Meeting and Dating Henry Creedlow
Tumblr media
(My gif/it’s really hard to find clips of this movie)(requested by anonymous)
(Sorry for the long wait!)
- You met Henry while working at the Bruiser magazine company. You didn't exactly work “together” but you worked in the same building and sometimes on the same tasks at different times. Often, the only times you actually saw him were during company meetings and the little breaks you had before and after them, or during lunch.
- Part of you pitied him from the moment you met him. He was walked all over and ignored for... well, no reason at all. You rooted for him any moment you could and yet he could never prevail. Maybe that was why you tried to be as nice as you could to him.
- And your kindness didn't go unnoticed. Sometimes talking to you about pointless things for two minutes was the highlight of his day. You were pretty much the only person he could stand to be around and really looked forward to seeing everyday.
- Soon those feelings of admiration and respect morphed into something beyond what he intended. He grew to develop feelings for you, real romantic feelings that had him yearning for you every time you graced his eyes.
- Yet nothing ever happened between you two since he was married, granted it was to a cheating bitch but still, married nonetheless.
- Then came that fateful day when his world and your own was turned upside down. You spent half the day glued to a television screen and your telephone to listen to the news of everything that was happening. You couldn't believe it and yet you had to. Because later that day you’d meet your former coworker face to face and see for yourself everything that had happened.
- It was late in the evening, you were getting ready for your bosses awful costume party when all of a sudden there was a knock at your window. At first you figured it was a bird or branch but when it persisted and grew what could only be considered frantic you hesitantly decided you needed to check it out.
- You grabbed a shoe for self defense and made your way to the window. When you pulled back the curtain there was nothing. Growing more confident, you opened the window... and shrieked as a figure popped into view.
- You threw the shoe in your hand at it and moved back to grab whatever else you could find before you recognized the familiar chuckle and voice.
“A shoe? Really? You really are too good for this shitty town y/n.” You slowly made your way over as he crawled in through your open window.
- You couldn’t keep your eyes off the “mask” on his face and he took notice, explaining everything that had happened and why he was there. He needed your help but more than anything else he wanted you to go away with him once he’d completed what he set out to do.
- It took you a few minutes to decide what you wanted to do. He knew he was asking for a lot but he held on hope... and for good reason because after a deep breath you agreed.
- After helping him evade the police one last time, the two of you were on your way to a new town, ready to start a new life together.
- The two of you shared your first kiss a few days later. You were both sat in the darkness of your hotel room, the moon peeking through the curtains providing you with a faint light. It was late but neither of you were all that tired, instead you were thinking about all that had happened and what was going to happen.
“I’m so glad that you came with me.” He interrupted the silence and you smiled at him warmly.
“I’d follow you anywhere.” You said softly.
- The both of you watched each other for a long moment before he rose, walking over to where you were sitting and taking your face in his hands. Your eyes closed as his face neared yours, his lips brushing against your own before finally claiming them.
- Fate sealed by a kiss. You weren’t going to turn back now and you certainly didn’t want to.
- We can all agree that the hippie/stoner thing was not a good look for him. You persuade him to go for better, much more flattering disguise.
- He’s a fan of getting and giving nicknames. It makes him feel important when you call him something sweet or special.
- Innocent pda. He doesn't care for full blown making out in public but he likes quick kisses, hand holding, and having his arm around you.
- He gives a lot of compliments, ones that every woman dreams of hearing.
“I see a beautiful woman with great value.”
- I feel like even though Henry’s gone through a lot he hasn’t really changed too much? Like he’s still kinda awkward and sweet and a romantic at heart.
- The two of you have a lot of long conversations about nothing in particular. You usually jump from topic to topic, oftentimes pointless ones. He really just loves being able to talk to someone no matter what it is he’s talking about.
- Watching him exercise in the morning and struggling not to pull him back into bed with you.
- Getting kisses blown at you. What else can I say, he’s an adorable man.
- He likes pressing his forehead against yours after he kisses you or while you’re dancing together in your kitchen.
- Remembering things for him, whether it be where he last left his keys or a meeting he’d forgotten about.
