ok so BIMBO READER!! x ethan landry
ethan is a bit of a natural soft dom to her. her being airy in the head she never knows what to do!! so say someone in the group (or core fucking 4) asks her a question she looks over to ethan and is like uhhhh?? and he swoops in for her. or if theyre in big crowd (like in the train station scene) hes always behind her with his hands on her hips leading the way because shes in her own little world.
CRYS BIMBO READER X ETHAN R SO CUTIE PIE
MHMMM
and she knows that if she tried just a little bit harder, if she allowed herself to think for just a second or two more, she could figure out what chad meant by his simple question. but the thing is, she doesn't have to think for herself. not when she has ethan. it's a little concerning and borderline annoying to the others that she has to rely on ethan like a translator, but like :((( if he's there for her and willing to do anything (literally anything) for her, then it would be rude to count him out and do things herself, would it not?
and he's always keeping a hand on her waist and stuff not just because she doesn't watch where she's going and she gets lost easily, but also because of those tiny little skirts she wears. especially when they're on the subway, and it's so crowded and all ethan's possessive little mind can conjure up is ways that someone could attempt to touch what's his so he's standing behind her, keeping his hands on her waist. which not only keeps her steady, but it also gives him the chance to keep her protected, the two standing flushed together.
she's none the wiser to the reasons behind his protection in a moment like this. instead, she's complimenting people's outfits. "oh, e, look! it's the pretty flower dress from that one movie," she's turning around to face him, just her head because the rest of her body fits so snug and comfortable pressed against ethan like this. ethan can't help but watch her pretty glossed lips when she says, "what movie is it from again? something with an 'n', about a season, maybe?"
and ethan simply says, "midsummer. remember?" and her lips make an 'o', her head nodding and she grins.
"yeah, i remember!" she goes to turn around, but not before ethan presses his lips to hers once, and then presses his lips to her neck twice. she giggles, leaning back into his touch even more, and ethan casts an angry glare to the guy to the left of them who's been staring a little too hard.

Wildflower 03
“You have given her the card?”
Another hit, another night at the Continental, another dinner with Winston.
The older man nodded, continuing to eat, eyes on his plate before they rose to meet John’s intrigued ones.
“You know that the card means…”
“She is under my protection and the hotel’s doors are always open for her— services included.” Winston completed.
“She’s a civilian, Winston.”
John could not get it. Winston seldom gave his personal ‘Access Card’ (As he liked to call it) to anyone– even in their world. John had it, Charon had it and he did not know of anyone else who had it until…Until two nights ago.
When he saw it among (Y/N)’s possessions, he had to look twice. It was, Winston's card, after all, and she fucking carried it around in her bag like an idiot.
“And how did you come to know about the card? I had it shipped to her discreetly.”
Well, that was the question he was dreading. But he would not let it show.
“I bumped into her during…a job.” He did not elaborate and hoped he would not need to.
“Wrong time, wrong place?”
John nodded. Fortunately, she had just caught the panicked rush. And she had dropped her bag somewhere along the way. John could only imagine what could have happened if the bag fell into the wrong hands– if the card fell into the wrong hands.
He had only gone through the contents to decide where to drop the bag safely. He totally did not go through her home address and ID.
Winston only hummed and continued to eat. His question, though, was still unanswered.
“She has nothing to do with our world, Winston. She does not need that.”
“Well she walked into our world, had a meeting with me, sat with us at the underground bar— everyone there saw it. I respected Artemis, and I wanted to keep my word.”
Yes, she walked into their world. Like a fucking lamb stumbling into a slaughterhouse. John sighed and continued to eat his dinner. He would rather eat by himself, in the confinement of his room, but he did not mind Winston. Besides, a dinner invitation from the manager of Continental held great significance.
He liked the silence and slowed thoughts when he was in his company, doing mundane things. Like a normal human being. That was the closest to an ordinary life he could ever get. The rest was unattainable luxury.
But in recent days. Even in the comfort of silence and solitude, his mind was filled with a certain name, a certain smile. A certain face. A certain voice.
It felt so uncharacteristic of him— it was puzzling.  His hold tightened on the knife and fork, the image of her confused face as she looked around people rushing flashed in his mind.
Not again. Not again!
Gulping some wine, he tried to clear his head. He was thinking like that again. He should not be thinking like that.
She is a civilian. An innocent civilian.
He chided himself.
“Something troubling you Jonathan?”
Of course, Winston would notice.
He looked up and sighed in silence. Thankfully, Winston did not poke further.
—------
(Y/N) admitted that there were a lot of things she had not prepared herself for before moving to New York— the basics were, thankfully, sorted out in her head. And yet, the pace of life, the mouse problem, more cockroaches, and the general indifference came to her as bumps and jerks. But all was good.
Everything was good until two days ago.
Nothing prepared her for a literal shootout at a subway station and losing her bag in the process. Thankfully, she was not caught in the middle of the crossfire— it was just the panicked rush just outside the crime scene.
But what she was more thankful about, was the fact that a kind officer brought her bag to her doorstep by the same evening. Her wallet was in that bag with her address. She did not wish to think what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands. Crime in the city ran rampant.
She had heard of it, not much on the news, but more as whispers floating around in her relatively quieter town. But she never paid much heed to them. She had treated them as rumours— the news did not show much, after all. The news did not show even half of it. But above all, the general public’s indifference to such crimes baffled her.
Did they not want their city safe? Were they not afraid? What era was it?
She reflected on Alex’s words. They discussed the same.
“You eventually grow immune to it.”
He had told her. Not very helpful, but that was an explanation of some sort. People in the city must have grown immune to it— they learned to live with it. But could she grow indifferent as well? She did not think so.
But there was too much at stake. She did not wish to return to her hometown, was still not talking to her father other than one-worded texts, had a job in New York that paid well–enough, had already signed the recent contract and paid two months of rent and the overall living cost of the city kissed the skies and any spontaneous decision would end up burning her pocket— not just a hole in her pocket.
So, the only option left was to get up, dust herself and keep moving. Yet, among all the chaos, she was glad to have found a friend like Alex. His humour and insight always helped. Her thoughts moved to her encounter with John Wick a few days ago. Clearly, Alex and John knew each other. But Alex never elaborated other than calling John an ‘acquaintance’ and John…well, she might as well admit that she would be reluctant to approach him under most circumstances.
There was— she could not put a pin on it. But there was something almost ominous about that man. The way he looked, the way he spoke, the way he stood, carried himself— every aspect about him seemed to stand out. Not enough to gain immediate attention, but enough to steer clear of his way.
Now, that did not make sense. She realised. Neither did her observation that there was still something inexplicably melancholic about that man. His eyes were unreadable but sharp and so eerily calm that his gaze made her gulp– true. But there was a deep sense of sadness. It was subtle, but it was so ever-present that it seemed to have become a part of him. Nothing temporary but an inseparable part of him.
Now, that’s a bit of a stretch!
She chided herself. What was she doing? Wondering about a man she had met only a couple of times, weaving assumptions and stories?
She shook her head and took the last bite of her dinner. She missed how dinners were timely back in her home. She missed her home a lot, she was not afraid to admit it. But she was too proud to go back. So, whatever it was, she needed to get along with it.
—---
What was he doing?
John was at a fix. He had the night to himself— a chance to relax but why was he not under the covers, relaxing on his bed?
Why was he standing in the darkest corner of the room, watching her sleeping form? Her apartment was decent, he noticed and she was careless enough to not even feel a presence in her room.
What if it were someone else?
Someone dangerous?
You are dangerous.
His subconscious mocked.
John blinked, trying to convince himself that it was all for Winston’s sake— he had taken her under his wing and John, being close to Winston, must play his part in protecting her. Especially when wolves were lurking around, one had followed her from the Continental, sniffing behind, wrapping a sheep’s skin over to lure her near.
Alex Norton…
He was skilled with poison and guns, and while John had never crossed paths with him at work, they had shared a few respectful nods now and then at the Continental. But now…
Now he was keeping an eye out for Norton.
John gulped, keeping his eyes fixed on her form. If he could keep his reservations aside, he understood Norton’s fascination with the girl.
They were both starved creatures from hell, crawling out now and then, and she was an angel, offering the solace he knew he did not deserve.
She offered what people like him were deprived of. It was tempting to just pull her into the depths of the dark with him, let her light it up— but how unfair, how cruel would that be?
Did he not see and endure enough cruelty? Why would he want an innocent civilian to lose their privileges just because one starving, deformed, empty soul had suddenly realised how impossibly bleak and bitter his world was?
No, John had made peace with this life. He would not call himself ‘the best’, but he knew he was good—- good enough to win special privileges at the New York Continental– to win the confidence of Winston Scott.
He never truly understood Winston, or his ways.
As far as he knew, Artemis was like any other patron at the Continental and had been a part of the underground before he officially left his…tribe, in search of freedom— some semblance of it at least. He had it now, and it was the best he could get.
He must make peace with it.
He stared at the asleep woman for a good minute before looking away. He needed to leave. He wanted to leave. He really wanted…
John sighed and leaned against the wall instead.
He would just watch, and observe. He would keep a distance. Like he should.
****
So, we are getting at creepy John, I don't want it to be too slow, but I also want it to be realistically paced. I don't know hat I'm doing, but I am doing it anyway.

The Crossroads of Destiny
Strap in folks it's finally finale time!
I'm getting a bad feeling from the 'previously on' segment.
Tumblr media
*gasp* Song's bird horse!?!?!
Toph gets some serious speed with that earth tongue walking.
Ty Lee's flattery gets less and less subtle. I get the feeling that a lot of Azula's more worrying tendencies could have been curtailed if someone had stuck her on stage as a child.
Tumblr media
Is Zuko taller?
The cuts between these scenes are getting ridiculous. Some of these scenes are maybe 15 seconds long.
Zuko knows what's up. He and Iroh have teamed up on that particular fire breathing party trick before.
"It's time I face Azula." Buddy. No.
"You're so dramatic." POT. KETTLE. BLACK.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last time Iroh and the Aang Gang teamed up, it was also against Azula. She has a way of uniting enemies.
