About Pasoori, Rid, that's t-series, they can make the worst remake of any iconic song with no regret.🤡 Even though I love the og songs of T-series, they don't do justice with the remakes, and why a remake when nobody even asked for it lol)
Coke Studio India and Pakistan have been releasing bops in many languages for decades, and most of them have ended up being translated into a Bollywood Hindi remake song. And it's not like they are making these songs known by remaking them when they literally ARE popular.
I am a Rajasthani, and I cringed real hard when I first heard the Hindi remake of Chaudhary song (an old Coke studio song in Marwari, which was also featured in Balika Vadhu if yk). Even though I speak Hindi, that song was literally a part of my Childhood! and hearing that song being translated into Hindi was painful, the og vibes didn't match at all!
I understand that Bollywood produces many movies in a single year that contain way too many songs, so they can't help but make few remakes, but still, why? Even the the general public doesn't like these remakes, they still make them! I literally have a love-hate relationship with T-Series in this whole music production matter. :')
Sorry for my long ramble, I never really shared my thoughts on this topic with anyone before, and I genuinely apologize if I bored you and you had to read all of this. :')
ahhh, don't apologise for the ramble, i understand what you're saying. you're right, bollywood does produce a shit ton of movies a year, so they're bound to hit a wall once in a while when it comes to new music. choosing old songs and remaking them seems like an easy option and i don't blame them. but yeah, i think sometimes it doesn't quite work. i don't necessarily think the pasoori remake is bad, i just think it wasn't needed bc the original is already so amazing.. and i think if it's hard to come up with music, it's also sometimes okay to not include any at all — i know a lot of movies that had 0-2 songs in them, but they were still such a success (looking at you, pathaan), but yeah. i understand that music is an integral part of bollywood, i just hope that even if they continue making remakes, they do so carefully or let the same artists sing those. some just weren't my thing :(

