#they're my more feral durge

Text
Durge whose nature is more on the feral side, where they're ferocious, but not cruel. The cruelty from before came from years of being shaped into the living weapon their Father would raze the world with.
Astarion seeing the ferocity of Durge, picking it apart from the cruelty of the blood whispers, and truly appreciating it. He sees Durge claw open a cultist and lick the blood from their claws without hesitation. Astarion is floored, and a little terrified, but it wins Durge a little more favor.
Durge and Astarion being creatures of the night, each a little ferocious in their own ways. Durge still enjoying ripping apart flesh with their claws, without fear they'll turn it on the wrong person. Astarion embracing his prey drive. Astarion and Durge hunting together, always keeping Astarion's hunger sated. They embrace their inner darkness, ultimately unleashing it to perform heroic deeds.

Listening to Zevlor's voice lines all the way through is so interesting....and enlightening. Because this is a proud man whose confidence in himself is shattered, but he's still proud none the less.
Zevlor threatens you if you punch him. Just straight out says, I WILL kill you if you do that again. He punches Aradin if he spews slurs. He asks you to kill khaga, he asks you to kill the goblin leaders. No hesitation on any of that. Just ..hey buddy you wanna do a couple of murders since I am currently incapable of doing those murders. But he also fights if you ask him to, defends his people through everything. And he won't beg you to do any of that yourself if you reject him. If you don't say yes, he respects it and respects your decision...though he does get snippy as hell about it. If you do turn on him, he'll call you a coward, but he will not beg because once again. Zevlor is proud.
Zevlor is also possessive. You can hear it in the way he says MY people. Sure that could just be the way he speaks because they elected him leader, but he was a commander before that. He was a man who spent his life fighting to have that position of power and respect. Plus he almost sells his soul to the absolute to keep them, both the people and the power. As he says....those people are HIS. His to look after, his to care for his to protect. There's gotta be something in there, deep inside of him that clutches at these people like a dragon does their gold. They are his after all. They're all he has left of the life he once lived. He would rather die than give them up to anyone. Even when the absolute pushes into his mind, it offers him power to keep them safe, plays at his devotion to his oath and his people....and his pride which.....as we've established...is not an insignificant part of him.
He is also protective and caring. That obviously comes with the territory of becoming a paladin of helm, a hellrider and taking the oath of devotion. From what he does for his people to what he's done with his life ...well.....nothing more really needs to be said about that. Its his most prevalent trait and his most commendable.
Zevlor also curses a lot. He is very quick to anger, though he tries to keep himself from flying off the handle and can be reeled back in. He still throws punches and threatens lives with very little prodding. Which, once again, harkens back to his pride. Its quite entertaining to hear every other line be a curse or a shout or some growling threat. Sweetheart where? That man is FERAL.
Another thing is that Zevlor definitely respects you if you are a selfless Tav/Durge/Origin. I think he tries so hard to be selfless as well. Sees it as a good trait to have, but he isn't. Not really. Not where he thinks it counts. Its probably what he percieves as a fatal flaw, which I would guess comes from living in holier than thou Elturel where you basically sign your life away to "protect" the city. I personally don't think total selflessness is a fantastic trait to have, but I could see where Zevlor could pick that up as the Ideal trait for a paladin to have.
Throughout the game, you see this man crack under insurmountable pressure. You see the chips in the facade that he puts up but if you look, you can see the good and the bad trapped underneath those chips. It tends to be frustrating that people only see the cracks and not what's underneath of them and I think thats what annoys me the most. He's a fun character. He's a strong, powerful man who has shattered like iron under pressure but at the end of it all he IS a good man and a menace and a half with such an interesting mindset and backstory that I can't help but wonder if anyone who sees the character, sees him at all.
In summation.
I love him, Your Honor. 10/10 would let him go feral and smite my ass for talking back to him.

