bad)
Perma tags: @drstrange46ers
Thomas tags: @alleksa16 @alj4890 @choicesmakemychoices @marycarrillo21 @lxaah11 @kuladekiwi @ajayismybae @choices-dan @miss-indecisive-says @mfackenthal @ethanplaysfavorites @amillionmoonsred @usuallyamazinglyaverage @thethots-plicken @hhiggs @jlpplays1 @lilyoffandoms
“I love you. I hope you know that.”
That was the last thing he had said to her. She couldn’t even respond before she got ushered onto the private jet. The despondent look in his eyes broke her heart into tiny pieces.
But she asked him.
“Do you want me to stay?”
Every fiber in his body was telling him to say yes. To tell her the truth. But the opportunity she was being presented was too good to pass. A teaching position at Juilliard was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He couldn’t be the reason she missed out on it.
“No. I want you to be successful and do what you love. And you, Miss York, love helping others.”
They had followed that moment with the most beautiful love they had ever made. She cried afterwards and he held her in his strong arms. He knew he could go join her, but his ties were in Hollywood. She told him she couldn’t do long distance, not after her ex.
“I trust you, but I don’t trust myself not to think horrible things that would ruin us.”
She couldn’t ask him to wait for her, if it was meant to be, they would find a way back together. Her insecurities were something she had to work on and that would not be easy when they were on opposite ends of the country. She couldn’t bear the thought of all the beautiful women Thomas is around constantly. She knew he wouldn’t ever cheat, but she couldn’t trust herself.
When she sat in her seat on the private jet, she had looked out the window. He stood there, the same dejected eyes, disheveled hair he had been wearing the past couple days and a deep frown. He waved, holding his hand in the air for a few moments, then the plane began to taxi.
She put her hand on the window and her tears fell freely.
“I love you too. I hope you know that.”

Is there something your MC and li can never agree on? If yes, what is it?
Hi anon! This is a great question! ❤️
So I feel like with Thomas and Natalia, for the most part, they agree on most everything. They’re both old souls, enjoy the finer things, and aren’t into wild parties. That being said, Natalia is much more outgoing and personable. We all know Thomas doesn’t enjoy small talk or talking with anyone he doesn’t know, but Natalia is the opposite. And it isn’t just because she came from a political family, it’s just who she is. He hates being out in public for long unless it’s on a date with her, but she’s taught him to to at least try to be sociable. At least with people who don’t annoy him to the ends of the earth. He still disagrees with it, but tries for her.
Ethan and Casey argue mostly about diagnostics 😂 not at work, but at home when she studies. He gives her trick questions and then smiles when she gets them right, but adds another layer of symptoms to confuse her. He does it to mess with her but also to push her to be her best.
Nik and Lexie can never agree on her safety. She’ll think she’s fine, but Nik always worries and will watch her like a hawk. He’s overprotective in a way that annoys Lexie, but at the same time she understands where he’s coming from. He’s lost everything he’s ever loved to these monsters they chase.

New Beginnings - Chapter 10
Continuing on with this story, the cast and crew of Beautiful Endings arrive in NYC. While filming is going smoothly, personal matters flare up and we see some characters Natalia would’ve rather stayed away.
Word Count: 1,770
Warnings: Light swearing
Perma tags: @drstrange46ers

The sudden lurch of the wheels touching down on the runway of JFK woke Natalia with a startle. She had finally fell asleep next to Thomas after an hour in the air and while her neck has a kink in it, she slept for the remainder of the flight. The private jet’s amenities didn’t do much to calm her nerves and she hardly slept the night before their flight. Her eyes have dark circles under them and she felt grateful being able to fly privately. While the darkness outside doesn’t help wake her up, the reality of where she is, does.
Utterly exhausted, she takes her headphones out and stretches, sending Thomas a small smile as he gets up. As she starts to get up, he holds his hand out to her, helping her up.
Addison, Holly, and Ryan all start heading out, making small talk, sharing yawns, and staggering down the stairs to the tarmac. Even Thomas looks exhausted, but rightly so. Before they caught their flight, he felt like they needed to film more that morning.
Everyone being up early, working, and then flying had them on edge, exhausted, and ready to get settled for what Natalia called a long two weeks. She wasn’t referring to the film, though.
She couldn’t count how many times she scrolled through her contact list, staring at her brother’s number. Then at her mother’s. Thomas caught her once, he encouraged her, gently, to call. But she couldn’t. If she could get in and out of NYC without interacting with her past, she was going to.
