I've had a lot of people ask for updates or just give well wishes (and I appreciate every single one of you even if I havent been able to respond--Ive been stuck on the tumblr app and mine crashes constantly lol)

Some fun disaster facts for you: they had to get a special crane to remove both the trees due to the sheer size of them, and the second tree (pictured in the top photo but not in the bottom ones bc its fricken impossible to get them both in one shot on the ground) they had to cut at the property line bc it was through both mine and my neighbors house, and the arborists got uppity about potentially further damaging my neighbors house (which I laughed at but like, I get it.)

Our insurance would not condemn or assess the house until the trees were removed. Somehow that is normal.

My house was condemned--it has some insane damage not just from the collapse, but from the second ice storm that followed. The whole place is swollen (some of the floors are crazy to walk on.) Insurance did get a structural engineer to put in supports so we were able to get a lot of things out, but at the same time there's so much more damaged than you'd ever think (given some of the upstairs rooms were untouched, etc.) just from the weather.

It's spooky to walk in, and a lot of professionals wouldn't go near it (can't blame em.)

We're finally in a rental home, and we've picked a contractor to move forward with. Whole things getting razed to the ground and rebuilt.

What's insane is that only three homes so far have been condemned in the neighborhood. My neighbors house in the above image? Yeah they said it's fine.

Which I personally think goes to show how bad insurance is more so than like--the houses themselves being sturdy.

"I'm following Kojima's lead and decorating my office with my own quotes."

Today's the day, it's finally here... the latest & greatest from Biggu Bosu's big poppa... his first game as a free man, free from the shackles of Konami... am talking about Death Stranding, a Hideo Kojima game, of course.

To celebrate the launch, Kojima Productions teamed up with... somebody... to bring a Death Stranding pop-up gallery to NYC. And I was there, on opening day.

So the very first thing you see when passing the large Ludens, seen above, is a display of all of Kojima's badges from various gaming conferences, which gave me a hearty laugh for whatever reason...

My wife: “Honey, do you want to take a picture of a bottle of Dom Pérignon that’s signed by the cast?”

Me: “Yes.”

The gallery had various reproductions of production art all blown up, which was neat all & all, but what actually got me excited was the original Yoji Shinkawa illustrations...

Throughout the gallery were quotes from Kojima, which gave both my wife and @AmphibiouEsq ideas...

I’m very glad the curator decided to include this photograph of the Kojima Productions Christmas tree...

I was also very appreciative of this huge ass photo of brownies...

A portion of the gallery space had TVs showing the games making of; each had a toy or model, to help recreate someone's workstation at Kojima Productions...

One of my favorite parts of the space was the motion capture area, in particular, the various behind the scenes photographs...

My wife and I need a high res version of this photo for our apartment...

Actually, the part I dug the most was the only & only section that didn't allow for picture taking, which was Kojima's personal collection (I'm assuming) of photos. Thankfully Ashley found the one that I legit stared at for 10 minutes, to memorize EVERY detail...

Nothing speaks more of Kojima’s love for movies than this very Breakfast Club-esque take on the cast of Death Stranding…

Nice to see wax Norman Reedus in NYC once again; first saw him at New York Comic Con a few weeks back...

A look at the game’s collector’s edition; thankfully the only thing of interest to me, that being the pocket sized Ludens, was available at the pop-up’s gift show (and for just $15!)...

The last stop was the gift shop, which all the Kojima Production goods that one might expect, including Ludens in a variety of sizes...

I totally would have gotten the super deluxe statue if I didn’t already have the waifu version on pre-order (plus it’s like a thousand dollars)...

Additional notes:

Overall, I really dug the idea of a dedicated gallery exhibition centered on one specific game… primarily from a noted game maker who is essentially a legend, one that’s starting over. It felt like the final paragraph of the first chapter in the second volume of one’s life, if that makes any sense.

That being said, the execution was a bit rough around the edges. And given my experience running game-focused exhibitions, not just ones associated with game-centric events (like Penny Arcade Expo & New York Comic Con) but simply in NYC in general, along with the logistics involved in collaborating with a Japanese partner (which I’m well aware of, via secondhand knowledge from trusted colleagues & firsthand observations), I’m fairly confident in pointing the finger at the venue.