In your post about Durge's sudden normality you mentioned implied SA in the tags; would you mind elaborating on that? I don't remember seeing any implications like that, but I know I missed a lot of details in my first run. (Obviously if you would mind feel free to ignore this.)
Naturally this is going under a cut for discussion of rape, sexual exploitation and incest:
Some of it is mostly me reading into things and frowning, but Bhaal being able to violate Durge sexually and the intent of sexual exploitation (regardless of Durge's will) is canon and it does lend credence to the idea.
Durge is obligated to breed, and Bhaal can and will force them to; the original version of the feral ending in the dialogue files involves him forcing them into a state of sexual hyperarousal and forcing them to mate with a gnoll, in the same way he can force the urge to slay on them. Bhaal's intention there is to see if he can breed more monstrous Bhaalspawn. Some of the dialogue options are just Durge screaming in horror.
Durge has no memory of the actual rape; Bhaal forces them to spend the entire time thinking about him: "Your memory of last night's act is absent. In the moment of mounting, your mind emptied itself, and you could think only of Bhaal."
And knowing that, when I saw "I love you father. I'm a good [child], a good, good [child]" in the released version I had to go sit down for a bit.
We know that Durge is expected to have kids - it's a mortal sin that they haven't. It's also vague whether they tried or not pre-amnesia; they're described as "failing" not refusing, it could've gone either way. Durge may already have been exploited. Even if they don't disappoint Bhaal in game, this "duty" remains. It's not just the Tribunal making shit up; Sceleritas is your direct liaison to Bhaal, and he makes this clear to them as Bhaal's Chosen too.
We know that if Durge won't kill then Bhaal will force them to, and we know that he can force them to have sex too. It's entirely possible that Durge's only say in this is to either fuck partners they chose or have them chosen for them (as we all know, Bhaal has zero respect for his kids' bodily autonomy or desires past his use for them, and Bhaal wants more babies.)
At the very least, it doesn't seem to be a major part of Bhaal's plan for Durge yet, so Durge may have dodged this specific form of abuse for now.
Bhaal has also done this to Sarevok, it seems, who would probably have killed himself back in BG1+2 if he could see what would happen to him in his future.
Knowing that Bhaal has no issues inflicting sexual arousal on his own kids, those scriptures you find that explicitly refer to the pleasure he bestows on his followers when they kill as "erotic" unfortunately have little reason not to be applied to Bhaalspawn. It would also explain the necrophilia if Durge has been conditioned to see killing/corpses as sexual.
Not quite the same thing, but the thing where people think Durge fucked the Netherbrain is actually from a remark by Bhaal in the journal update, where he makes a crack that "That slimy thing in the Moonrise called you its fallen star. It was very reverent [...] apparently [you're] good at playing with tentacles."
That's not inherently sexual, but knowing that Bhaal is willing to sexually exploit Durge and that the fandom had already interpreted it as sexual, I did kind of stare at it in horror for a bit.

Just gotta say that the way you draw facial expressions is soooo dynamic, and your art makes me grin with equal feral glee when I see it. 🥰
I love your spooky smiley deranged durge, will you tell me more facts about them?
Thank you so much! And YES i certainly can uuhhh lets see
-In my personal canon he has no name, having first assumed to have forgotten it along with everything else and later being told/figuring out that he renounced any in favor of being called Bhaalspawn, Slayer, Death Bringer, Bhaaling, and any number of edgy titles we hear throughout the game lol he did this pre-tadpole to emphasize his birth-right and deny himself any personal identity. He never picked a name for himself post-tadpole and everyone just refers to him as The Drow, Astarion also calls him his usual pet names.
-He's not necessarily one for luxuries but still likes pretty, ostentatious things, especially jewelry. Pre-tadpole DU drow wore them generously, post-tadpole doesn't understand his own fascination, but he likes wearing rings and holds some sentimentality for specific pieces. (he never threw away the "magic" ring he stole from the tiefling child in act 1)
-Every expression of love and affection he had pre-tadpole came out pretty twisted, but with this in mind he very much adored Orin, though you would never guess it from seeing how they interacted with each other.
-The patterned scars on his chest, face and neck were mostly self inflicted (the rest he had Orin's help for). The one's on his arms were an "accident" kinda but he still put them there willingly (and gleefully lol)
-He has a borderline irrational hatred for drow women. He hates drows in general, though mostly because they're uptight and snobby and less so because of, yknow, all the slavery and child killing etc.
-Despite looking evil as hell he's very much morally neutral post-tadpole. He's pretty much a "do what you have to do to survive" kind of guy - and sometimes a "because i want to" kind of guy lol.
-He thinks very highly of himself which makes him overly bold. This got him through the whole campaign and destroying the brain but it also makes him a huge liability LOL its also a source of conflict in his and Astarion's relationship because he lowkey doesn't think Astarion can make it without him - he continuously and completely fails to realize how this is an issue.
-The only other people he has respect for and trusts are Shadowheart, Astarion and Jaheira. Ironically these are all people he didn't get along with well at all at the start.
-He's kind of a hopeless romantic, he's just weird about it. He's pretty much picked Astarion as his person and kind of devotes his life to him now, sometimes to a troubling extent.
-I'm writing a whole story that takes place post-game here where you can gleam a lot more about his character and learn things that i can't share yet because it would be a spoiler hint hint nudge nudge

Oh right. I forgot. PSA:
The netherese language uses the draconic script. Human Bhaal was from Netheril. Also funny bit about the old netherese people, 'dark-haired and fair-skinned'. Also at some point his body started rotting away or smth, so lots of exposed flesh, blood, you catch my drift (hence why he now so... 'unique' and why durge has that red colour in-between his scales)
White Dragons are the most feral out of all chromatic Dragons. They're also known for abandoning their kiddos and their alignment is commonly chaotic evil. Really petty too btw. And ironically, they have a great memory.
Dragonborn put their clan above all else. They don't really exist as an individual, their mindset is more 'anything for the family' (now including murder and cannibalism).
Dear Lord of Murder, I see what you did there. Creative. Beautiful. No Notes. I'm deceased.

