When I started shipping them:

not that long ago actually?? i used to be really really obsessed with yamahiko (still am lol) but i think a month ago is when i started to ship them!!

My thoughts:

omg look at these gays omg look at them go!!! i love both of them very much and the dynamic these too have is just,,, so wonderful!!! the fact that this ship isn’t really that popular just. astonishes me

What makes me happy about them:

the height difference. haruhiko has picked up teruya in the past and run off with the him blushing furiously. in a non-despair au where the two grow up teruya finally gets tall enough to do that to haruhiko. think about it.

What makes me sad about them:

that one moment in sdra2 where teruya started crying when he saw the statues of haruhiko and satsuki,,,, just,,,, waaaaaaaaaaa

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

the fact that there’s no fanfics about this ship

Things I look for in fanfic:

them. plz someone make a fanfic for them plz i beg u--

again, just content for them!! this ship is underrated and desperately deserves content and if i have to be the one to supply it then so be it,,,,

with haruhiko it’d be yamato cuz i think they’re also really cute together and have the same hyper vibes as this one!!! as for teruya i think he and kinji can be pretty cute,,, 👉👈

turns out that everyone is okay and the killing game doesn’t happen!!! haruhiko proposes to teruya after a 3 year relationship and are now happily married with a son and like,, 3 birds

When I started shipping them:

hmmm probably when i first joined the dra fandom!! i saw these two and my mind went “hey they should kiss” and now we’re here!!

My thoughts:

aka tsurugi starts crying after kinji hugs him because he’s touch starved and hasn’t received physical affection in years. both of them deserve to feel happy and i just want tsurugi to get therapy with the help of kinji!!

What makes me happy about them:

a few people ship this actually??? and they’ve made content about it??? and that’s so poggers??????

What makes me sad about them:

the fact that a few popular people who make content for this ship are people that i have bad memories associated with them and that these people have actually impacted my mental health in a very negative way....

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

i remember reading a fic of them once??? i forgot the name but it was really sad and angsty and i almost cried

Things I look for in fanfic:

i!! want fluff of them!!!! plz i just want them to be happy.....

My wishlist:

again not too long ago actually!! i used to ship makitomo pretty heavily but then uh. something happened. and around a month ago i saw these two and started shipping them

My thoughts:

plzzzz let them kiss,,, i swear these two have been on my mind for almost two weeks and i’m just this () close to writing a full short fic story of these two!!!

What makes me happy about them:

well all of the content that i’ve seen about this ship is relatively positive!! i’ve seen a bit of angst for them but overall it’s just fluff and cute domestic scenes and just aughggggg.... my heart <3

What makes me sad about them:

they fact that they’re dead. wtf

like i’ve said with otohiko, the fact that there isn’t a lot of content/fics about them in general. cmon guys!!!

When I started shipping them:

i’d say,, around january?? that’s around a month after i joined sdra2. i wasn’t that crazy about them then but after seeing some. questionable content about soruko i decided to ship this and yeah!!

My thoughts:

comfort ship go brrrrr!!!! these two are so fucking cute holy shit i love them!!! their dynamic is spectacular and u guys seriously need to get on board with this because GOD I LOVE THEM!!!!

What makes me happy about them:

just thinking about these two makes me feel happy,,,, i just want good things for them.....

What makes me sad about them:

the fact that setsuka’s dead,,,,,,

there’s like. only two people that make content for setsuruko. i just... that’s sad.....

When I started shipping them:

again when i got into the fandom!!! there was a fair amount of content for them when i joined and for a moment i thought they were like actually dating in canon lol (linuj is homophobic of course he doesn’t say that /j)

My thoughts:

mikako gently kisses her professor gf on the cheek,,, these two are so precious for each other and i love it when people make content about them even if it’s plationic!!! again mikako encourages rei to get therapy cuz she also desperately needs like jesus,,,

What makes me happy about them:

i’ve seen a couple of sketches linuj drew of them and every time i see i freakout and think about it for two weeks!!! they also have a great dynamic and just seeing the people making content of this ship and it’s not nasty is great!!! keep it up u guys!!

What makes me sad about them:

m. mikako. she. is dead. (also some people that make reikako content have given me panic attacks so oops!!!)

