✦ a friendship by letters - Edmund Pevensie x Reader
Tumblr media
summary: a friendship formed in childhood, a friendship that survived the riskiest adventures ... what will happen when they separate and their only contact is letters? word counter: 2,674
warnings: abandoned parents
according to the books the ages of the characters should be different, but in this one-shot their ages will be those agreed by wikipedia reasoning with the actors’ age in the year of recording of the second film (it is an approximation):
Peter - 20
Susan - 17
Edmund - 15/16
Lucy - 12
Prince Caspian - 26
digory kirke had raised you after being abandoned by your family. when world war II came to england, food was scarce. you were barely three when your parents took you to have a tea afternoon with your favorite uncle, but they never came back to pick you up. at first you didn’t understand, why had they abandoned you? people should not leave the people they love, that's what your fairytales said; but this wasn't a story, it was reality.
digory took care to keep you safe and with everything you needed. the years went by and your parents had become a vague memory, you no longer had remorse for them; a three-year-old girl had seemed a nuisance to them at the time.
when you turned eight, you got the first letter from them; they had started a new family, they had a pair of twins with blue heavenly eyes, they looked a lot like you. your little person wondered if they would see the resemblance and leave them too. despite the confusing news, that birthday was the best of your entire childhood, because an even better news had arrived. after all these years, you’d have some kids to be with. kirke had taken care of your education so you’d never had another friend than your uncle and the people who worked for him. the day the pevensies arrived was cloudy, a typical english day, with a small drizzle that would get wet from time to time.
they were well-dressed and with dubious faces, they were more confused to see a sweet girl waiting for them at the door of the cottage.
"hi, it’s nice to meet you!" you shook hands with them politely, despite your enthusiasm.
"we didn’t know there would be more children" one of the children, with freckles on his pale cheeks, looked at you from top to bottom, it didn’t seem much older than you but he seemed to judge you with just a few words.
"don’t be rude, edmund!" the other boy gently pushed his head, he looked like the oldest of them all.
the four of them were very nice, some more than others but they treated you well. you used to play in the big courtyards and take classes together. you had discovered each other’s personality shortly after your arrival; you were very observant. peter was the loudest talker, if it was a sports team he’d be the leader. but susan was not left behind, she was very smart and knew a lot about all the topics they talked about during meals. edmund didn’t talk much but he wasn’t quiet, of the four he was the most serious and acid but he wasn’t a bad kid. and finally lucy, she was a walking ray of sunshine, with that no further description was needed.
"why can’t we see the old man?" edmund was at your side as the two of you walked down the dirt road. the cook had ordered you to go in search of bread and milk.
"his name isn't old man, his name is digory kirke…” as they moved on and crossed people, edmund was surprised as every redneck seemed to know you.
"you said he raised you, how did he raise you if you never saw him?"
"yes I saw him, we spent all our time together...but now he’s busier than before"
"but...where are your parents?" edmund’s childish mind thought she was there for the same reason as them; perhaps, he wanted to think that her mother was a nurse and her father a soldier, that would be to have heroic parents. but your look got lost in the trees on your side as you didn’t answer, instead you said,
"race to the store!"
that was your first interaction. thanks to that race your friendship was forged, after two weeks of them living in your house.
your last interaction was the day they returned to finchley. the chaos continued, but was not enough to keep them away from home, so they had to leave. the four of them were on the cart thrown by a horse, ready to go to the train station; lucy greeted you, already sitting, fluttering her little hand. peter left you a kiss on the forehead and susan hugged you tight.
when edmund’s turn came, your eyes watered down, provoking ed to shed a tear. you had become best friends, everything that had happened in narnia had brought you together more than ever; you had grown up together, even though you then returned to your little child body.
"I packed you a book I found in the library, it’s about narnia," you whispered when you hugged him. "take good care of him"
"with my life" so you saw them leave, as they greeted you waving their arms as you did the same.
time went by and years flew away. years when the only contact between you and the pevensies, especially edmund, was letters. letters that came and went every week, so they grew together but apart.
when you turned 13, you started high school. your joy was so immense that the first thing you did was write to your great friend.