Gale x Durge Brainworm
I know everyone loves Durge x Astarion/Gortash BUT HEAR ME OUT!! Durge x Gale/Gortash. And yes I'm biased because I love Gale but here are my thoughts!
PS. These are my headcanons so that I can write about Durge x Gale/Gortash. I'd like to remind everyone that headcanons/meta/fanon is just for fun and to not let any fan interpretation ruin your favourites.
SPOILERS FOR ALL OF BG3
Gortash and Durge
A lot of the details between Gortash and Durge are shrouded in mystery, but we do know that Durge had enough affection for Gortash to beg for forgiveness. And that, at the very least, Gortash saw Durge as an equal.
In my reading of their relationship (For my Durge x Gale/Gortash), Gortash's role in their relationship is that he was the one initiating. Initially, because Durge would've been a good ally. Whether or not that turned into real feelings is up to you.
In my fic, he definitely has real feelings for Durge but this results in controlling/manipulative behaviours because Gortash doesn't know any other way to conduct a relationship.
And my Durge would have zero relationship experience so not only are they confused, they have a hard time seeing Gortash's actions as wrong.
In this way, Gortash/Durge would mirror Mystra/Gale with their power imbalances.
Gale would help Durge to reassess their relationship with Gortash. This happens after Gale's astral sea -> Mystra confrontation sequence.
Redemption
I just love the angst and the hurt/comfort that I can create with a good aligned Durge and their bf Gale.
Imagine if the Alfira scene was written with a bit more pizzazz. Durge wakes up, Alfira gored beyond recognition. They panic, which wakes up the camp.
Astarion/Lae'zel/(Act1)Shart are like oh you killed someone, what's the big deal.
Gale, seeing Durge's obvious panic, goes up to them like what happened?
Durge backs away, stay away from me! I'm afraid I might hurt you too.
Then Gale comforts them as if they're a scared, hissing cat.
OR
During the feral Durge scene, Gale ties them up then casts sleep so that they can basically sleep it off. Does it work? Dunno! But it's the thought that counts.
Oh, the possibilities are endless.
TW : Talks about suicide below
Self-sacrifice
I won't write about this much because it's a sensitive topic for me but both good!Durge and Gale have this idea that them dying is A Good Thing Actually. It's not. I think they should both live.
ANYWAY THAT'S ALL THANK YOU

ive been reading ur posts for a while and i had a vision from god recently that i needed to share with like minds, so i hope this will be to ur taste... i've been trying to find others who i know this will appeal to (besides me)
but...... bhaalcest-- orin being incredibly possessive over durge and jealous over gortash and durge's relationship, so she changes into gortash when she knows durge is expecting him and has her way with durge, while they're none the wiser.
for the sake of everyone else (and urself) i wont get into the nasty gorey parts that really makes this so much better, i love me some knife"play" (is it really play if orin just outright stabs u) and woundfucking (that i really want to get into but!!!!! i have to find the right audience... hoping i can rant insanely about all that here i just didn't wanna outright plop it down when this scene is good by itself too LJDLASJFAL) -👻
To be fair, I already wrote about Orin fingering a wound. I’m all for insane fucked up knifeplay rants in my inbox. Anyway, obligatory Dubcon, Orin, and Improper Use of Gortash’s Body warning
Something’s wrong with Enver.
You only notice it sometimes. The look in his eyes is wrong, or his grip on you is far too tight. Whenever you mention the change in demeanor, he brushes it off. Or he gets angry. Yelling, throwing things, veins in his throat bulging kind of angry. There’s something wrong with him. The man you know wouldn’t act like this.
You love it.
You almost pounce on him the first time it happens, so turned on you don’t even bother removing anything but the bare necessities. He’s confused for only a moment, but quickly falls into place. You ride him until his eyes roll back, nails digging so hard into your hips that they draw blood. You leave your own bloody scratches down his chest, marking him.
Imagine your surprise when you get to see him again a few days later and the marks are gone completely. It throws you off- your hips are still bruised. You call him out on it, he waves his hand and says he had an image to uphold. He can’t walk around looking like he was attacked by a feral cat. The comment irritates you. You like seeing him marked up, proof that he’s yours. You reach for your knife subtly. You think he needs to be reminded of your real claws.
You’re frozen when instead an ornate dagger is suddenly held to your throat. That bastard. He’s stolen your trick.
He presses the point of it to your throat, drawing blood. You feel the warm drip of it down your skin and into your shirt. You should kill him for this. You should play in his guts while he begs for the mercy of death. However, feeling him cut through your clothes with no regard for your safety excites you more. Every thin slice into your skin as he hurries to get you nude is exhilarating. You’ll get him back for it, eventually. You just need him inside you.
He shoves you back hard, splaying you out on the table. You eagerly spread your legs for him, throwing your head back with a gasp when he bends down to lick the trail of blood all the way back up to your neck.
He groans into your ear, hips grinding against yours with a stuttered breath. He wants to savor your blood, forever remember it staining your pretty skin. He leans to the side to hold the dagger against your stomach, dragging the blade across it teasingly. The cut is thin, barely drawing blood. You arch your back, desperate for more. He laughs breathlessly, pulling the dagger away to instead hold it over your thigh. You ask what's gotten into him. He laughs again, biting down on your shoulder. He asks a question of his own- how far would you let him go?
The dagger dances on your skin and you writhe, holding back a grin. Anything. You'd let him do anything, so long as you could play with him too. He groans, mouthing at the junction where your shoulder meets your neck. Of course. It'd only be fair, he wants you to play in his blood too. Wouldn't it be divine, love?
He's never called you love, ever. You're not sure he's called anyone love in his life, but when the blade finally bites into your flesh... you can't seem to make yourself care. You just beg for more.

