Once again Rhett’s mind is somewhere it didn’t need to be

GMM is possibly the best show in the category of talk shows, when it comes to making the guests feel at home. This has obviously a lot to do with Rhett and Link and their personalities, and with the good prep work by the Mythical crew - I feel that the Mythical environment just has the ability to go under the polished celebrity shell and find the human beneath. But sometimes, there are guests that just fit right in, and these are the best kind of guest episodes. Like the one today.

I remember loving the previous GMM episode with Ben Schwartz. Today was even better. I think I need to add another funny man on my list of people I love. He’ll probably never get to the top tier with Rhett and Link, but I think I love Ben Schwartz. And I think he genuinely enjoyed coming back to GMM.

Ben is promoting his latest movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, and in the spirit of being super fast, today, the guys are playing a game of Who is the fastest in doing things. In each round, the two slowest guys have to perform a slow punishment. Let’s get playing!

In the first round, the guys must empty boxes of tissues using only their mouths. I tried to think why the motion of pulling tissues from a box looked so familiar to me, and then I realized I’ve seen my parents’ dog do this very thing. I think she would have won this game, because not only does she like to empty boxes, in the time it took the guys to finish this task, she’d probably have also eaten the tissues.

Turns out, Link is the least in contact with his animal instincts, because he fails miserably at this game - while Rhett seems to struggle mostly because of his hair getting in the way. Ben has no difficulties winning this round, and as a punishment, Rhett and Link have to slowly sing Twinkle, twinkle little start while shaking a shake-weight. Since I kind of know at this point that GMM never misses an opportunity to do things with a double meaning, I feel there is a hidden joke in all of this, but the one I can think of is probably best left unwritten.

After the first round, I have this constant feeling of missing something, but surely sorting M&Ms by colour while wearing an eyepatch is just that. Right? I don’t really know how an eyepatch would make this task any more difficult, but I don’t have depth perception in the first place, so how would I know.

Rhett manages to look like a bear (while wearing a bear sweater) and a pirate at the same time, and I must agree with Ben, the eyepatch looks good on him - but I’m rooting for Link in this round, because he loves sorting things (I do too, it’s so relaxing), and this should be his forte.

Despite Rhett trying to claim he was done before dropping one candy, Link is the winner of this round - and Rhett still had one brown M&M in the wrong pile, so Link won fair and square. The punishment suggested by Ben of kissing slowly for three minutes would probably have been more interesting to watch, but I absolutely love the not-so-slow but long compliment Ben gave Link while being sporked. But why can’t Rhett say something genuinely nice to Link? He just doesn’t know how to lose.

This is how you say a compliment:

Ben: “Link, I think that you’re not only a talented and funny person... Link, you know when I see you, sometimes I feel myself be so inspired I can’t hold it down. Have you ever watched a rainbow explode into a million stars? That’s the feeling I get when I see you, because you bring so much grace, so much humour, so much civility towards everything that’s happening in the world, and it’s not just that this spork is touching me, you’ve changed the life of everybody.”

The third round tests which of the guys is not only fastest but the most talented speed artist. I know none of the guys are famous for their drawing skills, but a chicken licking an ice-cream is not that hard to draw, right? I think Link’s drawing was actually the best one, but sadly, he was one chicken lick behind Rhett, and although Rhett’s chicken didn’t even have a tongue, he won this round.

I don’t exactly know who is getting punished for this round, the viewers or Ben and Link, but watching them plug a nose hair gives me the chills, even without them saying they’re bad boys.

The final round is a game of who can remove the toothpicks off of a grapefruit the fastest. I love it when Link uses a word no-one knows, but he was absolutely right calling the spikey fruit an echidna.

Since the guys all have one point at this time, Rhett really goes into a competitive mode for this last round, and successfully removes all the spikes first. Ben and Link are just casually chatting, while Rhett is fully focused on the task - you can almost see the fume coming from his brain. Rhett wins the game, and gets a super fast congratulation speech from Ben. When you won, you won. There you go!

In GMMore, we move on from fast men to fast animals - because, Sonic. I think I’ve learnt the same 80s facts as Rhett and Link, because I recall seeing a chart about fastest animals, and the cheetah was the fastest land animal in it. There was also a falcon which was way faster...

My favourite thing about this More has to be the unlimited abundence of not-quite-there facts about the animal kingdom. I’d watch these three talk about the wonders of nature for hours and probably still be entertained. The further this episode went, the more Rhett and Link started to compete in impressing Ben with their knowledge. They were pretty much acting like two kids who have a crush on the same person, and I think it was both adorable and hilarious.

