If you follow us for rvb fanart I'm so sorry to tell you we pretty much never interact with the fandom because we're all from there as a source and everyone interprets everything differently than we do. We just do Not feel comfortable interacting with rvb fandom stuff most of the time since we feel like the show got a lot of shit wrong. Complicated relationship with source 💪

Nihilism in the Succession Arc
I’ve written extensively about Togashi’s existentialism and how it permeates Hunter x Hunter’s story. However, in the Succession Arc, Togashi seems to be employing nihilist themes much more, likely to create an even greater distinction between the two philosophies.
Theta
Firstly, the idea that Theta is “trapped” is reiterated throughout the Tserriednich plot.
Tumblr media
Salkov explains to Theta that she is the only one capable of stopping—or at least, slowing—Tserrednich’s rise to power. It’s actually Theta’s own competence, ironically, that locks her into this position. Like she says, it’s not fair: She doesn’t have a choice regarding her fate.
The idea of fairness is closely tied to nihilism in that a nihilist world can essentially be broken down into random, chaotic events. Things don’t happen for a reason—in fact, they specifically happen for no reason at all. It would seem that, thus far, there’s no special reason Theta in particular was forced into this quest. A quest which, even if she successfully completes, means death:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alternatively, if she fails, an even worse fate awaits her:
Tumblr media
If there is a meaning to Theta’s quest, it seems like something akin to divine punishment. But, as far as we know, Theta hasn’t done anything to deserve such a thing. To quote one of my favorite games, “is there no punishment greater than that for which we do not know the reason?” (Blasphemous)
Her entrapment is restated when she tells Tserriednich she knows Nen.
Tumblr media
She has to do it. She has no choice. This contrasts starkly with the existentialism of previous arcs. I suspect, however, that this is all setup for a massive existentialist turn later on.
Keeney
Probably the most overt example of nihilism in this arc, Keeney chooses to take the fall for Kacho and Fugetsu’s escape by taking his own life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keeney’s last act is a desperate grasp for meaning. His wife and daughter died in an accident—in other words, a random event, and one he had no control over. There was no reason for them to die, and this weighs heavily on Keeney. As a consequence, he decides his death (and what remains of his life) will serve a greater purpose, helping to save “two wonderful girls” (a phrase that could also be used to refer to his own wife and daughter).
However, Keeney’s plan seems to fail miserably. He succeeds in taking the fall for the escape, but the escape itself is unsuccessful, and actually leads to Kacho’s death. Not only that, but it’s discovered the two princes were actually trapped the whole time. So we have a concrete representation of being trapped (the wall of hands outside the ship) and a metaphorical representation of being trapped (Theta and Keeney, among others).
The escape chapter, for me, is not only one of the best but also one of the darkest. Hunter x Hunter has never shied away from dark themes, but there always seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel. Chapter 383, however, is incredibly bleak, and while we can imagine the escape attempt eventually benefitting our protagonists, there’s no guarantee that it will.
Kurapika
When considering the nihilist themes of the Succession Arc, it would be a mistake to forget that nihilism is at the core of Kurapika’s character arc right now.
Tumblr media
Kurapika believes that, after collecting the last of the Scarlet Eyes, his life will have no purpose. He is, of course, wrong, but he doesn’t realize that. Instead, he has trapped himself in a self-destructive cycle—one that punishes him for no reason other than his own angst and survivor’s guilt.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
There are a few other characters I believe embody the philosophy of nihilism (i.e. Sandra, who makes the brave decision to stay by Woble’s side only to quickly meet her demise), as well as others who may in the future (i.e. Halkenburg). Togashi is setting up a contrast between nihilism and existentialism, which I believe will culminate in a massive existentialist turn at the end of the arc. In the case of Theta and Keeney, it’s easy to see how their actions may have a great influence on the later story. Theta could be the one who informs others on the nature of Tserriednich’s Nen ability, while the existence of Kacho’s Nen Beast and Melody’s detainment will have trickling effects.
The climax of this arc will likely involve Kurapika’s rejection of nihilism and acceptance of his future. Freed from his quest, he will no longer be “trapped”.