Pop-ups are all the rage in NYC, and venues want in on the easy money, yet also want to put in the minimal amount of effort. The staff… to be clear, not the event group that organized the exhibition, but the folks who are part of the building… were idiots. Time for examples, two to be precise:

First, remember that part of the gallery in which photography was strictly forbidden? Well, there was this one girl who was openly taking pics. I was confused as to why the guy whose job it was to keep an eye on that shit wasn’t paying attention, so in the end, I had to say something. And for those calling me a snitch, remember, I used to run these type of things, so time for a question: if you ran a small business, and was at someone’s store, and then witnessed shoplifting... you’d probably tell the owner, especially if it was someone you respected & admired, no?

Anyhow, it took way too much effort to get the guard’s attention (I tried my best to avoid a scene), but eventually he went into action. And the girl’s attempt to get out of trouble by being flirtatious totally worked, lol.

Time for example number two: so I asked another employee where the bathroom was, for both myself and my wife. This one guy pointed us towards a random stairwell, which seemingly led towards the basement and not the bathroom. BTW, there was no signage to indicate that a bathroom down there (for visitors). When I expressed confusion, his attitude screamed “just go downstairs, dumbass”, albeit without uttering those exact words. And when I hesitated… since people on the way up and the stairwell was cramped… he became even more annoyed.

Oh, so here’s a pretty important detail: my wife has mobility issues, something that’s impossible to miss, since she uses a cane. So it sucked that she had to walk down several flights down to access the bathroom, but way worse is how there was actually an elevator basically right next door, which the guard failed to acknowledge, even though my wife... with her cane... was standing right in front of him. Oh, and the reason why we didn’t notice the elevator door at the top floor ourselves is cuz all these pop-ups have super poor visibility. Ya know, “mood lighting”.

One last thing: as noted, the final part of the gallery was the gift shop, and it was legit awesome being able to get Kojima Production apparel without any import or shipping fees. Though I can’t help but notice how stressed everyone on that end was, and this was the end of day one, in which the crowd was rather light; when it comes to these kinds of events, in which there’s trouble behind the scenes, it’s often those working on the retail end who have the face the brunt of it.

So that’s my report, sorry for the rant at the end, but hey… if you’ve run similar events in the past, and are proud of the level of polish across the board, as well as married to a person who is handicapped, in a city in which everyone is actively hostile towards said loved one, you’d probably have opinions as well!

Beyond Belieb-f: Fact or Fiction

Throughout Justin Bieber’s career, spanning ten years, he has gotten himself into many controversies and was the victim of many rumors and lies which a lot of people still believe, due to the Justin Bieber hate bandwagon. In this post, I’m going to separate truth from fantasy and open the minds of the people who believe things that Justin Bieber never did.

I hope this thread will help people with how they view Justin and hopefully be able to generally separate what is true from what is false when it comes to everyday life too.

1. “Justin Bieber said rape happens for a reason”.

FALSE: This one was a misquote by Rolling Stone Magazine, in Justin’s interview with them in January 2011, when asked about politics. Bieber’s original quote is “Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.”. This interview was when Justin was still 16 and back then, he barely had any real knowledge of politics or serious matters such as listed above.

2. “Justin Bieber wrote in the guest book at the Anne Frank house that he hoped she would have been a Belieber”.

TRUE: While this event took place and Justin did write “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.”, the media and his haters over exaggerated his comment. The Anne Frank museum staff did defend Justin by saying “His comments were quite innocent, he was here for more than hour and interested in Anne Frank's life, and that for us is the most important thing.”. Unfortunately, Justin’s comments in the guest book can still be twisted or taken the wrong way by small-minded people who want a reason to hate him.

3. “ When asked to try being a vegan, he gagged and spat out a vegan steak that had been specially ordered for him“.

FALSE: This one only has two sources and was most likely invented by a writer to victimize vegans and slander Justin.

4. “He makes fans pay tons of money, even though he can afford all the tickets be 50 bucks instead of 100+ for mezzanine seats”.