- Even though he has a dodgy memory he never forgets your birthday or anniversary, they’re just too important to him.
- He loves listening to your stories and the hearing about your interests. He never gets tired of learning things about you.
- You’re the only person he lets himself be a pushover for. He doesn’t mind giving into you just to see the smile on your face.
- Wearing his dress shirts. You make it very hard for him to focus on anything else whenever you do.
- The two of you have movie marathons almost every week. You never fail to fall asleep halfway through one of them and always feel kinda bad for snoozing on him. But he doesn’t mind, he likes carrying you to bed; it’s a strange comfort of his.
- He prefers quiet evenings with you rather than any party or event. Dates are usually at a nice restaurant or some place where the two of you can relax or have a little innocent fun.
- He kind of lets you do whatever you want to him as long as it’s harmless. Want to put makeup on him? A face mask? Paint his nails? Whatever makes you happy darling.
- Praising him any chance you get because he damn well deserves it. He always gives you this shy smile when you do and tries to humbly brush off your compliments as he blushes.
- Sometimes he likes to pull you close and recite different rhymes or poems to you as you relax against him.
- The way you cuddle depends on you. He isn’t particular, he’s just happy to have you near him.
- Being woken up to him whispering your name and pressing kisses to your skin.
- Giving him rides to work, you both enjoy having the company during your tiresome commutes.
- Stopping him from listening to those awful radio shows in the morning.
- Recording an answering machine message together.
- Shoulder kisses while he hugs you from behind.
- Sitting on his lap.
- He’s a little clingy. He just really loves being around and touching you.
- He’s never afraid to tell you he loves you but other than that he struggles to put into words how much you men to him. Oftentimes he’ll settle on how “he cant live without you” or how you’re “the best thing that’s ever happened to him”.
- I feel like he tries to hide it for as long as he can whenever he gets sick or hurt. You usually notice it yourself pretty quickly and force him to let you take care of him. He has to admit that it feels nice having someone fuss over and care about him.
- Kinda likes being called sir...and being begged.
- Hand kisses.
- He’s probably stolen your sunglasses more than once.
- He likes surprising you with gifts, anything from flowers to a diamond necklace.
- He always tries to help you with whatever he can no matter how big or how small.
- He’s extremely protective of you, the very thought of losing you or having you hurt tears him apart. Remember that he’s capable of murder, depending on the situation... things may get messy.
- Learning to like, or ignore, the taste of blood.
- Sometimes listening to his morbid stories and the things he thinks about. He doesn’t tell you about them often but occasionally you’ll get a glimpse inside his head.
- Henry is definitely a jealous guy. He doesn’t like any guy coming near or even looking at you unless there’s an actual reason for it. He thinks the worst of people and doesn’t them around you. He’ll interject and lead you away from them unless they’re family or what he deems harmless.
- For the most part, he trusts you... but he also trusted Janine and she cheated on him. It may take him a little while to fully believe that you would never do the same, just don’t take it personally.
- Fights never really escalate beyond the bickering stage and are usually about more serious topics so they happen rarely. Often times the two of you have a short argument that’s resolved just as quickly as it began.
- Trying your best to make him a little less pessimistic. He admits that you brighten up his day when things go sour.
- He always tries his best to comfort you when you’re stressed or upset. He hates seeing you anything but happy because he thinks that’s what you deserve to be for the rest of your life, perfectly content.
- Supporting each other through thick and thin. He’s always there for you no matter what and you make sure to return the favor.
- Henry’s a smart guy so I feel like he wouldn't have trouble getting a pretty good job once he’s able to sort out his new life and forge some documents, especially if you decide to settle into a small town together.
- He’s happy to create new memories with you and forget about the past.
- The world may be an awful place but he’s happy to have found the one good person within it.

