How would you rank the various PMMM spinoffs?

For the purposes of this list, I'm just counting the manga. Obviously this is just my personal opinion, but I'd put them in this order. I have enjoyed every spinoff I've read!

The Different Story: Pretty much flawless imo, and an absolute must-read for all fans of the original anime. It gives so much additional depth and development to the Holy Quintet, especially Kyoko and Mami.

Tart Magica: Another stellar manga that's pretty much tied for first place. Easily the best of the independent spinoff manga imo. The characters are really likable, and even if you're not normally into historical fiction (like me) it's cool to read about the Hundred Years' War and Joan of Arc's life (as the mangaka includes a lot of notes). Seeing magical girls in a historical setting is also super interesting.

Magia Record (manga): The game and anime are their own things, but I love the game a lot and feel like the manga has been a great adaptation so far. The anime ended up being a big disappointment (at least to me) so I'm hopeful the manga will eventually be a way for people to access the story of Magia Record. Knock on wood it doesn't get axed before they finish the story of Arc 1!

Oriko Magica: Another solid entry, although I think you should be required to read Sadness Prayer after you read the original Oriko Magica manga. Sadness Prayer greatly fleshes out the characters and story of the original manga (it takes place a little before and during the events of Oriko Magica, showing things we didn't see or explaining things better). Not to mention the art very much improved by Sadness Prayer too; I know a lot of people who won't even touch Oriko Magica because of how wonky the art is, lol. Despite the art being off-putting sometimes, I would still recommend the Oriko Magica series because Oriko and Kirika are such great characters.

The Wraith Arc: I'm a bit more lukewarm on this entry. I do like it, but I think it could have benefitted from another volume or two to flesh out the story some more. Which is a shame, because this is pretty much the only look we have so far at Madokami's new universe where Witches no longer exist (Rebellion takes place in Homulilly's barrier, and Magia Record takes place in a unique timeline where Madokami does exist but she can't interfere in this one universe). I still think it's worth a read and as always, Hanokage's art is gorgeous.

Suzune Magica: Great concept, not so great execution. I love the idea of a magical girl serial killer who kills other magical girls to "save" them from the fate of becoming a Witch, but the story feels so rushed. Especially the last volume, which really could have benefitted from another volume or two to flesh out the motivations and actions of the surprise antagonist. I do like the characters in this manga, though. Worth a read, but I'd put it low on the priority list.

Kazumi Magica: Imo the worst spinoff. It was drawn by a hentai artist, so the magical girl designs and some scenes can be... uncomfortable, lol (not, like, explicit but definitely ecchi). The story itself is kind of a disjointed mess, and even with 5 volumes it feels like the there wasn’t enough time for the writer to flesh out all the different plot elements. I think it's worth noting that Kazumi Magica was published when the anime was initially airing, so it's entirely possible the writer didn't know all the intricacies of the PMMM universe and had to go back and contradict himself/come up with alternate explanations. It definitely gives a sense of "early installment weirdness" that the other spinoffs don't have (even Oriko Magica, which was published at the same time as Kazumi Magica). I'm a sucker for all things PMMM so I enjoyed it anyway, lol.

homura being like one degree away from having a full scale psychotic episode in wraith arc (aka she was canonically starting to think madoka was some sort of dream or hallucination she had, and also was willingly letting an Eldritch Horror Entity stay in her home bc it looked like madoka to her) isn't talked about enough in the pmmm fandom. forget rebellion, homura was Very Unwell loooong before then.

It started a couple of months ago. You kept getting up and being led to the edge of the forest. Always before you made it too deep though you managed to shake off whatever was calling you in. It's been getting harder though. And tonight you're particularly tired...

You don't even notice you've gotten up till you're standing on a trail leading into the woods. Bare feet softly pad against the dirt and rocks as you make your way in a trance toward the lake. Everything in the woods is eerily quiet. It's just the wind. And the soft constant sound of the lake in the distance.

You're more conscious part of your mind is panicking. Scratching at the back of your head like a viscous animal. Trying to get you to wake up. Snap out of it. But the haze that surrounds the rest of you can't register it. It's like hearing screaming from down the street.

When you get to the lakeside you shiver when you wade into the water but it doesn't stop your steady pace. Soon you swim down into the ruins. The ever-present allure makes it easy to overcome any fear you might of had.

When you finally break the suffice of the water again you panting. The shock of the cold air has woken you up a bit more and you glance around the ancient temple. Dragging your body up out of the water to rest on the shore for a moment. You're starting to come back down to earth and it's causing you to panic.

Your hand slips on the smooth tiles smearing dirt and mud across your already-soaked clothes. You pull yourself up from the ground carefully cradling your hurt arm.

It's too dark to see really. There's just a soft light coming in from the water but that's about it. Your haze is almost completely gone as you rest against the wall and think about how you're supposed to get out of here.