For the Believe tour, ticket prices were:

Lower Level Seating $36.00 - $86.00 $47.25 - $101.45 w/ Ticketmaster fees

Upper Level Seating $36.00 - $76.00

Also, Justin isn’t in charge of how much his tickets cost, it’s management who’s in charge.

5. “He went to a children’s hospital in England and was talking to the nurse who was working there when Justin Bieber visited the hospital. He made them clear an area for him so he didn’t have to wait around near the sick children, he then spent about 5 minutes with them while the cameras were on and left without so much as a thank you”.

FALSE: This tale NEVER took place. There is no photos or evidence of him going to that hospital in England and he never attacked any photographers (at said hospital). Usually, Justin will spend quite a lot of time with sick kids

6. “He attacked a photographer at said hospital”.

FALSE: The only paparazzi scuffle that happened in England was the one video where a paparazzi pushed Justin’s bodyguard and Justin confronted the paparazzi, however, Justin was quickly restrained and went back into the van.

6. “He peed in a restaurant kitchen”.

TRUE: But, he actually urinated in a mop bucket, also, he was drunk at the time and many celebrities have urinated in places they shouldn’t, such as Hayley from Paramore (sink).

7. “Someone's coworker did security for him once. He faked a really bad asthma attack and made them call the paramedics and then laughed his ass off when they came through the door. His people talked the paramedics into not saying anything bc you can go to jail for that apparently”.

FALSE: This one was invented by a writer. If anything is partially related to this claim, then it’s an incident in November 2011, where Justin was rumored to have an asthma attack during an interview and was taken to hospital for it.

8. “He also called for a car to take him to the mall and didn't like the color so he sent it back. And then he went to the mall and stayed 5 minutes before saying it was the shittiest mall he'd ever been in“.

FALSE: Pure fiction! There are no reports of him ever doing this. This claim stinks of the “Justin Bieber is a brat” mentality.

9. “He's banned from walt disney world for punching out Goofy“.

FALSE: It’s a total fabrication. There have been zero reports of this ever taking place, also Justin has been to Disney World many times since this claim came out.

10. “Not only does he me make his fans pay tons of money for a concert, but on a school night, he didn't even show up until half way through the scheduled time“.

FALSE: It’s true that he was late, however, it was only by 35 minutes and not half of the concert duration.

11. “He's quoted as screaming 'Fuck Bill Clinton!' to cameras and attacked a paparazzo, who is suing. his mother is quoted as saying she's 'hoping he'll soon mature'.“

TRUE and FALSE: While Justin did scream “Fuck Bill Clinton” and spayed a cleaner on the picture (probably the cleanest Clinton’s ever been), many people disliked Clinton and him screaming “Fuck Bill Clinton” isn’t too different from how many people react to the current President of the United States (as of this post), Donald Trump (who, I, in no way support and dislike as much as the next guy). He never attacked a paparazzi during this incident.

12. “He spat in an old man's face“.

FALSE: Not an old man, but a Club DJ, but, this is alleged.

13. “When he went to Vermont, he was kicked out of every single business he went in. IHOP, Walmart, Hannafords, everywhere. He went to the movie theater and threw a temper tantrum when told he couldn't bring his subway sandwich into the theater, as it was against the rules. He then made a HUGE mess of the theater and had to be carried out by his bodyguard kicking and screaming about how they were all worthless monkeys”.

FALSE: This one NEVER happened. There is no proof or reports of this ever happening and the only thing that shows up when “Justin Bieber banned from Walmart” is searched online, is a meme picture. There was talk of Justin possibly facing banning from the U.S due to alleged involvement in a brawl outside a Hampton’s nightclub, but, as of 2019, Justin is still in the U.S.

14. “He randomly showed up to Disney unannounced and demanded that the entire Yachtsman Steakhouse be cleared- reservations cancelled and all- so that he could eat there. The staff had to call every single one of the guests to tell them that their reservations they had been planning for months were cancelled and wasn't allowed to give them an explanation. Disney also decided that it wasn't fair to their guests and gave them free dinner at another restaurant, which obviously lost them a lot of money and business for that night. So after personally shutting down the restaurant, Beiber comes down in nothing but a bath robe. Like I'm so sorry Biebs was it just too hard to put on pants and act like a respectable human being?“.