Ben clearly had as much fun as we did today, almost as if he didn’t want the More to end. The guys didn’t quite have the telepathic connection Ben was hoping for, but I hope they at least went out to have a pint together after shooting this.

Seriously though, Rhett tried to cheat when guessing the number, but he first read the number wrong in their screen, and later apparently forgot the middle number. I wonder if he’d gotten the number correct, would he have revealed how he got there, or called himself a telepathic genius?

What's your favourite sport? Do you prefer to watch it or play it?: I love pro wrestling, if you count that as a sport. I definitely prefer to just stay in front of a TV – I have never been in a ring, nor am I physically fit to even give it a shot without getting harshly injured. Conversely, I love table tennis but I’d rather play it than watch a game.

Are you upset, for any reason at all?: Yeah. I’ve been feeling very upset and under stress lately...to give you an idea, I find it a personal achievement to have gotten up and taken this survey. I’m at least self-aware that this is a temporary slump, but while it’s here hanging around, it really sucks to be in it.

How did you feel when you woke up today?: Shitty. The only reason I got up at all was to feed my dogs but otherwise I’ve been glued to either the couch or my bed.

When you're stressed, what helps you to relax or calm down?: Lately, it’s episodes of Good Mythical Morning. Rhett, Link, and their crew will never have any idea just how much they’ve helped this 22 year old, now-wondering-what-her-purpose-is-in-life fresh college graduate keep sane, but I’m glad they have hours upon hours of content and podcasts lying around to keep me company while no one else can.

What were you doing before you started this survey?: I finished another survey that I abandoned yesterday, and was watching GMM to fill up the silence in my room.

Is there something else you should be doing, that's more important?: I’ve been job-hunting 24/7 but lately I’ve been giving myself a break on weekends since no one will be processing applications or booking interviews on a Saturday anyway.

When was the last time you neglected to do something that you'd planned?: Around noon today.

Is there someone that can always make you smile no matter how bad you feel?: Apparently not. I’ve been a wreck all month so far and nothing has worked. Before September, I certainly thought animals or certain humans worked as cures for me.

Do you have any friends that you feel don't fully appreciate you?: I don’t feel that way about them. I think my friends care for me a whole lot, which I appreciate. I’ve had friends come to my DMs quite a few times in the last few days with messages of support since I’ve been a little vocal about how sad I’ve been feeling these days, so I for sure don’t feel invisible. Making me feel present is the best gift anyone could give me.

We still have the chocolate cake from Nina’s birthday and we recently received an entire pack of various fun-size chocolate bars like Twix, Three Musketeers, etc. from my aunt. We also have chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream that I normally would finish up in a day, but I’ve been saving it for every future job rejection I receive.

Do you have younger siblings? If you do, are you protective of them?: Yes. I’m protective of my sister but I don’t show it lol. We are not showy in this family.

What are the other members of your household doing at this moment?: I have not gone out of my room all day...I did not miss this sensation. It’s been a while since I’ve locked myself up for this long.

Do you have any neighbours that you don't get along with?: There’s a house behind ours that loudly plays 80s and 90s power ballads and love songs and it gets insanely irritating and makes the neighborhood feel cheap, but I keep my feelings to myself and I’ve never actually confronted them about it and asked them to stop or decrease their speaker’s volume.

How recently did you speak to the last person you kissed?: Like 30 minutes ago. I’m not very talkative these days and it was actually just the second time today that I initiated a bried conversation. I feel bad for her, and I can’t wait to get better so I can start treating her right again.

In the past week, have you slept past midday?: Kind of. Like I mentioned, Gabie’s on the night shift so I’ve been keeping her company, which means I occasionally take naps in the afternoon.

Is there anyone you used to be friends with, that you now dislike?: I dislike Athenna only because of her attitude and the way she treated Angela during the last few days of their friendship. I don’t have any personal beef with her, at least I don’t think I have. She likes stirring up shit though and I won’t be surprised if she was able to make up a story about me to get our other friends to dislike me.

What is your least favourite chocolate bar?: Eh, I’m pretty picky about chocolate bars so I have more brands that I dislike than the ones I do enjoy. I only like Reese’s, Butterfinger, Twix, and Whittaker’s.

TOP 5 BL DRAMAS

1. Gay Ok Bangkok

I love this show so much I could honestly go on about it forever but I’ll keep it simple and short. I don’t even think this is technically considered a BL but this is one of my favorite dramas and in my opinion very underrated so I’m going to include it. Jojo who directed 3 Will Be Free and Friend Zone directed it and I’m pretty sure Aof aka everyone’s favorite director also worked on it so you know it’s good quality. It’s about the daily lives of a diverse group of gay men living in Bangkok and is probably one of the most realistic shows I’ve ever watched. Not to mention that a good portion of the cast themselves are also not straight and they deserve to be supported. It’ll probably never happen but I’m still hoping for a 3rd season. I need Nat and Arm to be end game so bad.

