god bless birdy's patience tbh if I started a music career at 15 and my (both pretty mid) debut + second album blew up and the (slightly less mid but still mid) 3rd album did pretty good too then I hiatus for ~4.5 years coming back with an album that was so, so much better and more artistically developed than any of that and it didn't have anywhere near the same impact I'd have a joker moment

#my rambles #yh was a vast refinement of everything that came before #and portraits can be really rough in places but it's also her coming into her own stylistically #lower lows but really high highs #....so of course her most popular/famous songs are still the ones from her old albums #I'd have a joker moment honestly #birdy #tbc I call her stuff mid affectionately #I complain a lot about her music probably a bit too much tbh but I do love it lol #mostly the post-piano sketches stuff but yk #there's stuff in beautiful lies I really like (lifted; shadow; winter etc) and her live versions of #fire within songs can be pretty great too #but the stuff I love is in the post hiatus era #discord transplant
