Today my students were working on a group project and got to talking about Naruto (the natural landing point when doing an activity about the carceral state... though HONESTLY, YEAH--)

Anyway, one of them said they always skip the filler episodes, and one of their group members shouted, NO.

YOUR LIFE WON'T BE COMPLETE IF YOU DON'T WATCH THE EPISODE WHERE THEY USE RASENGAN TO MAKE RAMEN.

I've never seen the Naruto anime, but man, same, kid, same. Not to gatekeep but Bleach filler is so

important to me, even though *we* never got any ostriches...

Have you seen Forest of Menos anime arc? It was going to be part of the manga but was cut to move the story along faster. Im sure there are notes about it in some of the volumes.

And Ashido Kano is constantly mentioned in complementary material

I have seen it! I tend to think that it was originally intended to have Themes and Meaningful Characters and overall fit into things better than it does in the anime, because in the anime it's...really not notably better than the rest of the filler. Ashido even feels (and looks!) like a character that Kubo needed a couple more passes on, he doesn't really have a "hook" to him.

Let's not forget that until this Stede has only had sex with Mary (that we know of) so now he's losing Ed not only the day after they first have sex but the day after he first has sex with anyone he's actually attracted to, not to mention in love with

Like, the man was flying so high and then lost it all (and had his lover call their night a mistake to his face) in under 24 hours, I think it's impossible to overstate how much he's really going through it at the moment

no coz the inn thing literally doesn't make any sense even if the plot & promos made it obvious it was coming SORRY like first of all why have that episode with anne and mary showing how miserable being locked into a boring life together makes them if you're gonna have stede and ed do the same thing like i just can't see how two people alone in the middle of nowhere with fuckall to do can be happy in the long term like they're just gonna start getting on each other's nerves. but more importantly why did they have that scene of zheng asking them to team up with her coz the three of them could be really strong together and have them agree only for that to then just.....not happen lmao

what’s wild is we can now be reasonably sure that, unless they’re separated again (one fear), stede may well say ‘i love everything about you. i love being near you. breathing the same air’ to ed’s face.

I do have a lot of questions lol. Like I feel Doing That was a bad choice but even if that was the plan all along and it’s just sticking to the original guns (which I can respect. don’t think it really fits the way the narrative grew but I respect following what you planned to do the whole way) it still felt very rushed. It was about six minutes altogether, and it kinda feels like maybe they didn’t think they were getting a third season so they just. Tried Everything At Once in case this was really it and now it’s left the show in a bit of a weird place.