2. Until We Meet Again

Where do I start with UWMA? I still haven’t accept the fact that it’s over. It was such a soft and sweet show with an amazing cast and crew. OhmFluke have so much chemistry and are so cute with each other. I know a lot of people complained about it being boring and slow but I could have literally watched an hour each week of DeanPharm eating and cuddling with each other and been completely satisfied with it. The final episode made me cry and Fluke deserves all the awards for his performance.

3. History 3: MODC

This show got off to a rough start but quickly became one of my favorite shows ever. It’s also one of those shows I could go on and on about. It was so sweet and made me laugh so much. I love good friendship dynamics in my media and MODC had a great example of it. The friend group were the cutest, silliest, most supportive group of people. Hao Ting and Xi Gu had such an amazing relationship by the end and the characters had some of the best character growth I’ve seen in a while. It’s just a shame that it didn’t have a full 10 episodes like Trapped though.

4. He’s Coming to Me

HCTM was one of my most anticipated shows of 2019 and it didn’t let me down. It’s such a shame that GMM didn’t promote it properly because it deserves to be way more popular than it is.  I appreciate the fact that the main plot of the show wasn’t just about romance. I love a good mystery and HCTM delivered on that end. Singto and Ohm are some of the best actors in the industry in my opinion and if you don’t think so before watching HCTM then you definitely will after.

5. Theory of Love

TOL was such a fun show.  I loved all the romance movie references they made in it. We all know Gun is a great actor but Off really stepped up his game here. He did a wonderful job playing Khai. I only skimmed through Honey Puppy and didn’t really care for it so it was great seeing the two of them in a show together again. Theory of Love is also one of the only dramas I’ve ever succeeded in getting my sister to watch so you know that means it’s good.

6. Sotus

I almost never talk about Sotus but this show has a special place in my heart. It was the first Thai show I watched not including the random clips of Hormones I used to find on youtube. I can’t believe it’s already been four years since it’s aired. For being one of the early BLs it’s definitely one of the better ones. It has such a nice, sweet plot and doesn’t include a lot of the questionable elements a lot of BLs have. Not to mention it introduced me to the one and only Singto Prachaya.

7. Great Men Academy

Not going to lie, I put off watching this when it was airing because I was not into the plot at all. But after hearing all the praise it got I decided to check it out and I don’t regret a single thing. It’s such a good show! The plot may sound wacky but they manage to make it work. The cast is a major plus as well. James is one of my favorite actors and it was the first show I got to see JJ act in.

8. History 2: Crossing the Line

I don’t often do complete rewatches shows but I did with this one so you know that means it’s good. I also am not one to watch a lot of sports themed shows so the fact that I watched it not once but twice is another sign of how good it is. Fandy and Zach do such a good job and have so much chemistry with each other. It’s a very sweet and simple show. I hope we hear news of the movie soon.

9. History 3: Trapped

I’m a sucker for anything gangster themed so I knew I would be into it. Despite some plot holes due to choppy editing and a slightly unsatisfactory ending, it’s still a very good show. It’s a fun, action packed good time. It’s also very well acted. I was so upset when it ended I sobbed almost the entire last episode.

10. The Untamed

Although this is one of my favorite dramas I’m also not technically sure if this is considered a BL which is why I have it in honorable mentions. I got into MDZS right when season 1 of the donghua had finished airing so I couldn’t wait for this to air. I waited a until a few weeks into airing to really start watching so that I could binge it and managed to catch up for the last couple episodes. I honestly don’t have words to express how much I loved this show. Is it perfect? No but it’s still very well done and you can tell a lot of love and effort went into it. The acting? Excellent. OST? Superb. Chemistry? Off the charts. Also another show that made me sob. I think I cried through at least 2/3 of the episodes.

On today’s good mythical morning...

I’m far to lazy to log into my other account so I’m just posting this on here.

Since the day the announced the change I was concerned. They are doing better than they ever have. Why change that?

I started watching them in 8th grade. I’m a senior now and I have not missed an episode. And I have seen nearly all of their videos. I feel in love with Rhett and Link. Not what crazy thing they eat or the insane games they play. I love their forever youthful personalities. How hard they have worked to still be successful for over 10 years. Their crazy childhood stories. The awkward moments and the fights all friends have. I could care less if they are eating pig anus or not, I would just be glad to see them together and having fun.