B-2 : Why Indians Need to Watch Frank Capra’s Movies?
Tumblr media
If you're a fan of Old Hollywood, you can realize the significance of Frank Capra (1897-1991) in the American Film Industry. An Italian by origin, he spent 89 years in the United States. His life story was that of a "rags to riches" one - an ideal example of achieving the American Dream. He also served in the United States Army during the Second World War - and made several war documentaries. One can learn about it in the Netflix series Five Came Back - with Guillermo del Toro narrating his story. Capra has influenced many directors of the post-World War II era (from Indian directors like Satyajit Ray & Raj Kapoor to foreign directors like Akira Kurosawa, Steven Spielberg, & Francois Truffaut). But what is it that makes Capra's work evergreen?
Before I start, I wish to talk about my rendezvous with Capra. I first heard about him when he attended the 1972 Oscars to co-present the Best Director Award with Natalie Wood (to William Friedkin for The French Connection). I watched six of Capra's movies between December 2021 and July 2022. They are:
It Happened One Night (1934)
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
You Can't Take It with You (1938)
Mr. Smith s Goes to Washington (1939)
Meet John Doe (1941)
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
Tumblr media
(1) Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in It Happened One Night
Tumblr media
(2) Raj Kapoor and Nargis in Chori Chori
I loved every single picture. While watching It Happened One Night, I found it similar to the 1956 Raj Kapoor-Nargis starrer Chori Chori (not to mention their final collaboration). The screwball comedy got remade in several Indian languages - even the 1991 movie Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (with Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt). The key themes the movie exhibits are the class and socio-economic differences between the two lead characters - along with love, freedom, poverty, unemployment, etcetera.
It would also be interesting to know that It Happened One Night was the first of the three movies to win the "Big Five" awards at the Oscars: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. The other two movies are One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and Silence of The Lambs (1991).
Below are the heroes of Capra:
Tumblr media
(1) Gary Cooper in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
Tumblr media
(2) James Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Mr. Deeds and Mr. Smith grabbed my attention because of the themes discussed in the two (like corruption, misuse of power, beliefs in democracy, patriotism, etcetera). The most significant element is the depiction of the ideal 'American Hero' - which one can see in Gary Cooper and James Stewart, respectively. However, the hero is something that every nation wishes to have - including ours. Mr. Deeds Goes to Town got remade in Bengali (Raja-Saja of 1960 with Uttam Kumar) and Tamil (Nallathambi of 1949 with S. Krishnan). Whereas Mr. Smith Goes to Washington did not have an Indian adaptation.
However, Mr. Smith reminded me of how the English tried to suppress such movements during the freedom struggle. Scenes like 'young boys printing newspapers and citizens launching movements to prove a man's innocence & bureaucrats and politicians trying to stop it' remind us of such events. One must remember that it got released less than three years before Gandhiji launched the Quit India movement of 1942. Even after independence, now and then, we come across news headlines featuring similar happenings.
Tumblr media
(3) Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck in Meet John Doe
Tumblr media
(4) Amitabh Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in Main Azaad Hoon
Meet John Doe is about a "grassroots" political campaign created unwittingly by a newspaper columnist with the involvement of a hired homeless man and pursued by the paper's wealthy owner. The renowned Indian adaptation of the film is the Amitabh Bachchan-Shabana Azmi starrer Main Azaad Hoon (1989). It's one of the rarest movies where Bachchan has not fought the corrupt violently.
Although John Doe survives in the end, Azaad kills himself to stay true to the words of the reporter's fictional character. Azaad could have avoided it - but he did not do it so that the people's anger and urge to fight the corrupt system never cool down. Azaad also leaves a message for his supporters and appeals that Azaad should evolve in them. Capra claimed that he never found a satisfying ending for Meet John Doe. However, Main Azaad Hoon provides a finale that suits the main character's commonality and mythic stature.
Tumblr media
(5) Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart, Jean Arthur, and Edward Arnold in You Can’t Take It with You
And finally, You Can't Take It with You (for which he won his third Directing and second Best Picture Oscar) has a similar theme to It Happened One Night. It's a love story of a successful banker's son and his stenographer. In several Bollywood movies, we see romances between a rich boy and a poor girl (and vice versa) - but they are not like the romances between Capra's characters.
Tumblr media
(6) Donna Reed, Stewart, and Karolyn Grimes in It’s A Wonderful Life
This article would be incomplete without talking about It's a Wonderful Life (his first movie after leaving the Army) - which gives an important lesson about the significance and beauty of human life. It teaches us that our work can impact the people we come across - and those with friends are never lonely.
But that's not all!
We live in his world. It is the "Capra Universe" - where demons of society have surrounded us - and all we need is a "hero" to fight against them. Indeed, there are various Indian movies with similar themes (and distinct from Capra's plots). However, one can the difference only after watching them. Capra has taught us that you can be a rebel or an "angry young man" - without having a gun or a weapon to fight the system and beating up the bad guys. All you must do is to believe in yourself and the moral principles of society. He gave complex social and economic problems a human face - showing unemployment and vast concentrations of economic power.
Elaborating on the themes expressed in Capra's most famous works, two of the most reoccurring subjects are selflessness and a familial sense of community. That's why there is always strong support for the lead characters.
The only difference between Capra's movies and the Indian versions is the inclusion of songs - a standard Indian Cinema formula.
With themes depicted in them and the problems we see around us, Indians must watch some of Capra's movies. There have been directors who have remade them in the Indian context (and there will be in the future, no doubt). However, they won't have the exact authenticity as those of Capra's movies.

