hold me like water or christ, hold me like a knife
[Image ID: A two panel digital illustration for Golden Kamuy. The illustration features lyrics from Hozier's "Who We Are" and are as follows: "Hold me like water / Or Christ, hold me like a knife." The first panel shows Chiyo from the waist up cupping water in her hands. The wind is blowing her curly hair, and some of the water is slipping through the cracks of her fingers. She has a smile on her face. The second panel shows a front facing Tsurumi. His head is tilted to one side with a devilish grin. He is casually holding up a knife with one hand, and Tsukishima is visible in the reflection. Tsurumi's eyes are hidden, and brain fluid is leaking from beneath his headplate. End ID.]

Reminder that this is coming up to air in Tokyo Revengers:
Tumblr media
Reminder that this is how this shounen takes the leap and puts a LGBT storyline between two prominent, main-cast characters on screen. A messy storyline about overcoming confusion, letting go of old attachments and facing new feelings that remains relevant through to the end of the story, worked out as any other plot point. Not implied, but expressed in in-story written word and unambiguous visuals.
Again: in a shounen anime.
In a mainstream, dudes-punching-dudes anime series that airs on TV.
Regardless of whether one enjoys Koko and Inui as characters in particular, or the ship in itself, the fact that this happens / is able to happen (god, I hope it's not censored out) is important.
I can't stress enough how rare these things are.
I'm nervous, not gonna lie, these things hardly ever make it on-screen for reasons, but at the same time I trust Liden Films and how much care and respect they've put into Tokyo Revengers so far. Can't wait to see how it goes.

Oh for the people following me, I would like to let you know that I do not agree with any canon interpretation that implies that Hajime and Izuru are separate people or two minds in one body. Headcanons are fine, that’s harmless and amusing to see played out.
I’m just never on bored with anyone saying that they’d make the most sense as a system or anything along those lines. I know that was popularized in 2021, I was a first hand witness to the growth, but trust when I say that completely contradicts chapter 6.
It’s more than “they’re the same person” if we really want to dissect this more, but also yeah, it’s the same damn person. We refer to them differently because Izuru does not resemble Hajime at all, so it doesn’t make sense to call him Hajime. We also do not know he is Hajime because that’s a spoiler, if you forget that you’re not supposed to know until the last chapter.
However, Hajime is Izuru Kamukura, that’s just not his name. His rebuttal towards Junko is different than the one he does before his confrontation with himself (“Izuru”) because he’s not rejecting himself anymore, he’s rejecting the name that isn’t even his to begin with. He’s rejecting the name that was given to him not as a way to individualize himself, but to tie him to hpa’s cause. There’s no reason for him to identity with that name anymore.
You’re welcome to confront me on this or reply, but genuinely I do not think it is a good idea to keep perpetuating the concept that them not being each other is a valid interpretation. As I said in the beginning, you’re welcome to have your fun but it’s not true. Why on earth would anyone look at Hajime’s arc, take scenes out of context, and then think they’re making anywhere near a valid point?
I don’t want to sound mean, but it does fucking invalidate Hajime’s arc and identity issues that you guys so clearly understand. Right. I’m ecstatic that the conversation around Hajime was reduced to this. It’s insane to me you guys can take Junko and Ryoko being the same person at face value, but not this?? It’s literally the same situation.
(Emphasis on canon interpretation because I’d be happy to review trial 6 to make my point)

sorry if you explained this already and I didn't see but why in your profile background or whatever it's called, Hajime is so far away from everyone else?? Like, everyone is close and cuddling and he's just away from everyone else 😭
Alluding to the general feeling of not belonging yet and also the Horrors

ngl i find it pretty cute that Truth Bullets are actually just hajime’s inner notepad, so when he “adds it to the handbook,” he’s technically just keeping that piece of evidence in the back of his mind.
…and of course i gotta bring komahina into it aND I JUST THINK ITS CUTE OKAY—
Tumblr media
after the betrayal thing too i think it’s pretty adorable that hajime still takes nagito seriously even though most people don’t.
(for those of you who MIGHT be wondering, this takes place during the Ibuki/Hiyoko case investigation where hajime was gonna overlook (??) the rope but then nagito came in and BOOM, hajime is suddenly a believer)

Analysis of Yuma's Design ①
Tumblr media
I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I think Yuma's hairstyle is similar to the earliest design ideas for Hajime (the protagonist of SDR2) and Shuichi (the protagonist of NDRV3).
Hajime had a bob cut in the earliest design. According to Rui Komatsuzaki's comment in the official art book (ダンガンロンパ1・2 Reload 超高校級の設定資料集 -再装填-), he suggested this because he wanted to create a bobbed protagonist. He also commented in the book, "I hope to realise a character design that is cool even with a bob cut (おかっぱでもかっこいい、というキャラクターデザインは、いつか実現したいと思っています)", so I think that Yuma's bob hairstyle is based on Komatsuzaki's hope.
Shuichi's ahoge was thick and curly in the earliest design. This is very similar to Yuma's ahoge design. It seems that it was decided from the beginning that Shuichi would wear a hat when he first appeared, and several hat design ideas were included, one of which is very similar to Yuma's hat. (That's what I drew in my illustration.)
In fact, Komatsuzaki often diverts design ideas he had for different characters. For example, the hood design of Chiaki's cardigan (the character from SDR2) was diverted from the hood originally designed as Nagito's coat (personally, I don't think they're that similar, but Komatsuzaki himself said so in the art book). So I think these are not coincidences, but the result of him hoping to realise the ideas he could not realise in the past.
What I'm trying to say is that even though Danganronpa and RAIN CODE are completely different worlds, what the developers had in mind when making the Danganronpa series seems to be reflected in RAIN CODE, and the characters seem to be somewhat related in that way :)

my genius expands. what if after the game, the survivors recreated chiaki's hoodie for hajime?
like a little gift from all of them. bc they know how important chiaki was to him. they'd all gather the materials and the design, and sonia would sew it and all, and when they give it to him, haj just kinda . waddles to his room, curled up in a ball just holding onto it. and he never takes it off after
