The Sarnova Legacy (Revised)

Revised - June 5, 2022

Deviah Sarnova was raised to be the Empire's champion. Instead, she will become the Galaxy's hero.

I wound up replacing half the Legacy... its still built around Deviah and Leida, while Redak and Brev still interest me enough to keep around.

Zed is moving over to the Nas Legacy, so Sasawa, my Zabrak, takes his place. I have very little about her, but she was too cute for me to ignore. I'm hoping she sticks around.

Dalken Piett - who briefly was in the Beltane Legacy - makes some sense here. He's romantically connected to Leida. (I love Andronikos, but I don't need to romance him with too many Inquisitors.)

Zerahte just wasn't quite fitting in with this group. But I was intrigued by the idea of an Ulannium Kaarz who never met Corellan Halcyon as a child. I'm thinking... this version might be a bit ruthless by Jedi Consular standards.

I still haven't totally dropped Rumatt (my bounty hunter), but he wasn't fitting in here. Chria got called up; this version of the character never met Teeanah Malvern, and instead quit the Imperial Army when Black Ops was disbanded. This iteration of the character follows the bounty hunter story fairly closely.

Redak's story still has a sad ending, but I don't know if I'll ever write it.

Will I re-do this lineup again? ... Probably. 🥺

Note

So we know about the Alliance in the Halcyon Legcay but what about the others; Sarnova, Beltane, Barith etc? Who leads and joins them?

So - Deviah leads the Alliance in the Sarnova Legacy. Nas'ash'dia leads the Alliance in the Nas Legacy (with help from her brother, Ozibuamnu). Quoraah leads the Alliance in the Beltane Legacy. Rhi'khi leads the Alliance in my Rhi'khi Legacy. And Kayeh leads the Alliance in the Green Legacy.

Moyraah Gargun is an Alliance Commander as well, but i'm still not sure I want to build a legacy around her.

The Barith and Adas Legacies do not (currently) go into KOTFE / KOTET, though i reserve the right to change that.

Details on membership....

I'm going to level with you. Some of my Legacies are in the process of being... "adjusted".

So.... I gotta check those lineups.

I don't know how deep my worldbuilding will get for those. For Halcyon, I do it automatically. For the others... meh. I'll do it if i need to.

I'm afraid LS Jaesa doesn't exist in the Halcyon Legacy. Kael Nosrol Krannus recruited, trained and eventually became engaged to Jaesa. Theirs was a relationship that was… not necessarily healthy for either of them.

More on the DS Jaesa of the Halcyon Legacy another time.

But… that's boring. So I'll tell you a little about LS Jaesa in the Sarnova Legacy!

Jaesa took Deviah Sarnova's "death" aboard Marr's capital ship hard. Her attempts to organize the "light-sided Sith" had come to nothing, and she lacked any place to go. (Her parents are alive, but if she'd gone to them, there would have been a target on them.)

Gnost-Dural - who came by her while organizing the expedition - took her in. He showed her nothing but kindness.

Sadly, many of the other Jedi - including Tau Idair - were suspicious. They were civil, but not welcoming.

Still, Jaesa came to terms with much of what happened. With the choices she'd made, right and wrong.

She also accepted her own feelings towards Deviah.

When she finally encountered her old Master years later, she was overcome. Not willing to wait, she told Deviah how she felt.

Regretfully, Deviah had to gently turn her down. (Jaesa is wonderful, but there's only ONE Lana Beniko.)

In the months that followed, after adapting to the Alliance, Jaesa would resume her friendship with Vette. Eventually, that friendship would blossom into something more.

Captain Sarnova - who is a cousin of Deviah Sarnova in my Sarnova Legacy (which she obviously lent the name to) certainly left an impression on me.

She ran into Gahraath Vaiken, the future Cipher Nine, at Grathan's estate. The agent was rather ruthless, unfortunately, and didn't think twice about using Duchess' former soldiers turned droids into cannon-fodder.