“Penny for your thoughts?”
Thomas’ deep, soothing voice startled her out of her daze. As their feet step down onto the blacktop, she steals a glance at his profile, marveling at the way his jawline somehow seems sharper in the darkness. His stubble is accentuated by the bright lights of the runway, his eyes have a certain sparkle to them under the stars, and his hair blows slightly in the cool breeze.
She snuggles into his arm, causing him to wrap it around her, pulling her into his side and he smiles when she settles against him. They walk in silence a moment longer before she sighs quietly.
“I was just thinking about everything. My family. This film. My book.” Glancing up at him quickly, she continues, “You.”
Thomas smirks, “Do continue.”
Giggling, a sound he never tires of, she looks up at him as they reach their car. He helps her in before sliding in next to her. The driver has the privacy barrier up, he knew where he needed to take them and they settle in for the ride to the hotel.
“I just mean how you’ve helped me so much and how much I can lean against you for support. Which, by the way, I am beyond grateful for.”
He kisses her forehead softly, mumbling a quiet “you’re welcome.” Her elegant, accented voice breaks him out of his reverie.
“Are the others staying at the same hotel?”
“Yes, I believe they all were heading to clubs.” His voice holds an edge of disgust as he spits out the last word.
“If I wasn’t so tired I’d join. There are some great clubs around here.” As if on point, a yawn escapes her.
Her head lolls to his shoulder, her eyes fluttering shut as he holds her tightly against him.
The Next Day
“Cut.” Thomas stands, beginning to pack his things, “That will be all today. I will decide on our next filming location later and inform you all soon.”
The day had gone by smoothly, surprisingly, Thomas thought, and they had accomplished far more than he had expected the first day in town.
“Thomas?”
He didn’t even need to turn around to know who stood behind him. “Yes, Natalia?”
“Could we take a walk through the park?”
Looking around Central Park, he assessed there hopefully wouldn’t be too many prying eyes. Not to mention, the pleading tone in her voice told him he needed to say yes, nevertheless.
“Of course.” Organizing all his notes and paperwork into his briefcase, he hands it to Holly. “Take this to our driver and tell him to meet us at the entrance of the park.”
“Okay.” After he didn’t say anything in return, she grumbles, “You’re welcome.”
The screenwriter heads off in the opposite direction than her director and Natalia. Thomas offers her his arm and she takes it happily. Their stroll was filled with companionable silence, but when they stumble upon more people, the couple force themselves apart.
Soon, they pass the zoo and Thomas breaks the silence as the entrance comes into view. “May I ask why we went on this stroll?”
Natalia sits on a bench across from the zoo, Thomas follows suit. Children run wildly towards all the exotic animals, their parents attempt to wrangle them to no avail. The smell of kettle corn wafts out to where the two sit and she allows her head to fall back. Closing her eyes as a wave of nostalgia hits her. When she straightens and opens her eyes, he looks at her with a relaxed smirk.
“Do you ever miss something?” Urged by his confused frown, she continues, “Like a place and time where things seemed ok?”
He studies her a moment, contemplating. “I used to.”
When she looks back at him, her heart jumps at the intensity he gazes at her with. “You mean you don’t miss anything anymore?”
Thomas sits straighter, watching couples holding hands with their children. Seeing kids’ eyes alight with excitement as they run to and fro. He never noticed things like that before. “Natalia, in the past, I loathed change. I never understood why people implied change was for the better. But, since having met you, you have changed that perspective.”
Her eyes widen with his revelation, she realizes how madly and deeply she’s fallen for him, and perhaps he’s fallen too.
Just as they begin to leaning towards each other, a voice from the past startles her.
“Nat? Is that really you?”
Both Thomas and Natalia’s eyes snap to the clean shaven young man. His dark black suit, bright blue tie, and styled blond hair meant only one thing. Thomas didn’t have to ask, this is her ex. This is the Senator to be.
“Andrew?” Surprise laces her voice, stumbling to stand, but she manages to jump up.
“I heard rumors someone was making your book into a movie. I had to come see for myself.” His practiced gaze settles on Thomas. “I’m surprised anyone with a name, let alone the Thomas Hunt.”
The politician holds his hand out for a shake, but is met instead with a dark glare.
“I’m rather unimpressed, Mr. Childers.” The steady tone and deep disgust held inside his tone matches his eyes.
