Hi Steph!! I was wondering if you knew of any really long fics (like 25k or more) that are only one chapter, I travel a lot sometimes and some places don't really have good enough internet for multi chapter fics. So yeah, any really long one chapter fics about John and Sherlock would be appreciated. Thank you!

Anyway, so yes, I can definitely rec you some fics! BUT I should also offer you two suggestions you can totally do to read ANY fic!

On Ao3, you can click on the “Entire Work” button to load ALL chapters of a fic (it’s the very first button along the top) and in turn you can then just read it all there!

And the very last button along the top, you can Download copies of the fic to your phone or computer with eBook file types (AZw3 for Kindle, ePub for iPhone’s Books app, and MOBI is for other mobile devices and e-readers), the HTML if you want to read it as-is in a web-browser, or the PDF format which is a universal file format that is supported by everything, even web browsers, so it’s a good one to download if you don’t know what format you need :) If you read on an eReader, though, I can’t recommend enough just downloading the format for your device. You get to keep a copy of the fic AND the eReader keeps it nicely formatted. It’s a BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL feature that Ao3 gave us, because I like downloading all my fics and read them later in iBooks. Once you start that, Nonny, you can’t do it any other way. AND at the VERY END of the fics, it links BACK to the original post so you can bookmark, kudos, and comment on it!! <3

So yeah, two options you can do to solve your poopy internet and still read long fics hee hee! <3

After the winter chill comes the bearing of spring. Then comes the summer of cicadas, and finally the fields of neverending gold.

In the Kita household, the large shoji doors leading to the garden have been kept open frequently during the past weeks. You found it quite enjoyable to laze around the engawa, admiring the birds flying about and the deep blue of morning glories. More often than not, you’d fall asleep in the midst of fanning yourself and wake up with a neckache.

The summer heat, oh please put the emphasis on the heat. The sun that was a gentle sunshine has now turned into harsh rays. Windows were almost kept open all day to circulate air. In rooms without air conditioning, fans were pointed outside because it was just simpler and better to suck the hot air from indoors and blow it out.

While baby hawks learned how to fly and made their preliminary circles in the sky, lotus flowers bloomed in some of the garden ponds. The blooms occurred overnight while the temperature was a bit cooler. The next day when the sun woke the land, the pink petals were fully ready to embrace the light.

Today you were lazing on the tatami mat indoors instead. The natural woven grass was fragrant and cooling. In two days, it was going to be Greater Heat, but it was hard to imagine just how much “greater” the heat could possibly get if this season was already on the cusp of being unbearable.

Cold-brew tea and watermelon became a constant source for quenching thirst. You laid comfortably on your stomach, skewering cubes of sweet fruit and observed Kita play a game of go with his grandmother. As the game went on, the click and clack of the stones on the board were pleasant to the ears.

“The first semester ended yesterday,” you said into the air. You now laid out like a starfish while staring at the wooden beams of the ceiling. It sounded as if you were still trying to come to terms and understand what that meant.

Kita glanced at you from the corner of his eye before refocusing on the match with Granny. He picked up a white stone between his middle and index finger, and laid the piece down on the grid line in a firm clack.

“I concede. I really am getting too old,” Granny mused. “I’ll have to challenge someone at the senior center tomorrow to boost my ego!”

Kita laughed and began to clear the board. “Go easy on them Granny!” He turned towards your form, still as a starfish, on the tatami. “Do you want to play a round?”

“Sure, I’m bored.” You sat up and took a kneeling position where Kita’s grandmother was sitting earlier. The go game board was a giant hunk of a wooden cube with a black grid of 19x19 on the surface. “I don’t really know the rules.”

“It’s simple,” Kita said, placing a black stone down on an intersection. He then placed four white stones on the four intersections surrounding the black. “The white stones cut off the four liberties of the black stone, so it’s eaten. If you had two black stones side by side, that would be six liberties, and require six stones surrounding to kill, and-”

“I'm so not following. Better give me something like twenty handicaps, oof-” You shifted your bottom off your heels and stretched your legs out. “Not sitting like that, my foot’s asleep.”

Kita chuckled and also adjusted to sit cross-legged instead. “Just sit comfortably.” He took a handful of black stones and put them in a row on each intersection. “Let’s play gomoku, instead.”

Gomoku, or five in a row. It was a simple game derived from using the go stones and board. There were no territory fights, kills, ladders, none of that. The only rule was that whoever could get five in a row first, would win.