Random thought: If the War Chief = the Master and therefore Magnus and Koschei are one and the same, who is the 10th member of the Deca?
I guess there's a few good candidates for classmates who weren't at odds with the Deca (unlike Runcible, Galah or Anzor). Maybe Ruath or Padrac? Or potentially some more out-there options like the Corsair (although I always imagine them probably being more around Brax's age)?
Alternative, maybe it's a group in-joke that there is no 10th member, despite the name?

ooh this is hard because i don't think there's a scene i haven't told you about in great detail. also "director's cut" takes a different meaning when we're talking about screenplays sjdkfk
i'm gonna be talking about the rooftop scene from every version of the story ends with you
this one is in two parts: the deca together and thoschei alone - though they're more authentic around their friends, theta and koschei have nothing to prove to them, they're still performative. koschei makes a show out of his attraction to theta when their friends (jokingly) reject them being affectionate:
Theta kisses [Koschei's] crown. Glances from the other Deca, ranging from curious to disgusted.
[...]
RALLON: Get a room.
KOSCHEI: Sod off.
He grabs Theta and kisses him -- [...] Koschei climbs into Theta's lap, fully snogging him now.
he takes control of the situation back because it's a joke, and he wants them to be disgusted, he wants to be a spectacle. rallon and millennia, probably as grossly smitten as gallifreyan standards allow, don't even get near their level, even when openly talking about having sex in a dorm room:
RALLON: We'll have a good night, yeah.
MAGNUS (O.S.): Not in our room.
magnus also teases koschei for being so openly affectionate, it cements his vulgarity by gallifreyan standards (and honestly our own) even more, but still within that stage persona:
MAGNUS (O.S.): Go swing with Koschei for all I care [...]
the group dynamic among all of them is fascinating, really - in another way to scream your name i had the chance to play with it a lot more during that rooftop scene and especially during eighth man bound
it doesn't make sense to me that this group of teenagers, as they're often portrayed, would genuinely dislike vansell but keep him around anyway. there's something about vansell past the duties given to him that draws him to the deca, and vice versa. he can be just as ruthless, just as relentless, but he has a strong sense of duty that happens to fall within the rules instead - here, that makes him kind of annoying:
VANSELL: Look at you all, lit up like a funeral pyre. You know we're driving tomorrow, well, I'm not getting in a TARDIS with any of you if you're like this --
THETA: Get lost, Nosebung.
but even though theta rejects him in the moment, he later on admits that he's got a point (or at least uses him in an attempt to defuse the awkwardness between him and koschei):
THETA: Do you think Vansell's right? Maybe we should get back.
(jelpax, who wasn't in this fic at all but very present in the first academy script, occupies a similar role to vansell while being more lenient in everything. he's more focused on harmony as well as sticking to some rules, but the strong personalities in the deca overpower him - he sticks around to make sure no one gets hurt too badly. some rules can be broken, more than they should maybe, but as long as he's there to keep an eye on it everything will be fine)
the stage persona koschei shows everyone falls away completely around theta. theta doesn't notice it - he's used to koschei performing, he can't always tell when he's being genuine. it's koschei's self preservation backfiring on him:
Koschei leans in to kiss Theta again, soft, tentative. Theta ducks out of the way.
THETA: They've left, you don't have to pretend anymore.
it's the first rejection of many - they've always been affectionate, sharing a bed as children, constantly touching, sucking face less than a minute ago, but it's the first time koschei crosses the line between platonic and romantic affection. theta's rejection wounds him; he immediately creates distance, but can't resist trying again:
KOSCHEI: What do you think of Rallon and Millennia?
THETA (grimaces): Obnoxious.
theta signals disinterest in romance as a whole - he doesn't see the similarities between them and the deca's "real" couple, thoschei usually well overshooting their displays of affection. when koschei points out their hypocrisy, theta affirms his point, solidifying his rejection:
KOSCHEI: They’ve acted like they’re married from the day they met.
THETA: Not that different from the way we act.
KOSCHEI: And?
