> a short preview of my upcoming yandere!childe x reader fic titled bad alive
> because i don't have any finished works at the moment, here's a short teaser of (one of many) a wip featuring childe which hopefully i will finish soon lol
you first met childe when he was just ajax. when he lived in the little village in snezhnaya, fishing and playing with his siblings. you remember when he would bring you freshly picked sweet flowers from his fishing trips, knocking on your front door and hiding them behind his back before saying: “surprise! i picked these for you! they reminded me of you.”
you always thought he was so sweet and innocent back then, with big blue eyes that were curious about the world around him and brimming with so much energy, he didn’t want to stay in one place—and maybe that’s why he left your little village, to go exploring on his own, making his eventual descent into the depths of the abyss.
well, even now, you still believe some of those traits of his remain true. even when his eyes no longer turn bright and curious but instead flashes dangerous and cold, you still held a sliver of hope that somewhere he’s the same ajax you once knew when you were kids.
you held onto that sliver of hope right into the very end.
the next time you met ajax, he wasn’t known as ajax, rather he was dubbed tartaglia, or childe, his epithet the 11th harbinger of the fatui. he was known to be a man always hungry for battle. and you were just starting off as a new fatui member.
he had a look of surprise when he recognized your face amongst the group of new fatui recruits. your gaze never left him when you spotted him with the other harbingers and there was something in his eyes that you couldn’t quite name (until much later) when he saw you.
you thought your reunion would be a joyous one, somewhat at least. but when he grabbed your hand, leading you away from the other recruits, you knew it wouldn’t be.
he fussed at you, scolded you, and questioned why, just why would you willingly choose to become a fatui agent. (ironic too, when you were kids, you were the one scolding him for being too reckless). you didn’t tell him you wanted to see him. you didn’t tell him it was follow him, to be with him. no, you didn’t tell him the truth of your ambitions.
after all those years, a confession between childhood friends dangled in time and space, like a dud firework frozen in the air, never exploding but never hitting the ground either.
an anticipation weighed heavily on the shoulders of two could be lovers.
you knew being a member of the fatui would be dangerous and even difficult. you prepared yourself. you taught yourself martial arts and sword fighting, working yourself to the bone and training night after night, day after day; sometimes you’d find yourself asleep in the forest, not knowing how you fell asleep in the first place. but you would pick yourself up and continue on. continuing and continuing so tenaciously like this, one day you found in your hands, a vision.
a gift from the archons. you took that as your sign to keep on with your ambitions. with a vision, you felt as if you were finally allowed to see him.
