Inspiration...The Velocet is obviously informed by Stanley Kubrick’s interpretation of A Clockwork Orange. We modified our name from Moloko Vellocet, one of the varieties of drug-infused Moloko drinks at the Korova Milk Bar. But did you know our band photo is also inspired by the film - the scene where Alex is tortured upstairs while Mr. Alexander plays Beethoven from a sound system on a pool table, shown here. Hello! THE VELOCET IS BACK!!!

Hello World! This is the first official post of The Velocet in a decade!!!

So how have you been? What’s new these days? We missed you! We have been busy recently, and that’s a good thing. Here’s a quick recap of why we dropped off the face of the earth (see our extended bio here):

A Quick and Dirty Guide to War was originally released July 2007.

The band’s music was featured in film and television including the CW TV series One Tree Hill and was also available on iTunes and Spotify between 2007 and 2013.

The Velocet went on hiatus by 2008, during the music industry’s turbulent transition from brick-and-mortar and CDs, to robust streaming revenue models. This was incredibly hard for bands and labels at this time. You don't know how humbling it is to witness a Tower Records flagship store being dismantled knowing your CDs are just sitting there...

Unfortunately The Velocet’s label Eyeball Records also went defunct in 2011, amidst its struggles to curtail copyright infringement during the “Wild West” of music blogs and pirated .MP3s and the overarching sea change in the industry. Eventually Eyeball Records sold its catalog to a 3rd party entity. This included The Velocet's masters, and the band lost control of where and how its songs were placed.

Eventually, The Velocet’s music was dropped from iTunes and Spotify as this 3rd party went defunct as well. We disappeared from our fans, and we are sorry about that.

We now own 100% of our masters again!

After checking in with our old friends from Eyeball Records, we are simply STOKED to get back in touch with our friends and fans, hook up with other bands from the era’s scene, share the good memories and music on this site, and to see where this adventure continues to take us!!!

It’s good to see your face again! Happy 2019!!!