THETA: We’re not a couple.
what koschei doesn't know is that the cigarettes from just before - a gift to create closeness after the first rejection - created tension because of their disparate social statuses. oakdown is wealthy and well regarded, koschei talks about his family often, the matriarch of oakdown is influential and koschei will have the same status one day (he already does; he's treated with more respect by teachers, and while he has the academic achievement to warrant it, it's harder for theta to prove himself even without that barrier). lungbarrow isn't affluent enough to buy clothes without holes in them; theta wears what he has until it's unusable. sending a child to the academy - the centuries of education - is expected, but barely possible. koschei doesn't rub it in, but he doesn't make a secret of it, and proves to theta that he's superior. all this, unsurprisingly, doesn't help seduce someone already battling inferiority complexes so extreme that later in life they run off to another planet to be the smartest and specialest boy forever
while theta feels their tension, he doesn't know what's going on in koschei's mind. he feels the clash of koschei's persona and true self, the way he pulls back to save face when he's rejected - once when theta asks him to stop acting, and again when theta reaffirms that they're friends
they're both dancing on a line between friendship and romance, keeping each other locked in balance, and koschei leaning to one side makes the whole precarious dynamic wobble. they don't really recover from it: koschei teases harmlessly and theta is offended, theta reaches out and koschei gets shy. something's in the air and they're both trying to feel around something invisible, getting a sense of its shape without cutting themselves on the sharp edges. koschei and theta understand each other so well that they have no clue how to deal with this, their views of each other have never clashed this heavily
i can't say how they'll turn out - we know how it ends, right? we know what happens. but maybe they'll be okay for now <3

Ok, I am going to say it: making an episode of rick & morty saying it's going to suck doesn't mean because you admit it it became good.
I can't remember every rick and morty episode in full detail. If you can, get a life. But I do remember my most hated, by far.
It was the meta train episode.
And they fucking brought back the fucking antagonist.
AND they basically created/killed characters based on writing (twist, previously on, retcon*, etc).
It was lazy. Even if they pointed out it was lazy, it was fucking lazy.
The only funny part of this episode, which I entirely relate too, and is one of their last jokes: A writer writing a story about a writer (I have an entire SCREEN PLAY written to that).
Besides that, this is probably one of the top 5 worst rick & morty episodes. Pointing out how to suck doesn't make you suckless. I said it on she-hulk: you break the 4th wall enough, there's no stakes, no consequences, no fun.
I mean the after credits scene was clearly the voice of the show (justin) improvising, again, but it's fucking terrible. The animations, tho pointless, are more interesting than what he was saying (hashtag. Over and over. Being meta can get stupid too).
I swear, I said it once, I will say it again: when it comes to ANY business or art, once it gets high enough, it never gets smart enough to hire someone to keep it in check. fucking ego.
I promise, this show will not get better. NEUTRAL. PLATEAU? Sure. But never get better.
FUCK. They even made a joke on how everyone says go back to season 1 adventures, so they KNOW it's true.
*the only good part of this episode, IF they use it, was retcon. They could make an amazing mental/doctor who level fight with retcon if they bring him back. 4th wall and meta? Sure. But the concept is...kinda genius, unlike everything else in this piece of shit episode. LAZY! How many writers do you have? And if you say just the 2, no wonder the show went to shit.

Things that are in both RvB and doctor who
Theta
Sigma
Doc
Characters who use fake names starting with 'the' (the director, the counseler, the meta / the doctor, the master, the monk etc)
Time travel
Aliens
A character living the same events slightly differently over and over again with the end goal of finding the woman they love (the epsilon unit / Heaven Sent)
A blonde/red head mother/daughter duo (Allison/Carolina and Amy/River)
There is at least one tank in both
Mpreg
Both are in space
Multiple characters who frequently come back from the dead
The main character had a whole life before their current one but had their memory wiped so they don't remember it
Robot dog ? Does freckles actually count as a dog
A massive intergalactic war
A city that was destroyed during a war (Armonia / Arcadia)
A device that can wipe out all life on a planet (the purge / the death particle + the moment)
A situation where space and time starts to fall apart because someone stopped another character being injured/killed (singularity / the wedding of river song)
"Doctor" who is pacificist but may still kill you
This isnt something the same, I just want to add that rvb and dw actually had a complete opposite situation, in rvb a character who thinks they're human finds out they're an AI, and in DW a character who thinks they're an android finds out they're actually a human

Sometimes I remember that we never saw North die in the show

Hey, uh.