FALSE: Not a scrap of evidence to this claim exists.

15. “I don't hate him because he has a 'girly' voice or because he's gay. he can be gay if he wants (even though he's not)“.

FALSE: Not a real argument.

16. “I hate him because he's not a good person and he's basically the leader of a teenage girl army (with a couple of older women, teenage boys and older men, but mainly consisted of teenage girls). He can make them do whatever he wants“.

FALSE: This makes little to no sense. Justin Bieber is a musician, not a political leader. Not ONCE has he ever forced his fans to do something he wants. Also, there are many people who have done MUCH worse than Justin has, yet have gotten away with it, managed to slip under the radar and still have huge amounts of support.

17. “He made some of his more 'devoted' fans cut their hair off because some internet trolls 'leaked' that he had cancer, and asked his fans to shave their heads to show their support. A lot of them did“.

FALSE: This was a 4Chan prank and Justin is not responsible for it.

18. “More internet trolls leaked that he had been smoking weed which made a lot of his fans CUT THEMSELVES (which is a serious problem) to stop him from smoking weed under the hashtag '#cutforbieber?' or '#cuttingforbieber?' Those weren't his decision, but he didn't make an attempt to stop them, he didn't deny the rumors, he just let them carry on cutting and turning it into a joke, thinking it was funny that people did these things because of him”.

FALSE: Another 4Chan prank! Once again, Justin is not responsible for this. Also, the best thing he did was stay silent about it, because if he had responded, more of these pranks would have happened and would have gotten to Justin one day.

17. “Justin Bieber spat on fans”.

FALSE: It’s an urban legend, that never happened! The Internet and TMZ went bananas over a picture of Justin spitting off of a balcony into a bush and with Justin often stating how he loves his fans, a claim about him spitting on them would make headlines and it did. The picture of the fans crying is from 2011, which was superimposed into a picture of Justin spitting off of a balcony.

18. “Justin Bieber was a huge brat on TV shows“.

FALSE: These are claims. In 2011, Marg Helenberger claims Justin punched a cake and locked a producer in a closet, but, unfortunately, nothing about this has come up since. In 2010, David Koch of Sunrise (Australian morning news show) also accused Justin for swearing at a floor manager for touching him (to direct him to where he had to go), but if this did happen, then Justin isn’t wrong for calling out a grown man touching him (what 16-year old would want a grown man touching them?).

19. “Justin Bieber  said that he doesn’t believe in abortions“.

TRUE: This took place in 2011, during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. In Justin’s defense, this was 2011 and back then, a lot of people were still pro-life and Justin had grown up in a Christian household. Since times have changed and we are more progressed, many people’s views have changed.

20. “Justin Bieber has made racist jokes and said the N-word multiple times”.

TRUE: There are thousands of reports of these events happening. While his racist jokes and comments were wrong (and still are), he was 15/16 and uneducated at the time, apologized and has since acknowledged his mistakes and educated himself on how horrible racism is, and now shows support to the Black Lives Matter movement.

21. “Justin Bieber punched a fan in the face, made that fan BLEED“.

FALSE: This was not a fan, but a stalker. Justin did punch him, but, only as a means of self defense. How else are you going to react if someone is invading your personal space? Also, Justin most likely felt threatened by the guy putting his hand through the window.

22. “Justin Bieber has been done for drunk driving“.

FALSE: The drunk driving charges against him were over exaggerated and he was below the legal limit.

23. “Justin Bieber eggs his neighbors“.

TRUE: He egged his neighbors ONCE, but, that was due to possible harassment prior to the incident. The thing is, the victims seem to still be whining about the incident (”GIVE ME MONEY! I’M A VICTIM!”), long after it took place and Justin had served his punishment for the incident.

24. “Justin Bieber made jokes about Prince’s death with petty Instagram comments“.

FALSE: Justin simply commented “Well not the last greatest living performer”, responding to a Instagram post that said Prince was the “last greatest living performer”, unfortunately, people took it the wrong way, twisted Justin’s words and accused him of being egotistical. However, Justin was most likely saying that other artists such as Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé, Madonna and Barry Manilow were still alive and not every legend was gone.

