Um… I guess I don’t see him as gay? Like I HC him as bi with a leaning towards girls, maybe he had a few girlfriends in middle school since he was the star athlete of his middle school? He also probably takes a good while to realize he can like boys AND girls, denies he’s gay but Mishima just reminds him one day that being bi is a thing and Ryuji just. “…oh.”

I was sent in a Der Freischütz backstory made by @theobnoxiouswindfish and needless to say I really, really like it (as well as got permission to put it in one post like this!)
Der Frei started life as the youngest of four kids to a family living in the forest, growing up as a rough and tumble child, and the only dfab of the kids. He's always been a sharp shot from practice with his parent's rifles and just because... he was a good shot. However, at the time, he wanted to serve in the military but couldn't, so he dressed as a man and enrolled anyway, leaving his family without a notice due to their relations being rocky.
Der Frei was quick to go up in ranks, despite having a secluded nature to hide his secret and just because he grew up far away from everyone else. On his travels with the military, Der Frei met a young lady that he became smitten with, but had an excessive amount of inner turmoil over everything that he was. To his dismay, the military discovered he was not amab, and gave him the boot - disgraced and alone, he falls into the arms of the lady who he fell in love with.
She accepted Der Frei for who he was, and she was the daughter of a well off duke. They made a scheme to have Der Frei kill her father and her brother, so they could wed with Frei as a man and be able to share a life. Der Frei finds the magic bullets, but he was sworn to kill his lover should he use them - and, of course, use them he did. Der Frei killed his lover when, by sheer accident, she walked in the way as he pulled the trigger. Der Frei was devestated.
After her death, Der Frei ran away. The devil made a deal with Der Frei's broken heart, claiming that if he were to plant a bullet in his own heart, he could see her again. Der Frei takes the shot, but he uses the magic bullet, and turns into a demon instead. It's a slow, over time transformation, causing him to shift and turn in painful spurts until he is what we know today. He was commissioned by the facility, until they realized he was an abnormality