We need to talk about Recovery One, and more specifically South (and Wash but that's a given for me).
Here are the relevant facts:
1. The AI were all supposed to be pulled after the Epsilon incident and put into storage.
2. There is a deleted scene that shows North carrying South to safety after their battle on the MoI.
3. Wash did not know that North still had Theta.
4. South and North were together when Wash showed up to recover Theta.
5. South got North killed, even if it was Meta that struck the blow.
6. Wash assumes South being left alive was bait to slow Wash down, because Wash had Delta, and the Meta wants the AI.
7. Wash: “In the past month I’ve been ordered to the sites of five different dying Freelancers in an effort to recover their intelligence programs.” This might have been retconned; before seasons nine and ten it was implied if not outright stated that many agents had AI fragments, not just those on the leaderboard, but after seasons nine and ten it seems like there were only a few AI that were then given to only some of the top agents. Of them, only North and York had their equipment recovered by Wash.
8. South was in the recovery force before and during her time with Wash. Her mission was to draw the enemy out, without Wash catching on that she was working for the Recovery Force, so that a new strategy could be devised to take the Meta down.
9. Command’s profile of Wash indicated that he would not kill South despite being ordered to. Wash says he kept South alive because he knows he can’t take down the Meta by himself. Delta confirms that Wash’s “battle rating” is too low, according to Freelancer’s records.
10. Taking Wash out was not in South's mission statement, nor was taking Delta and running. South chose to do those things on her own.
Conclusions:
Both South and North stayed with the program even after the “attack on Command” (the crash).
It would make sense for PFL to want to keep close tabs on North since he had an AI, and if he refused to give up Theta, they probably wouldn’t have tried to force him for fear of scaring him off. If anything, they would have used South against him to make him stay, because North obviously stayed for South. He saw the writing on the wall and loved his sister enough to first fight her instead of leaving her to Tex, then continued working at the organization he knew was off (even if he never figured out why) to keep an eye on her.
South stayed because she wanted an AI. South wanted to be acknowledged as her own person, as good enough on her own. To her, an AI was a symbol of her independent success (ironically enough), and as short sighted as she was she really didn’t think much beyond that. PFL took advantage of that. Additionally, South likely resented North for having saved her from Tex. (Side note, South got North killed in an effort to save herself, but I believe that it was a heat of the moment decision. Still shows how her love for him had cooled.) South also resented the program for blue-balling her, not to mention still pairing her with North after everything. And she probably realized that they were lying again about giving her an AI. She had no evidence that she could trust Wash, either, and so shot him in the back and took Delta.
It’s possible that North and South were both part of the Recovery Force, and Wash showed up to the aftermath of a mission gone wrong - the same mission of drawing out the Meta. If that’s true, Wash was kept completely in the dark not only about South and any other Recovery agents, but also about PFL’s knowledge of the Meta. He figured out on his own that something was hunting down Freelancers; no one told him that, even if they put him in a position to figure it out. This actually brings up some interesting implications for why Wash was chosen for the Recovery Force. Wash himself says that it’s because they knew he would never steal an AI for his own purposes, but you know who else would know that? Maine, because seemingly every Freelancer knew what happened to Wash:
South: “Epsilon went insane and killed itself inside his head! And from what I heard from the other recruits, he went nuts himself. Weren’t you certified Article 12 after that? Unfit for duty.”
Wash: “The people who certified me were the same people that uncertified me. Which, once they needed me, they did. Funny how the system works.”
Delta: “In either case, he is the logical choice. It is highly unlikely Wash would attempt to steal an AI for his own purposes.”
“Once they needed me”. Why would they need Wash for this job? I think it's because their agents, Recovery Force or not, were being killed for their AI.  Wash probably recovered some of them himself. They needed someone who not only wouldn’t steal an AI, but would never even consider implanting one under any circumstances. Ideally it would also be someone Maine would be hesitant to kill, someone he knew. Wash was the most likely person to survive in the Recovery Force.
