What if Macaque was Sun Wukong's actual shadow?
He talked about how he was ‘casted in the king's shadow’, so I thought that the idea of him literally being his shadow was pretty fun
The Great Sage Equal to Heaven is, of course, a very powerful being. And ‘very powerful’ means ‘could overthrow the Jade Emperor if he wanted to’. With how strong he is, it really wouldn't be a surprise if his shadow suddenly became alive
He and the shadow become friends. Really good friends. The best of friends. They were inseparable, and not only because they were literally glued to each other
Soon enough, the shadow took a form of its own. It mimicked its creator's appearance, except that it (he, now) had white fur and different eyes
Now, everyone knew about the king and his shadow, the sun and his moon, the hero and his warrior. They were invincible together. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could tear them apart
Then Sun Wukong gets trapped under a mountain for 500 years, and Liu Er Mihou is left alone, powerless without his sun
When the events of JTTW happen, the shadow finds its king again. But he doesn't want to come back to him, doesn't want to go home. In a fit of sadness, the moon decided to hurt the sun's companions, because surely they must be the reason why his light isn't coming back, right?
Long story short, Macaque's death happen. Wukong gets angry, and looses control of himself. He kills Macaque, and is left without his moon, without his shadow
Even after Macaque comes back, Sun Wukong still doesn't have a thing he can call shadow. Their relationship will never be the same as it was before, after all

Someone has probably already done these with the Sun Wukong and Macaque, but Tem asked me to draw them and I couldn't resist. They are angy monkeys, hear them hiss

What do you do when an episode hits?
Tumblr media
Make a lil guy!
Here’s my personal idea of Sun Wukong! The design is almost 100% subject to change as I dig up for details on his description and mess around with colours, but for now, monke.
Small thingies:
- His appearance is a loose mix between a rhesus macaque (which he is highly theorized to appear as) and a baby langur (because blorboification)
- I’m taking “Intelligent Stone Monkey” seriously here; he is a stoney boy
- He’s specifically a geode, meaning that being broken reveals rubies and gold underneath! (“What about those scenes that vividly describe his blood and organs?” Uhhh illusion magic/72 transformations next question)
- He is still a short kingtm
- The cloud-walking boots are fluffy because I say so
As said before, this is my personal interpretation of his appearance within the novel. If you have a different idea, that’s neat! I’d love to compare murderous fellas. Unless I’m genuinely portraying him harmfully, let’s all just have a good ole time :]

The Book of Life LMK AU where Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is the ruler of the Land of the Remembered, while Liu Er Mihou, The Six Eared Macaque, rules the Land of the Forgotten
One day, they visit a small town in China, and for fun, they decide to make a bet. They find three little children playing tag. Their names? MK, Red Son and Mei. Two of them were playfully fighting for the last one's love, so the sun and his moon decided to make a bet out of it—in the end, who will win the child's heart?
Sun Wukong chooses MK as his champion (obviously), while Macaque chooses Mei. The one who wins, will get the other to do everything he wants for a full hundred years
And so the journey begins!
Red Son was becoming too strong, too dangerous. His powers were out of control, and he would end up accidentally hurting someone sooner or later. Because of that, his parents send him away to train, so that he would be able to control himself and use his magic without hurting anyone. MK and Mei (who the best of friends), promise that they'll wait for him, no matter how much time Red Son is going to be away
One day, while Red Son was away, MK finds the staff, and meets the Monkey King. Wukong was, technically, obligated to train him, so no, Liu Er, it doesn't count as cheating
Both Mei and MK become famous around the town, even if it was for different reasons. Mei is the one who had the powers of the dragon, and MK is the Monkey Kid, so it's no surprise that they're well known
Thanks to MK finding the staff, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven was seen around earth more, training him. Because of this, there were a lot of people who wanted to take him and MK down to win their powers and become one of the most strong beings in the universe. Mei and MK are usually the ones driving them away, since Monkey King doesn't want to interviene because “that's against the rules” (no it's because he's supposed to be retired and part of the bet is not getting too interested into mortal things. If he fought them without them attacking him directly, then Macaque would be mad) (that's a SECOND lie he cares about MK and wants him to be able to fight for himself. Also if he personally intervienes he could get them in trouble)(<-- these are all true)
Years later, Red Son comes back, now more able to keep his flame under control. Mei and MK are thrilled to have him around again, so they keep on trying to steal his attention (which doesn't amuse Red Son at all. He doesn't want them to fight over such stupid reasons)
For a while, everything was good! Great, even. Until Lady Bone Demon heard about Monkey King's staff being on that town, used by a child who was no more and no less than Sun Wukong's successor. She starts to send more and more demons to capture him, wanting to test his strength and check how much SWK is involved with the things happening there
So, Macaque gets tired of waiting, and being the idiot he is sometimes, he manages to trick MK into thinking Red Son is dead and shoes him a way to go into the Land of the Remembered (without actually hurting him, of course. Immortality be damned, if he ever touched a hair on Sun Wukong's kid -- STUDENT, SWK would find a way to kill him)
Mei was about to leave town to go to another kingdom for a meeting (her family is rich, famous and really important in the whole world), and without their greatest defenses, the people would be unprotected. Only a very important matter would make her able to stay without entering war with the other kingdoms, and sadly, a friend's death wasn't enough for them
Luckily, Red Son loves her way too much to let her to go a meeting her best friend and soulmate (/p but u can see them as romantic if that's what you like) just died, so he agrees to marry for the sake of her (and the town too)
Wukong is sad because of the loss of his son apprentice, but also really angry because he lost the bet. Meanwhile, while Mac can't help but to feel a little bad, he's thrilled because SWK will have to do anything he says for a hundred years. So he asks to have full control of the Land of the Remembered for two decades, and SWK doesn't have any other choice but to agree
At the same time, when MK learns that he was tricked, he's furious. So he goes to the Monkey King's mountain to demand seeing Red Son again. Only to find that the one sitting in the throne is the same god who he made the deal with. Mac tells him about the bet, and MK is literally red from anger. He decides to tell SWK about how Macaque cheated, and with the help of Zhu Bajie (the JTTW one. The LMK one found MK when he was a kid and raised him. He's still alive), he overcomes all the challenges he has to face to reach the Cave of Souls
There, he finds Sha Wujing, the candle maker (again, the JTTW one. The LMK one is a blacksmith in the town), and reached SWK
When he tells him about how Macaque cheated, Sun Wukong is furious. Like, he's actually glowing
Sha Wujing: Cover your ears and eyes!
MK: Why?
Zhu Bajie: Just do it...
Sun Wukong, yelling so loud the floor trembles and glowing to bright he could blind someone: LIU. ER. MIHOU!
Macaque, appearing from the shadows: Yes, Peaches—? Oh.
So they have the same conversation that happens in the movie, and SWK sends MK back to the living again
And, talking about the living, the Lady Bone Demon is personally attacking the town, now, after hearing that the Monkey King's successor “died”. Mei and Red Son are barely standing. They almost start to believe all hope is lost when a yellow light blinds them all, and MK, along with the fucking Monkey King and The Six Eared Macaque for some reason? And SWK's old companions from the Journey to the West? What the fuck
Well, they're not going to complain about the reinforcements, so they fight together and beat LBD! Yay!
In the end, both MK and Mei start to date Red Son because why not? They're a famous trio all around the world. Or maybe the stay friends. I honestly don't care