★ Pathaan and The  SUPERSTARS Of Indian Cinema!
February 8, 2023
Pathaan has smashed records at the box office and it should put into no doubt who are the superstars of INDIA are. The film confirms the box office clout of Shahrukh Khan which had not gone anywhere despite the last decade not being as kind as the decade before. There was a box office change towards the end of 2000-2010 decade where digital prints allowed far wider releases on day one and as this process got bigger and bigger it meant the genre which was the forte of Shahrukh Khan was never going to get record numbers. But through the 2010-2020 decade the numbers coming with films which were not action films were still huge.
Pathaan had a guest role for Salman Khan and the public response has to seen to be believed and this should be enough for the naysayers who have appreaed due to his last few films not doing as well as expected. Stardom does not dissapear with a few films failing at the box office, just like it does not come overnight and takes many films to establish.
The Hindi film industry is probably the most secular place there is in India but the fact that the biggest stars of India over the last two decades are Muslim has not sat well in some quarters of the country and the media over the last few years. In fact the third biggest also with Aamir Khan though this is arguable with Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar in the fold as well. The cinema going audience does not care one bit about religion and within the industry nobody notices the religion baring when things get bought up from the outside. There are these non secular voices also within the industry but the way the industry has functioned for decades these people soon become outcasts and work will just dry up.
The last few years has seen this Pan India thing pop up so you have regional stars names being put up as the biggest superstars of the country laughable as it may seem. There are no doubt some great directors in the Southern industries so it is possible their films can do well in the Hindi belts but that hardly means the actors in these films become stars and superstardom is far away except for the regional one which they probably have already..
India has seen seven stars achieve megastardom and two of them are Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. The others being Dilip Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. There is not one name in sight from regional film industries and yet today you see names like Prabhas, Yash, Allu Arjun and others put up with there with two superstars who are not only the biggest superstars of the day but among the biggest ever.
This is not to say that someone from the regional industry cannot become a huge superstar tomorrow because if the public takes to you then anything can happen but to reach the level of above names will take some doing not only for the regional stars but even for Hindi filmstars.
The simple reason why the the big superstars have come from the Hindi film industry is because the language has a wider reach. If other languages had a reach as wide as Hindi then maybe it would be a different story. Yes movies can be dubbed but that is the film reaching out and not the actor.
Basically the negativity towards the Hindi film industry has led to many claims as to which is the biggest film industry and who are the biggest stars and when the national media is like this you get the regional one badmouthing Hindi cinema as and pushing their own which is natural. But at the end of the day nothing much has changed despite the claims as the HINDI film industry easily remains the biggest film industry in India as content may go wrong but that does not change the reach.
As for the stars, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan remain the biggest stars in India and that does not look like changing for sometime yet even though the starpower may not be as big as it was other points in their careers

Documentary Reviews: The Beatles and India / George Michael Freedom Uncut
This week I got to review not one but two music documentaries:
The Beatles and India
There is a long history of documentary films about The Beatles’ connections to specific regions (countries, states, cities). I am a lifelong Beatle fanatic and I’ve seen documentaries about their history with Liverpool, UK; Hamburg, Germany; London, England; NYC, NY, USA; and even lesser ones like Benton, IL. The gist of all of these documentaries is showcasing how the region and the culture played a role in The Beatles’ history and the influence it had on their music. In 2013, I, myself, made a short documentary about The Beatles’ musical connections to Boston, highlighting the concerts they played in the city, connections to Boston musicians and radio outlets. Now, The Beatles history with India is getting the documentary treatment with the documentary The Beatles and India, which screened film festivals last year and is being released on blu-ray and DVD from MVD Entertainment Group this week.

In 2018 journalist Ajoy Bose’s book Across the Universe: The Beatles in India was released. After the book’s release, Bose and co-director Peter Compton began making a documentary based on the book. In The Beatles Anthology  (easily the most comprehensive Beatles doc ever made), they covered The Beatles visit to Rishikesh, India in 1968. I am a firm believer that if you are going to make a doc about The Beatles, you need to be shedding light on something new or else you’re just re-iterating what The Beatles Anthology and Compleat Beatles already covered. This is why in the last few years there are been some Beatle docs that try to look at parts of their history that haven’t been covered as much, i.e. Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years about their live performance, Peter Jackson’s The Beatles’ Get Back delving deeper into the Get Back / Let It Be recording, and Good Ol’ Freda about their secretary Freda Kelly. The Beatles and India is not trying to tell the entire history of the Fab Four, but just their history with India.
The 1965 Beatles movie Help! featured several Indian musicians and that got the attention of George Harrison. It lead to his friendship with Ravi Shankar. In the years that followed The Beatles began incorporating Indian instruments and musical styles into their own music, i.e. “Norwegian Wood”, “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “Within You Without You”. In 1966, they made a stop in New Dehli, India. In 1967, at the peak of The Beatles fame, they attended Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi’s transcendental meditation seminar in Wales and became engaged with it. In 1968, the Fab Four and their wives and entourage visited Rishikesh to the Maharishi’s ashram. There was eventually a falling out with the Mahareshi (not a spoiler as this was public info from that era). But just the experience of that visit inspired several songs as well.
Tumblr media
The Beatles, Mahareshi Maharesh Yogi and friends at Mahareshi’s ashram in 1968
As a documentary, this is really good at putting the region into the context of Beatles history. There are a lot of historians, authors, journalists and experts who are interviewed. However, the one thing that is missing from doc is Beatles music. It is not surprising that a documentary does not have the budget for Beatles songs, but it felt like something was missing. We’re seeing all of this archival footage and photos and hearing how this experience inspired “Dear Prudence” and this other experience inspired “Sexy Sadie” and we’re not hearing any of those songs. Also - the fact that they didn’t have any of The Beatles interviewed other than archival footage also felt like something was missing. They did get Pattie Boyd (George Harrison’s wife at the time), but everyone else was more historians and journalists, many of whom had terrific insight, but I was hoping for Paul or Ringo or someone else from their camp to comment further. Overall - this was a very well done doc, I just wanted more. As for the blu-ray itself, there’s an extended interview with Ajoy Bose, an Ashram map and production photos. Not a lot in the way of extras, but it is the doc itself that is front and center.