Tumblr media
The longer I stare at this the more I giggle.
"Good inside him isn't enough. Why don't you come back when it's outside him too, ok?" Congratulations to Sokka for articulating one of the fundamental human truths. Intentions can go take a hike when all that's visible are actions.
I love that! Iroh says he brought someone along in a tone that very much implies that he asked for help from a friend! Then you go outside and see he kidnapped a dude! And then they just leave him there!
Tumblr media
I see your fake meditation. No one as rotten inside as this guy actually meditates properly.
Tumblr media
The Dai Li be like
Katara? Why are you ripping into Zuko? Why is Season one bitchy Katara back? I don't want season 1 bitchy Katara to come back.
"No offence." "None taken." Iroh loves his nephew, but Iroh knows his nephew.
The one time Iroh's advice is explicitly solicited is the one time his advice is corny crap. That sucks.
Ba Sing Se is a tel? That's neat.
Tumblr media
Hey Toph? Now would be a great time for that new metal bending trick of yours.
Tumblr media
Avatar inadvertently validating my fear of subway grates.
Tumblr media
I know this is life or death serious and all, but isn't the Sokka and Ty Lee dynamic cute?
Tumblr media
MOMO!
This episode's thesis statement boils down to "what happens when you cancel arts programs and theatre kids don't get a chance to monologue in controlled conditions."
Honest question: Is Azula actually so deluded to believe that Divine Right of Kings crap she just spouted, or is she saying what the Dai Li needs to hear to side with her? Usually I think everything out of Azula's mouth is a calculated statement for manipulating others, but the way the show framed that monologue makes me think she actually believes what she's saying.
This conversation between Katara and Zuko, aside from showing that Katara is as capable as Sokka at sticking her foot in her mouth, is actually showing Zuko's growth well. So many of the things that he waves away with an "it's ok" are things that would have made him explode back in season one. It's about time he redefined that scar of his too.
"Aang! I knew you'd come!" "Uncle! The fuck?" Zuko truly has a way with words.
Hey Iroh maybe save your heart to heart until after you've exited the prison?
Wait so this episode is named after Zuko's arc? It's Zuko's destiny this finale is dealing with? Poor Aang's not even the main character in his eponymous show's season finale? Dang.
Tumblr media
What was I saying about waiting to chat until you're outside the prison?
So every word out of Azula's mouth here is definitely a lie. She doesn't need Zuko at all. She's got a whole army and already has possession of the throne. What does she need with someone she considers to be an inferior firebender?
Father's love? That guy who burns off faces? The audacity.
"You are free to choose." Is it really freedom of choice if choosing the answer Azula doesn't want to hear ends with Zuko in a crystal cage?
Gotta say I'm intrigued by how quiet Zuko's being for this whole episode. Compare it to the volume of his confrontation with Azula at the Spa place at the beginning of the season.
This is so awful. This is so skin crawly. This is so going to end badly.
Toph can turn doors into ping pong balls. I like that. And what does she need Sokka scouting for Dai Li agents for? She can sense people for miles.
I love the line read on the "I'm not leaving without Bosco!" But does this guy really think he's in a position to make demands, after all the stuff he's ruined in the last, what, two days?
Tumblr media
This is a cool move. Full body air bitchslap.
Katara cut her hair! That's kind of like what she did to Pakku with the ice disks.
How has no one been knocked out yet? Everyone in this fight should have at least 5 concussions by now.
I don't know what to make of it, but when Zuko says "I have changed" he sounds more calm and confident than he has all season.
I love the dynamic between Sokka & Toph and Mai & Ty Lee. Everyone involved knows they're second string and no one's really that invested. So they're all kind of chill.
I don't know what's going on in this fight, but Zuko is far too talented and Katara and Aang are both going down too easily.
Tumblr media
And this right here is why this fight is only going to end badly for Aang. As soon as Azula's tired of playing, she'll call in reinforcements. Aang doesn't have those.
I hate Azula so much, which means I'm very annoyed to say that she and Zuko actually make a good fighting team. Did they practice drills together or something back in the day? They way they tag out and back in, and exchange fights, flows so well.
Jesus
Crap ok
She nerfed him in the power up sequence! That's not allowed!
Tumblr media
So help me god if the writers hook these two up after pulling this crap I will riot.
Iroh could have been helpful if he'd been there earlier. Guess it takes a while to break out of crystals. Although I do like the detail that he stops fighting as soon as Aang and Katara are out & safe.
Tumblr media
I was wondering why the magic water was randomly brought up earlier after disappearing for the entire season. I figured it had been lost in the desert with the rest of the stuff on Appa's saddle.
I'm so sorry, but the way Aang's arrow flashes once to confirm that Katara's saved him makes him look like an external USB device confirming successful connection.
I'm loving how immediate the regret from Zuko is. Proof that he has learned over the last two seasons.
"The Earth Kingdom... has fallen." AND WHOSE FAULT IS THAT? This King rubs me the wrong way. Consistently.
I'm fascinated by the fact that they managed to securely transport a bear on Appa's back.
Final Thoughts
Poor Aang has been demoted to secondary character in his own show. This finale was all Fire Nation.
Well done Azula. No matter which way you look at it, she won. If Azula was the main character, this episode would be the crowning glory series finale.
Sokka and Toph spent the whole episode running around putting out fires, only for five more to spring up in their place. I honestly don't know how they and Appa reconnected with the rest of the Gaang to fly out at the end. There's this feeling the whole episode of being consistently one too many steps behind, and I think it's most obvious in their incessant side quests.
Poor Katara went through about seventy billion emotions this episode. I take back my anger at her bitchiness. She deserved a vent session, although I don't think Zuko quite deserved to be the recipient of it. But he took it well.
Congratulations to Zuko for falling backwards into the only right choice for all the wrong reasons. This episode was only going to end with Azula victorious. She recruited an army and successfully executed a coup without breaking a sweat - that is not a level of enemy that Aang and friends has ever faced before, and not one they can realistically win against. Like with Long Feng, this is not a threat you can hit. You can't bend at ideologies and loyalties.
Zuko was going to end this episode siding with the Fire Nation as a free man, or in Fire Nation custody. This way, someone with an actual semi-functioning conscience now has access to the upper levels of the Fire Nation. This could be really interesting.
To be clear, I fully believe that Zuko chose to side with Azula because he swallowed her offer hook, line & sinker. For the guy who invented "Azula always lies" he sure does fall for her lies a lot, especially when she's saying exactly what he wants to hear. I believe Zuko believed her about getting his honour back bla bla bla, chose to follow her because of that belief, and has already realised at least some of what she said was lies by the end of the episode. Which is promising! It looks like there's potential for a Zuko mole next season!
I'm worried for Iroh. Firelords who burn their children's faces off with no shame don't strike me as the type to shy away from executing their brothers.
The Aang fakeout death at the end was not remotely believable unfortunately, mostly because kids' cartoons don't ever pull a Psycho and kill the nominal main character half way through. It probably would have freaked me out if I'd seen this episode as a kid though.
Azula hitting Aang during his power up sequence was inspired. A very well done subversion of expectations, which finally validates my frustrations with the concept of power up sequences in general. Few things bug me more than the mooks politely waiting their turn while the good guy does a quick wardrobe change.
So... is the war over? The Earth Kingdom's fallen, the Southern Water Tribe have been functionally out of the game for a while now. There's only the Northern Water Tribe left, which are only still standing because of a Hail Mary that I very much doubt Aang can pull off twice. So is next season's focus going to be defending the Northern Water Tribe from a final Fire Nation push? I think that's the only place that isn't conquered by the Fire Nation in name at least. On the bright side, this means the Gaang won't be returning to Ba Sing Se. Good riddance. I hate that place.
I've never seen a show with a finale that focuses so intensely on the conflict of someone other than the main character. I don't really know what to make of this episode. I think I liked the one before it better. To be clear, everything that happened made sense - characters were in character, events unfolded as expected (if you handwave an elite force of earthbenders preferring a 14 year old over their seasoned leader), but something about this episode is just a bit boring to me. Maybe they telegraphed it too hard in the previous episodes? I don't know. I'll have to chew on this one a bit.

As Fate Would Have It
Series: Team Fortress 2
Pairing: Sniper x Scout
Rating: G (for now)
Summary: Chance encounters can happen anywhere, at any time. However, Fate can be a cruel mistress. From the Scout's perspective.
Author's Note: It's been years since I've written anything, but this idea and theme popped into my head recently, demanding to be written into existence. Will be multiple chapters, probably. Be gentle with me.
Chapter 1: I Saw Him Standing There
I will never forget that fleeting moment, as if Fate herself was smiling upon me.  It’s really cliche when you think about it–and think about it, I have!  In fact, I have pictured the scene in my head over and over again for the past week, and it’s driving me absolutely mental.
I suppose I should elaborate.
Picture this: I’m in the subway station on a chilly evening in October.  There’s a few people walking about, so there’s a slight display of activity–a typical fussy child, a man loudly snoring on a bench, some no-name musician strumming a guitar for pocket change, a couple arguing over some mundane issue…  It all blends into a loud hum in my ears, and I’m glad to have worn headphones on my excursion to soften the blow of sound.
One hand is firmly holding a suitcase, the other stuffed in my jacket pocket, and my chin is resting against my scarf as I wait for my scheduled train to arrive.  I’m early today–Ma said it would look better if I arrived in a timely manner.  I told her it wouldn’t make the train arrive or depart any faster, but she insisted, so here I am, standing in the cold breeze with very few possessions tucked away in my luggage.
I got a job offer, you see.  Details are very scarce, but so are the jobs around here, and I can’t expect to live off Ma forever.  So, the best thing I could do was head West–some place called the Badlands, working for a man by the name of Redmond Mann.
I know; it sounds sketchy, but the job promises good pay.  I can figure out the fine print later.  Worst-case scenario, I’m stuck in an office job for a little while.  It’s nothing I can’t handle.