The Captain survived the attack on the Grathan estate, and was promoted to Major.

Sadly, some years later she was on duty when the Eternal Fleet bombarded Dromund Kaas after Vaylin's fall. Major Sarnova was killed evacuating civilians from the capital.

Wish it could have been brighter! 😢

My first Legacy overhaul of 2022! (There are more coming.)

Its still built around Nas'ash'dia and Ozibaumnu - siblings who made their place in a Sith Empire who regards non-humans with disdain. Fun, angsty stuff. Unfortunately, their supporting cast wasn't complementing them. So I'm trying something else. Mehio Nareves replaces Akhinom. I like her, but she's being heavily redisgned. Akhinom was ... just not coming together. Sonora Phit has vicious streak. She wasn't quite fitting in with the kids of the Beltane Legacy. She replaces Hochix, who I could never make work. Zerahte Nu... is a character who I keep trying to do something with. She wasn't working out in the Sarnova Legacy but she might develop in the Nas Legacy. She is the kind of Consular who might join an Alliance run by (nominal) ex-Imperials. Zed Mompi, to date my only true DS Republic character, is fun. I've just decided he fits better with the Nas Legacy. Mehio's brother, Toviq, takes over from Iruvih, who also slid over to the Sarnova Legacy. (I can’t split up siblings.) Woxia Dakhan will still be featured in other legacies, but not this one. I'm curious to see if a different version of Kael Nosrol Krannus will make healthier life choices. (Not a safe bet.) Regardless, he remains my "edge lord", the one who I can't write too much about since most of my ideas about him would require multiple content warnings.

Yes, I will probably revisit this again.

WIP ask meme Thanks for the ask, @the-raven-of-highever !

"Don't Leave Me" takes place in the Sarnova Legacy Chronicles and features the main protagonist, Deviah Sarnova, and her one-true pairing (and eventual wife) Lana Beniko. If I ever write it, I think you'll like it. Its shameless smut, with some fluff elements. It establishes that Lana is the "top" in the relationship when they go "kinky". The title refers to something Deviah says to Lana - she's lost so many people from her life at that point, she just looks up at her and tells her she can do anything she wants to her. Just… "Please don't leave me". Lana kisses her and reassures her "Never".

"No One Should" takes place in the Halcyon Legacy and deals with one of the more controversial plot elements concerning any companion. That being, Raina Temple's mission to kill her own father. The story is told from the perspective of the former "Cipher Three", and also adresses what Cipher Nine - in this case, Gahraath Vaiken - will do in reaction to this situation, given that he's falling in love with Raina.

I wasn’t feeling Vranthe at all. He was an abandoned OC from ago. Meanwhile, Tali is slowly infiltrating most of my Legacies. I’ve honestly abandoned most of these OCs, but I definitely want to work with Deviah, Leida and Tali again. Zed is fun, but his story kinda feels “meh” post-class story. Zerahte is in much the same situation.

silent fury

Deviah Sarnova marched with great determination through the airlock tube of the transponder station, eyes directed straight ahead at the sealed gate.

Beyond that door was her ship. And her crew – the ones whom she could trust anyway. Beyond that door was her upcoming mission to Corellia, where the Republic and Empire were engaged in a battle to decide the fate of the galaxy. Where the plans of Darth Baras threatened everything.

That was her focus. That had to be her focus. She would need everything she had to prevail. Anything else would be a distraction.

Anything else.

“My lord!”

The voice called out from behind her, shattering whatever calm resolve she had built up over the last several minutes.

To hear that voice call out to her had once meant everything to her.

She could feel her jaw clench as she came to a stop, turning on one heel without moving a step.

She looked back at him.

Captain Malavai Quinn of the Imperial Military stood there, having obviously been chasing after her.

Quinn came to a sudden stop, his eyes startled and mouth dropping agape. The unflappable Imperial officer had finally been shaken; his iconic poise abandoned.