After getting the hint, the younger man drops his hand and turns back towards Natalia. “I feel like we should catch up, no?”
“No.”
Stunned by her flat tone, he stands there for a moment in surprise, “Well, at least let us all go out for a drink or two. I’d love to interrogate Mr. Hunt about Hollywood, your book,” he pauses a moment and looks directly into the other man’s steely, brown eyes, “you.”
Thomas’ whole body tenses in a mixture of unreleased anger and anxiety. While what the younger man was implying is true, no one outside of close friends should know the truth.
“Preferably, I would rather share drinks with a raccoon.” She grabs Thomas’ hand and turns away from Andrew, stalking away without another word.
After a few moments of being dragged, he finally catches up and steals multiple glances towards her. He watches her with a hint of pride, having to rein in a chuckle at her last jab, he allows a delighted smile to flit across his lips.
After they get inside the car, Natalia’s hands shake from the withheld anger. Her eyes begin streaming hot tears. She swipes them away with a firm hand, muttering quiet obscenities.
“That cad wouldn’t know anything good if it hit him straight in the face. That bloody pillock can go stick it where the…”
Her frustrated face looks to Thomas for help, “What is it the Americans say?”
Holding in laughter, he answers her with an amused smirk. “I believe the phrase you are searching for is ‘where the sun don’t shine’.”
“Yes!” A loud groan escapes her and she stares out the window. “Just looking at him again brought all those old feelings back to the surface. When I found him with the other woman. I wanted to hit him so bad, but I just… I ran. Like today.”
After the realization hits her, her angry facade crumbles. “I’m such a fool.”
Her hands cover her face as her shoulders quake with emotion. Thomas’ amusement fades immediately as he wraps an arm around her shoulders, quietly shushing her.
“You are no fool. It is clear there is no reasoning with him.” He runs a hand through her hair, scowling, “I cannot fathom what brought him to attempt to be cordial with me. My reputation should precede me.”
A phone pinging with a notification breaks both of them out of the emotional turmoil. But soon, Natalia’s face falls again, she hands her phone over to Thomas as she falls back against the seat.
“Hello darling, we’ve heard you are in town. Let’s have dinner tomorrow night at six.”
“My mother means well, as does my brother, but father…” she trails off, shaking her head.
“Perhaps, inviting one more will help smooth things over?” He smiles reassuringly, “I at least will provide a buffer.”
Without much hesitation, she takes her phone from him, sending a quick reply.
“Alright, but a friend will be joining me.”
After another beat, her phone pings once more.
“Sounds lovely. See you soon, we’ve missed you.”
Natalia drops her phone, shaking her head. “This trip was to be a quick in and out. We’ve been here one day and I’ve already failed at the one goal I had hoped to achieve.”
Rubbing her back softly, Thomas speaks in a gentle voice, “You have not failed. I will assist you in whatever way possible tomorrow night.” He kisses her cheek, nuzzling her softly before pulling away. “Now, let us go get a drink. I know a quiet speakeasy that most definitely will be off of that cad’s radar.”
A sweet giggle bubbles up in her and she looks gratefully at the man sitting next to her. “Thank you, Thomas.”
“You never have to thank me.”

What would Thomas Hunt to for Natalie's birthday?
Thanks for the ask my friend ❤️ this is fun to think about 😊
If her birthday was on a weekday, he would cook her something special. My HC for him is he has Italian roots, so he would cook something his grandmother taught him. He would light a candle and turn his lights down low in the dining room, play some Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra and have a romantic dinner.
If her birthday was on a weekend, he’d whisk her away to Lake Tahoe or maybe even Jackson, WY so they could have a romantic getaway and so Natalia could explore more areas she’s never been to.
As for gifts, he would buy her multiple small things that are her favorites. Soft socks, bath bombs, a bottle of red wine, and a new journal. But he would also find one special thing that she had pointed out to him long before her birthday. Whether it is something big or something small, it most likely was very expensive and something she would never treat herself with.
He doesn’t ever want to be considered cliche, yet with her, he finds himself buying roses and jewelry for her quite often. He enjoys spoiling her, so when her birthday or Christmas or Valentine’s Day comes around he always wants to do something special for her.

New Beginnings - Chapter 9
The next couple/few chapters may be short, but I’m loving where this series is headed. This chapter is more jealous Thomas and shows how this couple is battling their own issues separately.