A Spoonful of Poison Makes the Brains Go Down || Nadia? and Remmy
TIMING: Current  LOCATION: Remmy and Lydia’s House PARTIES: @humanmoodring and @whatsin-yourhead SUMMARY: Before heading to Pat’s Place, Nadia needs to make sure that Remmy eats. Drug Manipulation TW
Tommy’s instructions had been pretty clear: Nadia was to poison one Remmington McAllister for blowing up a The Ring, which was apparently the monster fighting ring that Kaden had mentioned. Small fucking town. Now, as cute as she thought Remmy was, Nadia had no trouble at all poisoning them for the amount of money she was getting paid. There’d always be cute zombies out there. Maybe more than there should be, really. She walked up to the house, remembering it vividly from her stay there when she’d fallen out the window, and knocked on the door, the vial of infector mortis in her button up pocket.
Tonight was going to be good, Remmy had decided. No moping, no bad thoughts-- just them and Nadia and a room full of people. And fun. They could do this. It’d been a few weeks since the Ring had blown up, and nothing had happened. They were going to be fine. And it was time to get back to normal life. Or, as normal a life as they could have, being a zombie. When the knock on the door came, Remmy gave one last glance into the mirror-- they’d opted to go for a more casual look, but still nice. A good button up, a cardigan, some nice jeans. They’d even done up their hair. They pulled the door open to greet Nadia, smiling. “Hey! You made it!”
“I’d hope so. After all, this was my idea, cutie,” Nadia teased, looking forward to Remmy’s reaction. Teasing them was too damn fun, and it was a shame she wouldn’t be able to do it any more after all this, but this wasn’t on Nadia. She wasn’t the person that wanted Remmy dead. All she was doing was being the messenger. “So, they don’t open for a bit, and I can’t imagine you’re gonna like the taste of the fine Americana food they’re going to have, so if you want to grab something before we go, and then maybe we can go on a walk or a ride or something.” She glanced back at where her motorcycle was parked near the street. “Do you like motorcycles?”
Remmy would have blushed had they could’ve and they gave a sheepish smile, choking on their words for a moment. “It’s, I mean, like-- yeah. Of course! Yeah,” they stuttered, before stepping aside and motioning for her to come in. “Oh, uh, yeah! Yeah. A snack, I should-- definitely. Eat first, yeah. Uh, do you want a drink? I can get you something,” they offered, heading into the kitchen. They’d told Lydia about their date tonight and she’d let them have the house for the evening. “Motorcycles? Can’t um-- can’t say I’ve ever ridden on one, actually. They had weird little like...scooters that we got to ride around on at base camp, but that’s definitely not the same thing.”
Laughing, Nadia followed them into the house, at ease in the space and with the company. For all their undead might, Remmy, she was sure, was harmless. “Yeah, I’ll take a water, if that’s alright. Don’t want to get too boozy and then have to drive. Ever ridden a bike tipsy? Not fun, and even less so when you add a few hundred pounds and make it motorized.” Her first body, may it rot in peace, had survived only one drunk motorcycle accident before Nadia had said never again. She hadn’t made that mistake in this one. This one was far too important. She watched Remmy piddle around the kitchen. “Base camp? Like, military?”
Once in the kitchen, Remmy pulled down two glasses and filled them with water, setting one on the counter for Nadia before heading to the fridge to pull out their container of brain. Lydia always made sure there was a fresh one for them in the house, and they’d already diced this one up and spruced it to look a little less...brainy. They set it on the counter and looked up at Nadia. “I have, actually. Back in high school. We actually made games out of drink bike riding. There uh-- wasn’t a lot to do for fun in the small town I grew up in.” They propped the container open and scooped out a few pieces, before reaching across the counter for a treat and handing it to Moose. “Oh, uh, yeah. Military. I served for a while. Was recently discharged, though, for uh...medical reason.” Gave Nadia a shallow smile, hoping to breeze past the topic. “What kind of motorcycle do you have?”