‘my dearest edmund
I have great news. this year I will start high school in a school. a real school! uncle took me yesterday to buy my supplies and uniform. is unreal!
how are you, lucy, peter and susan? I miss them too, I miss you and narnia. how's school? is it tiring to live there? I hope not because my school is a boarding school too. I hope to see you soon
y/n"
the letter arrived two days later in edmund’s school room. his heart exploded because of the great happiness it gave him, you would have other friends and you could live a normal teenage life. he immediately wrote you a letter expressing his joy.
my dear y / n,
I also miss you more than you imagine and reading you so happy about your new school makes me want to run to hug you. I know I can't, I imagine it and I enjoy it just the same.
we are all fine, school is always the same. boring. but in the boarding school, I know that you will have fun and will make many friends.
i care about you
yours, edmund.
when you started school, the sending of letters began to be less frequent. the correspondence between the secondary schools was slow, which made it difficult to communicate. the letters took weeks to arrive, between two and three. on a saturday afternoon, he got his first letter of yours after weeks.
‘dear ed,
the mail sucks! all the letters I was sending you didn’t reach your school, I know because they were all returned to my address. I’m tired of this, I want to see you and go to narnia again...
in other news, you remember I made two friends? well, they introduced me to roger. he’s very friendly and he always accompanies me to all the classes, but well...I’m happy to make friends.
In a few days it’s the christmas ball and I’d like us to go together...i mean, the five of us. I know it’s not possible, but it’s a nice idea.
tell me about yourself.
with love, y/n!’
edmund still did not know why but, after reading the letter, an anger invaded him, he even thought he would explode. who was roger? would you go to the ball with roger?
"I had it sorted" said peter, looking at him, while waiting for the train, edmund just rolled his eyes.
"since when do you get into fights, edmund?" lucy looked at him from across the bench. "since he received the letter from y/n the other day" said his bigger sister moving her eyebrows coquettishly.
"why don’t you shut up, susan?!"
"both of you shut up!" peter screamed when everything around him started to disappear.
out of nowhere, the four were inside a cave with access to the sea. an immense joy filled them, they were in narnia. at that time, while everyone was taking off their clothes, to dive into the transparent water, edmund just wanted to grab a paper and quill to tell you, but it was impossible. in fact, they were in a narnia 1300 years older. their kingdom had been invaded and the magic of it was dying faster and faster. edmund wanted you there, while he walked the meadows looking at the ruins of what was cair paravel. but you were in england.
"y/n are you ready for the ball tonight?" one of your friends was walking beside you on the streets of london. the teachers had let all the students go in search of their garments for the feast, the very day of the celebration.
"not really, I have never been to a party so I’m a little nervous"
"it’s easier than it looks" you were turning the corner when you thought you saw a shiny fur. "are you okay, y/n?” the girl next to you asked as she saw you looking for something with intensity. what you saw it looked like a lion, but it was impossible. lions in london? will be aslan?
"is that...I remembered that I must call my uncle to wish him a good christmas eve, yes that!... emm, you go ahead, I’ll go talk on the phone and catch you" so you retire at a fast pace, to see the lion enter a phone booth. of a push you entered the red booth, finding a small golden paper on the machine.
'You know what numbers to dial’
it would be lying to say you were confused, the number 338 appeared in your mind immediately; it was your room number inside of cair paravel. when your fingers moved through the numbers, the machine began to tremble slightly, making all your surroundings become blurry. in the blink of an eye, you were standing in a meadow full of daisies. you were alone but far away you could see what seemed like a how, a shelter.
without the need to ask anyone, you knew it. you were in Narnia, you felt it in your bones. It was different, but the aroma and familiarity did not go unnoticed.
the trees were not as you remembered them, they used to dance around you every time you made an appearance in the gardens but this time they stood still; they seemed asleep. your school uniform started to heat you up so as you moved along the green lawn you left your clothes in the way, until you were left with your blue skirt, which reached a little above the knee, your shoes and the white shirt. you felt at home, you had returned to your home; among your thoughts, the idea of the pevensie being there also reached your head and you wished that aslan would appear back to show you the way to them. but instead of aslan, a horse being ridden by a men appeared before you.