George Michael Freedom Uncut
Just before his death at age 53 in 2016, singer George Michael had actually been working on a documentary about himself that was set to premiere in 2017. After his death, the project was put on hold. Co-director David Austin has completed the documentary George Michael Freedom Uncut and it is getting a one-night only theatrical release on June 22.

As part of the U.K. pop duo Wham!, Michael became a superstar in the 1980s. Wham!’s 1984 album Make It Big that really put them on the map. It was one of the first cassette tapes I ever got (after Thriller, Purple Rain and Stay Hungry). They had a cool sing-along vibe to their music that is fun when you’re a kid like I was at the time. They performed at Live Aid and were the first Western pop act to perform in China. At the peak of their fame, Wham! broke up in 1986 and Michael began a solo career. His 1987 album Faith was one of the all-time great albums of the 1980s. A highly underrated album was his 1990 follow-up Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. He was so adamant about being known for his music and not his looks that he didn’t appear in any of the music videos. Even though I was into metal at the time, I kind of dug his solo music. He had such a great voice.
Tumblr media
Michael in his prime in the 80s
This doc shows the progression from Wham! to the mature crooner he was towards the end of this life. An interesting device this doc does is showing various interviewees listening to some of Michael’s songs on vinyl and their reaction. While it was engaging to hear the likes of Elton John, Liam Gallagher, Mary J. Blige and James Corden unpacking the music and lyrics of some of his famous songs, it did go on a little longer than it should have. But what this doc got very right was Michael telling his story in his own words. He addresses being in the closet, his battle with his label Sony and his various scandals. The most powerful part was when he performed “Somebody to Love” at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert at a time when Michael’s partner was suffering of AIDS, as Michael performed at an AIDS benefit paying tribute to Mercury, who had recently died of AIDS. The fact is no one can sing like Mercury, but boy did Michael rise to the challenge and then some! Easily his greatest performance!  The doc is not the most comprehensive as it definitely glossed over his career from 2000-2016. But it is Michael posthumously able to tell his story, which is worth hearing and seeing!

The website essentially provides pirated content, which infringes on the rights of content creators and distributors.
Impact on the Entertainment Industry
Piracy has a significant negative impact on the entertainment industry. It results in substantial revenue losses for filmmakers, actors, and production houses. This loss of revenue can affect the quality and quantity of future productions, as the funds that would otherwise be reinvested in new projects are diminished. Additionally, piracy undermines the efforts of those who work hard to produce original content, as it devalues their work.
Legal Actions and Risks
Authorities in many countries have been actively trying to combat online piracy, including shutting down websites like Mkvcinemas. Users should be aware that accessing pirated content is illegal and can result in legal consequences. Governments and law enforcement agencies often monitor such activities, and individuals found downloading or streaming pirated content may face fines or other legal actions.
Alternatives to Mkvcinemas

Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video provides a diverse range of content, including popular movies, TV shows, and exclusive Amazon Originals. It also offers additional benefits to Amazon Prime members, such as free shipping on Amazon orders.
Disney+ Hotstar
Disney+ Hotstar is a popular platform in India, offering a mix of Disney content, Bollywood movies, TV shows, live sports, and more. It provides both free and premium subscription options.
Hulu
Hulu is another notable streaming service that offers a wide variety of TV shows, movies, and original content. It is particularly popular in the United States.
Legal Streaming Websites
Apart from the major streaming services, there are numerous other legal platforms that offer free or subscription-based content. Websites like YouTube, Voot, SonyLIV, and Zee5 provide access to a range of movies and TV shows, often supported by advertisements.
Conclusion
Mkvcinemas has gained popularity for its extensive library of movies and TV shows, user-friendly interface, and accessibility. However, it is essential to recognize the legal and ethical issues associated with using such platforms. Piracy not only harms the entertainment industry but also poses legal risks for users. By opting for legal alternatives, viewers can enjoy their favorite content while supporting the creators and the industry as a whole.