But, back to the important part of the story–I’m huddled against the cold, and I hear the train approaching through the tunnel, so I make a quick, mental checklist of everything.  Toothbrush, check.  Socks, check.  Underwear, ch–wait, did I forget that?  Oh, nevermind, the train’s almost here, so I shake my head and step up to the platform.  Other passengers begin to fill the space around me as our ride begins grinding to a halt.
The doors slide open, and that’s when I saw him standing aboard the train.
He was a tall man–like, really tall.  Ridiculously tall.  Granted, I can easily hover over most people, but this guy made me look average.  He had a face full of scruff, and a frown that would have made the aforementioned infant start wailing in terror.  Curiously enough, he wore yellow-tinted sunglasses and a hat I’ve only seen on television.  He stuck out like a very tall and very sore thumb, but, with my mouth agape, I probably did as well.
And, just like that, our eyes met. And, my heart skipped.  Or, did it jump into my throat?  Either way, it began pummeling the inner wall of my chest something fierce.
The other passengers began filing into the cabin, brushing past the two of us, but it was in a weird, slow-motion kind of way.  At least, it seemed that way to me.  Just like the movies–minus the chorus of angels singing from on high.  Let’s not get too weird about it.
But, what felt like a century was mere moments, and I found myself stumbling for words, as well as the ability to read the strange man’s expression.  Was it confusion?  Aggression?  Annoyance?  Or was he entirely oblivious to my gawking?  Those eyes of his–they bore into my very soul and shook me to the core.
Why did I suddenly want to forget about getting on that train?  But, what was I going to do–run up to a complete stranger and start a conversation about how I could see eternity in his eyes?  Is that what it was?  Was that what I was thinking?
He made a grunting sound and moved a hand to the back of his head, giving a slight scratch to his scalp.  And, then, he shifted to the side and moved past me.  Something about that snapped me back to reality and I grabbed the suitcase I had apparently dropped, quickly moving into the cabin just as the door slid shut.
I whip around, pressing my free hand to the window.  He was still there, still frowning, and still staring at me.  A shift indicated the train was beginning to move, and within seconds, all I could see was the blur of the subway walls.
But, for the duration of that ride, the man’s face would be all I could fixate on.
I readjust my headphones, give a slight sigh, and move to one of the empty seats.  It was going to be a very long night.  And, an even longer trip to New Mexico.  I close my eyes and lean against a very unforgivingly cold rail, but that scowling expression is practically burned into my eyelids.
Why?  Why him?  Why me?  Questions plague my brain, and suddenly, I’m daydreaming about a cozy little cabin somewhere far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  It’s just the two of us–the strange man and myself–and we’re laying it thick on the domesticated stuff.  We’re sitting at a little table with a checkered tablecloth, finishing a meal of wine and–is it spaghetti?  We’ll go with that.  Either way, our eyes meet once more, but a very peculiar thing happens.
He smiles.
It’s the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen, one that could have ended world hunger or at least brought forth world peace.  Look, it’s absolutely stunning, alright?  But, then, his mouth opens wide and he lets out a deafening howl, something akin to a train horn.  My eyes fly open and I’m back on the subway train as it signals its next stop.  I look around; people are filing in and out at a rapid pace.  But, my mind is once again going back to that one last image of the strange man’s smile, and I’m suddenly filled with the regret of not being able to see it beyond my imagination.
I sigh again, hiding my now-blushing face in my scarf.  Fate was playing a cruel joke on me today.  She blessed me with a moment and dangled it right above my reach only to yank it away with a vicious smirk.  But, it was dumb of me to think there was anything more to the shared gaze with a complete stranger in the subway on a cold day in the middle of October.  Just coincidence, two people happened to look at one another at the same exact moment…  Time standing still…  How I long to see his smile…
Goddamnit.
There was no way around it.  It was love at first sight.
It was a shame I would never see this man again.

BNHA x Spider-verse Reader 🕷️
First writing post! Finally!!
Tumblr media
You’re a first year student in Class 1A with spider-like abilities.
Quirk: Arachnid
Hero Name: Spider-Man || Spider-Woman
Your quirk grants you numerous abilities that only a spider can do. These abilities include: super human strength, agility, stamina, and even wall climbing. Your hands and feet able to stick to hard surfaces similar to Tsuyu.
You possess the ability to sense danger right before it happens. You call it your Spider-Sense.
One ability you have yet to master is camouflage. Both your skin and your costume are capable of blending in with your background.
What makes your quirk iconic is the ability to create an organic web-like substance from small thin holes in your wrists. You can shoot these webs across long distances and they are very strong, strong enough to hold onto a running subway train.
Weaknesses:
As strong as you are, your webs have a weight limit and can break if you go over that limit. However, your webs can split into multiple webs at a time. But there have been a couple time you experienced a web block. In your case, your emotions and well being can have an effect on your quirk.
Your stickiness can be less helpful in certain situations, causing everyday objects to get stuck to your hands & feet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even before you were a fist year at UA, you were already pretty well known around your little neighborhood. Thanks to your quirky antics & constant swinging through the city, you had a knack for sticking out.
However, you really made your mark when one of the Tokyo subways was speeding down the railings and unable to stop. You were coming home from the supermarket then until it passed you, and with no heroes on the scene you attached yourself to it and took off. Webbing it up as much as you could.
This heroic act was actually the reason you were recommended into UA, and people online dubbed you the Spider-Man/Woman.
You were also a talented street artist. You gotten into it with Mr. Aizawa more than once, considering he found you tagging up the trashcans around the schoolyard.
But most just think that it’s cool and actually encourage you to do it more. Except for Momo & Idia, you got the scolding of your life when you tried doing the back of the dorms. I imagine you room would be full of art supplies and sketches.
Due to your similarities in quirks, you & Tsuyu practice a lot together & have even before good friends! You sometimes have competitions to see who can leap the farthest.
The Set Up by a laughably large margin. Although as I checked stats now to answer this question, I see that Bridgerton, Actually (my Love, Actually AU) is now second and it wasn’t before, quite recently actually! It seems it got a lot of holiday readership :)
Your personal fav
This is like asking me to pick a fav child! It’s difficult but I’d have to go with the professor au (take my hand, wreck my plans, that’s my man series). It came at a time where I was feeling uninspired and sort of adrift fandom-wise. Following the completion of Bridgerton, Actually, which was a behemoth and draining to write (though I loved it!), I was in the midst of taking some downtime to just… be. To consume without worrying about creating and to just reconsider. During that time, I read plenty of other things, including fic from other fandoms. I noticed tropes and things I simply hadn’t been exposed to ever/in a while, and found myself really drawn to the idea of an age gap with Kathony. Their fics feature them being near/the same age so often, in an effort to illustrate just how well matched they are. I wanted to do a sort of character study and love story when they had a significant age gap. I wanted to explore the ways Anthony might have been different if he was older, the fears of dying young (perhaps) abated but with no Kate to spur them forward. The Anthony I created in this AU was someone who had lived a bit of a life, hadn’t settled for a marriage for the sake of it, and had grown up and developed his own tastes in between teaching lectures and devoting himself to his family. I feel as though it can be popular to show Anthony devoid of taste or personality in terms of home decor or outside pursuits pre-Kate, and that simply wasn’t an option with him here. I really enjoyed developing this man with cultivated and exacting tastes. I’m getting rambly here so I’ll stop, because I could talk about this oneshot for a while. The point being—this oneshot marked a time of sort of creative freedom for me. When I started writing it, it felt nearly insane. I just wrote and wrote with no real reader expectation because I was writing a daddy kink in a fandom that really didn’t seem to have one. I was writing and entirely possessed by the story and characters and premise itself. I wrote that and nothing else for a while. I wrote it across continents and flights and subways and in my room, alone. I would text Kara about it nonstop and I’d post excerpts and just wrote it and didn’t think about it… and then it came time to post. I genuinely didn’t know how it would be received. And I need to add that it is far from the most popular Kathony fic ever, and it’s not even my most popular Kathony fic ever, but the response was nonetheless astounding. I genuinely couldn’t have expected the way it would be received and I’m so grateful for anyone who spent time with those words and maybe found themselves inspired to push boundaries in their own fic and writing.
Your fav scene
I genuinely can’t pick one. I think I’ve written too much hahaha. I’ll state a few that come to mind now;
In the Texas!Anthony AU I loved writing Anthony meeting Kate’s extended family. I loved giving her an extended family, filled with doting grandparents, noisy cousins, and all the fun hallmarks of Indian American kid life.
The papercut scene in the Prof AU.
Nearly the entirety of the spanking oneshot follow-up to the prof au
And also the Lover inspired fic in the prof au lol
I loved the Balmoral chapter of The Set Up, especially the beginning vignette of three; Charlie/Harry, Hugo/Willie, Kate/ghosts/legacy/history. The moment she lights incense and says a prayer in this really storied, old, English castle is unbelievably significant, I think, in ways that will come to play in the fic now.
So much of the roommates fic is a real love letter to NYC. I did a reread recently and was almost surprised by it myself? I think I’ve had enough time away to be surprised by it and I was. I know those places, I feel those places. I hope the sense of self comes across as significantly for the reader as it does to me.
Writing the aftermath of the shooting scene in The West Wing AU and Kate winning the election as well were really poignant. I cried writing them and I cry rereading them. They’re almost a brilliantly rebellious ode to hope in the face of the perceived hopelessness of US politics. Regardless of whether or not a president like Kate Sharma plausible, I center my politics and general life philosophies around hope. That fic felt like hope and belief in a better world.
A fic or scene that challenged you
Plenty! The Balmoral chapter challenged me a lot until I saw Angels in America and something clicked. I actually can’t think of more right now in a really specific way but I will say anytime I felt challenged I either ignored it or wrote through it. Writing through it was always the answer and right way to tackle it.
A line of writing you’re proud of
There’s definitely a lot I’m a proud of but I am currently traveling and CBA to trawl through over 500k words to find the line I’m proud of. There’s a LOT of prose I’m really proud of though. The recent chapter of Babel where I describe Simon’s party is some of my best work, I think. Sweet Like Honey (stepfather au) has some prose I’m exceptionally proud of. As does the Obsession AU. Some descriptions of Texas in the Texas!Anthony AU are gorgeous. If you can think of anything that stood out to you, let me know.