"I’m sorry, miss, but may I ask who you are?" a dark-haired boy got off his horse to stand in front of you, curiously. he had never seen you before, but he knew you weren’t a telmarine, or you would have bowed to him, and you weren’t a narnian because the sons of adam and eve who belonged to narnia, were the kings and queens and he already knew them.
"my name is y/n, gentleman...and you are?"
"prince caspian, future telmarine king" telmarine? it sounded familiar to your ear, perhaps you had read it in some book of prophecies in your stay in narnia years ago; but it had been so long that no memory came to your mind. "you’re a daughter of eve, right?"
"I don’t have horse legs so I’m not a centaur" you said in a comedy voice that wasn’t funny enough for the prince to smile, so you stopped your laugh and continued to say "yes, I’m a daughter of eve."
"come with me then" the situation that edmund had gone through came to your mind, you didn’t know whether to trust the boy who claimed to be future king. despite your doubts, you didn’t have the courage to ask where he would take you and you decided to trust him, asking aslan to give you back your fighting skills if necessary; it’s been a long time since you’ve practiced, sword fighting was not a common hobby in finchley.
you skillfully climbed, to caspian’s surprise, to the white horse where he had come to you. the said prince took the reins and began to ride. they went up a high meadow, from there you could see the transparent waters several meters down. if the situation had been different, you would have run down to the sand to enjoy the water, but the uncertainty of where you were going did not leave you. surprisingly, you arrived very quickly at the place you had seen before. now from close up you could see that it was, aslan’s how. caspian didn’t kidnap you, he was a good man. so, thanking him you got off your horse and looked around as the prince walked into the how. edmund was busy looking at a map, but someone’s footsteps from behind distracted him.
"yes you take your time, we don’t need you to make war plans" the sarcastic voice, that so characterized ed, echoed through the shelter as it reached the outside causing you to freeze. it was a voice you were unfamiliar with but you had heard it before. your mind traveled to the last time you spoke on a pay phone with your best friend and recognized the voice. it was edmund, but he had grown up. he had obviously grown up, like you had.
"I’m sorry, I found someone on the way..."
"with whom you could possibly have met in the middle of the wood-" edmund’s gaze moved towards the entrance of the place when he saw a delicate figure enter. those sweet traits that he remembered so much from his childhood were refined, elegant, but they kept that shred of innocence that he liked so much. that face that was so much expected to be found casually on the streets of london or finchley was in front of him, dressed in what looked like the remains of a school uniform and the astonished eyes absorbing all around her.
"y/n..." it was a whisper, but the echo of the how made it sound loud enough for you to hear.
so you looked up meeting the person who had occupied your head since you were eight. the boy  you used to create scenarios with at night. the boy who was a little kid and now was a man in armor looking at you from the other side of the room. the boy you were afraid to see holding someone else’s hand. your mind failed to form a word because you were already running towards him, to wrap yourself in his body. his arms traveled to your waist swiftly as he lifted you from the ground and shoved his face up your neck, smelling your scent that he had so missed. one of your hands traveled to his hair caressing that darkness that you used to braid when you were just a kid.
"hello ed" you whispered giving yourself permission to shed a tear. edmund felt that drop of water fall on his shirt, so he took you off his body to start leaving kisses all over your face, causing laughter in both. by that time, caspian had already retired, leaving you two alone.
"what are you doing here?" said edmund when he stopped kissing your face, but leaving his hands on your waist while you stroked his cheeks.
"I have no idea, but I’m here! and I missed you so much that I don’t care!"
"I missed you too, with all my heart" the boy’s eyes turned to your mouth and an urge to taste your soft lips flooded him.
"do it" and he did it. what he was waiting for so long. at that time nothing didn’t matter, no war or anything. just the two of you. neither of you could put into words what you felt, but you two wanted to find out together. between kisses and caresses, you could decipher when that passionate love was born, that passion that was sealed with a reunion kiss.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 6 Easter Eggs & References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for “Scavengers.”