25. “Justin Bieber throws tantrums on stage with him just ending up leaving the concert“.

TRUE: However, not as bad as you may think. A lot of these incidents were due to disrespectful fans not listening to him when he told them not to scream, clap off beat or throw water on stage. These can all distract him from playing, singing and can even put his life in danger (if he slips on water he doesn’t know is on stage).

26. “Justin Bieber threatens his neighbors“.

FALSE: There is no solid proof to support these claims. It’s a well known fact to demonize someone when someone else is doing it.

27. “Justin Bieber abandoned his pets”.

FALSE: He never “abandoned” any pets. If you’re talking about the monkey, he simply didn’t have the correct papers nor was he given them, also at the time, he was busy touring. The hamster was given to a fan.

28. “Justin has cheating scandals, he was horrible to Selena Gomez”.

FALSE: These claims are as old as the hills. At first, Justin and Selena’s “relationship” was PR, also prior to the November 2012 accusation of Justin “cheating on Selena”. Selena had been on the beach with Justin’s ex-friend Alfredo Flores, in various pictures where the both of them seemed very in love, this took place in July 2012. Also, there is video proof of Justin being physically assaulted by Selena in 2011.

29. “Justin Bieber hates Asians“.

FALSE: This is a total fabrication. Since when did he ever hate Asians, where’s the proof. He’s been to Japan multiple times and has been very welcome in Asian countries. There is one incident where Justin has mistakenly offended South Korean and Chinese fans by visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, which he thought was a place of prayer. He apologized for this incident.

30. “Justin Bieber groped a underage fan breast at a meet and greet“.

FALSE: The fan was like two years younger than him and didn’t seem to mind. As of 2019, she has often spoken about it and still has no problem with it.

31. "Talks down to alternative/rock bands such as Linkin Park and The Beatles and said screaming isn’t music”.

FALSE: More like fans of alternative rock bands have been talking down to Justin, sending him death threats and sexualising him.

32: “Justin Bieber disrespected the Argentinian flag”.

TRUE: This took place, however, it isn’t as bad as you think. A fan threw it up on stage and Justin thought it was simply a shirt, he didn’t know it was the Argentinian flag.

33. “Justin Bieber is rude to fans”.

FALSE: He’s only “rude” to disrespectful fans who stalk him and get in his personal space, K-Pop fans would know them as “sasaengs”. He’s only called disrespectful fans out, that’s all.

34. “Justin Bieber is very violent to photographers/paparazzi”

FALSE: Not a chance! He’s lashed out at photographers and paparazzi in the past, but, it’s only because they’ve provoked him. Of course he could have acted a bit better, but other celebs have done much worse than Justin.

35. “Justin Bieber ignored a disabled fan”.

FALSE: The video is staged and was a smear campaign to get Justin hated (and it worked). The person who played “Justin” was YouTuber, known as Brad Souza, the disabled “fan” was a hired actor.

36. “Justin Bieber bullied Shawn Mendes”.

FALSE: Justin and Shawn are longtime friends and they were simply joking around. If Shawn truly had a problem with Justin’s lighthearted jokes, Shawn would have said something.

37. “Justin Bieber hates Anime”.

FALSE: The tweet was fake.

In conclusion, only seven and a half of these claims are true, the rest are all fabricated stories made up by people looking for sympathy (fake hate crimes) or created just to slander Justin and get him hated and unfortunately, it worked.

I Care What You Think

Yesterday I had a really helpful session with my therapist. We discussed the growing anxiety I was starting to feel with my part-time job. I explained that my new duties were challenging, and I disliked them, but I did not feel that that was the greatest source of my anxiety. I explained that it was the things that should have been routine to me—checking books in and out, dealing with patrons directly, and making dozens of transactions—that were causing me the greatest fear response. Yes, we are understaffed, I am helping with training, and we are busier due to summer programs. I have, however, been working at this job for over 4 years, and there have been times when lines have been longer, and things have been much more difficult. In addition to crowds of patrons we also had multiple stacks and carts of books to scrape stickers off of and clean. Of course, it was stressful, but it was also so exciting and fun when compared to the slower seasons.

