Hey, I wanted to ask about your experience at comic con. Did you enjoy it? Or have any tips for first timers? Like money, necessities and what not?
sorry it took me a min to reply!!! i’m still getting back into the grove of normal life (boooooooo) also this response is gonna be all over the place so MY BAD lmao. but omg yall my experience was AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!! INCREDIBLE !!!!! UNFORGETTABLE !!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH !!!!!!!!! there were tons of crowds and lots of lines, so you have to know where you wanna go. cole and i planned out our schedules each day before, but they’d move around based on actual timing, lines, mapping, etc. so we had backup plans too lol. okay so one of my biggest tips for first timers is - you’re (most likely) not gonna get into hall h unless you camp out overnight !!! hall h is where marvel, WB, aka all the big budget/studio stuff ends up. you need a wristband to get in, and people are wild about it, when cole and i lined up for general entry friday at 5am, people were already lined up to get hall h wristbands for SATURDAY !! it’s not worth it to miss everything the other days, just to get a sneak peak of a trailer they’re going to release four minutes after comic con. because of this, we ended up at much more intimate panels. for instance, WE GOT INTO YOUNG JUSTICE YALL wtf that was a highlight of my life. and we saw the wynonna earp panel, which was in a really small room and i basically stared katherine barrell in the face the entire time. pick what you think you’re going to have the most fulfilling time doing!! another thing is - the lines for panels are actually for the ROOM, not the panel, aka they dont clear out the room between panels, so sometimes its helpful to get to a panel for the one before you want to see, depending on it’s popularity and what not. like cole and i saw broad city, and we knew it would be a popular one, so we got in for the panel before (which was the guild 10th anniversary and it was actually really great hahah) and it guaranteed us a spot for broad city. aside from panels there’s the exhibition hall (artists alley, retail stuff, etc.) and those get insane waits too, depending on what you want. apparently the Lego stuff would sell out within the first few hours each day ?? there’s also events that go on right outside the center (”experiences,” where you’re like put into the universe) and those seemed to have long ass waits - there was one for GOT, Bladerunner, and a few more, and people i met waited 3 hours to get into one, so you gotta decide what’s worth it for you! also, we never quite figured out the line/lottery situation for autographs, but theres def a specific spot to line up for that once they start letting people into the convention center. we’re gonna try to get our life together for that next year! as for money and necessities - bring cash!! most places take card, but it’s easier to get deals and it moves faster if you just have cash. as far as prices go for merch, obvis it depends - some stuff i got was a $10 gay star wars pin, $15 limited edition sailor moon shirt, $25 b:tas batgirl/ivy/harley shirt. cole got a print sketch from an artist down artist alley, who also signed it, and that was $15. food stuff - bring snacks and water, most panels have refill water spots so don’t overload on water bottles (like we did day one!!! omg my back was a #wreck) there’s places to get food inside the con (although we never got that stuff) and there’s stuff like half a mile away from it, most of them have comic con deals! there’s stuff like pizza, chipotle, salad bars, etc.
overall, everyone was SO incredibly nice and helpful and excited, which i didn’t expect from such an overpopulated, tiring event. literally all of the event staff, attendees, artists, panelists, etc. were just in great moods. like, cole and i had genuine 10 minute conversations with multiple dc artists ?? it was a once in a lifetime experience and i just wanna be able to go every single year now !!! !!!!!!!! i hope this mess of a response was at least kinda helpful hahahha