Everything had to be calculated, Nadia decided as she watched Remmy pull the container of brains out of the fridge. She didn’t trust just poisoning the water, didn’t know if infector mortis had a particular flavor. She wasn’t a poisoner; she was a thief, a con artist, occasionally a demolitions expert, but she didn’t really poison people. Whatever. “That sounds like teenage shenanigans anywhere, not just a small town.” She brushed her hand against the pocket, maneuvered the vial out, and reached to scratch her shoulder, the tiny vial hidden in her palm. “I grew up in a city, and, uh, we still pulled that shit pretty often.” The second Remmy turned to give the dog a treat, Nadia reached to grab her water and poured the contents of the vial in the brain mixture. But… not all of it. A part of her head told her hand that there was plenty of the poison in the food even with the vial not completely emptied, and she decided to go with it. “Ah, cool.” Didn’t seem like something to talk about, then. She leaned back, glass in hand, and took a sip of water. She should’ve asked for alcohol, since she wouldn’t be drinking at Pat’s, but she perked up at the mention of her bike. “It’s a Harley. Street Bob, so a bit sleeker than some models. Wicked cool, wicked fast.” She grinned. “And I’m a great driver, so it’s a guaranteed good time.”
“I guess that’s true,” Remmy noted, trying to think back to the other shitty things they did as a teenager and finding themself unexcited about the memories. They stopped the thoughts and turned to look Nadia again, none the wiser as they plucked up a piece of brain with a fork to eat. “Guess all teenagers are just the same, really,” they said idly, before giving Nadia a smile. She seemed excited to talk about her motorcycle, and while Remmy didn’t care for them either way, it was always nice watching people get excited about something. They liked it when they could let people do that. “Well, I really don’t know much about them, but that sounds super cool. I do know Harley’s are like super popular motorcycles. They’re the really loud ones, right?” they asked, trying to make sure their interest seemed genuine-- because it was. “And hey, well-- it sounds like a lot of fun. Why not try it, right?”
“I like to think so. What’s that song? Nadia thought on it a moment as she made sure Remmy was eating. “Teenagers scare the living shit out of me, or something? I think that’s universal.” She wondered how long it would take for the poison to start reacting. Not for a while, maybe, hopefully. Probably once they got to the restaurant. It’d look suspicious, otherwise. “It can get pretty loud, yeah. I thought about getting something like a Ducati or Kawasaki, something quieter, but I’m a sucker for the classics.” She grinned, pleased with the way Remmy reacted to things. She thoroughly enjoyed their interactions. “I like your enthusiasm. Everything’s worth trying once, you know?”
Remmy chuckled, taking another few bites before closing up the container and setting it back in the fridge. “I dunno,” they said, looking back over at her, “I think they’re a lot less scary when you remember they’re just kids trying to explore the way they fit in with the world. It’s hard being so young and having all those conflicting responsibilities.” They used the water to wash down the rest of their snack before turning back to Nadia. “I don’t...know what either of those are, but I’ll trust your word that they’re quieter. Classics are classics for a reason, though, right? Cause they’re good and long lasting. Like classic rock, or old movies.” They pointed at her drink. “All done?”
“Astute observations,” Nadia said with a smile. She was always a bit surprised by how optimistic and open this zombie could be. Usually zombies and vampires seemed pretty broody and narcissistic, only worried about their souls and how they weren’t even alive. They didn’t care to see the fucking brightside to anything. At least they had their own bodies and didn’t have to go out searching for a new one. It always riled her up, but this one? She liked this one. She was kind of sad to see this one go. “I mean, anything that goes that fast is gonna be loud, but quieter is a subjective term. But, exactly. Classics are where it’s at. I love old shit like old cars and bikes and movies, especially westerns.” Fuck, she could talk about this all day, but they needed to get moving. She finished her drink. “All done. Let’s get this party started, huh, cutie?”

THE DARKEST STAR (Origin #1) - ARC Review
4 Stars for Luc and Peaches!
*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review*
In the first installment of the highly anticipated spin off of the Lux Series, we are once again thrust into the exciting and enthralling world of the Luxen. Taking place four years after the events of the Lux Series, our story follows seventeen year old Evelyn 'Evie' Dasher as she accompanies her best friend to the illustrious Foretoken club - a club known to welcome both humans and aliens. What starts off as harmless teenage girl fun soon turns to chaos as Evie is suddenly thrust into the very complicated and complex world of aliens she's only heard and seen horrors about. And things get even more crazy when she meets Luc - a mysteriously gorgeous guy who is clearly not human and who seems to know things about her. Almost like he knows her personally. Which is crazy because she's never met or seen him before this night....right? She doesn't know it yet, but Evie is in for a wild ride.
