Once they were sat at the bar, Lorcan stared Alannah down, even though she said she was sorry and genuinely looked it, he wasn’t going to make this easy for her!

LORCAN: Okay, explain yourself! Who are you for a second cousin and where did you appear from?

ALANNAH: Rowena’s grandmother, Constance, and my grandmother, Octavia, are sisters. I’m almost 7 years older than Rowena but we were close when she was growing up.

LORCAN: So how come she’s never mentioned you if you’re so close?

ALANNAH: There’s always been a rift between our grandmas. They fell out a very long time ago over a man, long story! My mum and Rowena’s Aunt stayed close and we spent holidays and birthdays together. But then things got worse when I was chosen to be the next coven leader when my great grandfather dies, which Goddess only knows when that will be. It made things even more bitter within our family and we just...lost touch!

LORCAN: I see, so you thought hey I haven’t seen Rowena for a while, why don’t I go to Newcrest and fuck up her life a bit, eh?

ALANNAH: No, Clayton Boudreaux contacted my mother and grandmother informing us that a shapeshifter had corrupted Rowena. He...he made it sound like she and the rest of the Stewarts were in danger...

LORCAN: Bullshit, the only danger to Rowena is fucking Boudreaux himself!

LORCAN: Wait, where are you going?

ALANNAH: I can’t discuss this here, let’s go sit away from the bar where we can’t be heard, I’ve already compromised our family enough, I don’t need eavesdroppers going back to Clayton!

LORCAN: Gee, it really sounds that way!

ALANNAH: You have to see her as the dog, until her memories are fully restored. They need to return piece by piece not in a big bang. Do you understand?

LORCAN: *sighs* Looks like no matter what happens, Boudreaux wins! He always fucking wins!

ALANNAH: No Lorcan, he won’t! Not if we do this the right way! He’s in love with Rowena, he won’t hurt her so it gives us enough time to fix this whole mess!

LORCAN: How can I compete with that? He’s loaded, he’s good looking, he probably has an anaconda in his trousers...

ALANNAH: Well you’re carrying a pretty impressive package yourself so I wouldn’t worry where that’s concerned! *blush*

LORCAN: I knew you were checking it out! Dirty witch!

ALANNAH: Oh come on, it was right there in my face! Anyway you may not be loaded Lorcan, but you’re good looking too! It’s not Clay that Rowena loves, it’s you! She’s a very lucky girl!

LORCAN: Are you sure you don’t want a drink?

ALANNAH: No thank you.

LORCAN: Well I need one!

ALANNAH: I just need to explain so that you don’t hate me...well...so that you hate me a little less than you already do.

LORCAN: I don’t hate you! I don’t know you to hate you! I just...hate what has happened to Rowena, because of you!

ALANNAH: I know Lorcan, and if I could change things, I would! In fact...I removed the sigil and the spell that went with it, because I realised that Clayton was playing me and my whole family! He offered me one million simoleans to do the job, he still hasn’t paid up, when he started making excuses yesterday I knew he had no intentions of giving me the money. Daddy is rich, but Clayton still has to prove himself in order to get his inheritance.

LORCAN: If you knew that then why did you accept his offer?

ALANNAH: Well, first of all I went in blind and only did my research after I’d cast the spell. Secondly if I didn’t accept then he would have slaughtered everyone! Clayton is the only male Boudreaux in his bloodline who hasn’t massacred an entire coven. He needs Aunt Connie for her potions, whatever she does it helps him to wander around in the daylight and not go up in flames.

LORCAN: Pity, I’d pay to see that show!

ALANNAH: You have to understand, the money was essential for me, my father is a complete asshole! He beat my mother all through their marriage, when she finally found the courage to leave he threatened to expose our entire family as witches. Del Sol Valley doesn’t take too kindly to things they don’t understand, we’d probably be killed by an angry pitchfork carrying mob! I need that money to pay him off and get him out of our lives!

LORCAN: I get it, you feel bad and so you should. Family is the most important thing to me, apart from Rowena, there is no way in hell I would sell my soul to the devil for a million simoleans and fuck over a family member in the process.

ALANNAH: Well, maybe that’s what makes you a better person than me. Look Lorcan I know I screwed up, but everyone was pressuring me into saving the family and making a considerable amount of money in the process. I’m not even 30 yet and the whole world is on my shoulders!

Alannah sniffed back a tear as Lorcan began to feel sorry for her, for the first time since he’d met her, he felt sorry for her!

Lorcan felt uneasy about entering Glimmerbrook again after all these years. His grandparents still lived there and owned half the town, in fact the Winterdrakes were the town! Alannah Beckett stood waving her arms around explaining why she chose this place to talk, he wasn’t stupid!

LORCAN: Look Alannah cut the crap! I know exactly what you did to Rowena! I looked up that sigil you marked her with, Oblivscere? To wipe her memory of something i.e. me?

ALANNAH: Oh Lorcan, I’m so sorry!

LORCAN: Are you though? What does Boudreaux have over you to make you do that to a member of your own family?

ALANNAH: Everything! He could slaughter our entire bloodline and coven! Please Lorcan can we go inside and talk? Vampires can’t come into this particular bar, they can wander Glimmerbrook but most of the buildings are vampire safe.

Lorcan looked up at the bar in question, it was oddly familiar to him, probably because he had lived in this town up until he was 17. He followed Alannah reluctantly into the building, he had to get answers for Rowena’s sake!