Because I am feral for pre-game durge x Gortash cause villains in love that I don't actually have to roleplay is very fun for me to write about!
here are my headcanons for each of my Durges and their relationship with Gortash was.
Spoilers for the entirety of dark urge
Lilith x Gortash
Lilith has very low self esteem which stays a constant even when the game starts, yes this is because she sees herself as nothing but a monster. But oh boy Gortash came into the picture he started to compliment her and most likely told her "You know you aren't a monster they think you are" and she was so desperate to hear that from ANYONE that she ate it up
Like the whole plan to take over the sword coast and such was given to her by bhaal and she just figured "Okay I'll do it if it gets you off my back" and then Gortash most likely pitied her cause she didn't have anyone to talk to about stuff and just ended up opening up to Gortash and he probably felt bad that she was just kind of doing this so she could maybe have a normal life.
Lilith fully would sometimes use the excuse of "Gortash told me not to kill that person" so bhaal wouldn't punish her. It's not like bhaal is going to ruin the whole plan just cause Lilith is lying so she doesn't have to kill someone like that would be stupid.
After sometime of spending time together and just spending late nights talking and getting to know each other and several glasses of wine most likely or whatever other drinks. the two of them fuck and then Lilith confesses she feels quite deeply for the man, prompting Gortash to of course brush it off at first cause they're drunk.
After a while, though the two can no longer deny their feelings and start up a relationship they keep on the down low for the most part. Also keeping it on the down low in case things fall horribly apart either because of bhaal or some other reason they are both aware that this could go horribly wrong but it's something they both enjoy and don't want to let go of quite yet.
Of course it does go horribly wrong in a way neither could predict, and what makes it worse is Lilith was going to forsake the entire plan and just ask Gortash to marry her and run away. Now I like to imagine Orin hualed Lilith's body all the way to Gortash's office and then threw the corpse at him and Gortash heartbroken didn't know what to do so he tried his best to make it better and basically her corpse sent off to the colony in hopes that maybe one of the necromancers would raise her from the dead and well his wishes came true.
During this time that Lilith goes full feral he comes to visit her under the guise of just making sure things are going smoothly all the while just taking his time to mourn the loss of his lover. Now during this time I fully believe that Lilith had a note with a ring ready to give Gortash and he actually found it on Lilith's body and has kept it ever since.
Now onto the other pairing who is way more chill then Lilith is
Siliin(she/they) x Gortash
Siliin does have self-esteem issues but this is mainly whenever they get into the main game. Otherwise they just cant be bothered to look down on herself.
She concocted the plan by herself and started to put the plan into motion before realizing they needed help and then finding Gortash. Realizing the two of them work together well fully welcomed him into the fray soon after.
Siliin is more of a freak in actual weird fucked up ways then Lilith is and Siliin really isn't as disgusted by their urges as Lilith is. Like Siliin likes to indulge sometimes while Lilith will indulge but more out of habit then actually want to. Meanwhile Siliin they enjoy the fucked up shit, yeah you wanna eat this flesh off a corpse hell yeah brother they're all for it you go!
Now Siliin is not evil by any means, yeah she's fucked up in the brain but like she's not really going to go out of her way to be a bad person cause it just isn't what she feels like doing. Like besies the urges she has no real drive to do evil things.
Now Siliin also doesn't have a drive to really do good things either and therefore that's kind of why they work as a the dark urge cause they just do whatever is easiest and submitting to the urges is easier then fighting of course once they get into the game they actually do put in a little more effort.
Most of their lack comes from the fact they are constantly depressed about their life, but Gortash comes into the fray and suddenly they actually feel like they have a reason to keep on going. Like they don't know what it is about this guy that gives them the energy to keep going but she really likes it.
Like Siliin enjoys their late night talks and meetings and wine nights together. Eventually Siliin realizes that she has fallen for the guy, they don't really mind of course they just keep it to themselves for a while.
Until one day they are talking to someone and she gets asked what she thinks of Gortash and Siliin just gets really excited actually about getting to gush over her favorite person. Gortash overhears and realizes that Siliin might like him a little to much.
They two have a talk and Siliin admits to feelings right off the bat and Gortash accepts these feelings admitting he's been feeling the same and the two agree to start a courtship of sorts or as much of one as they can have.
They are having little dates and late-night walks together and sharing chaste kisses fairly wholesome stuff and then they go back to his home and they have some baller sex. Like full of passion and kisses and just all-around pretty good.
Then fast forward Siliin starts to just not care about the plan anymore and just wants to leave it all behind and run away with Gortash, now this time Siliin does end up telling Gortash the plan and he cant agree to it. They are to far in the plan for this to happen and this sends Siliin into a deeper depression than they already were making them an easy target for Orin.
Now Gortash doesn't visit Siliin like he did Lilith cause he cant bare to face her, cause he fully blames himself for the state Siliin has gotten in.