Word Count: 1,625
Warnings: None
Perma tags: @drstrange46ers
Thomas tags: @alleksa16 @alj4890 @choicesmakemychoices @marycarrillo21 @lxaah11 @kuladekiwi @ajayismybae @choices-dan @miss-indecisive-says @mfackenthal @ethanplaysfavorites @amillionmoonsred @usuallyamazinglyaverage @thethots-plicken @hhiggs @jlpplays1 @lilyoffandoms
“Alex, I can’t take it anymore.” Samuel motions between the two of them, “I can’t stop myself anymore.”
Alexandria grins up at him with a warm smile, nearing him slowly, “So you feel the same?”
Nearly growling, he sweeps her up in his arms, “I have since I first met you.”
The two embrace a passionate kiss, on screen their lust will be palpable, but between Ryan and Natalia it’s a bit awkward. Anyone watching couldn’t tell the difference, but that meant trouble for a certain someone in charge.
Thomas’ jaw clenches so tightly a sharp pain shoots through his teeth, his hands grip the armrests of his director’s chair and his knuckles turn white from the force. He is trying to stay quiet, he knows it’s just for the movie, he knows there are no feelings there and he knows it’s not real. But, lord, it feels real.
When the actors break away, an adoring look is on Natalia’s pretty face. Her hand slips up to Samuel’s jaw, caressing it softly. “I’ve been waiting for you to do that.”
“Cut!”
His voice, more like a roar, carried so much frustration, anger, and pure loathing than he intended. It rang out so loud the entire studio was silent afterwards.
When all eyes settle on him, including Natalia’s worried orbs, he stares at Ryan with a deep scowl.
“Prepare for the next scene.” He stands, walking to the craft services table and getting himself a cup of coffee.
He immediately takes a drink, ignoring the burn of his mouth. When Natalia sidles up to him, pouring herself a cup of hot water and adding an earl grey tea bag, she quietly clears her throat.
“What did I do wrong?”
Thomas bristles at the question, “What did you do wrong?”
Surprised by the elevated tone in his voice, she widens her eyes and snaps her focus to him. Her hand stills on the spoon stirring her tea.
“Surprisingly, you did nothing wrong. You have been nothing but perfect. I am not certain if this was a good idea.” He angrily motions to the entire set.
“What do you—“
Thomas cuts her off quickly.
“Nothing. Continue on, I know you are enjoying this.”
He stalks off, leaving his nearly full cup of black coffee steaming on the table.
Her eyebrows furrow together in confusion and her bottom lip trembles as she begins backing away from the table.
Overhearing everything, Ryan had come up behind them.
“Natalia, wait.” Ryan reaches for her, but she shakes her head and turns away, going to the empty film room.
She slams the door, the sound echoing through the silent studio. Thomas sags in his chair, running hand over his face while whispers carry out over the room.
“What is going on between those two?”
“Haven't you heard? She’s staying at his house.”
“So she slept her way into this deal?”
Thomas turns his menacing voice on the crew gossiping. “If I were you three, I would shut my mouth before one, or all of you lose your jobs. Ms. York has exuded talent that not only sent her book to the New York Times bestseller list, but also caught my eye and my agent’s eye. Not only is she a talented author, as you can clearly see with your own deplorable eyes, she is quite talented at acting.”
The three crew members nod in agreement and scurry away as quickly as they can. Thomas lets out a deep breath through his teeth, running a hand through his hair and groaning quietly.
“Hunt, we need to talk.” Ryan’s usually charming voice is clipped and he wears an irritated look on his face.
Thomas turns, raising an eyebrow, “About?”
“Natalia turned me down because of you, right?” He watches as his old friend tenses, but his face shows no emotion. “You could have just come to me. We’ve been friends for how long? If I had known, I never would’ve jeopardized anything between you two.”
The director feels his body sag with… relief and embarrassment. Although his face is devoid of emotion, he nods, showing the gratefulness in his eyes.
“I should have acted with more maturity than I did. This was not something I was certain about until recently.” After clearly his throat, Thomas continues, “You always have been the heartthrob in Hollywood. I am just the old… grouch, as Holly refers to me.”
Ryan smirks goodnaturedly, “Well, obviously you got something she likes more than what I’ve got. And that’s saying something.” He winks and grips his friend’s shoulder. “You don’t have to worry about me. I want the best for you.”