As Star Trek: Discovery continues to boldly go where no 23rd Century crew has gone before, the tapestry of the rest of the Trek franchise continues to get slightly redefined. In Discovery Season 3, Episode 6, “Scavengers,” a rogue mission from Burnham literally puts her and Georgiou in a scrapyard that contains a ton of old Star Trek Easter eggs, even if we only glimpse a few. Along the way, the USS Discovery gets an interesting upgrade, and more details about the Mirror Universe are teased out for the first time in a while. Plus, was that an homage to The Empire Strikes Back? Here’s every Easter egg and reference in Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 6, “Scavengers,” that we were able to catch…
USS Discovery NCC-1031-A
As Saru mentions the various retrofits and upgrades the USS Discovery has received — including detached warp nacelles — we see a few bots putting finishing touches on the outside of the hull. The registry number of the Discovery now reads NCC-1031-A. And yep, that “A” is brand new. This is a slight change from Starfleet’s older operating procedure. Back in the day, you only got a new letter on a ship’s registry if it was a new version of the ship, effectively replacing one that had been destroyed. The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A was the first onscreen version of this practice, seen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Several Classic Trek Planets on the Big Map
Just like in Episode 5, Admiral Vance’s giant holographic map includes the names of countless “known” Star Trek planets. In this brief sequence, there are almost too many to count, and most of the names are mirrored backward, because Vance is reading them from his vantage point, opposite the camera. Anyway, we caught a few classic names including:
Talos: This is an easy one. The Talos system contains Talos IV, the “first” Trek planet ever visited in the TOS pilot “The Cage” and the episode “The Menagerie.” Burnham and Spock went to Talos IV in the Discovery Season 2 episode “If Memory Serves.”
Beta Niobe: The Beta Niobe system comes from the TOS episode “All Our Yesterdays,” which featured some accidental time travel for Kirk, Spock, and Bones. Oddly, the star in the Beta Niobe system went nova in that episode, circa 2269. What’s in that “star” system now? Well, in an episode of The Animated Series — “The Counter-Clock Incident” — the remnants of the Beta Niobe supernova was a conduit to an “anti-matter universe.” This caused the TOS crew to get turned into little babies. Seems like Vance has an eye on that. Don’t want anyone else ending up “half a Rascal.”
Camus: The Camus system probably refers to the planet Camus II, which was first visited in the TOS episode “Turnabout Intruder,” otherwise known as the last regular episode of TOS, and possibly the worst Trek episode of all time. In the TNG episode “Legacy,” the Enterprise-D was supposed to go to this planet, but then got diverted.
Multi-function Badges
The crew’s new badges are now basically every famous Star Trek technology thing, rolled into one. With the holographic interface, the badges are communicators, tricorders, and personal transporters.
“I was on my way to the Bajoran exchange”
In Book’s re-recorded holographic message, he tells Burnham he was on his way to the Bajoran exchange. Does this mean Book was going to Bajor itself? Could the Bajoran exchange be on Deep Space Nine, which is 100 percent in Bajoran space? Unclear, but cool if so!
Georgiou’s flashes
Georgiou appears to be having memories of her time as Emperor of the Terran Empire in the Mirror Universe. The first time we met this version of Georgiou was in the Mirror Universe at the very end of the episode “The Wolf Inside.” Read more about Georgiou’s flashes here.
Old ships seem to be Starfleet from “The Battle at the Binary Stars”
Many of the ships in the salvage yard appear to be similar to ships we saw during the Discovery Season 1 episode, “Battle at the Binary Stars.” Could this planet be located near Gamma Hydra near the old Klingon border?
Do Tilly and Burnham still share a room?
Starting with the Season 1 episode “Context Is For Kings,” Tilly and Burnham were roommates on the USS Discovery. While this tradition seemed to be reversed in Season 2, it was later actually not clear if they were still roommates or not. In this episode, Burnham puts Grudge in Tilly’s quarters before going after Book. Tilly calls these quarters “my quarters,” but she also seemed to know Grudge was already in the room. If Tilly and Burnham still share a room, it’s clearly out of their need to chat with each other all the time. They’re certainly high-ranking enough to have their own room, right? Then again, the USS Discovery is sleek enough, with a crew of less than 200, so it’s possible there’s still not enough space for Tilly, Burnham and now, Grudge, to have separate sleeping quarters.
Self-sealing stem bolts
Burnham and Georgiou talk about needing self-sealing stem bolts. This references a commodity frequently mentioned and sought-after on Deep Space Nine.