Then you're suddenly surrounded by something warm. Like a blanket covering you you still shiver as you feel soft delicate hands trace up your stomach to your chest

Your heart practically stops as the movement keeps going like it's trying to soothe you but when you move to look at the thing that's holding you so gently you meet with something terrifying. Its face is a twisted maw of sharp teeth and wide black eyes gaze at you. Stands of silvery hair cover the more gnarled bits of its face and body naked as it is. You can see a writhing mass of fumbling ever moving limbs and tentacles attached to uts torso and a necklace that hangs around its collarbones dangling down to its pale chest, Ancient looking. The metal and string are tarnished and old. Bits of bone and jewels hang off the mangled jewelry. You're tempted...oh so tempted to take it

But when you reach out for it your eyes wide the thing grabs your arm with multiple limbs and screeches loudly. The old temple seems to shake with the noise as it wrestles you down to the ground easily. The thing is drooling over you the many limbs keeping you pinned easily. Its black eyes meet yours and there's nothing behind them...

It isn't long before it tears your clothes off sharp claws dragging against your skin ripping and tearing into every part of you until you're completely bare. All of its limbs work together to pull your legs up and pin them to your chest so hard it's difficult to breathe. Multiple tentacles slide over your hole as you squirm and try to choke out cries for help but nothing seems to stop the thing as it presses one of the larger tentacles into you ruthlessly.

Your body tenses up but the creature shutters above you. It must have been so long...

You shake off the thought trying to keep control. This thing doesn't deserve sympathy for raping you. You try and fight it off as best you can as you're fucked against the temple floor your body hurts as it continues to stuff as much of its slimy tentacle into your body

Its gaping sharp toothed mouth drools all over you as it continues to stuff you full. Tongue sliding between is teeth as it continues to hold you. Other tentacles pick up and start to fondle and grope your body coating you in slime.

It's comfortable...warm... you should just give in

You shake off that thought and try to focus again. How do you get this thing off of you?!

You start to feel a bulge at the end of the tentacle and it presses against you. Your body is on fire as you try and resist it.

Why are you resisting..?

You relax and It's not long before the bulge forces its way into you. You can feel it settling into your guts. Your body is tense when the tentacle bulges again. Dropping another slimy egg into your body. They're heavy. The thing over top of you seems so satisfied with your cooperation...

They deserve to be satisfied.

When it pulls out you've lost track of how many heavy eggs you've taken in. Your body is slick and warm still your stomach bulging out a bit.

The creature on top of you keeps licking at your delicate flesh tasting your skin and letting its hands play in the slime that coats your body.

When you finally wake up again you're surprised to find yourself still in the temple. Your stomach hurts so much as you try and leave.

But before you can You can feel someone tugging on you a bit.

Stay

And you do. The figure steps in front of you and smiles. A beautiful ghost... so pretty and soft looking. The only thing you seem to notice about it is the necklace that hangs off of them. It reaches out and places a warm hand on your stomach, the feeling sends shivers up your spine as you relax into its touch.

And you stay

Hi! Is there an order/best way to watch Madoka and the others "spinoffs"? (and it is the same for the manga?) I would like to but I am not sure where to begin. It is like Precure with no real order between the series? or do I have to watch some to understand the others? It looks very complex with so many characters and timelines! Thanks!

Hi there! I'm glad there's someone who's interested in getting into the PMMM extended universe!

First of all, you can read my rankings/reviews of the spinoffs here and find links to read/summaries of them written by me here.

Secondly, there's not really a right or wrong order to watch/read most of the spinoffs in. But you should definitely watch the original anime first, followed by the Rebellion movie. That lays the groundwork for everything, plus they're just the best entries overall.

Aside from that, the PMMM spinoffs can be categorized by whether they're directly related to the main PMMM story (meaning they include characters/plotlines from PMMM) or feature an entirely original cast of characters and story. I'll outline them below:

Direct spinoffs:

The Different Story

The Wraith Arc

Oriko Magica and its spinoffs

The PSP game

Tons of other lesser-known spinoffs/gag manga like Homura's Revenge, Homura Tamura, etc

Original spinoffs:

Tart Magica

Suzune Magica

Kazumi Magica

Magia Record (this one is hard to categorize because it largely features original characters and an original plot, but characters from the original PMMM series do show up. However, they have less of an impact as the story continues and most fans agree that they were only really present to help sell the game to older fans (not that that's a bad thing, they're utilized pretty well). Overall I would categorize this as far more of an original spinoff than a direct one)

Most of the spinoffs are standalones and don't really require any prior knowledge of other spinoffs to enjoy. I will say that if you get really deep into the Magia Record game and not just the manga adaptation that there's a lot of overlap with the spinoffs in things like events, magical girl personal stories, etc. Nearly all of the spinoff magical girls are playable in Magia Record so that's something to keep in mind. But it doesn't really affect the main story.