My Tav/Durges opinions of the party
Astarion - Ride or die, they are similar in concerning ways, will make him participate in helping people against his will, will always call him out when he's being shitty- kinda uncomfortable with the flirting at first glad he stopped, loves him like a brother
Lae'zel- Intense, scared of her at first will now go feral to protect her smile. Wishes she and Shadowheart would just kiss already. Respects her as a warrior but is also very protective of her. Loves her intensity and passion- will fight a lich-queen for her.
Shadowheart- Worse liar they have ever met. First thought upon meeting her was she's kinda shit at this whole Shar cleric thing. Worries about how she's doing with her chronic pain. Finds her amusing. Genuine wine buddies. Shar is on a shit list for obvious reasons. Thinks she and Lae'zel should kiss already.
Wyll- First impressions 'oh no he's hot' to Oh no he's good. Adores him , loves his stories and attitude. Has been recording his old escapades to compose into songs. Loves that whole heroic persona- realized their adulation of him was a tad unhealthy for anything more than friendship. Genuinely thinks him too good to associate with them (doubly so as Durge) thinks he and Karlach should date. Is quite miffed that they can't kill Mizora like beyond furious.
Karlach - The sun incarnate. Loves how lively and full of love for living Karlach is. Adores her smile - can't wait to give her Gortash's head on a platter. They don't have a lot in common though so while they care they find it hard to be any closer to her.
Gale- Did not like him at first fully expected him to be a stick in the mud. Was quickly proven wrong- smitten by his hopeless romanticism. Loves to hear stories about his travels and listen to him passionately go on about magic (Hates Mystra now with a burning passion) is genuinely in love feels safe with him- he's been supportive since they've met.
Halsin- respects him, finds him attractive but doesn't really have a lot in common with him. They're stargazing buddies though for sure but not super close.
Minthara- sees a lot of themselves in her, hopes that maybe by helping her redemption they can be redeemed as well. Cares a lot for her but it hurts to be around her sometimes. They're too similar in their devotion and guilt. They wish they didn't snap at her the way they do sometimes.
Jahira- called her mom once as a slip up and will now never live it down. Respects and admires Jahira immensely and holds her opinion in perhaps an unhealthily high regard. Craves her approval to the concern of the others and Jahira herself.
Minsc- They're friends, they adore Boo, Minsc is very uncomplicated and easy to just exist around a good ally and friend. He makes them forget the absolute horseshit they're all in and makes everything genuinely feel like a normal adventure with comrades. He's like a good oak tree in the summertime.

i'm writing drabbles about mercy, but they're specific story beats i want to explore more (like waking up on the beach)
my durge is a nonbinary feral creature and they also chose their name (so it isn't the name they had while bhaal's chosen). where I am at rn, they don't remember their name nor have they chosen a name yet. I can't figure out if it's less annoying to call them "the tiefling" and "the sorcerer" when i need to specify what the "they" is referring to, or if I should just refer to them as "The Dark Urge" until i get to where they pick a name to give
thoughts???

I can't remember if I've specifically seen you post about your Tav and/or Durge? But a great way for me to get to know them! 35, 37, and 39 for a Tav/Durge of your choosing. c: (And heck, also for Rikka the Bhaalspawn you told me about, if she was a companion. :D )
Thank you! The only Tav I've put a ton of effort into lately (the one I occasionally write about) is Skye: druid, non-binary disaster, dating Shadowheart canonically. Guild artisan background. A bit more chaotic than most druids would like. Has a lot of history with the legacy companions, since they're Jaheira's protege.
Greeting a player character at different approval levels:
Low: don't you have something to be doing? ANYTHING to be doing, besides this conversation? Because I sure do.
Usually I don't bite, but I'll make an exception for you.
Neutral: need something? I have *sorts through pockets for stray stuff* an empty bottle... Some string... Where did all these gremisha tails come from? Oh, I have cheese! Let me know if any of that sounds useful.
If you're hoping I'll say something druidic and wise I'll give it a go, but it'll probably just sound sarcastic.
High: need a giant feral cat to smack someone for you? Please tell me it's Lae'zel.
You know what my favorite thing about the city is? The conspicuous lack of ankhegs.
Romance: here, I made you something *hands player some little thing made out of odds and ends collected on their travels*
You know, I used to doubt leaving Cloakwood, but with you here I'm sure it was the right choice.
If a player asks them "tell me about yourself":
Born and raised in the Gate, which was... Interesting when I learned to wild shape into a coyote as a kid. Fortunately Jaheira took pity on me and taught me some shapes that get fewer rocks thrown at them.
Spent some time at the Cloakwood circle - the REAL Cloakwood circle, mind you, shadow druids don't count - but there's only so much bug control and giving directions to lost city folks you can do before you'd rather be anywhere else.
Not much more to say, honestly? You already know I can turn into an assortment of creatures and can't stand Ashaba Dusk.
(spoiler alert: there's plenty more to say. Like the last name they refuse to use. And the fact that they learned most of what they know from a handful of legendary heroes. But they're not going to say any of that until The Plot forces them to)
When a player character asks for a kiss: have I ever said no before? Actually, if I ever do just assume I've been dopplegangered.
Of course, I wasn't working on anything important at the moment *que the sound of something falling over/a hiss of a potion eating through the workbench/the growl of a possibly dangerous animal off camera* well, not more important than this...
And for Rikka, the half-orc shaman Bhaalspawn from BG1 and 2. Neutral good, insufferable ray of sunshine, romanced Rasaad.
Greeting a player at different approval levels:
Low: Can I help you? *Under her breath* I mean, can anyone, really?
Oh hey, I've been meaning to talk to you about your questionable decisions lately.
Neutral: whatever you need, I'm on it like ugly on an orc! (This was actually one of the in-game dialogues in BG1 for the voice I chose for her. Didn't know that when I picked the voice, but it was very in character that she'd think it was funny)
We shouldn't linger here, the ghosts of this land are restless... Gods, you should see the look on your face! Admit it, I had you going, didn't I?
High: Minsc just asked me if he'd hurt that tree's feelings... I swear, I've known that man for over a century and he still manages to surprise me.
Need a summoning? An exorcism? I'm pretty sure I know a couple dead dragons who owe me favors, just say the word.
Romance: if it isn't my favorite person, wading through the mud and blood of the adventuring life to come see me.
You know I'd walk straight into the hells for you, right? And I'm not just saying that because I've done it so many times I could justify buying a summer home there, either!
If a player asks them "tell me about yourself":
Oh you know, I'm pretty normal. Daughter of a murder god, raised in the finest library in the realms - which I made much better use of than my sister, for the record - got my soul stolen by an evil wizard, but then who hasn't? They offered me my father's throne at one point, but the family business just sounded like an awful lot of work, you know? I have 15 - no wait, I think it's 16 now - beautiful grandchildren. Okay, maybe my life hasn't been the textbook definition of normal, but I'm surprisingly normal about it!
When a player character asks for a kiss: pretty please?
Oh, my day is getting better already!