24th-century phaser
When Georgiou mentions she wants some “pre-2400” tech, the Orion nephew of Osira shows her a late-24th-century-era phaser. This model matches the kind we saw in First Contact, Voyager, and the later seasons of Deep Space Nine. This means it is pre-2400s, but only barely. This style of phaser comes from the 2370s. This is probably why Georgiou says that it’s not what she wants because older phasers and tech would be from the early 2300s or, her time period, the 2250s.
DISCO has a new deflector dish
The pointy, TOS–style deflector dish on the USS Discovery seems to have been replaced with a smoother, flatter version. This upgrade reflects a similar upgrade with the classic Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Bucket of badges, including a Klingon badge
In the scrapyard, Burnham examines a bucket of old badges, some of which seem to be 2250s-ear Starfleet badges. But, she does pick-up one badge that is the classic Klingon Empire emblem. What are the Klingons up-to in the 32nd Century? We still don’t know!
“Since We Served Together on the Shenzhou…”
When Saru talks to Tilly about Burnham’s rogue mission, he says “I have not felt this mistrusting of her since we served on the Shenzhou…” This references the first episode of Discovery, ever, “The Vulcan Hello,” in which Burnham attempted a mutiny in order to attack the Klingons first, before the Klingons deemed Starfleet “weak.” The mutiny didn’t go too well.
Tritanium
Georgiou and Burnham pretend to be looking for Trianium in the scrap heap. This fictional ore comes from the TOS episode, “Obsession,” though it has been referenced throughout the franchise since then. Most classic starship bulkheads are made out of titanium.
The Baryon Sweep
Admiral Vance mentions that a starship that has just returned to Starfleet HQ will be treated with “The Baryon Sweep.” This references a high-tech spaceship cleaning procedure that we first saw in the TNG episode “Starship Mine.” In Picard’s day, everyone had to leave a starship during the Baryon Sweep since the Baryon particles were deadly to organic matter. “Starship Mine” was written by Morgan Gendel, arguably more famous for his other TNG episode, “The Inner Light.”
“Another Michael Burnham”
Georgiou mentions that she remembers “another Michael Burnham” trying to comfort her in a different situation. This references the Mirror version of Burnham, who we actually never met. In the Mirror Universe, the Terran Burnham betrayed Georgiou by allying herself with Lorca. In on-screen canon, we’re led to believe that Mirror Burnham is dead. But, the Star Trek: Discovery comic book miniseries, Succession paints a different picture. Everyone assumes Mirror Burnham died in the Mirror Universe, but what Succession presupposes is, maybe she didn’t? Notably, Succession was co-written by Discovery co-producer and longtime Trek writer, Kirsten Beyer.
Stamets’ connection to Adira
In this episode, Stamets and Adira form a bond over the fact that they both were in love with someone “who died.” This references the obvious fact that Dr. Cubler — Stamets’ partner — was killed in Discovery Season 1, but came back to life in Season 2.
Poorly timed Linus beam-in references Season 2 and…maybe The Empire Strikes Back?
Just as Burnham and Book are starting to get cozy in the turbolift, Linus beams-in by accident, killing the mood. This probably references Discovery Season 2, Episode 1, “Brother,” in which Linus sneezed gross green snot all over the place during a tense moment in the turbolift. But, the way the scene plays out also will remind Star Wars fans of a very famous movie kiss in The Empire Strikes Back. Just after Han Solo and Princess Leia share an intimate moment on the Millennium Falcon, C-3PO interrupts the moment, somewhat innocently. Linus killing the mood here feels very similar. Which means, maybe Discovery’s far future, and the galaxy far, far away aren’t so distant after all; at least not when it comes to romance involving cocky space smugglers and badass women, determined to restore freedom to the galaxy…
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Star Trek: Discovery is streaming now on CBS All Access.