A comment that touched you
I genuinely treasure every single comment I’ve received and I’m currently working through responding to many (if you get a months late response,,, I’m sorry). I will take this time to impress upon anyone who might be reading that leaving comments can be so encouraging and I do love hearing from readers. Fic really does feel like I’m writing directly for you guys. And so it’s great to get feedback or excited squealing because it makes it less lonely and helps me feel like I’m a part of it with you guys. I love when friends comment, I love when people who I only know through excited screeching on ao3 comment, I really love it all.
Recently, a longtime reader left a comment on my recent update of The Set Up just to thank me for writing this year and it was so moving and so lovely I teared up. It was unbelievably kind and thoughtful. That really snuck in at the end of the year for one that just took the cake for me.
Something that inspired your writing
Everything. Angels in America. Echoing Jo by saying Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. A lot of Haladriel and Darklina works and writers. Bruce Springsteen. Lysistrata. Babel by R.F. Kuang. Little Rabbit by Alyssa Songsiridej. Babylon the film. Singing in the Rain. The West Wing lol. Dachshunds (English cream) and Greyhounds. The British royals. Kafka. Religious trauma. Guts by Olivia Rodrigo (specifically bad idea, right?). Wet Dream and Chaise Lounge by Wet Leg. The people who broke my heart and the people who helped me stitch it back up. My fellow writers and friends, always.
Your proudest accomplishment
Getting over a bad depressive episode and writing slump and purposefully refocusing my attentions to: myself, why I felt compelled to write, and the people who did love me and read my writing and made that clear, as opposed to the people who didn’t.
Do you have any writing goals for next year?
To finish The Set Up. To finish some Perfect Park drabbles and revisit the west wing au for some good election year distraction. And, maybe, to take a little break as I work on original things. I am not leaving, don’t worry. I have set some professional and personal goals for myself that require more of my emotional and intellectual time/space/energy and I need to refocus some efforts there. But I’m not done and I will be back. I’m tentatively planning something quite exciting fic-wise. If it comes to fruition, I’ll tell you all in time.
Tagging @grantairesbottle @amalinwrites who is never on tumblr but I’ll annoy her to do it, @bad-surprise @inkbugfic @ladykettlechips and Rama whose tumblr @ I always forget to do this lol
Artificial Phoenix movie changes
*cracks knuckles* Okay I said I would do this for at least one curious reader, so here we go. I'll eventually drop it under a cut because it is gonna get long haha, if you guys want me to expand on any of these details just let me know !
The opening to the movie is more or less the same, though Leonardo's mistake is less from sheer arrogance and more in eagerness to use his mystic powers. Training with Draxum has proved fruitful, and Leo's just a bit too excited with how good he's getting with his abilities lately.
When they end up with Casey Jr. in their lair, they don't really believe he's from the future until they end up finding the memory locket on his person. Casey tells them he got it from Master Michelangelo, and Mikey and Draxum know it has to be the same locket though the image inside it is different.
There is also a funny add on to this happening in the background where Sho, upon seeing Casey, congratulates Splinter on his grandson. Splinter wants to know where he got that idea, and Atsuko mentions the pair of them do share a lot of features. If this was being animated Splinter would look at her, next to Casey, with a similar expression on his face as the kid and say "I don't see it"
When Casey mentioned the Kraang, both Draxum and Karai recognize the name. April also realizes that's the same things as the creature she found among the empyrean.
The attempt to get the key back also goes just about the same, though Leonardo's desperation to recover it is more out of fear of something else too powerful for them to handle getting into the city and taking something else away from them. But of course, in his attempts to stop that from happening, Raph gets kidnapped.
Donnie's decision to even make all those escape pods also had to do with him wanting to give them an out in case things got too dangerous (and it still only worked so well).
Everyone is desperate to get Raph back, so the boys all go to do this while Draxum, Karai, April and Cassandra all try to find a way to destroy the key. This time it's not just Leo that causes the run through the subway to go to hell. (Leo is constantly asking his grandmother if Raph is still alive).
Casey Jr. has to give all of them a lecture, and is shocked they're even acting like this when Donnie is the one who harshly reminds the kid they aren't their future selves, but they still understand his point and try to collect their feelings so they can save Raph with a more level head.
Also for the record, Casey has met Cassandra during this film, but he has chosen not to reveal how he knows her or why her image is the one coming from his locket (along with another figure who's far too blurry to make out). Cassandra is determined to find out the answer when this ordeal is over.
Raph still gets possessed by the kraang.
Cassandra and Karai are both part of the ground squad, trying to get Casey Jr. to the key so they can close the portal.
The events to seal the kraang are more or less the same, and while Draxum will deny breaking down in front of April, Karai and Cassandra when Leo is trapped on the other side of the portal, April may mention it to Leo later anyway.
Speaking of breakdowns no one is having a good time for the record, but Atsuko tells Mikey that Leo is still alive, and he's not going to give up.
Meanwhile in the prison dimension, Leo is about to give up, but then an incoming hit never connects, because his father's spirit appeared (I have been tempted to write this scene up at the very least).
Get the shit kicked out of you by a ghost Kraang leader.
Well, not that hard, just enough to keep him busy while Leo makes a run for it and eventually reaches Mikey's portal.
Draxum does not stop pestering the boys for weeks while they recover, and when Leo starts calling him Dad on purpose he pretends he's been doing it all this time.
Cassandra eventually gets the truth from Casey, but Mikey's still curious about why Casey's locket plays the same song that his does (Casey isn't sure why)
Uuuuh I think that's about it ! Let me know if you have further questions
Scream 6 thoughts
I saw the movie last night and I have a lot of thoughts and I just wanted to get them out. There will be spoilers below the cut - read at your own risk
I really liked the opening and enjoyed the twist of unmasking the ghostface, only for that ghostface to be killed by the main ghostfaces of the film
Sam’s arc in the movie is a highlight and I liked her a lot more in this compared to Scream 5
Sam’s therapy session is hilarious - when she said “i stabbed him 22 times and slit his throat” the therapist’s reaction was hilarious
I found it unintentionally hilarious when Sam was looking at Billy’s robe in the glass case with her hand to the glass like she was ready to be possessed by his spirit of something 🙃
Gale dodging Sam’s punch only to be hit by Tara is a highlight
Some people might think that Gale still writing about the Woodsboro murders that happened is a regression in character but honestly it feels true to Gale imo
Like that they mentioned Sidney - honestly don’t mind her not being in these films because it means she got her happy ending which she deserves
Meta commentary was weak and they didn’t have much to say (“we’re in a franchise now” - mindy pls this is the sixth installment 😭)
Very glad to say Gale and Kirby survived - I thought for sure Gale was a goner and mentally prepared myself for it to happen
Liked that the kills are a bit more intense/violent compared to other films in the franchise
Certain scenes feel like they serve no purpose other than to mislead the audience and make little logical sense to me (e.g. Ethan helping Mindy off the subway - why not just let her die or finish her off? nobody on the subway even noticed her. It is just in there to throw suspicion off of him. Det. Bailey calling the FBI to ask about Kirby only exists to make his assertion that she snapped more believable to the viewer)
Seeing two ghostfaces kill together and do a simultaneous knife wipe was so cool
I had gotten the feeling from language used in interviews that there were three killers pretty early on before the film so wasn’t too shocked by that reveal
Detective Bailey and Quinn are the most obvious killers in the franchise in my opinion - faked death is always a big red flag in this franchise
I didn’t guess Ethan because honestly I forgot about him dsjflkajdlk
The super secret cameo that had been hyped up being Richie is super disappointing for me
The scene where Kirby and Mindy are geeking out over horror movies is cute (but do people REALLY like both Candyman movies equally... I for one don’t)
Gale scrolling the Stab reddit sent me for some reason
Gale’s first ghostface call... it’s been a long time coming and ghostface taunting her about dewey nearly killed me
Also is it just me or is it dumb how Gale shoots like 5 shots at the door?
I find it kinda amusing that this movie marketed this ghostface as ‘something different’ yet so many of his victims miraculously survive
In a way I’m happy that all the returning characters survived as I like them all, but it does make the stakes feel a lot lower (esp Chad, he was stabbed so many times smh)
This movie feels like the requel version of scream 2 but scream 2 is so much better
The killer family angle is kinda weak in my opinion and this was probably one of my least favourite killer reveals
You can really tell they’re Richie’s family cos they’re so lame
Chad and Tara are kinda cute
Danny had literally no role besides just standing around lmao
Love the nods to previous films with the shrines and the way that the killer’s masks were being left at the crimescenes
Sam killing in Billy’s ghostface robe was great
Every Time You Close Your Eyes - Prologue
It's me, hi. I'm the problem, it's me. Another WIP, that will no doubt stay a WIP for a while... Given it has been 3 years since I first started writing it...! Anyway:
AU. All she wanted was to fit in. He knew it and now he uses it against her. Seth Rollins x OC x Roman Reigns. Also features Jon Moxley.
Would love to know your thoughts!
Prologue
She could feel eyes on her, bated breath whilst her own caught in her throat. A hush had started to descend across the restaurant, glasses lowered, silverware gently clinking into silence. She could feel her cheeks flushing, her heart beating hard and fast as she watched him reach into his jacket pocket. Her tongue felt thick and heavy as she watched him pluck open the box and offer up a diamond that made her eyes bulge.
He coughed and for a moment, she almost believed that he was nervous. Those surrounding them would most definitely believe it. She could already see the scene that would ultimately unfold in a few moments time: complete strangers lining up to congratulate them, completely oblivious to the fixed smile that would adorn her face, a complete contrast to the winning, cocky one that would grace his.
“Luisa,” he started, reaching out to grasp her hand. “Will… Will you do me the honour of being my wife?”
From the next table, she heard a woman let out a soft coo.
She wanted to scream.