KEEP READING UNDER THE CUT
HOLY ALIEN BABIES! This book was so insane. I don't even know where to start with this review because my head is still reeling after those last couple chapters. I guess I'll start with saying that I loved this book. A lot. I was a little worried because you never know with spin off series if it'll live up to the original. Especially if said series is an ultimate favorite of yours, which the Lux Series is for me. Thankfully, I feel like The Darkest Star delivered a flawlessly executed plot that kept me on my toes until the very last page. I'm serious, the mysteries in this book are crazy and when you finally get the answers you've been itching for...your mind will be BLOWN. I was shook to the core y'all. So be prepared to go through all the feels and emotions when you're reading this. Now on to other stuff I enjoyed besides the plot. I can't not write this review without discussing the characters. Our main players, Evie and Luc were simply fantastic. Of course, if you read the Lux Series you're already familiar with Luc and you most likely are already half in love with him. Well, hold your horses ladies and gents because that love is going to multiply by like a million. I loved reading about Luc through Evie's eyes. He was more mysterious than I remember him being, but it made me want to keep reading to figure out why he was always being so evasive. On the flip side, when he was being upfront and just his normal Luc self, he was so full of awesome. He made me laugh, made me swoon, and broke my heart a time or two (I really wanted to hug him.) Then there's Evie. She was a solid main character. Pretty much the standard JLA protagonist. Likable, strong, and doesn't take crap from boys with messy hair and mesmerizing eyes. Evie was great and with Luc she was just spectacular. I loved all their scenes together and I'll admit maybe I rushed through some scenes in order to get back to reading about them again (hehe). But I couldn't help myself. Their banter and chemistry was just on point. I was rooting for them from the first moment they met. Besides Luc and Evie, I also loved all the new characters we get introduced to this time around. Some of my standout favorites are definitely Grayson, Kent, Heidi, and Zoe. I think readers will really take a liking to all of them. They just made me laugh so much and seemed like great friends that I would love to have myself. It was also so much fun seeing some familiar faces again from the Lux Series, like Daemon and Archer! I liked how they were incorporated into the story and I really hope we see more Lux characters throughout this new series. The last topic I want to touch upon that I enjoyed from this story is how the state of the world in this book resonates with what is going on in America today. Being that the public now knows that aliens do exist, the Luxen are being treated like second class citizens. Because of the actions of some of their kind the government and some of the public believe that they're dangerous and precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of humans. Luxens are basically being shunned and called murders. And it doesn't matter how good or kind most of them are, some people just assume they're all the same. Just because they're different. Just because they're not from here. It's scary how real this felt because we are seeing stuff like this in the news pretty much daily. I know JLA said it wasn't intentional on her part, but I'm glad that this ended up happening. It gave the story a more realistic feel, like we could actually be living in the book right now. I thought it was pretty genius. So, that's it folks. Those were all my thoughts and feelings on this brand new adventure Jennifer L. Armentrout will be taking us on. I highly recommend reading this one! Especially if you love the Lux Series. You'll be glad you picked this up. Once you're done, I can assure you you'll definitely want more. I, for one, am very excited to see where this story is headed because I honestly can't even guess. It's going to be torture waiting for the next book. Don't know if I'll make it, but I'm gonna try lol

Drabbles - Prompt 12
A/N: It's been forever and a day, but I'm finally getting back to fulfilling old requests. This one was much longer than I expected it to be, but it's under 3,000 words, so I'm still allowing it to be considered a drabble. ;P Enjoy!
*Many thanks to @valeriemperez for beta'ing. :)
PROMPT : Barry and Iris take the twins shopping for toys. They can speak now and they gasp seeing their daddy and uncle Ollie everywhere. They run off to the section and pick out the toys. Then they show them to Oliver. The twins like the Power Rangers more than him. -TheFlashFanatic13
The peace and quiet was so nice. Snuggled up against her husband, her nose pressed to the soft cloth t-shirt covering his chest, his arm wrapped around her waist, holding her close as their blankets warmed every part of them from neck to toe, Iris never wanted to wake up. She’d already emerged from deep sleep to that in between space, but she willed herself not to move beyond that. If Barry wasn’t opening his eyes and stretching his legs beneath the covers – as was his morning ritual – neither would she.