Still got BG2 Bhaal on the brain; particularly the bits where he likes to point out to his "favourite" children that they're demigods born of murder and don't/can't belong with the mere mortals. Usually in tandem with trying to coax them to be a good child and do what they're told by telling them they're special and powerful.
Oh, and the bits were he goes "you could protect your loved ones/"the weak" with divine power, you know..."
"Life... is strength. This is not to be contested; it seems logical enough. You live; and you affect your world. But is it what you need? You are... different... inside. [...] You are born of murder, the very essence of that which takes life."
"Why do you submit to the flesh, when death is bred in your bones? Follow, and receive the gift you are owed by the blood in your veins. Follow, if only to protect the weak that fell because of you."
And, obviously, we see it in BG3.
"Special, yes, special, aren't you? Ssh, don't fight it. You know what you need to do. Take up that knife, do what you do best. Easy as breathing. You'll feel better after."
"See? You are worse than everyone else. Filthy hierophant of the broken and damned. [...] The illithid tide can be broken by you."
"...you can't help but be a prodigy spree-killer. It's in your perfect nature."
A lot of the undertones I'm picking up on are the same ones you get from Sceleritas: "You don't belong with normal people, you're Other and you're better. Normal people will never love you. But Father loves you. Father will give you presents and keep you safe - if you're a good child."
I don't know, I just enjoy the flavouring of Durge internalising the idea that they're fundamentally bad, alien and only Bhaal can ever love them. Adds reasons to pick the Chosen ending - especially the concept that maybe you can keep your friends safe while you destroy the world - kill them last and then yourself, the last living beings. It's a horrific ending and utterly cruel to them, but cults don't encourage thinking skills and Chosen of Bhaal Durge isn't exactly the healthiest person around. The feral ending is even more tragic, and it can make the resist ending more complicated than "yay, I'm free" (yes, my heavily brainwashed Durge is thrilled that daddy doesn't love him any more(!))
-
Companions: "Your father tortures and kills you in dream visions. Repeatedly."
Durge: "Gods don't think like mortals. Father is the Lord of Murder; that's his love language."
Companions: "..."
(One thousand years therapy for the spawn of murder.)

RULES: Post 5 songs associated with your OC, followed by 4 outfits they would wear or their style ♡
Thank you for the tag @psalacanthea!
Doing this for my Durge Eirlys since they're currently my main OC.
This has been sitting in my drafts for a few days because I've been very low energy and couldn't figure out more than 2 for each lol but here it is!
5 songs:
Serial Killers Know How to Party - Schoolyard Heroes
Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) - Pixies
Creep - Radiohead
Rub 'Till It Bleeds - PJ Harvey
Transcendental Étude nº4 (Mazeppa) - Franz Liszt
4 outfits/style (lots of rambling about it under the cut):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First and second pic is how I imagine Eirlys would prefer to present when they were Bhaalist. Skin-tight clothing, black, lots of leather as well as some metal, something to cover their face when out to kill. Practical but pretty, and probably some matching pants and boots with good mobility. The main idea is showing as little skin as possible while maintaining a distinguishable silhouette. No visible Bhaalist skulls to differentiate themselves from the rest of the worshipers. Instead of gloves, I like the idea of gauntlets with claws (sharper than in the picture) to slice flesh with their own hands. I just think it's neat!
Now, post-tadpole you bet they were thrown in the nautiloid with nothing but rags. And it's not like there are many clothes available for sale until they reach Baldur's Gate, so... They make do with what they find. Lots of more skin visible, Eirlys gets reckless and they don't care anymore about showing Frankenstein scars or what have you. Full on "monster" mode, they really feel like a feral beast that has to be kept in a cage. They don't think they deserve any better.
Last picture is post-game! I know, it's a modern outfit, but I couldn't find anything more fantasy-like that matched what I wanted lol. Think practical leather armour with minimum adornments, lots of pins and stitches. But also they're a slut, so, sexy. They want to wear something that matches their edgyness, is practical for adventuring with Astarion and feels comfortable. All black because old habits die hard, hah!
Tagging @thedomesticanthropologist because I thought you might like to do this one :) If not that's okay too!