**
Two years earlier
Luisa’s gaze slowly travelled around the large meeting room. To her right, the office day was already in full swing, and her new co-workers were already immersed in phone calls and emails. She’d overheard snippets of conversation as she was led from the reception area to where she now sat – words and phrases had drifted over her that no doubt would start to make sense as the next few days and weeks unfolded. It had been an onslaught on her senses, yet despite the spike in her nerves, she also felt a stab of excitement.
She remembered that she’d felt that same excitement when she emerged from the subway station barely twenty minutes ago. Although she’d entered the building several times over the last few months, she still felt dizzy every time she looked up at its towering height. The novelty had yet to wear off and she wasn’t sure it ever would, especially with the view currently to her left. The city rose before her, the endless myriad of avenues and streets only identifiable by the landmarks that she’d spent most her life only seeing from below or from afar. Now they were practically neighbours, all peering down on the ant-like cabs and people below.
A blast of noise from the office made Luisa’s eyes jump from the view to the doorway.
“Take a seat,” she heard the receptionist say, a well-manicured hand holding the door open. “The head of internships will be along shortly.”
As the latest addition took a seat around the glass table in the centre of the room, Luisa took the opportunity to assess her fellow interns. There were five in total, all plucked from a larger pool of interview candidates and an even greater number of initial application forms. She knew how lucky she was to be here, even if it was despite all odds. It had been made clear to her early on that she wasn’t their typical candidate. She hadn’t relied on a parent’s own network of big business colleagues nor was she in possession of a family name or a member of this society or that. No, she was just Luisa, from the suburbs, from a single-parent family, who got a scholarship at an Ivy League and went on to apply and be accepted onto one of the top internship programmes in the state all on the merit of her own hard-work. Luisa’s back straightened in defiance as she looked around the room and wondered what connections and surnames surrounded her.
She’d already clocked the designer bag that belonged to the only other girl in the room and now as she took in the other three, she noticed the subtle pin on a tie denoting a prestigious fraternity along with the flash of a watch that just screamed one of a kind. But as her eyes flickered to the guy in the corner of the room, she felt her brow furrow slightly.
Whilst the others, Luisa included, sat straight, pen and paper neatly laid out before them and all waiting in anticipation for what was to come, the fifth member of the group could only be described as bored. He was slumped in his chair, notepad askew as he flipped his pen over and over in his hand. Whilst his clothing was as smart as the others, his posture had caused his jacket to crumple on one side and he kept tugging at his tie, loosening it slightly with every touch. As he scraped a hand over his head, Luisa noticed the small knot of hair at the nape of his neck.
His own gaze flickered from the view of the city and for a split second their eyes met. Luisa felt her cheeks flush as she looked away and out of the corner of her eye she saw him smirk. But she soon forgot about it as the door swung open again and a tall, rather foreboding woman entered the room and introduced herself as Carolyn, Deputy Human Resources Manager.
The induction lasted an hour during which each intern was assigned to a department. Luisa carefully noted down her own department, Public Relations, along with her direct report. Slightly distracted she only half-registered the way Carolyn paused for a second before reading out the final name.
“Seth?”
Luisa’s eyes flickered to the far corner and watched as Seth half-raised his head in acknowledgement as he twirled his pen casually between his fingers.
“Legal.”
Another half-nod.
As Luisa turned her attention back to the front of the room, she noticed that the others in the room were watching Seth with curiosity. One of them, earlier identified as Peter glanced across at the other girl, Jessica and raised an eyebrow. Jessica responded with a brief shrug of the shoulders and Luisa couldn’t help but look back at Seth to note his own reaction. But as she half-expected, his gaze was still stoically on the notepaper.
**
The first week passed in a blur, despite how mundane her daily tasks seemed to be. Luisa’s expectations of being an intern weren’t exactly high, but they certainly hit an all-time low within an hour. She found herself stuck on the end of a bank of desks and essentially assigned as a PA to one of the executives. She’d spent her days answering emails that seemed to just automatically forward to her and fielding telephone calls first on her boss’ behalf and then for every single executive in the department.
Her predicament was made even worse when she bumped into Jessica in the elevator on the third morning. She felt her cheeks ache as she nodded and smiled as Jessica gleefully informed her that she’d made a substantial acquisition in her first two days – a record first apparently. As they parted ways at the subway station, Jessica invited her along to drinks on Friday.
“Just a few, y’know, to celebrate.”
Luisa had agreed, crossing her fingers in her coat pocket. The last place she wanted to be was with the rest of the intern group, listening to them brag about their first-week achievements. All she wanted to do when Friday rolled around was head home, order takeout and crash face-first into her bed and not surface for a good twelve hours.
She figured that Friday would be the same as any other day of the week and given that she hadn’t been able to escape the office until well after seven or even eight o’clock, she doubted anyone would miss her at drinks. As it turned out, the department started to emptier a lot earlier than usual and for the first time, Luisa found herself clearing her inbox just after six. Glancing around the office, she groaned inwardly as she saw Jessica darting around the desks towards her.
“Luisa! C’mon!”
She didn’t even get the chance to refuse as Jessica grabbed her coat and bag for her and turned towards the elevator, leaving Luisa no choice but to chase after her.
“Jessica, I’ve got a train–“
“It’s just the one,” Jessica grinned with a roll of her eyes. “Work hard, play harder right?”
“Right. Just the one,” Luisa echoed. “So, who else is going to be there?”
Jessica shrugged. “Just us interns. Peter. Brad. Seth.”
Luisa raised an eyebrow at the last name. She hadn’t seen Seth since Monday and had presumed that his attitude had failed to get him past day one. Jessica, who had seemed to show great interest in him during induction hadn’t mentioned him until now. She felt embarrassed for being so presumptuous, especially considering that she had fought the odds to be here and overcome other people’s supposed presumptions about her.
As they rode the elevator down, Luisa watched as Jessica touched up her hair and makeup. Luisa knew that she had a tube of lipstick somewhere at the bottom of her bag, but upon seeing the branded gold tube that Jessica was using, she felt ashamed to pull out her own drugstore version. She wondered if she could escape to the bathroom before they left the building.
“Here.” Jessica was nudging her, holding out a hand. Luisa looked down and saw the shiny tube, the logo gleaming up at her.
“I’m okay, thanks.”
Jessica rolled her eyes. “Take it. Use it. Keep it.” Reaching out she grabbed Luisa’s hand and pressed the lipstick into it.
“Thanks...” Luisa murmured. She hesitated for a second and then pulled the tube apart. She stared at the colour for a second and then glanced up at Jessica who gave her an encouraging nod. Unsure of this sudden newfound friendship that involved gifting expensive lipsticks, Luisa leaned towards the mirrored wall of the elevator and slowly applied the bright red to her lips.
The elevator door pinged softly and Luisa just had enough time to run her hands through her hair before she felt herself being pulled along by Jessica. As they headed down the street, she saw the sign for the bar that she’d heard her boss mention earlier and a fresh wave of dread washed over her. She was about to protest but to her surprise, they headed straight past. Luisa was surprised – she’d Googled the bar and it seemed the type of place that Jessica would be right at home in. She scolded herself – once again she’d judged a book by its cover and been completely wrong.
“They chose this place,” Jessica told her as they took a left down an inconspicuous side street. “It’s really not my thing. But they promised to buy the first round so what can you do?”
Luisa smirked to herself – so maybe her initial assumptions of Jessica weren’t as far off the mark after all. Halfway down the street was a small luminous sign above a doorway and she followed Jessica down the stairs. What started off as soft murmurings grew in volume as they reached the bottom of the stairs. The small bar was heaving but Jessica seemed to have the innate ability to cut seamlessly through the throng with Luisa duly following. As they reached the other side of the bar, Luisa saw Peter and Brad in a corner booth.
“Seth’s at the bar,” Brad told them as they took a seat. “And yes,” he said to Jessica as she opened her mouth, “I told him your order.”
“Good.”
“Didn’t know what you wanted though,” Brad’s gaze turned on Luisa. “Seth said he’d take his best guess.”
Luisa gave him a small smile in return before glancing towards the bar. Next to her, Jessica had already started to talk shop, announcing yet another acquisition that she’d been pivotal in. Peter and Brad had both been assigned to the commercial arm of the company and were quick to tell Jessica of their own successes of the day. Luisa could only pray that their one-upmanship would continue long enough to forget her presence.
Still staring towards the bar, she felt her eyes grow heavy, her vision softening as she let the sounds of the chat and general bar noise drift over her. There was a soft cough and she blinked, almost disorientated.
Seth stared down at her, the smirk that she’d seen on Monday once again playing on his lips. In one hand he held a glass of white wine whilst the other held four bottles of beers nestled precariously between his fingers.
“Finally!” Jessica called out, reaching over Luisa to take the wine.
“I took a guess,” Seth said as he lowered one of the beers in front of Luisa.
“Thanks,” she reached forward and clutched the beer, surprised at how hot her hands suddenly felt against the ice-cold glass.
“You’re welcome.” His eyes remained on her as he took a seat opposite.
Luisa squirmed in her seat, her own gaze lowering to the table. She pulled the beer towards her and raised it to her lips. As she took a swig, she heard Peter’s question.
“So Seth, how’s it going down in Legal?”
Luisa rolled her eyes, waiting for Seth to launch into his own first-week accomplishments.
“It’s everything Law School told me it would be. Dull, uninspiring and a waste of time.”
Silence filled the booth and Luisa watched in fascination as Jessica, Peter and Brad stared at Seth. She chanced a look at his face and saw a more genuine smile starting to form. He caught her eye and winked and Luisa felt an overwhelming urge to laugh. Although the noise that escaped her was more of a snort.
Seth chuckled, leaning back as he took a swig of his drink. “At least someone appreciates my honesty.” He glanced around the table. “Oh c’mon, like any of you actually made a sale or had any more to do with an acquisition than filing paperwork and arranging the call for your managers.”
Luisa felt her mouth moving before she could stop it. “I mean if that’s how this works, then today I put together the press release for a new client and then arranged the launch party for a new product.”
Seth let out a bark of laughter. “Good one.” He glanced over at the other three. “I mean, feel free to keep the pretence up if it makes you feel better...”