My therapist asked me what I felt when the line was beginning to form, and I was the only one who could help. I told her that I felt afraid that someone would get impatient, or just that they “wouldn’t have a good customer service experience.” I explained that I try to always be considerate to customers (although I try to say, “Thank you for your patience” more often than “I’m so sorry for the wait” because the internet has taught me right) and I try to multitask better. I am better now with taking time to acknowledge patrons who are waiting as I am servicing the current patron. Even though I am doing all these things—and I have been working this job for over 4 years— my hands now sometimes shake whenever I get a “breather” in between patrons (rare af) as all the emotions that have been pushed down to deal with the “rush” come flooding in.

My therapist advised me to stop internalizing the needs of other people. If I am doing my best, I have no control over how impatient—or not—someone is. I need to be concerned with doing my job efficiently, but not take it personally if someone is upset. She told me, “You cannot be all things to all people.” We also talked about how guilty I feel when I have to call in to work because I am sick, and she said, “You are already in some kind of emotional state if you think you should go to work sick.”

As luck would have it, I had to call in today; I was in so much pain from the gastrointestinal stuff (and other issues) that I couldn’t even get up to get something to eat for hours. I knew that even if I forced myself to get up, I wouldn’t be able to eat, and not being able to eat would mean not being able to take my medicine—lest It cause me even more stomach discomfort—and that would mean going to work on an empty stomach and no medicine, which would be a recipe for disaster. Yet, I had already expressed a hesitancy to call in, even though I was talking about doing so as early as the end of my shift last night. I was telling a co-worker that I had not felt fully well for days, but I really did not want to let my team down as this was the last official SRC program of the season, aside from the finale on Saturday. Also, I had already volunteered to work afternoon shifts while we were filling in the remaining positions at the circulation desk, and I did not want to miss any.

I am trying to put the advice of my therapist in to practice. It’s a little after 8pm, the magical hour of the day when my mind usually decides to flagellate me over my life choices; this usually occurs especially or always when I have “done nothing” for the entire day. Several times, earlier today, my mind drifted to what might be happening at work; to whether the circulation desk got swarmed with patrons and it was just my manager and a trainee. Ultimately, though, my concern should be for myself and my recovery. I am not being lazy. I did not choose to become ill. My manager did not complain or bargain with me to come in; she just said, as she always does, “Okay, thanks for letting me know.” If there are any consequences or words to be spoken, I can deal with them tomorrow when I go in. It isn’t even the threat of consequences that concerns me, as much as the sense that I’ve “let someone down.” It is that feeling of misplaced responsibility that my therapist is trying to get me to address.

This is a paraphrase, but at the end of our session she told me, “I think that once you get a good sense of who you are—outside of what others think about you—that that would be a very great thing for you.” We have been working together for more than 2 years, but I think she may have successfully identified one of the biggest things that is holding me back.

Now it is time for a detour. I have been toying seriously with the idea of coming out to my therapist—even though I had decided not to a long time ago—and I did not then, but she had no idea how much her words encouraged me. Even if I don’t tell her soon, her words emboldened me to start working towards living as my authentic self in a more visible way. This is not about just “coming out” as bisexual, but also just living a less apologetic and more sincere life in general. It is about embracing my choices and owning them. It is about being more assertive when I want to say “no” and more enthusiastic about saying “yes” when it is something that I really want.

INFJs are notoriously thin-skinned, but I do not have to live my life in the confines of my MBTI indicator, astrological sign, or any other label of personality. I know that MBTI and astrology are not scientifically proven, but I think they appeal to the pattern-seeking part of our brain, and they are not inherently harmful. I do think that some aspects of our personality are fixed, but like Dr. Grande says, we can change our behavior. Words do hurt me, but I do not have to let them negatively affect my life or my actions. I can choose to live for myself instead of forever being in bondage to how people will react to me.