“That’s easy! I go first then,” you said, taking the bowl of black stones.

“Sure.” Kita took the bowl of white stones.

Strategically speaking, whoever goes first had an upper hand. But four turns in, you found your current stone blocked while Kita’s stones began to slowly connect. You intercepted quickly. “Not on my watch.”

This was easy enough. You just needed to keep a close watch so Kita didn’t have three-in-a-row open-ended or four-in-a-rows with one end. If you missed either of those, come Kita’s turn and it would be game over.

“You’re pretty good,” Kita complimented as he put a stone down. “But it seems like I win this round.”

How? You stared at the bored. Kita pointed a finger at a cluster you hadn’t minded, until now. You were so careful in watching what Kita was doing in one half of the board, you didn’t see that his arbitrary placements were actually connected. And now you’re in a death trap. If you placed a stone on spot A to stop him, Kita would win via spot B. If you tried to cover B, then A would be left vulnerable.

You exhaled loudly. “Again! I’ll know next time.”

Five minutes later.

“Again.”

Two minutes later.

“That was a slip-up! Again!”

Three minutes.

“Shinsuke, you’re so mean!”

Six minutes.

Kita rubbed the stone between his fingers briefly before dropping the piece back into the bowl. “I lost,” he conceded.

“You see what I did there?” you beamed. You tapped the cluster and explained, “This was your tactic from the first round.”

“Yea, like I said, you’re good at this.” Kita began to clear the board of the stones again. “Let’s take a break now, we can play again later if you’d like.”

“You should teach me the full rules for Go next time,” you said, putting the wooden lids onto the bowls. “But, earlier you totally could’ve won. You shouldn’t just go easy on me, you know.”

Kita raised an eyebrow. “Really? Is that so?”

Later in the evening, the two of you played gomoku again. You never won another round. So, you exacted revenge through other means.

Gomoku is a “mini-game” that uses the same pieces, but honestly it can get pretty intense too. • Asago (朝顔) are morning glories. 朝= “morning” and 顔= “face/expression” • Seiza is a formal sitting position where you kneel and sit on the heels with legs folded/tucked under. The feet sort of cross into a v-dip “seat”.

- okay so I prefer sunsets ESPECIALLY where we live, they really just hit different in our town. but I WILL say that one of the clearest memories I have of childhood is when I woke up with my dad and my friend to see the sunrise on Catalina island when our school went there on a trip and it was so beautiful

9. what kind of weather represents who you are as a person?

- this is such a good question and I have like, no clue 😅 I’ve been sitting and thinking about this for a little bit now, and I'm thinking I’m kinda like the sunny days that are also like 50ish degrees bc of the cold breeze? when you first walk outside you’re like holy FUCK but then you stay there for a moment and let the sun warm you up and then you’re like oh okay, it actually isn't that bad! I think that fits me :) another alternative would be the cool night breeze, I think that might fit me a little better

15. what does the perfect kiss feel like?

- okay call me a sap for this one, but the soft kisses are the ones that feel most perfect to me. I've never kissed anyone I was truly in love romantically with but I HAVE kissed friends (plus my one ex) and the soft kisses where you’re both smiling a little and you’re moving with each other and you’re holding each other are the ones that make me melt... oof anyways time to watch pride and prejudice and yearn I guess

17. who are you most inspired by?

- I’m not sure there’s any one person I’m most inspired by, weirdly enough! I mean I could definitely say bts bc they inspire me, but in terms of actual people I think my loved ones inspire me just bc you see how they try to carve out their own pieces of happiness and it inspires me to do the same when I feel like I can't

...Although, it’s more like a stream of consciousness commentary. I try and fail not to make this too long as usual, so warning long post ahead.

Summary: Aidairo leaves us on that cliffhanger by giving us a break with tension-breaker Kou with his caring friends, more Mitsukou, and then dun dun dun they encounter a Wild Comic Relief of Universal Proportions Natsuhiko (poor fish and tarantula I hope they got back safe) and apparently Natsuhiko wants to capture No.6 like he’s the rarest pokemon of all and might have the secret key to the immortality fountain?? Will we ever know more about these mysterious man stay tuned next month. And oh yeah also No.6 always wanted to throw Aoi into the hole to rot away because he’s also a necromancer. Just great and swell here folks, don’t know how Nene and Akane are faring ~

Hey! Love your analyzes on the Dragon prince (mostly the Moonshadow fam). I was listening to The Hanging tree from Mockingjay prt 1 and for some reason felt like that would be such a Moonshadow elf song, and I was wondering if you’d have any thoughts about that?