Luisa could sense that Jessica was shooting daggers in their direction, but the thought of Jessica, who had just handed her a designer lipstick just because she could, spending her the last five days in the same lowly position as her was just too good.
She raised her beer, staring across the table at her newfound ally in this world. “To the dull and uninspiring.”
Seth grinned as he leaned across to tap his bottle against hers. “To a complete fucking waste of time.”
**
Two years later
She felt numb as he pushed the ring onto her finger. A smattering of applause broke out around them as he rose to his feet, pulling her up with him. She knew her part already, the blushing bride to be, showing the ring off to anyone who asked before beaming up at her betrothed. She felt his beard brush against her forehead, the scent of his cologne thick and close as he held her against him.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the maître d' gently manoeuvring his way through the tables towards them.
“Mr Rollins. Miss Haynes, let me be the first to offer my sincere congratulations,” he beamed at them. “We are truly honoured that you chose his wonderful setting for the occasion.”
“Well thank you for providing the perfect setting,” Seth replied. “I couldn’t think of a better way to ask the love of my life the ultimate question.”
Luisa felt a tap on her arm and she turned to see a middle-aged woman beaming up at her. “What a lucky girl you are,” the woman told her with a kind, yet oblivious smile. “I can tell you love each other very much.”
“Yes,” Luisa heard herself say. “We do.”
Once upon a time, she thought, that statement was true.
Not to clog up your inbox with this stuff but honestly still at the paul isabelle adjani possession because it just makes sooooooo much sense especially because the idea that George is Bob was kinda a joke but when you think like really think about it the teacher Anna -Helen - was super close to Bob aka the two sides of Paul the one close to John (Johns paul) the one close to George (George's paul - the two pauls often thought to be the same) and the way in the end when Bob runs to the bathtub to drown himself when the police come while that's not George behavior it's more the idea he's leaving getting away from the mess of John&Paul going underwater to the octopus garden the way even the subway breakdown scene like Paul wouldn't do that! BUT HE WOULD the subway scene Anna is alone, no cameras, no Mr Pr man has to come out here because there isn't anyone to impress he has no one but himself to be vulnerable in front off the way after the breakdown scene Mark finds Anna disgusting something something the way John was treating Paul 71 because of something out of their control and some of what John said sounds like he's disgusted with Paul and his new 'straight' lifestyle
Does this make any sense? It's just making me insaneeee replace Anna's ballerina job with Paul teaching piano or something I'm going to throw up
Oh, George definitely needed a wholesome version of Paul to play with...not a high-strung Possessed who daydreams about fucking the music creature elsewhere!
That said—doesn't the bathtub drowning also work as an attempt to follow Paul (and John) into The Deep, where the creatures live?
Maybe that's too pat. If anything, George/Bob grew up and moved out...and found another family altogether...! (Plays well with others)
And if there's anything Paul needed, it was a subway freakout. I think John would have loved that, actually, and Mark's disgust with Anna is more with her having done things behind his back than with what exactly she has done...
Anna teaching ballet and nearly breaking her student's spine = Paul and Wings?! Or Paul breaking his own back?!
2023 Movies You Need to Watch (Part One)
The year of 2023. What an interesting year it was for me personally. Honestly, I’m done with this year, so instead of thinking about the memories I’d rather forget, let’s go through the best movies of the year!
Scream 6 (Released March 10th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding
Director(s): Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett
Scream 6 is the first movie on my list and first horror movie! With the fifth movie being an excellent addition to the franchise, this sixth installment takes us out of Woodsboro and into the city that never sleeps: New York. This movie clearly benefits from the change of scenery, adding suspense in ways that was unreachable for the franchise until this point, like the subway scene with Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown) or the ladder scene with Anika (Devyn Nekoda). The story follows sisters Sam (Barrera) and Tara (Ortega) as they fight against another Ghostface.
What made this one stand out to me more is the lack of legacy characters this time around. Courtney Cox returns as Gale Weathers, in a very small cameo, while Hayden Panettiere reprises her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4 in a much more substantial role. Despite those additions, this is Barrera and Ortega’s movie, with their relationship becoming the main thing holding the movie together. The Ghostfaces (Yes, more than one) are kinda mediocre and predictable, but the motives aren’t, which makes up for it. All in all, an awesome suspenseful film that is a perfect end to a franchise, thanks to Barrera, Ortega, and the director leaving.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Released March 31st)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis
Director(s): Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley
An underrated gem from this year is Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The trailers did this movie an injustice, as it was nothing like they made it out to be. Pine and Rodriguez play a perfect platonic pair of friends as they try to survive in this big fantasy world. The story follows Edgin (Pine) and Holga (Rodriguez) as they travel across the world to save Edgin’s daughter Kira (Chloe Coleman) from Forge (Hugh Grant). Everyone plays their parts to perfection, and it makes you feel like you’re playing as these characters, and it shows that not everything will go as planned.
There are so many funny moments from the Fat Dragon to different ways Edgin gets out of sticky situations. It also helps that both Smith and Lillis play excellent side characters that add to the awkward dynamic that may feel familiar to D&D players. Along with that, there are fun cameos from different actors that I won’t spoil that made me and my friends laugh. I hate that this film didn’t get more love because it truly is a joy to watch it. All in all, this is an amazing movie that deserves more love, and you should give it a watch if you haven’t, you’ll enjoy it!!
Evil Dead Rise (Released April 21st)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols
Director: Lee Cronin
Another horror movie that came out this year, and on my birthday, was Evil Dead Rise! This was my first time watching an Evil Dead movie in the theater, and I really enjoyed it, thanks to other patrons in the theater. This movie was brutal, but not as brutal as the 2013 remake. A lot of people were mad about how goofy the movie was, but that’s actually my favorite part! It was like a return to the original Evil Dead, taking it back to its roots. I loved the change in scenery, from a cabin in the middle of the woods to an apartment building on the verge of falling apart.
The cold open was literally the best part, shoving people into the deep end and showing what’s to come. The story follows sisters Beth (Sullivan) and Ellie (Sutherland) as Ellie becomes possessed and begins to attack her sister and three children in their apartment. It was so suspenseful and insanely dramatic, to the point where it was laughable in the best way possible. Although, I’ll admit, the ending kind of lost me a little, I was willing to look past it thanks to the performances of the actors on screen. Overall, I say if you’re a fan of the first three Evil Dead movies starring Bruce Campbell, I highly recommend it. If you’re a fan of only the 2013 remake, I suggest going in with a bit of a warning that it is not as intense as the previous remake.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 (Released May 5th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan
Director: James Gunn
The end of a beautiful trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 not only solidifies the fact that this is the best trilogy, but also Gunn’s reputation as the best director in the MCU. From the very beginning, Gunn perfectly captured the tone of the film, and didn’t let me go until the very end. The story revolves around Rocket (Bradley Cooper) suffering a deadly injury, where Peter (Pratt) and the other Guardians travel to save him.
Throughout this movie, I was so anxious that someone was going to die, but to my surprise, Gunn didn’t kill anyone off. I adore this film so much, and while Gunn has left, I will hold this story and the other two in my heart forever. If you would like to read more about the Guardians from me, please go to my previous post!
The Little Mermaid (Released May 26th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina
Director: Rob Marshall
Ah, the best Disney remake. Ariel has always been my favorite princess. I wasn’t born when the movie first came out, but coming from Hawai’i, I’m constantly surrounded by water, so how could I not have Ariel as my favorite princess? When I heard that they were remaking it for live action, I was excited. I was even more excited when they casted Bailey in the role.
Although I am not African American myself, I am a POC, and it made me so happy to see representation. I can see the joy in other girls' faces when they see Bailey performing as Ariel, and it brings a tear to my eye. I never had anything like that growing up and seeing them makes me so happy. If you would like to read more about The Little Mermaid, please read my post below.
Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse (Released June 2nd)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brain Tyler Henry, Lauren Vélez
Director(s): Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson
The sequel to the highly praised Spider Verse movie has finally been released this year, and it does not disappoint. First off, addressing something in the room, although it is a Part One to another movie, this is a full movie, and it does end on a cliffhanger, but it has an ending! This movie tries to pack so much into its runtime, that I’m surprised it even accomplished being a complete movie! It builds off of everything that happened in ‘Into the Spiderverse’, building off of characters like Gwen and Peter B. Parker, while also making us care about new characters, like Spider Punk and Spider-Man India.
This might be pretty contriversial, but I am not a fan of Spider-Man 2099, he’s too much of an asshole for me to care about him. The only saving grace is that he’s played by Oscar Isaac. Also, Jason Schwartzman as the villain was surprisingly amazing, and his origin story is hilarious. All in all, an excellent sequel that leaves me dying for more!
Elemental (Released June 16th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Disney Movies)
Starring: Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi
Director: Peter Sohn
Pixar is still releasing bangers, with Elemental being added to the list. First off, the trailers did this movie a HUGE disservice! It sold it as some whimsical world where elements live together in harmony, but it is a retelling of Sohn’s life story told through the eyes of Ember (Lewis). It is emotional, and it hits me in a certain way, thanks to being raised with Asian parents.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Los Angeles Times)
Ember and Wade (Athie) are both adorable in their own way, and I believe that people just saw this as a Zootopia rip off and decided not to go. It’s not!! They’re two different stories!! Please go ahead and watch it if you haven’t!! You will not be disappointed. With Pixar movies just being shoved into Disney+, Elemental deserves to be on the big screen.