Best Tv Shows All Time
'The Daily Show' 1996-Present
The fa-Ke information display that became mo-Re credible as opposed to news that is real. Comedy Central started The Everyday Show in 1996, but it hit its stride when Jon Stewart took over in 1999. The Everyday Present got more politically abrasive as the the headlines got worse. Stewart had the rage of a man who'd signed on in the conclusion of the Bill Clinton years, only to finish up with an America much more scary and more ugly for, as well as the anger showed. "It's a comic box lined with unhappiness," he informed Rolling Stone in 2006. While the franchise struggles on without him, Samantha Bee and Daily alumni John Oliver keep that hard-hitting spirit alive on their shows.
youtube
'The Office (U.K.)' 2001 03
Ricky Gervais created one of TV's most agonizing comic tyrants in David Brent – a bitter, awkward, pompous ball of vanities terrorizing his workers at a London paper company. He fidgets, fondles his tie, cracks awful jokes, plays guitar ("Free Love Freeway"!), invisible to anyone except the longsuffering office drones who need to put up with him. This mockumentary raised the cringe level of sitcoms everywhere, spawning the surprisingly fantastic U.S. version (also on this checklist) while paving the way for the glories of Parks & Re-Creation and Peepshow.

'Sesame Street' 1969-Present
No kiddie present has ever been as fiercely beloved as this urban utopian fantasy, emerge a brownstone neighborhood populated by a multi racial cast of smiling adults, a gigantic yellow chicken, a grouch in a garbage can, and z/n-loving vampires, plus many talking letters and figures. It's great songs, but most important, Sesame h-AS soul, which can be why the air h-AS stayed sweet for 40 years – or as the Count would say, 4-5! 46! 47 years!

'The Sopranos' 1999 2007
The crime saga that slice the the history of TV kicking off a golden age when abruptly something seemed possible. With all The Sopranos, David Chase smashed all the rules about just how much you could get away with on the little screen. And he created an immortal American antihero in James Gandolfini's Nj Mob boss, Tony Soprano over a crew of gangsters who double as damaged husbands and dads, men seeking to live using their murderous secrets and dark memories. As the late, great Gandolfini told Rolling Stone in 2001, "I noticed David Chase say one time that it is about people who lie to themselves, as we all do. Lying to ourselves on a daily basis as well as the mess it creates." What an inspiring mess it is. This particular poll was run away with by the Sopranos as the planet was altered by it. Chase showed how much story telling ambition tv could be brought to by you, and it didn't take long for everybody else to to go up to his problem. The breakthroughs of the next few years – The Wire, Mad Guys, Breaking Bad – could not have happened without The Sopranos kicking the door down. But Chase had a tough time convincing any community to take on a story of a guilt- while his mom plots to destroy him, gangster who goes to therapy. "We'd no idea this show would appeal to folks," he told Rolling Stone. "The show really unexpectedly made this type of splash that it screwed all of US up." The Sopranos stored heading having a wild mix of humor and blood shed for the long bomb over six masterful seasons on HBO. When FBI agents tell Uncle Junior which mobsters they want him to finger, he says using a shrug, "I want to fuck Angie Dickinson – let us see who gets lucky first." The Sopranos is full of damaged characters who linger on in the long term parking of our national imagination – Edie Falco's Carmela, Dominic Chianese's Junior, Michael Imperioli's Christopher, Tony Sirico's Paulie Walnuts. E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt became Tony's lieutenant Silvio – Chase spotted him on early Bruce Springsteen album addresses. (As Chase told Rolling Stone, "There was something about the E Street Band that looked the same as a crew.") It might not have been possible without Gandolfini's slow-burning intensity – he was the only actor who could deliver Tony's angst to life. But the writing, directing and acting went locations Television had never attained before. The Sopranos arguably hit its imaginative peak with all the well-known Pine Barrens episode, where Christopher and Paulie Walnuts wander away in the woods, realizing the gangster they tried to whack is still out there-in the darkness. They shiver in the cold. ("It is the the fuckin' Yukon out there!") They wait. And worry. The Sopranos never solved this mystery – for all we know, the Russian is nonetheless atlarge, however another key these guys can't shake off. In the streets, family loyalties flip, both on The Sopranos and a-T home. Beloved characters can get whacked at any given moment. It stored that perception of risk alive proper up to the ultimate seconds. And not quite a decade after it faded to black in a Jersey diner together with the juke-box playing "Do Not Cease Believin'," The Sopranos stays the standard all ambitious TV aspires to meet.