However, she neglected to remember Barry Allen was not the only being in this household who had the ability to force her awake.
With a loud bang their bedroom door swung open and hit the wall.
“Mommy! Daddy!”
“Daddy! Mommy!”
“I’m up, I’m up.” Barry snapped to attention, sitting up in their bed.
Iris groaned, sticking her nose into her pillow and covering her face with her hands.
“No, too early,” she grumbled.
But their darling twins paid no heed, determined in their struggle to lift themselves onto the bed and crawl over to their parents.
“Daddy!” Dawn giggled as she jumped into her father’s arms.
“Hey, beautiful girl,” he cooed. Iris wondered how he could possibly be so cheerful at this hour.
“Momma?” Don crawled towards her, hopeful.
“Oh, whoa, buddy, Mommy’s trying to slee-”
Barry reached to stop him, but Iris knew her time was up. She removed her arm from her face and sat up to face her son, who was looking quite concerned by her lack of involvement.
“Come here, baby boy,” she encouraged, a soft smile on her face.
Hesitantly Don came closer until she could reach for him and set him in her lap. She pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“Is Momma sick?” he asked, pressing a hand to the side of her face with a sudden smack since he couldn’t reach her forehead.
She grimaced some, but she was still smiling. She took his hand and kissed it too, holding it gently in her hand.
“No, Mommy isn’t sick. Mommy is just tired.”
“Store?” Dawn asked, seated in Barry’s lap but looking at her mother intently.
Iris’ lips parted. “Oh my God…” She locked eyes with Barry. “I forgot.”
“No store?” Don asked, his bottom lip trembling.
Iris looked down at him.
“No, um…of course we’re going to the sto-”
“Iris, I’m meeting with Oliver today,” Barry interjected. “It’s important.”
“So is this!” she insisted, to which he delivered a look. “It’s not my fault you also forgot.”
He sighed testily.
“Bring him with us,” she suggested.
His jaw dropped, but she didn’t correct herself.
“You’re serious.”
“Dead serious. There’s a food court on the far side of the store. We can have lunch there afterwards, since I’m sure the kids are eager to get some toys – like we promised.” She smiled through her teeth, ruffling her son’s curls.
“I suppose I could as-”
“Great! We’re going to the store, kids!” she cheered, suddenly full of energy.
“Yaaay!” the twins cheered, clapping.
“And guess what?” she whispered conspiratorially.
They leaned in, eyes glued to her, eager to hear what she was about to say.
“Uncle Ollie is coming.”
“Uncle Ollie!” They cheered and clapped again.
Barry rolled his eyes and set his daughter onto the bed next to his wife and son.
“I better give him the bad news.”
He grabbed his phone and started to head out the door, pausing at the entrance to catch Iris’ eye which was smug and gloating. He shook his head at her, but then smiled and left her with a wink just as Oliver answered the phone.
“Hey, Oliver, change of plans…”
The store was bright, beautiful, huge, and with children running rampant all over the place. Oliver’s eyes widened on seeing the place. Barry and Iris needed a moment or two to adjust, but they could hardly afford more than that as their two rambunctious children were eager to join the bunch.
“Remember what Mommy said,” Iris reminded, somewhat strained. “No running away where we can’t see you.”
“And no leaving the store without us either,” Barry added sternly.
Don and Dawn appeared to not have heard them.
“Hey, kids.”
The two stilled at Oliver’s deeper voice. They turned and looked at him, shocking Barry and Iris into silence.
“Listen to your parents.”
“Yes, Uncle Ollie,” they said, looking down, ashamed at themselves.
Iris glared at him.
“I think we had it covered, Oliver,” Barry said.
Oliver said nothing.
“Frightening them is hardly a solution to the problem,” Iris practically hissed.
