Can we please talk about how underrated the last part of the opera scene is in ffh?? Like Peter stopping to look back at mj before he has to leave, and mj turning around and seeing him right before he leaves, and immediately following him?? like just no hesitation either she immediately stands up and leaves. Idk what it is just something about it gets me every time but I never see anyone talk about it

Am I the only one who thinks that Peter and Ned wouldn't be as close after Ned and MJ get their memories back? I still think they would be best friends but they just wouldn't be as close of best friends as they were before?

I think about this a lot. The thing about Peter’s choice at the end is depending on how it’s fixed and how long it’s been, I am more of the mind that in Reality, MJ might be the one who is less likely to accept Peter back in her life.

Like we all know Peter and MJ are endgame because of the Mythos and History but in Actual Reality? Actually Looking at Canon without shipping goggles?

Peter and MJ dated for a grand total of four months. Max.

Why tf would she be so freely and easily willing to accept the boy who broke her heart and his promise back into her life years later? When she’s forgotten him for longer than she ever dated him? For longer than she even knew him?

We don’t actually know how long Peter and Ned were friends or the effect of the memory spell on their Life and Experiences. I can easily imagine Ned being upset and hurt that Peter didn’t just break his promise but broke apart years of memories.

I’m optimistic, maybe stupidly so, for how they all will come back together again. But I’m hesitant to say it’s only Ned that wouldn’t be as close.

Not when Peter and MJ didn’t have much of a relationship to begin with.

I think should is a strong word. There’s a lot of reasons why I can easily imagine Ned and MJ would forgive Peter, just as I can imagine plenty of reasons why they wouldn’t.

Should implies there’s a right or wrong answer here and I personally just think it’s a lot more complicated than that. @promiseofthepremise and I talk about that nuance + complication in a treacherous gain a LOT but I think personally, that’s something I’d love to see more of in fandom. Enough with the instant forgiveness, let them think about it. Let them wonder. Let them be upset! It’s not that they can’t or wouldn’t forgive him but there’s a Lot There and I think it undermines Ned and MJ’s agency for fandom to do the same.

When you love something, you protect it. It is the most natural thing in the world.
