Hello, I'm not sure if you're aware, but tumblr is going to start helping midjourney gather data for their AI. You're one of the artists I follow here pretty actively and I wanted to warn you to maybe start nighshading your art before posting it here so it doesn't get swept up!

I've seen a couple of posts about it. Feeling disappointed but not that surprised. Also not excited about having to start nightshading/glazing my pieces but if there isn't going to be any serious regulations regarding data scraping and ai "art", there aren't a lot of choices.

Thank you for taking the time to warn me just in case, it was very thoughtful of you!

#from what I've seen the effectiveness of nightshade/glaze has been debated and I don't even pretend to understand how it works #but like watermarks it's at least some kind of preventive measure a token effort to stop your art from being stolen and misused #but I fear that if someone is determined to do it anyway chances are they will find a way unfortunately #this shouldn't be the reality of trying to share art online #it's a pretty dismal situation when this responsibility falls on the artists themselves #I've been here since 2011 I've lived through multiple tumblr apocalypses I'm not leaving unless they make this place wholly unlivable #and I don't think there are truly good alternatives with similar sense of community and as varied posting and customization options #it seems like every other major social media platform is doing this exact same thing if not worse #answered #ohdeergood #I'm tired we're all tired of this

Forgiveness

@bachaboska 's lacho trailers are living rent free in my mind :)

So here is what this unfinished one inspired me!

Lalo stepped from behind the tiny abandoned house he knew so well. So many cold bodies laid under the dust. But he wouldn't let the only one he cared for join the other souls.

He fired, as soon as Gus Fring crossed his vision, and the man behind this whole mess fell to the ground, a bullet through his head. Guns were out the next half second. Two pointing at Lalo. Three at Victor and Tyrus.

"Leave." Lalo's voice left no place for negotiation.

The two men, faces tense, climbed back into their vehicle and left in a cloud of dust. Lalo finally looked down at the man still kneeling before Bolsa. Nacho was looking back at him over his shoulder. His stunning brown eyes were wide opened. His beautiful face stained with dried blood. What a shame.

"No deberías haber hecho esto." You shouldn't have done this

Lalo looked at Bolsa, and couldn't be any less bothered by who's body it was, laying in the dust. This life was done for. There was nothing to change what happened. Lalo would have killed him sooner or later, he was sure of it. Bolsa stomped away, getting his phone out, cooking a fake explanation to give Eladio to cover his ass.

Lalo's attention briefly flied to his cousins and his tío. He exchanged a long look with Hector, who's eyes were still glaring daggers. He wanted the kneeling man to die too.

Lalo approached Nacho. He was breathing fast, shallow, eyelashes fluttering imperceptibly as not a single word seemed to pass his lips. Lalo wasn't really expecting any. He didn't need any. He could read his other half like an open book right this instant. The shock, fear and guiltiness.

Crouching behind him, Lalo freed Nacho, noticing the fresh blood on his fingers a second too late. Nacho had already brought his hands before him, his shoulders hunched forward. Lalo looked over him to see the younger man looking down at his bloody hand, a piece of glass cutting his skin as he kept squeezing it.

Lalo went to his feet, and gathered Nacho's arms to pull him backward, his other hand guiding the precious head of his lover against his shoulder. This brilliant mind he loved so dearly. He cradled him tenderly, fingers stroking his shirt and his head, as Nacho's breath hitched as he tried to contain obvious sobs.

"Esta bien, Nachito." Lalo murmured in his ear "Yo te perdono, mi amor. Te perdono."

Still hidden on top of a rock, Mike looked through his lenses as Nacho let go of the bloody piece of glass, and even with the distance the tears shining in his eyes were visible. Mike sighed, pulling away from the edge, collecting his weapon. He had hoped of a better future for this lad. But he knew the next time Death will be on its way to gather the poor soul, he wouldn't be alone.

I cannot get over how much of a silly little guy by scanner is. Turn him on, can't find connection. Set him on a nice little flat surface, he hums. Cannot find connection. Cradle him in my lap, feel him rumble like a cat as he scans, action complete.

He has anxiety and wants to be held.

Then I had to adjust the colors for an hour cause my boy is color blind.

okay with The Bullshit inevitably going through here are what i believe to be the ideal settings to mitigate fueling it in a way that's realistic. from what i've read glaze & nightshade aren't actually very effective & require insane computer specs just to put a shittification filter on your art that can literally be broken by resizing it so i don't think i'm gonna bother with it. i think the fact that these settings exist at all is at the very least a good sign that staff doesn't want this shit either, and the opt-in default is likely a result of a contract or something. i'm not an expert on this by ANY means so please please look into it yourselves, but this is what i think would be helpful for me at least

ai is just so fucking bleak man it makes me want to end it all...

taking everything joyful about life... everything i ever wanted or loved or hoped for... and not just that, everything else too... no job is safe... the only way i can go on is to pretend it doesnt exist and just keep creating and trying as we always have done it haha but meanwhile it just keeps getting worse and im filled with sickening dread... the only hope I have is that people will continue to stick together and protect each other even as ai tries to destroy and take everything from us and our identity and our joy sorry to sound poetic and pretentious but i just need to get the vent out. its bleak man.

It works tho! It'll be easier to apply epoxy clay and fix up the areas that aren't connected

Pot doesn't fit so I'm thinking about giving him a garden orb

S o o o...recent developments on tumblr are VERY concerning. It isn't that all of this data-collecting/selling wasn't concerning before - just that a lot of it seemed so minor and just in the background for years. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

But NOW with it being so blatant and mixed with training AI, this is getting ridiculous. Even on deviantArt all of this AI business is spreading; it's been blowing up everywhere for ALL the wrong reasons, and I'm worried.

tumblr and @staff, you had a reeeeally nice thing going for a while, despite some hiccups from the past. You had an opportunity when people were migrating from the whole Twitter explosion...and instead of keeping with your unique layout and features that attracted people here in the first place, you decide to try to be like all the others. Disappointing.

Despite all of this, I'm not going anywhere. Hopefully this has enough backlash to matter somewhere. I have too much built up here to just leave, so...in the meantime, Nightshade and Glaze your art and posts. Opt-out of the third party sharing.

I still have my deviantArt page if anyone's interested...and oddly enough, I also have a Fur Affinity page. Don't judge me.