With that, I’m ending the first part here! Thank you for reading, be on the lookout for Part Two and my review of The Iron Claw, coming out next week!
fic authors self rec! when you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written :)
haha thanks friend <3
I’ve technically only published 5 fics so by default they’re all my fave fics that I’ve written 😂. In order of oldest to most recently published:
1. Prayers
Lil Renee character study in a canon-compliant au where she is half Korean and I explore a small moment of what that could be like for her. It’s quite a personal fic for me cuz I used a lot of personal experiences to write it but it broke my years long writers block so I’m quite proud of it
2. A Damned Saint, An Honorable Villain
This fic was a whole bunch of new writing experiments for me that I think I executed quite successfully. The star of this fic is the nonlinear timeline cuz I somehow managed to write one of those cool funky pieces of writing where you gotta read it twice cuz it reads differently as it’s written compared to when you read the parts in chronological order
3. sometimes i wish i kept some of my feelings in the basement
In writing this fic, I basically blacked out and vomited up all of my feelings into a love letter to Andrew Minyard. It’s 2nd person, which I know isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you love Andrew, you should give it a chance
4. leave or stay (I’m invisible here)
After watching KinnPorsche, I was possessed by many feelings about Kim and KimChay and I poured them all into this fic. It follows Kim’s pov starting from the “I love you” scene to a little beyond canon and if you love Kim it’s the fic for you
5. 산낙지 ㅣ Sannakji
A fun short little crack fic I wrote in half an hour on a subway in Seoul. Features Andrew and Renee being besties and Andrew being a dumb loser refusing to back down from a challenge
Can I ask about the milk and eggs imaginary? Like, why you think it is used because I did not clock that at all while watching
sure! in both films, motherhood is a central theme, especially fears about giving birth and raising children. eggs and milk are associated with fertility, motherhood, childbirth, etc.
in possession, when she smashes her groceries in the subway, it’s milk and eggs, and the fluids that — idk how to describe this scene without it sounding gross lol — that come out of her also resemble milk (and blood). those are also the fluids that come out of women during/after childbirth. what is happening to her mirrors a perverse version of pregnancy — that line that is alluded to in evil dead rise is “it’s in me,” then there’s a “gestation period” so to speak for the creature in that movie as it gradually develops into something humanoid, a process which involves sexual intercourse and conception. that milk/blood combination is also seen at the foot of the bed in the room that the creature is in, making a direct link between what’s happening in those two scenes. there’s also the distant relationship with her own child where she basically is unable to actually raise him and meet his needs. the story hinges on these ideas about marriage, the domestic sphere, sex and extramarital relationships, failed relationships, failure in parenthood, etc.
evil dead rise also picks up some of these themes, which is why i think it’s so smart for the writers to invoke these parallels to possession. ellie is also dealing with a recent separation, the family is adjusting to similar disturbances to their domestic life. so in the scene where possessed ellie starts breaking the eggs and talking about how she wants to kill her children etc, the eggs = her children. then immediately after, when she vomits, it’s that milk-like fluid also. part of the possession process in this movie is the characters frothing at the mouth which is also a white fluid (and which also happens in evil dead 2013) but ellie is the only one to actually puke up milk like that, in that amount. shortly after, she says she’s free of “titty-sucking parasites” which. yeah i feel like i don’t have to explain that lol but the insults she levels at her children are all about how they’re a burden basically (which the real ellie clearly does not feel, but which reflects a fear shared by parents and children that a resentment will grow directed at the child for relying on the parent for their basic needs to be met). then of course there’s the issue of beth’s pregnancy, and all the insults directed at her are playing off her fears of being a mother, how she’s not fit for parenthood, and how difficult having children is
something else i noticed was that both of the films take place mainly in an apartment/apartments, with only few scenes in either happening outside of this domestic urban setting. idk if there’s anything to interpret about that thematically lol just something to think about
Thinking about the parallels between Ringo and Kanba
While their direct interactions in the narrative are limited, by the end of the story their arcs mirror each other in similar ways.
First off, out of the main four, they are the most active protagonists, Ringo drives much of the first half of the story with her plans to seduce Tabuki while Kanba's fall from grace ends up fueling the climax, in contrast to Shouma and Himari's passivity and fatalism, they are the ones who chase after love as described in the Frozen Heart scene, when faced with their family failing apart, they choose to get their hands dirty and do whatever they can to save them
Not only does this drive them towards criminal and unethical behavior though, it also gives them both a tendency for delusion. Ringo believes that following Momoka's planned future means her parents will get back together. Kanba thinks bombing a subway will save his terminally ill sister. The more obviously futile their path becomes, the more they cling to their fantastical beliefs, bc realizing the truth is beyond their emotional capacity, in fact it takes again the more passive yet kind and morally-focused half of the quartet to ground them, often through a personal sacrifice
Yet as prone to danger as this activeness makes them, it also provides them a bit of fluidity to the most common notions of the nuclear family, even while they long for that traditional structure. Both Himari and Kanba are adopted into the Takakura family, yet Kanba still keeps his ties to the Natsume family. Some of this can be attributed to Masako's pursuit of him, but it is telling that for all his ruthlessness, when he discovers Mario is also possessed by the Penguin hat/terminally ill, he gives up on retrieving Momoka's diary. While he prioritizes the Takakura's he still extends his protective man of house role to Masako and Mario, even taking a bullet for the former and risking his entire goal of saving Himari
Meanwhile not only does Ringo learn to carry on Momoka's legacy in a less destructive way, but she becomes just as part of the Takakura household as the siblings themselves. It is telling that she first meets and befriends Himari as opposed to her love interest, Shouma. Being a part of the Takakura meal times provides Ringo the familial love she so desperately craves, and even with faced the impact of the Takakura parent's actions, she still chooses to align herself with them, even by the end choosing to take on a punishment herself for the Takakura's sake. While she does open up to meeting her father's new wife and kids, she chooses to be with the Takakura's just as much as the siblings chose to be with each other
Their fluidity and strong-wills might also explain how the two of them are able to interrupt the Princess of the Crystal's usual rituals. Multiple times, Kanba is allowed to linger in her realm and interact privately one on one with her, even going so far as to enter it through his own volition, rather than wait to be summoned. In contrast, not only does Ringo reject being eject from the Princess' realm but is able to fight back and even incapacitates her. Shouma can do little more whine and receive orders. Himari is an unknowing vessel. But Kanba and Ringo defy even a supernatural, semi-force of nature.
It's fitting they're both identified with the symbol of fire. Kanba is asked if he will burn himself until he is nothing but ash for Himari's safety. Ringo goes on to take on the flames of punishment for her during the finale. Perhaps they both possess a scorpion's heart, capable of poison and causing immense harm towards others, but also able to rekindle that selfishness into selflessness under the right circumstances
“One Minute” or “By Your Side”
I got possessed to write this after I got out of work, and so here’s a Donnie and Leo twin fic that’s angsty as all hell. I couldn’t decide on a title so it’s a toss up between those.
˚✧₊⁎💙💜⁎⁺˳✧༚
“No Leo!” Donnie yelled. The battle shell he was working on forgotten about as he tried to hold back his tears. “I’m not talking about when we lost you in that kraang dimension!”
“Then why are you so upset?!” With a huff, Leo dropped onto the bed. His leg had been healed enough to walk him from the med room to Donnie’s lab, that’s for sure, but he couldn’t stand there for that long. Not yet at least, with the way Donnie said his knee cap was fractured. “I don’t get it. I don’t get why you’re so adamant about this!”
“‘Cause you don’t understand!” Donnie replied.
“Then tell me! I can’t read you mind-!”
“You died!” He snapped. Donnie turned around from the table, tears flowing freely now in the purple LED lights.
Leo sat there stunned. The breath in his lungs held itself in his throat and the words on his tongue died like Donnie said he had. “What?” His voice barely above a whisper.
“You died. I’m not talking about when we lost you in the other dimension. No. Your heart stopped beating for one minute on the way back to the lair.” Donnie turned back to the haphazard piles of wires and metal on the table.“For one minute—for seventy-four seconds—you were dead and for the first time in our existence…I was alone.”
He couldn’t look at his twin the same anymore.
They thought Leo was stable enough to move to the lair, and while he needed the most medical attention out of the group, every one believes he was good enough to move through the subway tunnels towards home. He had been doing fine, up until the station on sixteenth and broadway when he had gone quiet and limp. Leo had started slipping out of April and Donnie’s grip, his legs unmoving and head hanging against his chest. April was the one to notice first, not liking the way Leo’s hand wasn’t gripping onto hers anymore.
When they laid him, Leo’s eyes had glazed over, a ghostly sheen that spread over his irises and left him starting ahead at whatever victim was in its path. And Donnie was right next to him.
Donnie couldn’t move. He couldn’t breathe. The world below him disappeared and he was falling through into nothingness; his world had became nothing as he stared at his twin brother’s dead eyes. Around him, fuzzy figures went to work trying their best to reanimate the dead turtle. He saw red and orange were the first to the scene, their hands following the steps from the cpr training a few years ago. Yellow was next to him, trying to shake him out of his stupor. Grey was somewhere, Donnie couldn’t see where, it didn’t matter at that point. Donnie was now alone in this world.
Everything zeroed in on Donnie as the realization hit him: Leo broke his promise.
A flash of a memory, a ghost of a forgotten time when the twin were just under six years old, hiding beneath their shared blanket in the middle of the night. Bright eyes starting at each other as they giggled about everything and anything.
“Hey ‘tello?” The blue-dressed turtle said.
“Yeah ‘nardo?” The purple one replied.
“You’re never going to leave me right? You’ll always be with me?”
“Of course!” The child’s voice beamed. “But only if you promise to never leave me alone, m’kay?”
“I promise! I’ll always be right by your side!” The blue turtle held out his third finger. “I pinkie promise!”
“But we don’t have pinkies!”
“Doesn’t matter! You have to promise to, okay?”
“Okay,” the purple turtle wrapped his third finger around his brothers, eyes half closed as sleep was rushing over them both. “I promise.”
Donnie didn’t know what to do in those few seconds, that moment when his whole world crumbled to the ground. And then he heard a gasp and yelled of relief. He saw black gloves twitch off the ground and a blue bandanna spring to life before reading on the cold concrete of the subway station. And while everyone else had expressed their concerns and double checked if Leo was okay to move again, Donnie had still stayed frozen in place, his eyes staring at where Leo’s dead ones looked back at him.
“Donnie,” Leo said breaking the silence.
“No! No! Don’t ‘Donnie’ me!” The older twin yelled, angry tears replaced the sad ones, but they were tears nonetheless. “I had to loose you twice! Twice! I had to watch you break your promise twice, Leo! You said you’d always be by my side, you promised we’d be twins forever, and then you had to do you dumb-dumb self sacrifice to save our dumb-dumb lives without thinking of how that would affect me!!”