'Friday Night Lights' 200611
"Obvious eyes, total hearts, cannot drop" is the golden-rule in a dusty Texas town where everybody else lives and dies for the large college football team. But Friday Night Lights isn't truly about football s O much as family, perform, class, the bitter flavor of dashed goals, with Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor, Connie Britton as wife Tami and Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins – the most most notable of the many vulnerable kids who go through the Panthers' locker room. Riggins' tale becomes particularly moving after his grid iron glory fades and genuine existence beats him down.

'Star Trek' 196669
The Starship Business took off using a five-year mission: "To explore unusual new worlds, to to locate new life and new civilizations," and it succeeded in making the most beloved of sci fi franchises, maybe not just inspiring numerous spin-offs but also codifying fan fiction as a creative art form. Gene Roddenberry's original sequence stays the the inspiration, with William Shatner's awesomely pulpy Capt. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy's logical Mr. Spock, Bones, Sulu, Uhura and Scotty. They make contact with strange and inexplicable lifeforms – Romulans, Gorns, Joan Collins. During its three years, Star Trek suffered from low ratings till NBC pulled the plug, but thanks to the most doggedly faithful of Television cults (re-member when "Trekkie" was an insult?), Roddenberry's vision lives long and prospers to this day.

'Mad Men' 200715
The American desire and how exactly to sell it – aside from Don Draper as well as the hustlers of Sterling Cooper, selling is the American dream. Mad Men became a sensation as soon as it appeared, partly due to the glam surface – a New York advert agency in the JFK period, all sex and money and liquor and cigarettes – but mostly as it was an audaciously adult drama which wasn't about cops or robbers (or medical practioners or lawyers), staking out new story-telling territory. Jon Hamm's womanizing ad man, Don, is a genius a-T shaping other people's goals and fantasies, but he can not e-Scape his own loneliness – he's a con-man who stole the identification of a lifeless Korean War officer and constructed a new life out of lies. "A good marketing individual is like an artist, channeling the lifestyle," creator Matthew Weiner told Rolling Stone. "They're supporting a mirror saying, 'This is the way you desire you were. That is the thing you're scared of.'" A room can be reduced by Don to tears although the content family memories he is attempting to sell are a fraud. There was nothing on TV as seductive as Mad Men before – and years later, there still isn't.

'Deadwood' 200406
Al Swearengen's moral philosophy: "you-can't cut the throat of every cock-sucker whose character it would improve." Spoken just like a Founding Father that is true. He is the villain of David Milch's epic Western set in the mud and slime of an 1870s South Dakota gold-mining c AMP. In the middle of it all (i.e., the saloon), Ian McShane's Al glowers, pours drinks, counts money and slices jugulars, in a frontier hell-hole total of prospectors, whores, drunks and dropped freaks looking for one last fatal battle to get in to (and often discovering it a T Al's place). It was like McCabe & Mrs. Miller with mo Re depressing sex scenes. The first two seasons are solid gold, the third, flimsier, but Deadwood is about how communities get built – and every one of the dirty work that requires.

Third Watch TV Show
'Cheers' 1982 93
You require a spot where everyone knows your title – even if it's just a dive bar in Boston full of regulars with no place else to go. Cheers started with a focus on the mismatched romantic banter between Ted Danson's washedup Red-Sox pitcher Sam and Shelley Long's up-tight book-worm Diane. ("Over my dead body!" "Hey, don't b-ring last evening in to this.") By attracting new blood like Kelsey Grammar, Kirstie Alley and Woody Harrelson, but it regularly renewed it self. Cheers was to the purpose where you could tune in to see which regulars would hang tonight.

A Dear Evan Hansen Star Trek AU
If only I had the time/energy to write the story in which everyone from Dear Evan Hansen lives in the Star Trek original series universe. Oh well--here are some thoughts about what it would look like, though.
Highlights: A Connor from the Mirror Universe shows up on the Enterprise, much to the surprise of Ensign Hansen. Mirror Connor is very like Evan, and in his universe, he dealt with the after effects of Evan’s suicide. Relationships are repaired. Connor and Evan eventually date. I just like Star Trek a lot.