Pippa Movie Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Unique - Viewer Beware!
Tumblr media
Pippa is an excellent movie that tells the story of the 1971 Indo-Pak war in a unique way. It gives us a different view of the battlefield and the lives of the people during that time. The characters are portrayed with great care, like a skilled chef creating a special dish, paying attention to every detail. Pippa Trailer Release on Ishaan Khatter Birthday: A Special Celebration Pippa Screening: Mira Rajput Joins Brother-in-law Ishaan Khatter in Style Proud Military Enthusiast: As someone who loves military movies, Pippa really connected with me. The way it showed the first-generation Amphibian battle tanks and how they were adapted for swamps and rivers was very detailed and accurate. What I liked most was that it didn't have the usual Bollywood hype, but instead, it found a good balance with the actors' efforts, the script, how it was shot, the research, and the direction. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzGKmsxSLHx/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== The Good and the Not-So-Good: Viewer's Take Pros: Learning about things not many know, like India's first amphibious army tanks. Great acting by Priyanshu Painyuli, Innamulhaq, Soham Majumdar, and Chandrachoor Rai. Post-credit scenes that teach us about historical events, like the Garibpur action. Cons: Some actors, like Ishan Khatter and Soni Razdan, didn't fit well into their roles. The way the story was told wasn't as engaging as other war movies like 'URI.' Extra story bits and songs that might distract from the main story. Directorial Brilliance and the Mehta Family Saga: Pippa, despite its flaws, shines in several areas. The realistic battle scenes, especially those involving PT-76 Tanks, are well choreographed and shot, providing a gripping cinematic experience. Tanmay and his team's adaptation of Brigadier Balram Mehta's book, "The Burning Chaffees," is commendable. Ishaan Khatter's portrayal of Capt Mehta captures the essence of the 1971 War, and the entire cast deserves kudos for their efforts. A Unique War Story: Raja Krishna Menon took a different route with Pippa, choosing to focus more on family dynamics than the typical war movie approach. By diving into the Mehta family's personal tales, the film sparks discussions on whether this creative choice does justice to the heroic story it intends to share. Technical Issues and Looks: Unfortunately, technical problems like poor visuals and incomplete action scenes hold back the film's impact. Despite maintaining a good pace, the not-so-great appearance on streaming platforms might leave viewers wanting a more visually satisfying experience. Honoring Values and Bravery: Even with its technical hiccups, Pippa stands tall as a tribute to human values, sacrifice, and India's bravery. The director's commitment to showcasing the 1971 battle against Pakistan and the birth of Bangladesh deserves applause. A R Rahman's music adds a soulful and authentic touch to the film's melody. Final Thoughts: In the end, Pippa is a movie that splits opinions. It might not please everyone, but its different way of looking at war, along with great performances, makes it a movie you should check out. Whether you connect with its unique style or find fault in its departure from typical war stories, Pippa adds something interesting to the world of movies. The way the movie ends makes you think. It might sit well with fans of typical movies, but there's a lingering sense that it didn't quite meet expectations. Maybe I expected too much from this cinematic journey. As an example Bangla movie fans are satisfied as lot of Bengali girls have lately reached the place in Hindi movement picture. Best actress- Madhubala may be the only actress who has managed to get hold in regards to a career such a short period of time and get invites from Hollywood. She is the most beautiful woman in world, dead or in. However, due to her young age illness she died at the age of 36 when her film career was at staggering heights. Billu Barber: If Aamir Khan adapted a movie Ghajini out from the south last year, Shahrukh Khan does a similar thing this fact. Billu Barber produced by Shahrukh Khan is loosely based inside the friendship between Kishen and Sudama nicely borrows from the Malayalam superhit Kuselan. Shahrukh Khan plays himself in the movie(call it an extended special appearance) while Irrfan Khan, who is the protagonist plays a good town barber. Whatever the fate of the film, much better is for sure: completely blown away by the performances of two from the best actors of Bollywood. Her is often a spell beauty. She's got managed november 23 over the hearts of trillion not only in India but internationally also. She has also ruling the heart of the most popular guy, Salman Khan. Katrina Kaif established fact for her superb actress'. She is among the actual few actresses who are near the peak of success in couple of years. Dilip have also been a good comedian as possible seen from his role in Kohinoor. But his forte was tragedy. He also won the film fare award of top actor a number of times. This can be a equivalent among the Oscar of Hollywood in India. Dilip Kumar also gave stellar performances in films like Ganga Jumana, Ram aur Sham, Gopi and Bairag-where he played a triple role. Wake Up Sid: Call it unconventional romantic pairing, but we have Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor starring in Wake Up Sid, directed by debutant Ayaan Mukherjee. It is a Karan Johar production. Always be interesting to determine how people from two different genres, Konkona and Ranbir do with this type. Shipla was inside the home and off contact and never mentioned presently there sen88wiki was a racist not. Though outraged British Indians thought so. So there wasn't a case of Shilpa backtracking. Then there's no problem if Shilpa doesn't consider that she was being subjected to racist commentary. Pleae don't force people to feel you actually like, appeared her own decision to feel during she cares for. Thumbs Up. We've all heard in the famous quote "Behind every successful man is a woman" Clearly stating that traditionally if you let of women has been seen behind a man, a follower, as someone who is equally capable as the man nevertheless does dont you have the in order to become that of a man will.