Deviah realized he was looking at the expression on her face. She could only imagine what she looked like right now. She didn’t want to imagine what she looked like right now.

Quinn continued to stare. Whatever he’d intended to say to her in that moment had clearly been forgotten.

If he says one word to me, even a single word, I will slaughter him where he stands.

Quinn simply cast his eyes downward, perhaps realizing that no words he could ever say could ever begin to fix what he had done.

This. This was what Deviah Sarnova had spent her twenty-four years of life trying to avoid. To embrace her emotions – her passions – without becoming a slave to them, as so many other Sith had done. She could kill him right now. Not with her lightsaber, but a Force choke. She could watch the air escape from his lungs and watch as his eyes…

No.

If she did that, if she stepped down that path, she might never stop. She’d seen where that led.

No wonder the damned Jedi forbade relationships.

She said nothing as she turned around, back to the passage into her ship.

The footfalls behind her were the only indication that he had followed her. She didn’t bother to look at him.

“Inform me when we reach Corellia.” Was all she said, keeping her voice level.

As she walked to her quarters, a new understanding dawned on her.

No wonder Sith gave into their fury.

It was so much easier than pain.

Forgive me if I’ve asked before, but is Deviah related to Captain Sarnova on Dromund Kaas? (Quest-giver outside of Grathan’s estate) Or is the name just coincidence?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Someone finally caught it!

Yes, when I was going through last names to give my OCs, I remembered this poor Imperial Captain, nicknamed “Duchess”, who is just trying to get her “kids” back. So “Sarnova” was established as an Imperial family name, so i went with that. Captain Sarnova is, in fact, Deviah’s cousin. The Sarnovas are the closest thing the Empire has to an “upper middle-class” family. Deviah’s father, Ivatho - a talented bureaucrat with the diplomatic service - married the daughter of a major Sith Lord. It was an arranged marriage, but after Deviah was born, it grew into love, as both were committed to their daughter. The family did very well for themselves, and Deviah was raised in a life of privilege, occasionally visiting her relatives. So it was that Deviah was pleasantly surprised to run into her cousin at the wall of Gratham’s estate. She eagerly took up the mission to rescue the abducted soldiers. She really wished it had turned out better for her. Devi actually hugged her cousin when she told her. (She’s kinda touchy-feely.) I’ve actually planned some more stuff involving Deviah’s parents. Hope to write it someday. Thanks for asking me this! I smile every time i play this mission!

Deviah Sarnova’s Childhood Friend

This is Deviah Sarnova, who is probably my second most-prominent OC, and who I'm world-building around.

I've been slowly fleshing out my "Sarnova Legacy". I don't know how many characters will actually be developed in the gameplay, but i always feel a greater sense of connection to them when i stick them through the character generator.

To that end...

Deviah's childhood was rather sheltered. Her parents were wealthy - her father was a high-ranking bureaucrat while her mother was the daughter of a prominent Sith Lord. She was basically home-schooled; her parents bringing in exceptional tutors to make sure she had every possible advantage. As such, she was very well-prepared for the trials of Korriban and beyond.

The price of this, of course, was that her social interactions with peers in her age group were minimal. Honestly, she'd practically adopted Vette as a surrogate sister about five minutes after meeting her.

The Sarnovas were close friends with another aristocratic Imperial couple - the Orpharyas. Cor Orpharya was a Colonel in the Imperial military while Judell was a schoolmate of Deviah's mother. The Orpharya had a daughter about Deviah's age, Leida, so the families spending time together made sense. They didn't even live on the same planet - the Sarnaovas spent most of their time on Ziost while the Orpharyas live on Dromund Kaas. But two or three times a year, they would vacation together, and Deviah would have a friend to play with.

Leida was a fearless and passionate girl who meshed well with Deviah's playful nature. The two knew each other as well as anyone.

When the girls were thirteen, the Orpharyas were staying at the Sarnova's home on Ziost. Deviah and Leida were playing down by the stream; it was a fairly large estate and well worth exploring. Even for Deviah, who'd grown up there.