After a tight nod and thank you, Thomas goes to inform Holly that they are finished for the day.
“I agree that we had a good day going and got a lot done, but what in the heck happened back there?” The screenwriter’s baffled and exasperated look earns her a frown from the director.
“A mistake. Now, if you do not mind, send everyone home. I have something that requires my immediate attention.”
Buttoning his blazer, Thomas stalks towards the film room, ignoring the dispersing crew. When he arrives outside the door, he knocks softly. After no response, he knocks louder.
“Natalia? It’s Thomas. I have something I want… no, I need to say.”
He hears a muffled sniffle and then footsteps, followed by the door unlocking. Although it remains closed, he takes that as an invitation. Slowly, carefully, he opens the door and sees the beautiful woman who he’s taken with sitting on the floor against the wall. Tears stain her cheeks and her eyes are red, her arms are wrapped around herself. When her eyes finally look up at him, he sees the brokenness clouding them.
Thomas shakes his head, mumbling obscenities at himself, as he reaches her, he kneels down in front of her. “Natalia, I came to apologize.”
She doesn’t look up at him again, urging him to continue, “Jealousy… is not something I am familiar with. Not to this extent. What I feel for you is more intense than anything I have ever felt for any person. Seeing you and Summers locked in a… passionate embrace, albeit fake, was still difficult for myself to watch. I know you do not see anything in him, but when I cannot openly express the fondness my heart feels for you, it…”
“Hurts?” She finally looks up at him, eyes dried but still red rimmed and her voice is hoarse. “Because believe me, I understand.”
Watching him wince was satisfying for Natalia, but she allows him to continue.
“I am beyond sorry, Natalia. I am angry at myself for hurting you and not putting your emotions first. I understand if you stay angry at me for some time, I just wanted to ensure I made you know that I regret my actions entirely.”
Thomas stands, brushing his knees off and turns, heading for the door. Hearing her clear her throat makes him stop. He slowly turns and she walks quickly to him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
“We have both seen sides of people who betrayed us, I understand where you are coming from, but after last time… I just assumed you got over whatever got under your skin. We talked, I reassured you, we made up.” Natalia’s cheek presses against his chest and he presses his hand against the back of her head, the other on her waist.
“I know. I am truly sorry.”
They both enjoy a moment of silence, basking in each other’s comfort. When Thomas steps back, he places a gentle hand under her chin, lifting it softly so he can kiss her. It’s the sweetest kiss they’ve shared. He tries to convey his regrets into it, showing her how much he cares for her. As they break apart, her eyes may still be red, but they hold the care and comfort he was accustomed to.
“I also had something else weighing on my mind.” He runs a hand through his hair, clearing his throat. “I want to fly to New York soon so we can film scenes there as well.”
Natalia’s eyes snap to his, her shoulders tensing visibly. “When?”
His cheeks burn slightly under her scrutinizing gaze, “As soon as possible. I spoke with the mayor, he will allow us to film in Central Park and if there is a street that we need to use, he will assist in any way possible.”
“Thomas, if it is something that must absolutely happen, I will not put up a fight. It will be lovely to go back to New York, I just… I have no doubt my family will find out as well.”
He sees her chewing on her bottom lip, her forehead creased with worry and her fingers tremble slightly as she tucks her hair behind her ear. Knowing this is causing an undeniable amount of stress, he goes to her and holds her in a tight embrace.
“No matter the circumstances, I will be beside you every step of the way.” Closing his eyes, he presses a lingering kiss to the top of her head. “I must say, although I have been to New York multiple times, going with you is something I very much look forward to.”
Feeling him and hearing his reassurances allow her to melt. It reminds her of why she fell for the man and why she trusts him completely. While her trust and comfort in him is absolute, the wretched memories of her father and that lifestyle still linger in the forefront of her mind.
There was a reason she left and that reason will find her as soon as she steps foot onto their soil.

Favorite ice cream flavour of Thomas & Natalia?
Tumblr media
This was tough for me 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ (btw thanks for sending this ask about them, you really need to read RCD 😏)
Thomas doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, unless it comes to cinnamon rolls. He enjoys things that are more savory, coffee, espresso, scotch. But I think Natalia could make him enjoy a good gelato. Not ice cream, I know, but it’s close 😂
She’d probably introduce him to espresso gelato and he’d get hooked, then she would make him try the espresso with some chocolate or salted caramel and he will never admit how much he enjoys it.