Some (in-game) people are going to be very disappointed in the Chosen of Bhaal ending:
Lord Enver Gortash: "Together we rule Faerûn as kings. No, more than kings - gods. We rule as the Absolute."
Nightwarden Minthara: "We believed we were all victims of the cult of the Absolute, but now we learn that one of us was an architect of this grand religious hoax. You helped to create this conspiracy. That means you may be the best person to help us control it, and the key to our victory."
Astarion: "You're going to sit nicely in my lap - perhaps naked - as I give orders to our nocturnal horde from my palace throne. Bhaal's army will be an unsurpassable dowry. I cannot wait for you to claim it."
Extra special shout out to Minthara, who wants a divorce if you reject Bhaal and the power he's offering. She's so fucking deluded, I love her.
Hang on guys, let me ask Daddy Dearest what he thinks about us (that is to say, me and him) sharing power with you. Considering that I just surrendered all say about the course of my life, and defiance will result in him immediately stripping me of all free will and reducing me to a feral wreck, so it's entirely up to him:
*When you level the world over, that dead world must be yours alone.*
Sceleritas Fel: "Of course [you can keep your lover], Master! We will always need to sire more Bhaalspawn! Although if they are not up to the task we may need to find you a breeding-mate. Or ten. Hopefully the near-slaughter of your partner taught them the wisdom of obeying your every command."
And interesting that Astarion talks about a dowry considering that the dialogue files describe the union of Bhaal and Durge as the "BloodWedding", and also your love interest is a "false bride".
Sceleritas Fel: "You and the Urge are wedded, now. One body, one mind."
Narrator: *Your darling would never agree to breed a spawn with you... The defiance begets death.*
Plus the stuff from BG2 where you should abandon all your companions and embrace Bhaal, and none of your mortal life matters...
Sorry guys, Dad says that I'm only to be committed to him as his self-insert and possibly worse, and that if you don't want to die then you have to be our obedient slaves and the surrogates for our murder children (alternatively referred to as "your" and "his" offspring in the narration). You have tadpoles in your brain, and we can seize control of them at any time: you have no say in this.
This is not going to end well for any of the overly ambitious villains involved in the alliance... Especially the ones who think they're the dominant half of this deal.
(I do love the horror of a good trainwreck narrative.)
I also find it fascinating that on some levels, the Chosen and Feral endings are much the same.
Durge: "My Urges are gone from me, as is any trace of Bhaal." Lord Enver Gortash: "I'm surprised Bhaal allowed you to slip away from his grasp. But this changes nothing. With me, you will have power greater than Bhaal could have given you, and you will bow to no master."
I like to think this translates to: "OH THANK FUCK."