His chest heaved, every ounce of anger and grief pouring in his words. Donnie had been fighting a war against his emotions since the invasion, trying to keep his head level and not think about those few moments where his other half had been gone, and right now he was loosing. Donnie wiped a few tears from his face, his cheeks feeling dry and crusted over from the salt, “I…I do t know how to live if you’re not there, ‘nardo, because you’ve always been there.”
“It’s always been us, always been me and you.” Leo looked away from his brother, his own tears creeping up on him. “And then it was just me…I-I don’t know what that’s like, and I don’t ever want to find out again.”
That’s how it had always been, since they were toddlers, Leo and Donnie were practically glued at the hip. Wherever one went, the other would follow. When one got sick, the other was right next to them. Even if they fought or argued, they never strayed far from the other. The blue and purple turtles had a bond so very different than the rest.
When they were older, shortly after reforming Draxum from villainy to lord of the lunchroom, they had found blueprints of Draxum’s lab. Original ones at that.
In the design for the center spire, the one that housed the oozequitoes and the cage where their father was trapped in, there was no separation wall between Leo and Donnie’s mutation bobble. They had been floating the same goop when they were mutated by ooze and Lou Jitsu’s DNA. No wonder they had been so close—they were practically reborn as twins when they were mutated!
Wether it was a coincidence or not, Leo and Donnie had grown up as them against the world, and for a few moments, it was just Donnie.
Leo grunted, his voice bringing Donnie’s attention to him, his non-existent eyebrows were furrowed as he stood up from the bed. There were no arm rests to help him up and his walker was too far away to grab, but that didn’t stop him. And slowly, oh so slowly he made his way to his twin, weak and recovering arms wrapping around his brother and the bandages that covered Donnie’s injuries.
“Leo wha—?” Donnie began, started by the unannounced touch.
“I’m sorry, ‘tello.”
Donnie cried again for the second time that day as he wrapped his around his brother’s cracked shell, burying his sobs in his neck as the two of them hugged. And for the first time since the end of the invasion, Donnie didn’t feel alone anymore, not when he had his twin by his side.
˚✧₊⁎💙💜⁎⁺˳✧༚
Don’t ask how many words that is I wrote it on my phone notes.
Also, I hc that Donnie and Leo have nicknames for each other that only they can use. Like Leo’s is “Nardo” and Donnie’s is “tello” I just think that’s cute.
Keeping on-brand, I’ve been thinking about baby model Gigi lately, and this simple little friend story appeared. It’s just friendship and a good memory with underlying baby Crygi feelings.
           “Okay, step up a little bit.”
           “Where the hell did you take me?? Why are there so many-oh god no. No. Are we in Times Square?”
           Silence-followed immediately by Jan’s shit-eating grin and Crystal’s mischievous giggling. Gigi may be blindfolded, and she may be a self-proclaimed ditz, but the memories of being run down by tourists in the city have burned the feeling of Times Square into her body’s internal memory bank.
           “What would possess you to bring me here on a Friday night-how much did we just spend on that Uber?”
           “Shh, relax.”
           “We could’ve taken the subway if you’d have just let me know where we were going!”
           “But then you wouldn’t have come! And you have to be here. This is very important.”
           “Jan, I love you so much but this is you talking. And if it’s you talking I’m lead to believe that we’re on our way to see Wicked again. Which…I love the show, don’t get me wrong, but there’s only so many times I can sit next to you while you sob through Defying Gravity before I need several months to recover.”
           “It’s worth it, Geege. Trust me.” Crystal gives her arm a little squeeze, and they slow down a bit. Through the noise of the traffic, Gigi can hear Jackie and Jan arguing about directions. She wonders how exactly she got to this point, a college dropout with a group of silly, perfectly mismatched friends who she’d follow blindfolded into the busiest part of the city without reservations. One moment, she’d been sitting in art history wondering what she was doing in New York and the next she was working alongside one of her idols, college free and learning from the best. Those first few weeks in college had given her the friends she’d needed to get through the work, so it hadn’t all gone to waste. They gave her the college experience; parties, clubs, the freedom of being away from home and finding yourself. They also gave her late night study sessions huddled up in her apartment while she worked on her latest project, helping Jan through auditions by reading through lines with her or being Crystal’s comic relief while she painted, making snacks and playlists and reciting horrible jokes. Jackie-well, there wasn’t much to be helped there, but Gigi likes to think that asking her questions about her latest study in political science is enough support as it is.
           They’re her friends, and she’s missed them so much while being away-even as the bantering continues as Jackie and Jan turn her body multiple times, quipping back and forth with each other until Crystal’s hands take both of her shoulders to steady her.
           “Ladies, please. I know we’re all very excited, but I’m pretty sure we’re a block away from where we need to be anyway.” Crystal’s voice is diplomatic, yet very clearly dripping with humor. Gigi groans, shifting her weight from toe to toe. She’s sure they’re causing a scene, although the middle of Times Square surely is the place where something like this mismatched group of people and a blindfolded woman will blend right into the background. Without her sight, every other sense is on fire; Crystal’s hold on her shoulder’s is warm and tingling, Jackie and Jan’s voices very clear through the sirens. She’s sure she’d be able to tune into any of the other passing conversations if she truly tried.
           “We need to find it soon, Geege is literally covered in goosebumps. One week in California and she forgets how to be a New Yorker.” Having just come back from a week in Los Angeles, she’d forgotten just how crisp the Spring nights could be. She finds herself shivering at Jackie’s observation, relief coming only when a soft, fuzzy coat is draped over her shoulders. Crystal. Crystal and her big fluffy jacket she’d refused to take off after thrifting it for only $3 when Gigi had pointed out that it should have been marked way higher. A steal of a deal, the pastel rainbow fuzz could be described only as cotton candy in a piece of clothing, and yet somehow her best friend made it look as though it were the most sought-after item on the market.
           The arguing subsides when Jan gasps, grabbing Gigi’s arm tight and shouting.
           “There! There! Look! Do you see it?”
           Jackie gasps and Crystal squeals, Gigi feeling her jump up and down from beside her. The three talk all at once, exclamations of oh my god and are you kidding and one airy sigh of jeez before Gigi scowls.
           “I’m going to take this thing off if you don’t tell me what’s going on!”
           “Oh! Shit! OH my god, sorry, here!” Jan, in her excitable fashion, all but rips the eye mask off of Gigi’s face, and for a moment she’s paralyzed by the brightness of the lights. Crystal’s hugging her side now, pointing her finger up at a wall of buildings illuminated by lit-up advertisements. Then, she sees it.
           “What,” It’s all she can say, breathless and disbelieving as her eyes widen in wonder. Jackie has her phone pointed dutifully at her, and Jan’s own camera clicks, but Gigi is stuck in place with an open mouth.
           “That’s me.”
           “That’s you!” Crystal squeezes her, eyes torn between the lit-up advertisement and the real person as they fill up with tears. “You’re literally up in lights.”
           “I don’t even…I can’t….oh my god.”
           “Take a picture! Did you take a picture? Gigi, stand right there!”
           Crystal backs up and stands beside their friends, pulling her own phone from her pocket and waving her hand at the redhead. For a moment, Gigi looks back at them with her mouth agape. Then, she’s turned around, posing for the camera with a well-practiced tilt of the head. She perfectly mimics the pose at hand, sultry eyes and parted lips, a hand on her hip and eyes that simmer with practiced, untouchable energy. Then she laughs, shrugging Crystal’s jacket down to her elbows and hugging it to her, sticking out her tongue. It’s an infectious energy, one that continues on as she turns one more time to stare back at her image illuminated and blown up to the size of  buildings.
           She ends up posting the photos for her rapidly rising  follower count later that night, after they’ve gone out to celebrate (after telling Jan that no, they wouldn’t be entering the Wicked lottery that night). She’s tucked into her bed between Crystal and Jackie, Jan on Jackie’s other side. It’s a tight squeeze but they pile onto each other anyway, limbs over limbs and laughter stopping any attempt at sleeping.
           Crystal’s head lolls onto Gigi’s shoulder as she watches her flip through the pictures she’s been airdropped, combining them into one perfect Instagram post. The first is the sultry mock-up, the most poised and polished version of herself showing off the billboard. Then the video reveal, her standing shock-still and staring up at the screen
           The last is her favorite.
           She and Crystal are standing side-by-side, backs to the camera. Crystal’s pointing up at the screen with one hand while Gigi clings to her other arm. She’s wearing the insufferable cotton candy jacket, scarlet hair cascading in waves down the back. Her head is on Crystal’s shoulder. This is the picture she wants to memorialize the moment with; the two of them, as it should be. She can hear the pride in her best friend’s voice, feel the nervous fluttering in her heart from seeing the reality of all of her hard work paying off in full. It’s every last trip away from home coming full circle, every time she’d wanted to quit or wondered why she even agreed to start in the first place telling her she was right not to give up. It’s the ability to share this moment with the person who’d been on the other end of every late night phone call, every bout of homesickness, every joke that’d pulled her through.
           It’s the sound of I’m so proud of you captured in one picture.
           She can feel Crystal’s smile against her as she types and deletes captions, lowering her head so that her cheek can rest on her soft curls.
           “You’re incredible,” Crystal murmurs. She’s looking at her own phone now, where Gigi’s post has just gone live. The video plays on as they watch the moment Jan rips the blindfold-the disbelief, the hugging, the joy. Gigi tucks her own phone away and shifts down in the bed, cheek to cheek with her best friend. They shuffle around until they’re a tangle of limbs and sappy smiles. Jackie’s head is on her back and she’s flopped over onto Crystal’s chest, arms wrapped around her with a sleepy refusal to let go.
           The four finally fall asleep while they drift away from conversations about the future; Gigi’s next trip is only a few weeks away, Jan has a twenty-four hour festival to ready herself for, Jackie’s taking on a thesis, and Crystal’s submitting art for a possible gallery slot. In a contented pile of limbs far too big for her bed and surrounded by love, Gigi sleeps the best she has in a long, long time.