Hi friends, it’s me again, your friendly neighbourhood fledging academic, wanting to pick your brains about fandom things :D

So after months of research, I finally have a rough idea of what my Honours thesis is about :D The extremely brief CliffNotes version is: I am looking at hyperserial texts, which is basically the term I’ve come up with for networked collections of stories set in a single storyworld. i.e. something like the Star Trek universe, or Star Wars, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, etc etc.

You see, English Lit (and other disciplines that look at narrative texts) is great at talking about single texts, and also sequels, adaptations, even serial texts, and is starting to get into transmedial texts, but still hasn’t really managed to figure out how these huge, vast, hyperserial texts work and how we read them. SO that’s where I’ve stepped in.

My research question is basically asking what kinds of narrative desires are satisfied/enabled by these hyperserial texts. The traditionally recognised narrative desire is ‘desire for the end’, i.e. theorists reckon the only reason we enjoy texts is that we want to find out what happens and get closure.

But my hypothesis is that actually (and especially in the case of hyperserial texts) one of the pleasures we have in reading is inhabiting and expanding a fictional world.

Which is kind of one of those, yeah, duh, of course, why else would we watch 700 and whatever episodes of Star Trek and read novels and comics and play games and write fan fic and make art and playlists and talk about these fictional characters and events and settings and everything?

So now I just need to find the textual evidence to back up this claim. Ideally it would have been great to actually talk to people (my supervisor was like, OMG yes, I want to read that so much), but alas, I’m already halfway through this thesis and have 0 qualitative research training so far (she encouraged me to go and get some for my PhD lol), so I’ll have to stick to looking at texts like a good English Lit Honours student :P

Which is where you all come in! I was originally planning on not doing Star Trek (only because I’ve already got a paper on female-centred Star Trek fan fiction coming out in a few months), but now that I know what I’m looking for ... well, this is the fandom I know best, have friends in, have read/watched/played the most stuff in, and also have a bunch of “non-fiction” in-universe books for, so Star Trek it is!

I’m already loosely thinking of looking at things like: fan fic which doesn’t have much of a traditional plot, but which explores character or worldbuilding, etc (i.e. most of it, lol); paratexts (fancy word for the stuff outside of the narrative texts) like the aforementioned in-universe books but also technical guides, series companions, the encyclopaedia, etc; and then fan discussions, meta, and any accounts of people’s reading processes or responses. Basically anything that can be used, and looked at closely, to go ‘look, see, this shows that people like inhabiting this fictional world!’ or ‘this shows that people like expanding this fictional world!’ (beyond the fact that all this stuff exists that is)

So I’m hoping that by throwing this open to other people I’ll come up with more ideas than I would by myself. I’m already going to dig through my boxes of Star Trek books in storage (and was excited to realise that the Vulcan Travel Guide I bought a few months ago could be a great text to use), and look here on Tumblr, and at fic, etc, but if this has twigged any ideas for anyone, please pass them on! How to start an ask blog

I already answered this question, but my tips were pretty short so for the 20k I decided to take the time to write all the tips that I learned. So I hope that I will help the new ask blogs!

If you don’t know me, hello I’m Sarah and I started this blog in June/July 2016 when there were only 3 ask blogs and the other 3 were inactive, yep. It’s been now 8 months than I run this blog so hopefully this will help you! (ofc my tips are good for not only bts ask blogs!).

Also it’s just tips and things that I noticed so you don’t have to follow everything!

Warning: very long

1. Chara Design

*Chara design is really important, it’s the first thing that people will see. Since tumblr users scroll down really fast, they need to recognize the member really quickly. So before starting your blog I think you should take your time to sit down and to create the chara design. Try different things and see what is the best for you! A quick way to do it is to mix their personalities with their real life features! But don’t worry, you will surely change your design after a couple of months, but it’s a great beginning to have a design in mind!

*Color palette is also really important. I don’t like to whitewash but do what you want. If you don’t like to whitewash like me I think that this VLIVE really shows their beautiful skins♥. But again you will change it for sure later, I often change my color palette tbh. It won’t be perfect, and it can’t be perfect so don’t be too pressured by this!

2. AUs (Alternate universe, other professions, ships & OCs)

1. Alternate universe

My ask blog isn’t an AU so I don’t know everything about this. But I’ll try my best to give you all my advices.

I think that AUs are really funny and really great (for ex witch au etc). And a good way to create one is to ask yourself some really simple questions who will help you to develop this universe and to keep it consistent. For example: Where are they? Do they like were they live? The mood of the place? Specificities of the place/universe? Do this place affect their appareance? In which way? Do they have the same age? How the universe interacts with them? etc....