It is impossible for you, an individual, to make everyone in your life happy. That isn’t your burden to bear. People in our lives are here for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Keith Battista, of the podcast Adventures in Roommating, quoted something to the effect of, “People can still love you and not love everything you do” or “People can be disappointed in you and still love you” and I think that is such an important thing to remember. Of course, some people really will leave. It is really easy to say, “Just accept it” but that shit really hurts. Rejection hurts. At least now you know where you really stand with those people. Proverbs 27:5 says, “Open rebuke is better than secret love”, and I don’t know if I’m taking that out of context, but we are going to go with it.

Let us return to the main path in our conversation. I do not know why anxiety has decided to rear its ugly head in this way in my life. It has always been lurking under the surface, just barely managed, and now I think it is rising like a gator out of the murky depths to snap me apart (#notallgators, they’re actually kinda cute). This could be due to age. In the meantime, I am trying to convince my psychiatrist to give me a diagnosis, so that if any alternative/herbal treatments become available (ahem CBD oil) the lack of a diagnosis does not hinder me. She pretty much looked at me sideways, but maybe she will get with my therapist like I suggested, and they can discuss the matter more. She said, “Anxiety is a part of your bipolar diagnosis” and I’m thinking, “Umm, not like this” but I’m sure that is not what I said. I also wasn’t forthcoming about how little hydroxyzine I have really been taking and paid a copay for 90 more pills when I have maybe 82/90 left of my original bottle. This is the lack of assertiveness that I really need to work on.

I know, ultimately, that my needs have started to supersede those that the clinic can provide. It being so close to my home makes getting there less anxiety-inducing and that is one bonus; my old clinic was superior, but it involved a trip on the highway, and between that and wait times it just wasn’t practical for me to continue going there because work and school took up too much of my time. My current therapist is good, but I only get to see her every 2-3 weeks—as opposed to the once a week I got with my old therapist— and that is not often enough for me. The situation with the psych doctors is roughly the same with both the old clinic and the new one, with even the most dedicated of psychiatric doctors really having no time/patience for adjusting diagnoses or really listening to you or doing anything besides prescribing medication. Of course, medicine is huge, but it isn’t everything. My co-worker has advised me multiple times to go to a different state where they have no record of me and talk to someone who will actually listen to me with fresh ears and tell me exactly what my diagnosis is. I would love to do that, but I am not sure that I have the resources.

Again, I know that in a time of upheaval, making anything other than small changes can be detrimental to my recovery. I have already put school on hold. I was on the waiting list for a long time to get into therapy with my current therapist, and there is no guarantee that if I change clinics they would have someone available right away. Since my income dipped for a while earlier in the year, I am currently receiving services from my clinic without paying a monthly fee. That is huge because that fee was a major pain in my ass. I am still adjusting to the demands of my new position at work.

I am severely burnt out and not feeling too well physically, so it can be easy to look for the weakest link to try to “break the chain” of misery. My therapist told me, though, “Be careful that you don’t remove the things in your life that are supporting you.” She identified my job, school, and my relationship as three things that I normally “go after” when I feel in doubt about the direction my life is going in. It may be time to move on from my current job, the clinic, and even my apartment, but sometimes that means adjusting and reframing those things, rather than abandoning them. I definitely do not want to abandon my boyfriend, but I am also sick of being apart and I want to do something about it.  That involves both making the time and finding a way to generate more revenue.

I know I’ve “given up” as much as I safely can. I’m so tired of everything but giving up on this job—without having a plan—would be tantamount to giving up on my apartment and my independence in one single regretful decision. Calling in sick—and I’ve been sick a lot—doesn’t mean that I have to feel forced to give up entirely. Anniversary Surprises

“Wait, what is all of this?” Kurt asked, walking into his thirtieth-floor apartment. “Oh my God, how did you… What?”