So I obviously have some things to say. Firstly the color. What everyone can agree on. It’s really bad. From season to season there is a color change. It’s sometimes dramatic and sometimes not as bad. This is bad. Same with the audio. That’s a simple fix though.

It’s just so scripted and not enjoyable to watch. They had no personality in today’s videos. I love the dumb things they accidentally say and the awkwardness that goes along with it.

It’s so hard to watch with so many videos. It’s annoying to click through. Also the videos are so rushed and cut weird. I remember the days of one video, one camera, no cuts. The good old days.

Oh the set change and desk change made me so uncomfortable. The set has only changed a bit while I’ve been watching and this is just weird. I can get use to it though. It’s missing all of its personality it has gotten over the years.

Lastly quality over quantity. The people who support they change are excited because of so much more content. I’m not. They are going to be making 25 videos a week. And they all seem to be crazy ones. I hate seeing them over work themselves. I would rather see them most 1 really really great video a week than 25 bad ones. The mythical show are still some of the best videos they have made in my opinion. They flowed and were entertaining and had a system.

This was the first time in my life I considered stopping watching gmm. I know this is probably how it will go on and I’m sad to see it like this. There’s nothing I can do except voice what I dislike.

"There's A Wiener on the Left!"

In Finland, when I hear someone talk about Easter (in Finnish, Pääsiäinen), the first thing that comes to mind, for me at least, are witches. It's a tradition here for kids to go around town dressed up as witches on Palm Sunday, and trade decorated branches of willow for candy. It's quite similar to trick or treating on Halloween, something not as big a deal around here. But because witches equal Easter in my mind, I find it very fitting that in today's GMM, Rhett and Link were joined by Gavin Leatherwood from the Chilling adventures of Sabrina.

I've watched the first season of Sabrina, but something else has always come up, and I haven't watched the rest yet. Of course, I have watched the og Sabrina the Teenage witch, but let's not bring that up. No, actually, let's: I'm not ashamed to admit that I quite enjoyed the show, even the stiff robotic cat. But even though some quite unusual animals and other oddities are kinda the theme of today's game, they actually have very little to do with witchcraft, and more with the magic of photoshop. It's time to spot the differences in some pretty wicked pictures!

Rhett starts the episode by instantly asking Gavin if he prefers leather or wood, (Rhett likes both) just because, Leatherwood. Imagine being a guest on the show, meeting these two dorks for the first time, and this being the first thing they ask you? And then, you end up playing a game where each round ends with someone putting a curse on themself? 😂

Okay, Disney should consider making a Mickey Mouse movie where all the characters' faces would be replaced with dog faces. That Mickey Dog looks amazing!

Buzzer wood would make a fun name for a Toy story fan fic, and I know my mind is pretty deep in the gutter to say that. It doesn't help when Rhett says things like "I like buzzer wood, it's soft."

After Rhett and Gavin find the differences in the koala mask pics, Link has to walk under a ladder and flip a fish to bring bad luck on himself. I had to find out more about the fish thing, and apparently it is a thing, only not while cooking the fish but when serving it.

I'm not very good at this game. I only thought about how my mom has the same green Ikea dish brush that is in the second picture, and then I started to think I should load my dishwasher. If I was playing along, I'd end up doing all the cursed punishments.

Opening an umbrella indoors is considered to bring bad luck in Finland, too, but this is the first time I've heard about Leonardo DaVinci inventing masturbation. Way to go, Rhett!

I spotted the nose in the stairs photo immediately, yay! Honestly, giving Link scissors and a hammer to smash a mirror with was possibly the worst idea ever. He didn't even know which hand to use with which tool! The horror on Rhett's face is very real, but somehow, the chaotic energy in this shot is also very much what GMM is all about.

I don't think the picture of the chickens taking a bath is that weird, but just pretty funny, but now I really need to see that freckle. I'm glad Link lost this round, so we get to see his yo-yo skills. This round was bad luck to whoever has to swipe the salt off the floor.

I made an eight-legged cat from clay last week, but the dog is way cooler. I don't know why, but I think Gavin just put a curse on that pretty little rainbow with his wicked eye. But, I have to ask with Gavin, why would Link imagine a little girl in a gown pointing at the rainbow instead of Gavin? Oh, because he's Link. Obviously.

In the last photos, I spotted the creeper, but not the other mistakes. I love how Rhett's first guess, after Stevie said women are more prone to spot the last mistake, was boobies - I don't believe that would apply to all women. When Link guessed there's a wiener on the left, I tried to take a better look at the creeper to see if it was a wiener and not a person. I mean, it's possible, I guess. The Try guys just posted a video with Zack's wiener, so it's not unheard of. But, gosh, Rhett really can't whistle. That was equally painful and hilarious to watch.