Thanks so much! I’m always up for thinking way too deeply about the moonfam! And lyrics are honestly so much fun to analyze.

After listening to this one a few times, it feels like it could be an assassin’s love song. Like, all Moonshadows would sing it as a love song, but in the story of the lyrics, it’s being sung by an assassin to his love, whose gender is never specified.

The themes of life and death, and the odd illusion of time–has this happened already or will it happen soon, or both? Are there truly two events happening, or just the one?–give these intense lyrics a very Moonshadow feel. The slow reveal, verse by verse, that the singer is (or identifies with) the “man who murdered three” is a lovely picture of Moonshadow trust being earned.

Come meet me, and all my darkness. I know I may die for what I do. But never at your hands.

The way most of the song is an a capella solo gives it a plaintive quality, as if the singer is alone. This would be a song Runaan would hum to himself in the coin, wishing Ethari could come keep him company for a while, even if he’s going to die.

Assassins have loved and died throughout time immemorial. They and those who’ve loved them all have a metaphorical hanging tree in their minds, and one day, they’ll all visit it, one way or another. If Moonshadow elves associate one particular tree with assassins, its flowers probably look like the lotuses that Ethari made.

And to take yet another step into headcanon territory, this could be a song that the assassins sing specifically about being killed in the human lands and thinking of home in their final moments. The hanging tree is a very human instrument of punishment, and trees are integral to the Moonshadow way of life. Of course they’d see humans using them to kill people as dark and dangerous, but if you’ve got to pick a lyrical way to die for a sad romantic Moonshadow love song, you’ll pick a tree.

Hangings were public shaming events in our own history. The reason they were public was to keep everyone else in line through fear. Humans executing elves publicly would have a similar aim–though it would have little effect on Moonshadows except to invoke more attacks to set things right. But if that was ever a part of the human kingdoms’ policy toward elves caught in their lands, then I can see the Moonshadows, and the assassins specifically, romanticizing it as a way to accept the risk.

“Would you come to my hanging tree?” would be a very deep and serious question to ask of your beloved. It’s probably tantamount to asking them to marry you. “Will you stand with me even there at the hour of my death? Will you meet me as I cross over? I don’t want to be alone. I want to see you one last time.”

Oof, such a question. It admits very very secretly that maybe the assassin has a weakness. And it’s their beloved. You’d need to pick very carefully who and when you’d ask such a thing. But that epitome of trust–that’s about as romantic as Moonshadow assassins can get.

I delved really deeply into the Moonshadow assassins’ clothing once, looking for symbolism and patterns in the stripes on their outfits. Runaan’s turquoise lines look like they’re outlining the trunk and limbs of a massive tree.

Maybe Runaan is his own hanging tree, because he takes his fate into his own hands through his choices. That’s some heavy karma, my dudes.

Okay okay, let’s swim up, we’ve dived too deep! See, because even if Runaan fell in love with this song as a young recruit and always hoped he’d find a gentle lover to think of in his last moments, and even if he sang this song softly to Ethari and let him know that he loved him so much that he worried he might be afraid to die alone, Ethari heard this song, and instead of seeing the inevitable death and loss that Runaan saw, he plunked himself down at his worktable and yeeted out a couple of moon opal necklaces of hope. Because our precious boy will do everything he can to hold back that inevitable darkness for Runaan.

Runaan doesn’t need to worry about dying alone. Ethari would absolutely meet him at the hanging tree to let Runaan see him one last time before the humans sealed his fate.

favorite color(s): i don’t think i have any?? but lately ive been into pairing certain colors together like brown and blue, yellows and pink, matcha and creme/white

dream trip: oH I WANNA GO TO JAPAN TO SEE THE POKEMON TRAIN/ AIRPLANE, THE YUGIOH CAFES, AND THE LIFE SIZED UNICORN GUNDAM WITH MY OLDER BROTHERS!!! china is for when im with my parents :))) thailand, taiwan, korea, hawaii, and vancouver with amara! maaaaybe even Cambodia.. maybe. i just wanna tour all of asia with my best friend really heehee