In conclusion, Agent South Dakota was an agent of chaos and had she succeeded in killing Wash or if she had lived the entire plot past season 5 would have turned out differently and we were kinda robbed of her and Felix interacting.

This might be a weird request, and I don’t know if it falls under Freelancers or AI, but could you please do a platonic concept of the Meta from Halo RVB? Something like when the darling is around, he feels more human-like until eventually all the fragments start obsessing over them and associating them with that sense of humanity to the point where they decide they have to keep the darling with them at all times.
If it isn’t clear I have simped over every villain in this show a half dozen times each, I formerly apologize for the burst of requests and will now return to dormancy.
I... I think The Meta counts as a freelancer due to Agent Maine? You have a good point. Either way, not too weird, I can probably make a concept work along these lines.
Also, I don't mind. I love Red vs Blue lol. Been awhile since I saw the seasons featuring The Meta so I went off memory for the plot 😅 He acts the same/similar platonic and romantic but I tried to keep this just platonic.
Yandere! Platonic! The Meta Concept
Pairing: Platonic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Violence, Kidnapping, Obsession, Murder, Possessive behavior, Manipulation, Mental issues due to AI fragments, Feral yandere, Threats, Stalking.
Tumblr media
The Meta is certainly feral.
This is because Maine was always someone who had a violent temper and spoke more through actions than words.
Now? The Meta has a ton of different voices trying to dictate him on what to do.
He can't really listen to them all so he just focuses on two things.
He wants power and perfection.
Maine himself wants power.
The fragments want perfection, they want to be more human.
The original plan was to rebuild Alpha to feel complete.
Then The Meta comes across you by chance.
You may be another agent, someone aiding the Reds and Blues.
Maine is probably looking for power even if he is a bit distant mentally.
Yet when you try to distract him or even damage him, he takes interest.
The fragments may even recognize you as an agent if you are one and keep you in mind.
It appears they need to be mindful of you along with Washington and South Dakota.
A platonic view of you would be very similar to a romantic view of you when it comes to The Meta.
It takes a long time before it's situated within him.
Using cloaking tehcnology, he stalks you like a hunting animal.
Something about you sparks a strive to pursue you.
The fragments in his head certainly agree.
Gamma keeps saying they should manipulate you to their side.
Delta is trying to give logic and reason on how you'll act if they take you.
Theta sees you like a parental figure similar to York and imprints on you.
Omega is full of rage towards those around you and you for distracting their plan.
Sigma is also manipulative and has ambition. He's similar to Gamma, but says how you could aid them to be perfect.
The Twins agree with them and calculate how to make it all work.
For the most part the fragments are going to be controlling this obsession.
They're guiding and manipulating Maine as The Meta to chase you down.
Alpha is important for their plan, yes, but so are you.
In an attempt to achieve humanity, The Meta chases you like an animal.
He stalks you from the shadows, growling being heard yet you can never find the source.
It isn't until he eventually pounces that you realize you're in trouble.
The Meta will hold you down, restraining you with snarls as he tries to subdue you.
One way or another, most likely by damaging your helmet/head, The Meta will knock you down and out before running off with you.
He'll most likely be shot at on the way out, Washington refusing to allow him to leave.
During this The Meta does everything in his power to shield you from stray bullets.
The Meta is a beast who's obsessive towards his goal of power, perfection, and humanity.
By the time you wake up you can barely move, the area you're in is a temporary hideout of The Meta.
Your head throbs painfully and your body is hard to move.
Meanwhile The Meta is sitting beside you, watching you like a hawk.
Caring for you makes him feel human... makes him feel complete.
Once he finds Alpha, he'll truly be the best he can be.
The Meta is very animalistic in his obsession.
He's incredibly violent when angered and acts so possessive of you.
The Meta would attempt to be caring towards you due to Theta and Delta.
Meanwhile he's controlling due to Gamma and Sigma, using manipulation to keep you.
The fragments definitely guide most of the obsession.
Maine himself is somewhat there but he is mostly a puppet.
He just listens to them and they control his behavior.
Physical affection is a bit difficult for him.
His grip is tight but he is mindful of not crushing you through your armor.
Most of The Meta's communication is through grunts and growls.
