First day at new job went well, and looks like they’re going to keep me really busy! Woot! Anyhoo, feeling good but tired, gonna’ try to get to replies asap. I’ve got a bunch to catch up on, and I’ve also had a bunch of new followers so I’m tempted to post up my starter calls again, but I should definitely catch up with them drafts before I do so… but if you ever want to start a thread and just tag me in it, or come to my DMs to plot, that’s AOK! I might take a little bit to get to it, but if I clicked like on it, it means I’ve seen it and added it to my drafts!

(So it turns out I still have a LOT of feelings about the gap between Killjoys s2 and s3. So this is kind of soulmates/kind of exes but mostly just feelings. Also, SOMEDAY I WILL WRITE THESE TWO MAKING OUT, I SWEAR.)

Inthe movies, it's the moment where the music swells. Someone'sleaving, they're clutching their heart, realizing what they'releaving behind, what they almost lost, and they run back into someoneelse's arms, and they kiss while the whole thing ends. Like that'swhere the problems end, like nothing will be wrong because of a markon someone's chest.
Mostpeople call it the Second Chance. Most people don't get one.

Johnnyis thousands of miles away from his whole life, still traveling, whenhis chest starts to hurt. Clara, sitting quiet next to him, notasking questions like why Lucy called her and why he's leaving, looksat him when he rubs it, but shedoesn't ask that question either.
Later,when he goes to curl up on a bunk and try to sleep, he stops halfwaythrough taking off his shirt. There, right over his heart, is a brandmark, a series of curves and lines. You've gone too farover the line. For a second, hisknees bend with his grief, but the universe isn't cruel. It's notpunishing him for the missed chance with Pawter, for her death. Itwants him back with someone living, someone he could be happy withfor the rest of his life. It's asking if he wants to go back, if he'ssure he's better off alone or with someone else.
Someonewho isn't Dutch.
Ofcourse she's his soulmate, the one person the universe is going togive him a second chance to go back to. Johnny only kissed her once,trying to woo her and only managing to scare her off, so he put thataway, figured she would be his partner and his best friend andeverything else but that. It never really mattered. He can love otherpeople—loved Pawter, loved a few others on the way, fucked morethan a few others—but she's always first.
Andhe's the one who chose to leave, so he's the one who gets branded.Dutch won't know. He doesn't want her to. He already hurt herleaving, but knowing that the universe wants them together will onlymake her turn away.
So heasks Clara where they're going the next morning, and she frowns athim, but she tells him.

Heleft Dutch a message when he was leaving, but he's not expecting onein return until Clara tells him “Message from Lucy, marked for younot for me. I'm going to my room, let me know when you're done.”
Johnnyhas to stare at it for a few minutes before he asks it to play—avideo message, just like the one he left. It could be Dutch shoutingand swearing, or worse, Dutch crying. It could be D'avin asking himwhere the hells he is. No options are good. He tells it to playanyway.
Dutchlooks tired when she blinks into existence on the ship's deck,wrapped up in one of his old sweaters that she stole years ago now.She doesn't look like she's going to cry or yell, though. “I knowyou said that you're getting data, even if it's not the only reasonyou're going, but we need you here,” she starts. “You're alreadymissed. You'll be missed every second you're gone. Get yourinformation, get whatever you need, and come back.”
Hecan hear all the accusations she's not making. I told youI'd run with you if you needed to, that's always been our first andbest promise. But he killed aSeyah of the Nine, and they have a war to fight. They're safest, andhe's safest, if he's not with them.
“Pleasecome back,” she repeats, and the message is over.

Dutchkeeps sending messages. Sometimes D'avin, but mostly Dutch. Afterthat first message she tries to just give him news. Some of it isabout her revolution. Some of it is about Pree's latest bottle ofhokk or Dutch and D'avin's latest death-defying adventure. He writesback, but he can't film her a video, even if she sounds confused andhurt when he just sends back data and letters. Every time he tries,he finds himself with his hand over his heart, wondering what she'dsay if she knew.

“Areyou ever going to tell me why you left her behind? The real reason, Imean, not that bullshit about protecting her. I figured you'd lasttwo days without her, not to mention Lucy.”
Johnnylooks up, surprised, from the ship's controls. Clara hasn't asked thewhole time, and there hasn't been a message from Dutch or D'avin indays to make her ask. “I'm not ready to go back. And I can't tellyou why I left.”
“Youcould get rid of the brand. People do.”
He'sthought about that, but it feels like a step too far. Dutch is alwaysgoing to be the most important person in his life, it seems. Gettingrid of the brand just makes it seem like he's lying about that. “Idon't really want to.”
“Thenwhy don't you want to go back?”
He'sscared. He could still be arrested, on a warrant or off one. Dutchcould see the brand and know it's hers and draw back from him. “Ido. I just can't yet,” he says, and Clara sighs and leaves himalone.

Itall goes wrong for a while. Clara disappears, and then she's thereagain but she's not, and Dutch is sending messages from home abouthow dangerous things are becoming, and he's almost killed and seesClara—or Olli, now—to people she seems to need, people she canmake a home and a difference with.
Andall this time, the brand on his chest has been telling him to goback, so he goes.
Johnnyexpects a hostile reception, but Lucy lets him on like he never leftand tells him where Dutch is, so he goes to her, not because of anystupid mark but because he always wants to be around her, always willwant to be around her. And she holds on tight, and it's perfect for afew minutes, even while it hurts.

Dutchdoesn't cling to him, exactly, but she stays close, and it's so easyto fall into their old rhythms that he doesn't even think to turnaround before he starts changing his shirt that night, already askingabout the new kid they've just recruited while she laughs and teaseshim that two nerds are too much for one team before she falls silent.“Oh, John,” she says, andit sounds like her heart is breaking. “Your Second Chance. You leftClara, and—”
Hewaits until he has a shirt on to answer, because he needs at leastthat much protection. He's done lying to Dutch. The fact that she'swilling to forgive him for the first lies is enough of a miracle asit is. “Clara left us long before I ever left her. You know who Idid leave?”
Johnwatches it dawn on Dutch's face. She's possessive, always has been,so she's happy, but she's devastated too, and terrified. The questionis if she's going to run, get a brand of her own. “Me,” shefinally says. “You left me.”

They'rein a war, and they don't talk about it. But sometimes Dutch leans herhead against his chest like the brand gives off heat, or like she canhear it if she's close enough. Sometimes, the nights get bad, and shetraces it out on his chest, the loops and curves that tell him justwho he left behind, and who he came back to.

Jealous Caitlin was the best. The bessssst. Every time Cisco hit on Cynthia (edited to change that name because it’s awful, I know, and I’m sorry) her face just went >:( and I died laughing.
And I kind of loved her pushing and bossing Julian around and giving him filthy looks when he punctured the room.
Point to raise: we’ve already seen, twice, how she acts around a guy she’s romantically interested/invested in. She’s soft and cuddly and starry eyed. No stars in her eyes for Julian. This is giving me hope that they’re not going to go the snowbert route and actually give us a non-boy-centric Caitlin arc.
But you guys know my bias already. I may be grasping at straws here.

for formal dressing i usually go w a dress, just because dresses are fun and i’ll take any excuse to wear them, they’re so dainty and pretty and swooshy.
favourite scent….. this one is tough but i really love the smell of camp fires
favourite book series is obvi harry potter, but i also really loved the amelia bedelia books when i was little too