Rhett also loses the final round, and somehow, his punishment is to get serenaded by two guys while getting a foot massage? I love how Link harmonizes the Happy Birthday song, he's really good at that!

In More, the guys play Light as a feather, stiff as a board with different objects. I've never tried this, but I did once play with a Ouija board with my friends, and I may have tricked them to think we talked to the spirit of someone who used to live where my family home is. I feel a bit guilty for doing that, but at the time it seemed like a good idea. I just didn't think they'd buy it.

Link admitting to Gavin that he and Rhett are the most sheltered middle-aged men he'll ever meet is somehow quite adorable, and I think the part where Link is doing awesome yo-yo tricks while whistling Deck the Halls in the background as Rhett struggles with the cardhouse while Gavin observes the situation, is one of those moments where you could send someone who isn't familiar with GMM, without context, and see how they react. But Link with that yo-yo...😯😍

Link may have shaky hands, but his reaction speed is phenomenal! I'm glad Gavin took his leather jacket off, it would have sucked if they spilled that orange juice on it.

Okay, I'm gonna stop now. They definately saved the best part of today's show to the end, because seeing Wushu sit on a pizza box up against the sky while the guys sing that song from Lion King is possibly the best thing I've seen in a while. And it's the perfect scene to end this post:

1. If you could be any animal for a day, what animal would you be? Why?

I think I’d like to be a dolphin, because most of the time they seem like they are having so much fun swimming and jumping in the ocean. 

2. How did you discover GMM and Rhett and Link?

I’d seen their “Will it deep fry?” episode earlier, but I didn’t find it that interesting at the time, but last summer I was being very depressed and anxious and I was googling some mental health stuff and somehow ended up in Youtube watching their “Psychopath smell test” episode. I honestly don’t know what happened, but after that I watched another video and another and...the rest is history :D

3. Do you have pets? What are their names?

Technically it’s my parent’s pet, but I have the cutest little french bulldog called Mimi, who is currently the love of my life and fills my heart with joy on a regular basis.

4. What is your favorite food?

I’m a bit of a foodie, so this is a tough question. I love spicy Indian and Middle-Eastern stuff, but if I have to choose just one thing, it would have to be this amazing tofu in garlic sauce that I get from our local Chinese restaurant.

5. Where is your dream vacation destination?

The world, lol.  I’ve been to London many times, and I dream of going there many more times, but that’s too easy to be a dream destination. Seriously, I love travelling, and any destination is a dream come true, but I’d like to climb to the top of Kilimandjaro one day.

6. What is your favorite season of GMM?

I’m really loving the current season (11), because the guys are so relaxed and comfortable around each other, and being silly and adorable. I love all the seasons so far, but I think they are in a really good place right now.

7. What other YouTubers do you enjoy watching?

Oh gosh, there are so many...ThreadBanger, ANDREW HUANG, vintageortacky, The Key of Awesome, How To Cook That, and an occational grav3yardgirl, just to name a few. I’m also a subscriber for some body positivity channels, many craft channels and all the cool jewelry making channels :D.

8. Do you have any TV or Movie recommendations?

I’m an endless list of movie recommendations, but some of the best are Being John Malcovich, Piano, anything from the Coen brothers, Perks of being a wallflower, the Lobster, most Tarantino films, the first Matrix...I watched the Green Inferno recently, and although it was like the most gory and brutal thing I’ve ever seen, I loved it too

Other than movies, recently I’ve watched the Santa Clarita Diet (awesome!), Jane the Virgin (so funny) and a very interesting series called You Me Her, which is about a polyamorous relationship. I also love rewatching True Blood, and I may need to watch Buffy too, since it’s been showing up in my recommendations on Netflix recently.

9. What was your favorite subject in school?

I kind of loved all of them apart from excercise, but history, biology and philosophy were probably the ones that I enjoyed the most. And art of course, oh and literature and English (as a foreign language).

10. Do you play video games? What kind?

I’ve played more in the past, but recently, I’ve only played stuff like Tetris and Super Mario on my ancient Game-Boy. I’m on a waiting list for the retro Nintendo, I really liked the old games with simple graphics. I tried playing the first Halo a while back, but it got too scary and I had to stop, lol. Anything music related is fun, but sadly, I don’t have any of those games right now.

11. If you could follow your passions in your work, what kind of work would you do?

I would like to be a writer and and an artist. I used to think a career in science was my passion, but I soon realized that it’s art and anything creative. I’d also like to work in a field where I could deal with human emotions, not psychology necessarily, but something like a mindfulness instructor or something...I kind of like doing everything :D.