Connor killed himself in their last year of Starfleet Academy. On an away mission, he turned his phaser up to maximum—all they found was a padd with the letter. The Connor project and all proceeded pretty similarly from there. At the end of the musical, the DEH team (Ensigns Evan, Zoe, Jared, and Alana) are all transferred to the Starship Enterprise, serving under Captain Kirk. Bones makes sure Evan is getting and taking his meds. Alana is making new friends, better friends. Jared is the only one of the old team who talks to Evan, and even then, only occasionally. Evan is in linguistics and dabbles in biology (writing mostly, but he loves those alien trees), Zoe is on the command track, Alana is in engineering, and Jared is in the sciences. During the context of episode “Mirror, Mirror” a mirror universe security crewman beams to the real Enterprise but is left behind when his fellow mirror crewman are beamed home. He’s kept in the brig, and Ensign Hansen is summoned to take custody of him—the crewman is Mirror Ensign Connor Murphy. Mirror Connor is very similar to Evan—he’s taking the same meds, he talks and walks the same way that Evan does, and he dealt with the suicide of Mirror Evan (jumping out of a tree on an away mission) in a similar way that Evan did, only he and Mirror Evan actually were friends. They did email frequently, and they were very close, but Connor mishandled the situation until everything was crazy and he had no friends again. Mirror Connor has been abused by both his family and the Mirror Enterprise crew, and he appears covered in bruises. Mirror Zoe was always doing drugs, and she often tried to break into his room to shout at him or threaten to kill him. Evan takes custody of Mirror Connor, who wants to join the crew officially. They room together, and grow to be very close friends. Zoe meets Mirror Connor for the first time. At first, she’s angry at him, and she glares at him and doesn’t speak, but she realizes quickly that he is afraid of her. It takes her a while, but she conquers her hatred of her brother long enough to talk to the Mirror Connor. She figures out before he does that they had opposite experiences, and tries to get to know him. It takes her a while to realize that standing over him is threatening, so most of their conversations are spent eating ice cream in the cafeteria together until they grow close. Jared tries to avoid Mirror Connor until the stories get back around to him that Mirror Connor isn’t the same as their Connor. He’s the first to notice that Mirror Connor is developing a crush on Evan, and he gets caught up in that enough to start hanging out with Evan more frequently. Alana never gets to know Mirror Connor. She talks to him once or twice, but they remain acquaintances. She’s dating her best friend in engineering, and she’s quickly rising in the ranks, impressing Scotty. Mirror Connor gets a crush on Evan before Evan reciprocates. Connor never says anything about it, because how could Evan ever like someone who brought him so much pain? Even is that wasn’t Mirror Connor, that was someone else…but still. Connor would never bring it up. It would ruin their friendship. Evan and Connor visit a holodeck program (yes, I know it’s out of canon) and recreate the orchard together. Connor doesn’t want to at first, because he remembers that spot as the place Evan killed himself, but eventually, they write the program together. They often go there to hang out. It’s while watching Connor climb a tree, laughing for the first time in a while, hair blowing wildly behind him, that Evan realizes he likes Connor. Like that. Neither of them says anything for weeks, because they’re too shy and they think the other only wants to be friends. Eventually, it’s Zoe who gets them together. She makes them both sit down, tells them that they both like each other, and stands there with her arms crossed until they talk about it. She smiles and walks away and they continue to talk all night, long past the time everyone else has gone to bed. Connor goes through therapy because of the experiences he had in the Mirror Universe. Evan and he are now officially out and dating, and the crew is overjoyed. At the coming-out party that Jared insisted on, Zoe notices the Captain and Spock giving each other meaningful glances before ducking out early. Evan publishes a fiction story about trees and what their Starfleet Academy lives might have been like if they’d known each other sooner. Evan goes on to write more and more, and he loves it. He still can’t believe people like his work and want to read it, but Connor keeps telling him that he’s the best author Connor’s ever read so Evan starts to believe in himself a little more. Evan gives Connor the list of the dead Connor’s favorite books. Some of them did not exist in the Mirror Universe. Connor is fascinated and reads all of them. Evan reads them too, and they talk about their favorite books and music. They cuddle. Every night. They were living together before thy started dating so they saw no reason to change that. Bones says physical affection releases oxytocin and improves mental health. (It does.) He orders them to hold hands and cuddle as often as possible, you know, for health reasons.