It seems like an appropriate match. Makabe: Those sons of bitches Yano and Ishii… Yeah I guess I've been connected to them for a while. -- Originally Yano and Ishii were with you in GBH. Then in April of 2009, everybody except Honma left to join CHAOS. It was a huge betrayal. Makabe: That was a humiliating moment. But I'm still proud that we as a unit were able to pick NJPW up onto their feet after being nearly out of it. -- GBH were soundly anti establishment, but you also helped revitalise NJPW. Makabe: Point is, I know just how good those two are. But the last two times we faced each other in February we're both three way matches. Now it's just us and them. Me and Honma are gonna finish this! -- You and Honma have won two consecutive World Tag Leagues together. Do you feel you've really progressed as a team? Makabe: I'm in perfect harmony with him. Even when he's in the corner, I feel safe and trust him completely. Thinking how far we’ve come makes me a little emotional. -- I gather when Honma first joined GBH, you taught him how to toughen up. Makabe: He was too light in the ring. -- Too light to be an effective heel? Makabe: Right. I'd ask him ‘why are you doing babyface moves? You shouldn't be playing to the crowd.’ We were eating together once and I asked him ‘Hey, do you think a guy who wins every time is the real deal?’ And he says ‘well, the real deal wants to win every time.’ -- How did you respond to that? Makabe: I think a lot of people never thought Honma would get his break but I always thought he'd make it. Maybe not as a TV star! But one time I got hurt and couldn't make a booking so he filled in for me. In the TV world chances like that come and go in an instant. -- You really helped make Honma a star. Makabe: He often thanks me, but it's on him. He made the most of his chances. -- So to end things here, what message do you have to your fans as you approach 20 years? Makabe: I always say the exact same thing. When I'm out there, I show you what real pro wrestling is all about. If you see my matches, you'll know that the strongest of plants can grow from the weeds. You can't get to the top without suffering for it. I apparently gave up too soon yesterday morning. After watching Joseph Maguire testify for a while before a Congressional Committee, I gave up. Pure frustration. The questioning sucked. The answers non-responsive.

I quit too soon! One and one half hours after the hearing began.

From everything I saw on TV and read later in the day, things got better. Much better. The Committee did a good job, Maguire did a good job. Republicans sat with their tails between their legs and left quietly afterward.

Trump got nailed, but good! The truth came out! No games.

It would appear Trump is on his way to impeachment.

There are visitors who get excited when they see an iguana. Favorably excited. Think they’re cute. Green miniature dinosaurs.

Iguanas are bad. All should be eradicated. Shoot them, hit them over the head, but kill them. They are of no appreciable value to man or property in the Keys.

I have been in Key West for 30 years. The iguanas started showing up about 5 years after I arrived. First saw them on the golf course. A lot of big ones. Bothering no one. Sitting on tree branches or scooting on the ground.

The group first seen has propagated. It is crisis time. The State of Florida agrees. Finally.

Iguanas are everywhere. Always in huge numbers. Generally big ones and little ones together.

The do not bother humans. You can walk very near one and they will not move.

The problem is they destroy. Flowers and bushes. Eat ’em up! Defecate in pools. Happened to me 2 times. Had to remove and replace the water. They grind their way into seawalls and sidewalks.

I recall when pythons first invaded the Keys. Few in number. Now in the millions. Florida did not know what to do. Scientists and the State agree they have now reached a point where they can only be contained, not eradicated.

We may have reached that point with iguanas.

They are protected by animal cruelty laws. Kill and don’t kill. May only use guns where permitted. Generally approved method of killing is to shoot them in the head or bash their heads on a rock.

Otherwise, hands off! The law provides they may not be made to suffer during the eradication process.

The problem is now referred to as a “war.” However cannot go around “shooting willy nilly.” Key West is not the “wild west.”

VERDICT

Quality of Curation: I say this every month, but for a romance-based box, which you think might limit the selection, there is nonetheless a huge variety on offer. There’s contemporary romance and paranormal romance, teenage characters and adults, characters who are out or still determining their orientation, those who are out for casual hook-ups or for something more meaningful…

I do however have one nitpicky criticism – I wish there had been a bit more representation of the rest of the LGBT+ acronym, as 90% of the stories focused on gay men. However, the ebooks were generously donated by the authors, so BLMB had no say in the category of stories provided and as that is the most popular subgenre out there, I’m not surprised gay romance ended up dominating the box.

Worth It? This box above all others before it was DEFINITELY value for money! The three books came to $56.80 AUD, and all the e-books were a total of $72.59 AUD, so there was a value of over $100 for everything included!