'Oppenheimer has outgrossed Barbie in at least three markets. On July 21, the Christopher Nolan biopic of the father of the atomic bomb opened opposite Greta Gerwig's comedy celebrating the iconic doll Barbie, leading to a dazzling box office event known as Barbenheimer. Barbie opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office that weekend with $162 million, leaving Oppenheimer at No. 2 with $82.4 million.
Per Variety, while most international regions reflect the domestic and global dynamic of the Barbie box office outgrossing the Oppenheimer box office, there are some regions where the reverse is the case. In Hong Kong, Oppenheimer's $6 million nearly doubles Barbie's $3.67 million, a gap that is even wider in India, where Oppenheimer has earned $16.3 million compared to Barbie's estimated $5.8 million. Oppenheimer's $4.73 million in Turkey also outgrosses Barbie's $3.19 million take.
Oppenheimer Won't Ever Outgross Barbie Entirely, And That's OK
Oppenheimer may also take the lead over Barbie in additional regions, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It is currently No. 1 in both territories, but this was the result of release delays for Barbie, so the Gerwig title still has the potential to catch up. While Oppenheimer may indeed succeed in those regions and more, it will most likely not prove able to match the titanic overall global gross of Barbie, which has now raked in over $1 billion.
Oppenheimer's current global standing is $569 million, which pales in comparison to the Barbie box office. In order to beat that movie's global gross, it would have to show unprecedented late-stage growth for an R-rated global blockbuster. However, even though it will remain No. 2 in the Barbenheimer battle, Oppenheimer is nevertheless a resounding success.
Oppenheimer's gross has broken a plethora of records, including the highest opening weekend for a non-Batman movie by Christopher Nolan. It is also now one of the Top 10 highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. The success of Barbie does not detract from the fact that Oppenheimer has had an astonishing run for a seemingly non-commercial three-hour historical biopic.'

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani's First Song Tum Kya Mile Depicts Typical Bollywood Romance
The first song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, Tum Kya Mile was released today (June 28). The song is said to be a homage to the late Yash Chopra.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani has been making buzz ever since the release of its teaser on June 20. The first song from the movie, Tum Kya Mile was released today (June 28). The music video features lead pair Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt romancing in snow-clad mountains while donning chiffon sarees on the vocals of Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal.
With Tum Kya Mile Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal strike the right chords
Tum Kya Mile music video features Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh romancing in the snow-clad mountains of Kashmir. The video opens with the words "This season, fall in love" and goes on to show quintessential montages of the lead pair romancing while lip-syncing against the picturesque locations. Though the song was much anticipated by the audiences, it does not reveal much about the plot of the movie.
Tum Kya Mile reunites the trio of Arjit Singh, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Pritam. The three previously came together to work on the title track of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as well as a song from the movie Channa Mereya. Shreya Ghoshal has also lent her vocals to the Alia Bhatt starrer song.
Tum Kya Mile was the first time Alia Bhatt was on set after giving birth
As per social media chatter, Tum Kya Mile was the first sequence of the film that Alia shot for post-giving birth. The actress gave birth to her daughter Raha on November 6 and bounced back to work soon after. Additionally, it was also the first time Ranveer Singh can be seen lip-syncing to a love song shot in the mountains.
The love ballad from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani is reportedly a homage to the late Yash Chopra. The song has already garnered attention from social media after a teaser of the same was released on June 27. Much like Brahmastra's Kesariya, Tum Kya Mile has also already become an earworm even before the release of the full song.