While down by the stream, Leida - always the bolder of the two - kissed Deviah.

(This was the moment Devi realized that she was bi.)

It didn't go very far and they didn't really talk about it. Instead, they promised eachother they'd talk more the next time their families got together.

That didn't happen.

Colonel Cor Orpharya was a dedicated and competent Imperial officer in a military where loyalty to the Sith was valued above all else. One day he was ordered by a Sith Lord - Darth Algea - to send his troops on a suicide mission to chase down a rumor of a hidden Force artifact. The Colonel refused, saving the lives of his troops but being branded a traitor in the process. When the Sith Lord arrived, he executed Cor on the spot.

The families of traitors in the Sith Empire face only one fate : A life of slavery.

Hearing what had happened, Judell panicked. She called Leida to her side, she prepared glasses of wine for both of them, with both of them laced with poison.

Leida could never articulate what stopped her from drinking from her own glass. She was still crying over her mother's corpse when the soldiers came for them.

The Sarnovas were terrified to hear what had happened. In honor of their old friends, the desperately tried to buy Leida before something horrifying could happen to her. They wouldn't have been able to legally free her, but at least they could have protected her and provided a real home for her.

Darth Algea, the Sith Lord who had executed Leida's father. wouldn't hear of it. He turned down ten times what Leida would have commanded on the auction block because he wanted the pleasure of tormenting the daughter of the man who had dared stand up to him. Deviah wept at the loss of her friend.

Three years later, the Sarnovas were attending a party on Dromund Kaas, attended by dozens of the Empire's movers and shakers.

Darth Algea was there. Attended by his slave, Leida.

Deviah was shocked and devastated when she saw her old friend, dressed as a slave and wearing a shock collar. It was clear that Leida had been cruelly abused, and she wouldn't even look at Devi when she called out to her.

Deviah nearly started a scene, and if not for her parents dragging her away, they may have all been killed.

Sometime later, Algea was transferred to one of the Empire's recent conquests, taking his entourage along with him. The Sarnovas assumed that Leida was likely killed at some point. Deviah wept again, thinking that she'd never see her again. However, given her upbringing, she believed monsters like Algea were the exception and not the norm. She vowed that when she rose to a position of power, she'd prevent such abuses of power.

Meanwhile, the Empire's mandatory midi-chlorian tests are 99 percent effective at identifying Force sensitives.

Leida Orpharya fell through the cracks of this testing. Right up until the day she slew Algea and was sent to Korriban.

She comes to the Sith homeworld a former slave. But give her time. She might surprise you.

(She certainly surprised Deviah years later when they met each other again in the Dark Council chambers on Korriban.)

OC You Ship Them With: He could potentially hit on any of the women in my Sarnova Legacy, and probably a couple of the men. But i don't ship him with any of them. OC Most Likely To Murder Them: If he actually hit on Leida (aka Darth Nox), then fried calamari would be on the menu. Deviah would just let him off with a withering look. Favorite Movie/Book Genre: He likes action flicks. Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Anything involving his actual line of work. Studio executives never get it right. Talents and/or Powers: Otherworldly ability to infiltrate a place, shiv who he needs to shiv, and to then sneak out Why Someone Might Love Them: Well... he does have mad skills in the bedchamber. It was enough to keep Risha around. Why Someone Might Hate Them: See, you ask these questions, and you can tell you don't know, because it could be anything from "He stole the paybox!" to "He seduced my son / daughter!" How They Change: He'll never admit it, but he has settled down a bit with Risha and the others. He even let the Republic off light after Corellia.Why You Love Them: He plain doesn't give a f*ck. He's in it for the money.

SWTORpadawan Writes - 2021: A Year In Review

2021 - for all its ups and downs for me - was a good year for my creative output. If I'm trusting my statistics, I turned out more posted works than any previous year.

Now part of this was no doubt due to the fact that I was *ahem* under-employed for much of the year. But regardless, I do feel a sense of accomplishment.

