i just found this random piece i wrote a couple years ago inspired by the untitled goose game, but as a fairy tale- and shockingly, i really like it and i'm still pretty proud of it, so i thought i'd post it here :D

Once upon a time, in a palace along the coast of a small country in Europe, there lived a princess. She was widely regarded as the most beautiful woman throughout the lands, and many were envious of her good looks. Suitors would line up to take her hand, but she would turn them away, one by one. Nobody was good enough in her eyes; they all were beneath her.

Her stepmother became tired of her behavior, thinking her to be ungrateful. Rumors had been spread around the kingdom, thinking that the king only married her to get away from another woman. She grew envious of the princess: she could have any man she desired in the blink of an eye, but the stepmother was only seen as an escape from somebody else.

The stepmother approached an old woman on the outskirts of the kingdom, and demanded that she assist her with her plan. Teach her how to perform magic, and she could have anything she wanted- jewels, gold, wealth. Anything to get her revenge on the girl. But the woman only asked for one thing: in exchange for teaching her magic, the stepmother would have to bring a pot of flowers from the castle's garden.

Thinking the woman was out of her mind, the stepmother agreed, and her training began. Weeks passed by, and the stepmother began to excel. She learned transformation, first with simple things such as toads into teacups and guinea pigs into kettles. It went successfully, and each night, the stepmother flounced home, overjoyed with the news that the princess would soon be taught a lesson.

The night arrived when the old woman had taught her everything she needed to know for the spell. As the stepmother walked back to the palace, she couldn't wait to finally get her revenge. She approached the castle doors, where another young man yearning to meet the princess was turned away, and her distaste for the girl grew stronger. Nothing would be better than when the princess had been punished for everything she had done.

The stepmother tiptoed to the girl's room, pushing open the door.

The lights were out and the princess lay sleeping peacefully. She stood at the end of the bed, closed her eyes, and began to recite the spell that she had practiced for weeks. She waved her hands, said the final words, and opened her eyes. The princess was gone, and had been replaced with a sleek, white goose.

It had worked. The princess would no longer turn away the men lined up around the moat, for there would be no men in line! She turned away from the bed and walked out of the room, ecstatic. Her plan had worked- she had got her revenge.

The stepmother fetched a small pot and a garden spade, and walked outside to the front garden to dig up the flowers for the old woman. She passed the guards, who gave her no second glance. She passed the tall gates, and the gnarled old apple tree. But when she came to a stop at the flower beds, something was amiss. The flowers had all been snipped away from their stems, their petals lying in the dirt. And who sat among them but a smooth white goose.

The stepmother brought back the flower heads in the pot to the old woman in the forest, but was turned away at the door. After all, the woman had requested potted flowers, not clumps of muddy petals. When the stepmother got back to the castle, she ordered the gardener to replant all the flowers, but he shook his head and informed her that all of his seeds had been ripped open and strewn across the floor, dirty and destroyed.

She went back to the old woman, and begged for for something else in return for the knowledge she had provided. Money, titles- anything she could think of, it could be hers! But the two had made an agreement, and the stepmother broke it. With a flash of purple light, the stepmother transformed into a small fish, and would be locked in a jar for the woman to keep until the end of her days.

The princess lived out her life happy, causing mayhem around the palace and coming to the old woman's cottage every Thursday for afternoon tea- or the best tea that one could share with a goose.

The gardener would never understand what happened to his seeds whenever he bought new ones.

Folks talking about Game Devs dropping Unity or how it won't hurt small indie devs with under 200,000. Are missing the point.

Some of these Unity games can't change to another engine because they have years of code piled on top of each other at this point. aka POKEMON GO. They'd basically have to rebuild the game from scratch.

Not to mention Unity is mostly used by phone app games or Indie's that are lucky enough to get picked up by console. Indie games on Mobile easily pass 200,000 downloads. Temple Run 1 and 2 are in Unity, Crossy Road, Angry birds 1 and 2, and Hearthstone. All of these past 200,000 downloads years ago but aren't bringing in money now except hearthstone.

The Developers will do what happened to the first Angry birds app. They'll take it down, build it in a new engine for "HD", and add a shit ton of micro transactions. We are about to lose countless original versions of the OG pre lootbox mobile games.

We are also about to lose some of the biggest Indie games of the last decade. Among Us, Plague Inc., 7 Days to die, the original Slenderman game and it's sequel, I am Bread, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dream Daddy, Overcooked 1 & 2, Pathfinder online, Cup Head, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Oxygen Not Included, Bloons Tower Defense 6, Beat Saber, Subnautica, The Stanley Parable, Untitled Goose Game, Power Washing Simulator, Fall Guys, Inscryption, Phasmophobia

And the big one FUCKING HOLLOW KNIGHT. Silk song has already been pushed back out of this year specifically because it's being made by a team of like 3 people. It is so close to being finished and now they are being told they have to start over from scratch basically. Hollow Knight got over 200,000 downloads from being on playstation and was eventually put on Playstations subscription service. Every cent they made from hollow knight has gone back into making silk song. Which might now be delayed by multiple years and oh they are going to have to use some of that funds to pay unity now. Or find a way to get out of a contract with playstation. Because folks will keep downloading Hollow Knight for free and Unity will send the Hollow Knight team the bill.

oh and there's one more teeny tiny game made in Unity that you guys might not want to suddenly disappear. One with almost 3 years of monthly code updates, one with 139 million downloads to date, and 4.8 million monthly users.

Genshin. Guys Genshin Impact is made completely in Unity and that's not a game that can have it's code just copy and pasted to another engine.

I was unsure whether I'd share this online but I had made it specifically to get signed by Neil Newbon this last weekend!

I was so nervous since the last time I ever went to get an autograph at an expo was over 10 years ago and it was NOT a positive experience :'0 - Even though, before then, I had two good experiences with actors, it takes one burn to keep you away forever.

BUT as it turns out, the rumours are true, Neil is super sweet and kind (AND TALL OML (or i'm just rly short)) - I'm glad I did it! If you get the chance and want to meet him, do it, he's swell.

Also, I told him how when I went to pick up my prints, the girl working the desk had asked me "is this goosetarion?.." and his response was "That's FUCKED" HAh

OH and shoutout to the pair cosplaying as Astarion and Gale we met standing in line who noticed my print - They were so sweet!