7.) In a later paragraph, some delegates successfully pushed for a reference that addressed the problems with carbon dioxide removal.

8.) Delegates from the poorest countries had mostly left by this point, leaving mainly rich countries and the richest economies in the global south to hash out the final wording of a document that will shape, to some degree, how habitable the planet remains for all humans.

9.) Saudi Arabia pushed back against a suggestion to replace "low-emissions technologies" with "zero-emissions technologies", and in the end both were accepted.

10.) The us pushed back on a suggestion from poorer countries' to specify their ability to cut pollution depends on what richer countries do with money, tech and the remaining carbon budget.
Tumblr media
10.) China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran got rid of "taxes, subsidies and prices on consumption" as examples of tools to cut consumption-based emissions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
11.) The us unsuccessfully tried to delete the word "equitable" when discussing finance, arguing the word typically refers to each country getting the same share (in the context of climate diplomacy, at least, it does not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
12.) Switzerland and the U.S. tried to delete a sentence on climate finance gaps, arguing that there is no common definition of the words "climate finance", no IPCC definition of developing countries, and that the terms "gaps" and "opportunities" are unclear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13.) The us blocked China's suggestion that richer countries are not transferring enough technology to poorer ones because of political and legal barriers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
14.) The broader context: the approval session for this synthesis report should have been easier than previous ones because most of the text was taken or adapted from previously-approved summaries, but the report also means more to governments - and is more likely to influence how hot the planet gets - because it ties together all the IPCC installments from the last few years into a handy summary of summaries. So the stakes were higher, but the ability to lobby was weaker, and more compromises were made because so few people from the countries hit hardest by climate change could stay till the end.
Tumblr media
15.) We are left with a completely useless plan!  My question: Why did IPCC open up to such 'negotiations'? It could have simply released the summary, as before!  Every disaster movie starts with government officials ignoring warnings from scientists. That’s not coincidence.  Pretty much the IPCC report is absolutely useless based on this thread.  The media & politicians show no interest in what the original undoctored versions of this report actually look like.  Does the report include the names of the negotiators for each country? NO. I would love to know who was carrying this water for the US.! I mean, objecting to the word “equitable”?!?!?!  The unscheduled extension of the meeting meant that, by the time it finally ended, no-one from Africa or S. America was present, few from any less-developed countries at all were *in the room*...
16.) It is absolutely frightening to see that at this late stage most governments are still more interested in misleading and make-believing than doing anything real. We are going to 5 degrees. Push your politicians for massive CARBON PRICING or vote them out!
17.) Apparently aerosols were deliberately left out, because "INDIA called for deleting it"?! And adding the invaluable figure WG1 SPM.2 was "opposed by SAUDI ARABIA and INDIA" in a f*cking huddle?!