2. Other professions

It’s basically the same than 1. but with different questions: Where do they work? With who? Do they work a lot? How are the customers? Do they like their job? How involved are they in this job? Are they good at it? Someone ocasionally helps them? etc...

3. Ships

Ships are part of the AU because in your universe, the ship is canon (which is not the case irl). It’s also the same than 1. and 2.: How is the relationship? Do they have habits? (things they do often etc..), How the members interact with the ship? Things they love about each other? Things they hate? Where do they live? etc...

4. OCs

I only saw a few ask blogs including OCs but they exist so I have to talk about them eheh. (oc x member, doesn’t me it’s a romantic relationship tho)

If you want to create this type of blog, be ready because it’s going to be really difficult. The thing with Ocs is that it will take time to your followers to like your OCs because they don’t know them. You should introduce the OC in your first post: How do they know each other? (member and the oc), Age? Type of relationship? Interactions with the other members? Do they know the other members? Reasons why the member likes your OC etc...

*obviously you don’t have to answer to all the questions!^^^^

3. The start of your blog & tips

1. Make an introduction!

It’s basically just a post saying “hello i exist plz send me asks ty”. You can maybe tag other art blogs to bring some of their followers on your blog so you can starts somewhere! If it’s an AU, introduce it a lil bit. Don’t be too pressured by this post. You will hate it later trust me, just draw something cute, introduce the theme of your blog and that’s all!

2. Don’t answer directly to the ask

By that I mean don’t answer in this lil box (?) here

And here’s why:

The quality is better when you upload your drawings in the picture post (idk how it’s called??), plus it takes more time to load (at least for me?)

But the major reason is because of this:

When someone reblogs an ask, it will cut/hide the pictures a bit. Which is really not good. If you write some texts it might be hided because of this, and the tumblr user will have to click on it to read everything. But the majority won’t click on it. I did this myself, and I’m glad that an anon told me about this!

So what I do now is that I took a screenshot of the ask, I save it and upload it in the picture post (still don’t know how it’s called ugh).

3. MAKE IT CLEAR!!

Clarity is key guys! I see a lot of beautiful artworks who aren’t clear, so we don’t understand what’s going on! :^((. Tumblr users scroll down really fast, if they don’t understand something or if they have to take the time to understand it, they will keep scrolling.

So don’t explain all the story in one or two pics (or maybe it’s just really short but wtv). There will have a lot of informations in one pic and it’s not good at all :^((

Don’t be afraid to SHOW things. Show what’s going on. Yoongi is watching Jhope’s body roll for 5 minutes on Youtube? In an other picture, zoom on his laptop to make it clear: “yes Yoongi is a J-Hope trash, look at his laptop”. That’s why my comics are 6-9 pictures long. I make sure that everything is understandable.

4. I don’t get attention, why? :^(

OK this is a really complicated topic, but I get this question pretty often. I won’t talk about the lack of reblogs or anything like that.

In this section I will talk about things ask blogs don’t talk, so here we go.

For some reason,people reaaaally don’t talk about this topic in the drawing or writing community (in the kpop fandom). But ayy let’s talk about this: Depending on the member, you will get more or less notes. That’s sad but true. The maknae line is more popular and the hyung line is less popular. So if you choose to create a blog centered on only one member and he’s not really popular, you will get less notes. Be aware of that.

Same for ships. Some ships are more popular! And some are less popular.

(for this one please don’t be offended ;<;)

After working on this blog for a while, I realized something. Maybe you noticed it, but I don’t answer questions like “what’s your fav color”, “do you like this instrument?, “do you like that?” etc... It’s because...it’s not the most interesting questions in the world. Let’s say you answer and say “blue”. Well yea, the drawing can be amazing, but the content isn’t really interesting. It’s blue, well ok. So if you only answer this kind of asks, there’s chances that people might not be really interested.

Again, I’m not here to tell you how to run your blog! If you like to answer to this, keep going bro!

An other thing that I noticed. Comics are always prefered to illustrations. Because it’s a story. The illustration can be amazing, but it’s an illustration. People really enjoy comics because it’s a story and it can be funny, and angsty or idk. My asks are stories. It’s not a direct answer, it’s a story that answer to the question. But again, if you don’t like to make comics, don’t do it :^DDD It’s just something that I realized!