Even when he's trying to be affectionate and calming towards you, it sounds so aggressive.
The Meta would kill anyone around you in an instant.
Both Maine and the fragments feel others with you are a threat.
They can't just allow someone to take their key to humanity, can they?
Which leads to The Meta hunting people around you to keep you to himself.
The Meta is probably one of the strongest RvB yandere.
This is due to his strength and durability, along with the feral nature.
The Meta may also express different "moods" due to the AI?
He's usually cruel and manipulative, behavior rather threatening towards you.
Other times he's affectionate and docile, but only around you.
The Meta struggles understanding companionship due to all the voices ruining his mental state.
Yet, he knows to be gentle with you.
It's strange how this big strong threat softens towards you.
You can almost consider the killing machine a friend...
Unfortunately such feelings are forced as his aggression and strength scare you.

okay i hate replies i’m making a post
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@entrancedsnow70
first, i just wanna establish that my original point was just to say that south did not kill north. no matter your interpretation of her actions, the fact that the meta is the one who killed north is canon fact and i get very tired of people saying otherwise. it’s very tiring to have people constantly put all the blame onto the woman when it was literally a man who did it. i’m sure you can understand why it exhausted me to see that being said on a post where i’m talking about misogyny.
that being said, i want to examine your suggested interpretation of south. i strongly disagree that it was “heavily implied”— in fact, i would argue that it makes so sense at all.
you’re saying that south deliberately set north up to be killed in order to have the meta come, take theta, not kill her for some reason, then for wash to show up with delta, give her delta, then her to shoot wash and have the meta go after him instead of her, and then for her to betray freelancer and run away with delta. that whole plan from just learning that wash had delta.
south is characterized as underhanded, yes, but not once is she characterized as being a mastermind ten steps ahead type. in fact, she’s consistently characterized as the exact opposite. her first scene in freelancer is her not being able to foresee the very obvious consequences of not setting up her trackers. and her last scene is her pointing a rocket launcher at tex. that is not the action of someone who has incredible foresight and meticulous planning skills. especially considering she then proceeds to get her ass kicked by north.
and if you wanna say, well, maybe she changed after freelancer, the thing is, she didn’t. in season 6 she’s right back to not being able to foresee the very obvious consequences of her actions, even when they are deliberately stated to her. TUMBLR WONT LET ME FUCKING PASTE it’s season 6 episode 4 delta tells south that he thinks following wash is dangerous because “others” may also be following him. the next time we see south she is being attacked by the meta.
so, in the theory that south actively conspired to cause north’s death to get delta, that means that she heard wash got delta, was able to predict the actions of wash, command, north, and the meta meticulously and flawlessly to pull her plan off, then the second she actually got delta (someone who we literally see is capable of meticulously and flawlessly predict a person’s actions), she suddenly isn’t able to predict and plan for the very obvious outcome of the meta attacking her and trying to take delta back. or alternatively, she WAS able to predict it, and even though she was willing to kill two men, one of whom was her brother, to get this thing, her plan is just to. give delta up? at the first sign of resistance? why would she be able to outsmart everyone to get what she wants but then the second she has what she wants she’s an idiot who doesn’t care about the thing she has anyway?
and why would delta not tell church all this? delta wants church to trust him, and that means trusting his decision to kill south. something that church is actively doubting. if you have the fact that south actively planned to get two people killed to get to delta, that’s a really strong thing to say to get him to think killing her was a good decision! why say the vague “she put him in a position to be killed” if there’s the clear fact of her conspiring to kill people to get an ai?
i just cannot believe that south would go through all of that to get delta only to give him up immediately.
even the one thing i would agree is south preplanning (getting delta, shooting wash, then escaping pfl) wasn’t her plan, it was command’s plan that she just added on to.
i really think that south’s characterization in 9 and 10 was supposed to show us that she is impulsive and shit at decision making. she’s reactive, not proactive. if they wanted us to think she was a conniving mastermind they could have written her like that. but they actively did not. thinking that south had a master plan to kill north to get delta leaves so many holes. thinking that south was just. reacting to the things happening to her in the moment with no plan of what to do next except “survive until tomorrow” makes all of her actions make perfect sense.