Why Indians Need to Watch Frank Capra’s Movies? - July 20, 2022

The Bollywood Version Of Vikram Vedha: What Warrants The Need For A Remake?
Tumblr media
The recently released Vikram Vedha is an action-packed thriller with insane performances and an even better story. But fun fact: the same movie released in 2017, with an entirely different cast set in a different language. The Hindi-language Vikram Vedha is the most recent in a typical Bollywood trend of remaking movies from the Southern film industries of India. While the movie is an exhilarating drama, it disappoints as a remake. So let’s use the Vikram Vedha Hindi remake to discuss what actually constitutes the need for a remake. In any industry, in any language. Please note, the following will have a lot of spoilers for both versions of Vikram Vedha. If you don’t want spoilers, please read our review of Bollywood’s Vikram Vedha here first. Before we start, let’s do a crash course in the Indian Film Industry, for those unaware. Contrary to popular belief, Bollywood is only the Hindi film industry of India and does not represent the whole country. India has a variety of rich cultures, and countless languages in its many regions and states, each with its own incredible film industry. Over the decades, Bollywood movies’ international accessibility, has caused the industry to mistakenly become associated with non-South Asian audiences as representative of all the film industries of India. Slowly, movies from Indian industries like Tollywood (Telugu), Kollywood (Tamil), Mollywood (Malayalam), and others have become more and more popular outside of India. For example, one of the most appreciated movies of this year, RRR is a Tollywood production, and not Bollywood. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. The original Vikram Vedha (2017) was a Tamil-language film, classified as a neo-noir action thriller. The movie featured an original story that was thrilling in so many ways. Writer /directors Gayatri & Pushkar created a unique framing device, that mixed in many plot twists and a hero/villain dynamic that could be the stuff of legend. The story starts as Vikram (Madhavan) leads a special unit of Police, responsible for the encounter killing of known criminals and writing it off in official reports as in ‘self-defence’, or while ‘attempting escape’. This was their way. The sole purpose of this unit is to hunt down a known murderer and crime boss, Vedha (Vijay Sethupathi). The first surprise twist comes when Vedha surrenders to the police, only to engage in a cat-and-mouse game with Vikram. This involves him recounting his own origin story, and posing a moral conundrum to Vikram. This is the unique framing device of Vikram Vedha. Throughout the movie, Vedha and Vikram come across one another in various ways, and each time, Vedha recounts a story of a certain part of his life. After this, Vikram is left questioning the morality of what he does, and the concept of good and evil, which he thought he understood up until then. It’s interesting, engaging, exhilarating and absolutely genius storytelling. The Hindi Vikram Vedha, by the way, is also the exact same movie. The Vikram Vedha Hindi remake does absolutely nothing new with this story. Besides recasting all the actors, and changing the original language from Tamil to Hindi, there’s no difference. Now, granted, the lead pairing of Bollywood megastars are stunning in their performances. Saif Ali Khan plays Vikram as strongly as Madhavan. While the biggest difference in the movies is Hrithik Roshan’s performance as Vedha. Roshan makes an absolute meal of his role, completely immersing himself in it. He plays Vedha more as a psychotic sociopath, versus Sethupathi’s more restrained and calmly intimidating performance. But besides that, there is absolutely no difference between the original and the Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha. Now, I have no problems with remakes. I’ve dedicated an entire Split Screen Podcast to the concept of discussing and analyzing remakes. (Shameless plug). However, a remake usually adds some sort of value to the original or discerns itself in some way that warranted the remake in the first place. Famously, Hong Kong’s Infernal Affairs was remade in Hollywood by Martin Scorsese into the Oscar-winning The Departed. In that movie, the change of setting from gang-torn Hong Kong to a mob-occupied Boston, Massachusetts set the stage for the adaptation. Following that, the backgrounds of the characters, the culture, the hierarchy of organized crime and a plethora of other changes followed suit. While it’s still the same story, the spirit of the story was adapted into an entirely different world. More recently, Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump was officially adapted into Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. The original movie saw the life and times of a man against the backdrop of the growth of America. So when making an Indian version, obvious changes to the country and its history directly affected the context of the character’s journey and the way it plays out. Whereas The Vikram Vedha Hindi remake only changes the city that the story takes place from one Indian city to another. But this does nothing to the cultural impact of the story of its events. The police force, their tactics, the rampant corruption, the culture within the force— all the same. The socio-economic situation of the characters, the criminal underworld, and how the events take place— are the same. I saw the original Tamil film with English subtitles. And it seems the Hindi version even has the exact same subtitle file. Personally, it feels pointless for Bollywood to remake a movie, 5 years after the original Tamil film, and make zero effort in adapting anything from the original. Instead, they just replace the cast and told the entire story again. Shot for shot. Line by line. At least for certain remakes, when a director gets inspired by the original, they remake it with their own flair and interpretation. Indian director Ram Gopal Varma incredibly remade Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic The Godfather into Sarkar. On top of changing the setting from an Italian family in America to an Indian crime family ruled by cultural politics, Varma changes some crucial plot points as well. The same director even took inspiration from American Beauty and Lolita, to make Nishabd. A movie that explored how the attraction of a much older man to a young woman affects the conservative Indian family dynamic. The Hindi Vikram Vedha, on the other hand, comes from the same directors as the original. So the vision and visual dynamic are exactly the same.
