2/22/24 – Open 6-9p. Mask recommended. No open drinks, please.
Two very interesting books from a pile of new arrivals. Are they Philosophy? Writing? Sociology? I love the challenge of shelving cross-topic books. I'll probably put them in Science... Or, just let them float around the tables for a bit and see who finds them first. 😉

We will glitter again, amidst the black doom that weaves nightly through our consciousness.
We will usurp the powers of dread, knocking down our locked love doors. When the moon is shimmering full, it foretells the coming conquest of night and its false sense of drapery. Among these hidden potential poisons, we whisk ourselves a cocktail to settle heart & mind.
Who do these eyes think they're looking for? Where does the cosmic trust form in our hands? We must rise to seek the day through tumbling hills and forests, through lapping seabeds (threatening to slip our feet from the rocks), and by smoke-grey clouds that sleep across the skyline. There is but one heaven in our veins.
We know it by the trail of our faded soul dust, streaking across the valleys we traverse in seeking solace.
We will glitter again, but with stronger bones to hold us up.

People don't want to be informed. Mostly they want to react and be passionately moved. That's why it's easier for us to think that we are innately sinners because it's more convenient to heroically challenge evil than be scientific about it. And it takes a really well informed mind with a belief that we could be better human beings if only we look into our nature honestly to really write these books that are patient with arguments and inclusive of the misinformed. I rank #TheBetterAngelsofOurNature as a bible when I muse about humanity and history. It stops me from glorifying the past and sneering at the future. And if you haven't read any of #StevenPinker's books, I highly recommend them. They look thick and scary but trust me, he's the kindest and wittiest voice in nonfiction you'll ever read. Don't mind the spinebending crimes in this photo, they are evidence that I've struggled and loved these books. Except the language instinct which I haven't read, keeping it for the rainy days. #books #bookstagram #instabook #igreads #nonfiction #thesenseofstyle #thelanguageinstinct #thestuffofthought #igreads #history #psychology #language #humanism #philosophy #science #postoftheday