1, 4, and 25 for Mercy PLS <3
TYSMMMM aaah I'm feeling SO inspired since answering these. I wanted write out the answers and now I'm gonna do a drabble or two. I'll link those here when they're posted <3
1. What circumstances led to your Dark Urge becoming their class/subclass?
Mercy was my first Durge and I wanted to keep the class/subclass of the existing Durge and developed their backstory around it. The idea is that Bhaal made a set of twins from his gore. They were raised together by their adoptive parents, destined to fight to the death like any other bhaalspawn, and prove whether the Sorcerer or the Swordsman was the better killer. It was pure strength of magic vs wit and blades.
The night Mercy killed their parents, both Mercy and Ashe had their urges awaken. Bhaal wanted to pit them together to harden the surviving sibling. Mercy barely survived the night, but did so because of the bit of magic they could use as a child. At that point, they started relying on it more, and used it to help them stalk around the streets and sewers of Baldur's Gate swiftly and unseen.
Also the fact that they COULD kill people with their magic, but then chose to use their claws and blades to rip people open as an offering to Bhaal. It's just a little more intimate and a little extra. They rely more on magic after being tadpoled, but they still will rip someone open with their claws if they get pushed too far and snap.
4. What would your Dark Urge consider to be their greatest flaw? Is this accurate?
Mercy's temper and self-control. They used to have an excellent time suppressing a lot, but the damage to their brain alone has made it harder to mask some of their internal struggle. When their Urges are strong, they'll start twitching and growling. It's very feral and freaks people out. They also try not to give into their Urges with enough frequency to please Bhaal, so they're also often sick on top of acting a little rabid. They have a quick temper and will lash out to push people away. The person they bonded with first ended up being Lae'zel, until they calmed down enough to not be mean to everyone first thing.
Whether or not this is true would depend on who you asked, though. Bhaal would think his child's greatest weakness is their inability to fall in line and obey his command. The companions, on the other hand, may suggest their self-control is phenomenal since Alfira is the only innocent they've slaughtered, but actually their biggest flaw is their inability to communicate properly what is going on with them.
Mercy DID try to talk to the others, but it would have been once, briefly, and a private one on one with each. So, no one really knows WHO Mercy has confided in. Like I think all the companions would be under the impression this was just for their ears only, then the Act 2 scene happens and they all realize Mercy was actually trying to seek help, but never asked for it because they don't know how.
Astarion'a views of Mercy change pretty drastically over the course of the first two acts. He'd think everything about them was just a liability, but then the scope of what he sees as a flaw narrows as he likes them more. When he's down bad, he thinks Mercy's greatest flaw is their guilty conscience because they try too hard to make up for what they did and he's seen first hand the danger they'll put themself in if it means a chance at penance. He also side-eyes them when they get a little feral and stupid if a child is in danger.
25. How does your Dark Urge feel about Sceleritas Fel?
Mercy adores him. He's the one who comforted, cared, and guided them when they slaughtered their parents and sister as a child. He has such a sweet and gentle way that he speaks to Durge, even when he's discussing despicable shit. It eased Mercy's guilt when they were doing everything they could to please their Father.
Sceleritas is so loving and sweet, I can't see child Mercy being able to parse that someone who takes such good care of them despite the despicable shit they did MUST have their best interest at heart. Like I think Sceleritas would have very lovingly been like "that family didn't deserve you! They are so very lucky to have been chosen by your father for slaughter. It would be a kindness for your runt of a sister to not live in this cruel world, hmm?" And he just rubs their back or braids their hair. Like I am talking Sceleritas Fel #1 Girl Dad in all of Faerun. It would be so easy to do everything he asked, and Mercy just wants to be safe and to have unconditional love. Their whole life had been full of conditions to meet for the chance at being loved and adored, they want to know what it's like to be loved where they are, without having to lead the world to slaughter for an ounce of affection.
When he appears after Alfira's death, Mercy is reminded of the love and affection, even if they can't remember him. Like the just FEEL the devotion they had for him before when they meet him again, but they're confused by it rather than moved by it. They struggled with the Isobel task because of this, though. They kept feeling that warmth and love, but was disgusted by the task, even if the Urges sent little pleasurable tingles anytime they fantasized about what Isobel would look like ripped open, if her insides would be as black as the shit she's been coughing up.
The final nail in the coffin, so to speak, would be how he speaks about the Companions, especially Astarion during the kill your darling night. The awful things Sceleritas says about Astarion being beneath Mercy and better off dead than alive and loved by them just. That hardened their resolve to resist going into Baldur's Gate. Like. Not once did it waver after that, even when they found out what they are and what the Urges are from.
That being said, Mercy still loves Sceleritas. Disappointing him, spurning him so they could resist Bhaal, that was painful because they genuinely loved him as a parental figure and family member. Spurning Bhaal hurt only because it was admitting that they would never find unconditional love if they remained his chosen. He isn't capable of it and the other Bhaalists only revere them so long as they remain his Chosen.
Their companions, on the other hand, love them through every good and bad choice.
sorry that last one kinda got long haha tysm for reading !!

it happened i started writing "oops here's a baby" au while i outline what i wanna do with the scenes i have planned in my main retelling but with more durge emphasis thing. some ramblings
Vera is gonna have big bat ears as a child that she has to grow into. like her ears will be HUGE everyone will be like this poor fucking kid....then she grows into a killer queen
i'm obsessed with the idea of vera being able to charm people kinda young and using that to get people to spoil her lmao she'll lean hard into vampire tropes when younger to fit in, then chill out about it. Like it's kinda a phase, but not all of it lmao she just exaggerating some things
I had initially thought about giving her long hair, but I like the idea of a longer A-Line. Still short, but long enough she (leon until she's old enough to do her own hair) can braid the front sections and pin everything back when she needs to be Fancy. She's gonna murder some people before adulthood cus that bloodlust be strong with her double whammy. For her it's the scent and hunger. Like once they get her hunger under control she's fine.
I decided she'll have a familiar, but i gotta think more how i wanna do that bc considering it being part of her shadow magic and it being the hound of ill omen but working fanfic magic to make it a permanent summon that has a battle form.
also i'm thinking dhampir births = traumatic and if durge wasn't....durge they would have died. specifically i keep thinking of their claws ripping shit on the way out which is kind of a lot, but gives me the horrified at birthing feels so i'm into it.
Wren will struggle with how intense and vivid their thoughts get. They'll have the closest to what the Urges felt like, but not quite as strongly bc playing into "not strong enough blood connection to bhaal" type thing.
wren is going to be the quiet one of the two. they're a perceptive little fuck and tend to people watch. they're a little feral, but it's different from the feral they get when the urges be urging. there's no violence to their normal feral behaviors. they just sometimes act like a half-raised animal and spend a lot of time wildshaped as a wolf.
wren's best friends will be a pack of wild dogs and some of the stray cats. they'll get in trouble for sneaking some down to jaheira's secret place bc they'd find their way in pretty fucking quick and spend a lot of time with the animals down there. wren is jaheira's little freespirit. No locks can keep wren in or out. wren goes where wren wants.
like these two children will be opposites and some of it will be nature but also some of it nurture bc they're being raised in entirely different environments.
Wren will have SO much respect for life and death and treat corpses with reverence, but then Vera just. sometimes forgets that she's supposed to be treating corpses differently from the living, but all bodies have the potential to be alive or dead at any given moment and death just isn't permanent. plus just all the quirks the vampire spawn would have from their new status as the living dead.