Here's a list:

Fun (Chapter Two of Monsters and Masks, featuring Ozibaumnu from the Nas Legacy. This was difficult to write, but I was pleased with the result with the perspective of Ashara Zavros.)

Silent Fury (A stand-alone fic featuring Deviah Sarnova from the Sarnova Legacy)

Beautiful (A stand-alone fic featuring Kayeh Antilles from the Green Legacy)

Alone Finally (Chapter Nine of Awakenings, featuring Kira Carsen's reunion with Corellan Halcyon of my Halcyon Legacy. A flash-forward fic featuring Kira and Corellan enjoying some 'alone' time.)

An Intriguing Assessment (Chapter Seven of The Heroes of Tython, featuring a letter from Satele Shan to Corellan and his crew)

Backup (Chapter Ten of Kira Carsen and the Hero of Tython, a completely out-of-order covering Corellan's relationship with Kira prior to the the Five Year Gap. This chapter stars Jonas Balkar and Theron Shan.)

Acclimation (Chapter Ten of Awakenings. Kira works hard to earn a place for herself in the Alliance.)

No Little Girl (A stand-alone fic featuring Rhi'khi from the Legacy of the same name as she confronts Vaylin on Nathema)

Secret Messages

(Chapter Five of Tales of the Eternal Alliance, featuring Vette learning their might be more to the Alliance Commander than he lets on.)

Limits (Chapter Twelve of Kira Carsen and the Hero of Tython. This chapter shows how Kira and Corellan they deal with conflict.)

Ashes (Chapter Six of Tales of the Eternal Alliance, featuring Bas'riish from the Halcyon Legacy as she reunites with Risha Drayen) We Have Time (Chapter Thirteen of Kira Carsen and the Hero of Tython. Our duo makes their own 'private time'.)

The Only Ones Who Can (Chapter Eight of The Heroes of Tython, where Corellan meets with @chaosandwonder 's lovely Hiraya Manawari!)

Apologies (Chapter Eleven of Awakenings, where Lana Beniko talks to Corellan after Kira joins the Alliance. I was proud of this one because of how long it was in my WIP Journal.)

I Know You're Alive (Chapter Twelve of Awakenings. AU where Kira is the Outlander and Corellan is trying to find her.)

Ten More Minutes (Chapter Thirteen of Awakenings. Kira keeps Corellan from getting to work one morning.)

Pieces (A stand-alone fic featuring Nas'ash'dia from the Nas Legacy as she looks back on her life thus far)

Opportunity (Chapter One of Legends of the Force, featuring OCs in my Halcyon Legacy. This story covers a little talk between Kael Nosrol Krannus and his apprentice, Jaesa Willsaam) Training Day (Chapter One of In the Shadow of the Hero, featuring Padawan Tyzen Pyne from my Halcyon Legacy)

The Fall (Chapter One of Shadow Games, a story in the Halcyon Legacy featuring an unnamed OC. This chapter was fun as the POV was Malgus) Mysterious Ways (Chapter Seven of Tales of the Eternal Alliance, featuring Bas'riish from the Halcyon Legacy as she and Guss fight on Odessen)

Touched (Chapter Three of Monsters and Masks, featuring Ozibaumnu from the Nas Legacy)

A Hero's Reward (An AU Fic where Bas'riish of the Halcyon Legacy invades @taraum 's world... and targets Daesha for her wiles)

You Don’t Want To Know (Chapter Two of Legends of the Force. This story covers Ashara Zavros as she learns some new things about her mentor, Zu'fanda Pampya)

Old Partners drops on Monday. It will be Chapter Eight of Tales of the Eternal Alliance, and will star an NPC who barely appears in the game, but who struck my fancy. I hope you all give it a look!

I also wrote two more pieces --- It's Good To Be The Empress and Immersion --- that I showed only a handful of people. I won't ever post them to Tumblr. But if I ever do a Patreon....

Still - overall, a solid year.