“I didn’t frighten them,” he barked back. “I just-” He stopped, sighed, and looked past the judgmental parents.
“What?” Iris dared, but a simple nod of his head let her and Barry know their kids had run off. A sigh escaped her lips, and she went after them with the shopping cart. “Don, Dawn, don’t run off,” she pleaded. To her relief, the two rascals hadn’t turn the corner when Iris caught up with them.
“You’re not going to follow?” Oliver asked, looking amused and very judgy.
Barry was not so amused.
“I know you’re not thrilled with the meeting place, but could you not question our parenting skills?”
To his surprise, Oliver actually looked a bit ashamed himself.
“I’m sorry, Barry, I didn’t mean to-”
“It’s all right.” Barry brushed it off. “Come on, near the back is a quiet area with some tables and chairs. We can talk there.”
Oliver nodded and followed his friend to the back of the large store.
The little rascals were never far ahead of her, Iris reminded herself. Or, rather, they didn’t turn the end of the aisle until she almost reached them. Truly she should just be grateful that they’d remembered their rule before leaving the house to never use their speed in public – save that for when they get older and decide if they want to be superheroes or not, she’d decided.
If it were up to Barry, they’d already have their super suits ready – and for all she knew, her husband had secretly schemed with Cisco to make that happen – but she was determined to let their children have a choice in the matter. Even if she had to constantly distract her husband with her smokin’ bod whenever the topic came up and he decided to get really passionate about it. She knew he could get just as passionate about other things; they could both enjoy the experience if it was about her.
All this aside, she was grateful when the twins came to a stop in the middle of the next aisle. And truly, a complete stop. They didn’t move. Iris turned to see what they were staring at before the logical side of her brain went out the window in favor of full-blown concern.
“Whoaaa,” Don said, wide-eyed, mouth hanging open.
Dawn gasped. “A whole wall of Daddy.”
Iris bit her bottom lip, unable to repress a smile. It certainly wasn’t the first time they’d seen an action figure of the Flash. It was however likely the first time they’d seen so many of him in one place.
Suddenly Dawn dashed farther down the aisle – using her super speed for just a second before coming to a stop. Luckily, the woman passing by the aisle they were in didn’t come into full sight until after the quick flash of red lightning had vanished. Whew.
“Look, Donny! Uncle Wally is here, too!”
The woman passing by slowed down some to furrow her brows inquisitively. Iris briefly panicked and walked over to where her children were as normally as possible.
“He dresses up as Kid Flash every year for Halloween.” The woman raised her eyebrows. “And their birthdays, and other…” The woman walked away entirely. “…events,” Iris finished lamely.
She was just about to gently scold her children for revealing so much, even if it was pretty harmless and likely no one would believe them even if they did insist their family members were the superheroes displayed in great numbers in this aisle. But then Don briefly used his own speed as well to go to nearly the end of the aisle and snatch one of the few remaining figures of a different kind.
He turned to look at his sister with wide eyes and a mischievous grin. She nodded conspiratorially, and he darted away. Dawn quickly grabbed a couple other boxes before following.
“No speed, guys!” Iris called, following them quickly and relieved that at least they weren’t using their super speed again.
Finally, the two slowed right in front of their Uncle Ollie and Barry.
“Look what I found, Uncle Ollie!” Don said, smacking the box down on the table. Oliver blinked. “It’s you!”
Some surrounding patrons looked inquisitively towards them.
“Right…” Oliver forced a laugh when Barry’s attempt to shush them fell on deaf ears as they stared at their personal Green Arrow for his reaction. “That’s…me.” He cleared his throat.
Dawn turned to her father.
“Daddy, we saw you too! A whole wall of you!” she exclaimed, wide-eyed and delighted.
“Yeah?” he asked, a smile on his face at his daughter’s joy.
“Must be due to that subway save from the other day,” Iris said, walking slowly over to them and standing beside her husband and children. “The Flash is in demand,” she practically purred.
Don and Dawn were oblivious to the suggestive undertones, but Oliver was not.
“Christ,” he muttered under his breath, “There are kids here, Barry.”
Barry broke the heart eyes he’d locked on his wife to look at him and raise his eyebrows.
“I’m aware, Oliver.”
Dawn popped up on Barry’s lap and he held her securely.
“You going to get that one, bud?” Oliver asked Don who still clutched the Green Arrow box in his hand. He was going to get some sort of win out of this situation. “Not your dad?”
Barry and Iris glared at him. The exchanges were harmless, but it was best not to tempt fate.
“Uh-uh.” Don shook his head.
Oliver’s brows furrowed. “No?”
“We have lots of Dad at home,” he said, then turned to his sister. “These are what we want!” He reached out his hand, opening and closing it greedily.
Dawn looked at the two options she held in her hand and gave him the one that least appealed to her – and luckily, Barry thought, most appealed to her brother.
Don shoved the box in his Uncle Ollie’s face.
“Oh. I see.”
“Power Rangers!” Don declared. Dawn giggled from her side of the table and nodded enthusiastically when Oliver looked over at her.
“We’ve been wanting them forever!” she declared, throwing her arms wide open and accidentally dropping the box on the floor in the process. “Oopsie.”
Iris bent down and picked it up for her daughter, sharing a pointed look in addition to the toy. Be careful.
Dawn looked away briefly. Yes, Mommy.
“So, Power Rangers are better than the Green Arrow, huh?” Oliver asked, not without a little bitterness on his tongue.
“The best!” Don declared.
“Not better than Daddy,” Dawn scolded on a hushed whisper. Don turned to look at her, slightly ashamed. “Or Uncle Wally.”
“But better than Uncle Ollie,” Oliver muttered under his breath.
Iris broke the minor tiff between the adult and two children.
“Why don’t you guys go with Daddy to buy the toys at the check-out. Then come back here and have lunch.”
“Okay!” The two kids said excitedly, Dawn hopping off her father’s lap.
“Here you go.” Don pushed the Green Arrow toy towards Oliver as he dutifully grabbed his dad’s hand – Dawn doing the same on the opposite side – and walked with them to the far side of the store.
“Thanks…” Oliver responded glumly, though the boy was already too far away to hear.
Iris smiled smugly to herself and stepped closer to the secret superhero sitting at the table. She watched her husband and her now obedient children as they walked towards the check-out.
“Look at that, guess they do listen to us sometimes. Maybe we are half-decent parents.”
He sighed. “Iris, I never meant to imply-”
“I’ll get lunch,” she said, walking away towards the food court section of the store. “Bring them over when they come back, would you?”
He nodded. “Sure.”
“Great.” She smiled brightly.
“Out of curiosity…just how many Flash toys do your kids have?”
Iris stopped, unable to help herself and strutted back to where Oliver was sitting. She pulled out her phone, found the picture she was looking for, then turned the device around and showed it to him.
Oliver’s jaw dropped.
A pile of Flash plush toys, some sprinkled over their bed, some of Kid Flash too. Even a couple rare edition Jesse Quick ones. Then a whole assortment of action figures spread across their dressers, and their blankets, bed sheets, and pillow cases were decorated with lightning bolts and the Flash.
“So, they…like the Flash,” he said reluctantly.
Iris was going to gloat again. She really was. But when she thought back to how affectionate Barry was with their two kids and how fiercely he protected them, her heart melted.
She responded softly in return, “They adore him.”
Oliver met her eyes in recognition.
“Any…Green Arrow toys by any chance?” he asked hopefully but also, resigned.
“A couple,” she assured, the smug smile back. “But they don’t play with them much.”
He chuckled and nodded. “Of course.”
“I’m going to get us lunch now.” She couldn’t stop smiling. In fact, her smile widened till it was stretched across her face.
“I’ll bring them over when they get back,” he said with a sigh.
“Glad you could make it, Oliver.”
“Yeah…”
She laughed and left him. He stood up and watched as the two Allen kids collected their toys after Barry had paid for them and jumped up and down excitedly. Barry watched them with such love Oliver was almost envious, even though he could definitely relate.
Maybe it wasn’t so bad to join the Allen family for lunch after the meeting at the toy store.
