Usually he didn't care much for meeting new people. He was perpetually tired and a bit of a recluse, but the moment they acknowledged him and told him their name, his polite nature kicked back in and a small smile fell on his lips.

Ancient and/or historical buildings may be (partially) demolished in favor of peoples current urgent needs (say an ancient ruin makes place for a waterfiltering system the locals benefit from).
Magic is a term used for explaining concepts and things we humans do not understand or want to explain.
Coffins or other funerary works should be as cheap and simple as possible, for the person is dead and spending effort and time on the funeral is a waste of resources that could be spent on the living.
Pettyness, wrath and jealousy are worthless, you're better off removing yourself from the situation completely and finding something that brings you joy.
"It means that you could hit me better with the drinking." He smirked. "Let's see if those make me drink mote often then."
He poured himself another drink and sipped it. "Gotta drink on this. No. Actually history seems to be something worthwhile to humans and I am a firm believer of looking back at your roots to see how far you have come. I will say though that if you have to chose between a building and a crucial deed to keep your people alive, the history is not the most important thing."
Mariku halted and slowly nodded when they came to the next part. "Are we starting a philosophical discussion or an etymological one now?" He smirked. "Old Persian already includes the word 'magush', which then went through Greek, Latin and French. People always create names and labels for things they don't want to think about, but in and of itself magic means nothing else but 'being able to influence or predict events by using spiritual and or natural hidden forces' so... the art of using the 'supernatural'. In short, being different and, caution here, being STRONGER than the natural human being 'should be'. What else did you expect, really?"
He laughed lowly, refilled his glass and drank deeply. "I know what you are thinking... I come from a long line of tomb keepers and this has to look really riddiculous. But call me a sinner or not, I believe that we're all equal in death. You can think what you like about dying, but we all stop living and existing here. And what or if something happens after, is a complete gamble." He shrugged. "How stupid is the concept of being in an existence of a trial and error world, to be thrown in what will be your experience for the rest of your life... the thought alone is ABSURD.
So no. For me the body is unrelated and empty, once the occupant dies. The only resson you'd give it an oppulent burial is to soothe yourself, not the corpse in the rites."
He fiddled with the glass for a moment and then refilled it, to empty it once more.
"Simply can't agree with that. While it's a good coping mechanism, repression is ... not. Repressing feelings causes them to get worse and worse... the only way around that is either to act upon them, or crizically review and destroy them." He shrugged. "I'm the best example."

A lot of things actually. With clarity of the mind and seclusion from Marik, he has started to understand that he wants to be separate and different.
He has grown less violent - or needy for violence, because it isn't his go to solution for everything anymore.
He has found topics that are actually interested in - almost like hobbies.
And most importantly, he sees no merit in the destruction of the world anymore.

He is very personal. In contrary to Marik, he doesn't just want people around him, he absolutely doesn't trust people. They more or less make him feel like he can't trust anybody.
He has nothing against friendships or acquaintances... but he doesn't want anybody to follow him. And little to no people know about his darker life, because he simply doesn't want to talk about it.
In his head, nobody needs to protect him, because he doesn't view himself as a person. And let's be honest here... no human really could protect him.
magnolia
Umbramancy is a kind of magic I would count into arts of nature. While dependent on light, shadow is something that also is deeply embedded into every physical being.
In fact he thrives in nature, he actually kind of adores it. The fact that it is everywhere and that people simply don't appreciate it make him beyond livid. He connects to it in a way that he doesn't automatically do towards humans.
It makes so much sense for him to love the sunlight and worship the sun, because without it shadow couldn't exist. While he firmly refuses to take a believe in any kind anymore, it is just embedded into him to enjoy the sun and light it produces.

sunlight for memories of a word or place?
Marik had learned about the Gods as early as he could talk. In passing it was easy to review their life like stumbling through one of the dark corridors.
His back was still pulling harshly, but the worst was behing him. Through the bandages everything seemed to be set aflame, itchy and uncomfortable, but he could manage.
On the shaded ground of the tomb (his tomb - something wispered inside him coldly) he was still reviewing Marik's education in passing, learning about their gods, their world from afar. The felony of humans, the wrath and power of the Gods. Sometimes, it felt like they weren't even human... the access to the world was denied to him, but they hadn't passed on to the afterlife...
Burried at the portal between the living and the dead... his mind was stuttering on the thought that all of them lived a half life... and under Marik's skin, he lived a quarter. Light was sloely creeping around the lip of the former well and descended into their pit... he wasn't even sure if the sunlight was the same above him, on the surface... did they breathe the same air? Were there other humans still around?
He glared into the sky until the fiery Ra hurt his eyes and caused them to close, sprigs of light flitting behind his eyelids, like they wrre eating his sight from the inside. His ears were ringing and the heat was hurting his scars.
When the flaring in his back caused his cheeks to get wet, he rolled back into the darkness, his stomach rolling with unspilled vomit.
He waited until the feeling passed and vanished into the hard ground like every bit of lost water would, before he glared at the unrelenting stone.
The thought was beyond treacherous, but he knew he wasn't alright. That omote wasn't alright. Maybe they would never be again.
What god would make people suffer because of their heritage, some knowledge... what unkind, vengeful, horrible creatures... some GODS.
He sniffled and got up, since the ground refused to swallow them whole.
The first time Mariku faced the sun, through Marik's eyes, his sister behind him, breath flaring in his lungs like small birds and wiggly saurians, he knew why the gods had kept them beneath the sand and stone, down below.
He finally knew that their reign of terror could never keep him chained, nobody could. He had seen freedom, breathed adventure and faced Ra, their sun, eye to eye, like an equal. He wouldn't belong to some gods, they couldn't keep him.
He belonged to himself. Marik and him they might have been different, but they weren't tools, nor toys. They weren't beggars, they could be choosers. They had power now and nobody could take it away from them anymore.

Are there any games you enjoy besides dual monsters? And actually, after everything that happened, do you still enjoy dm? Or was it more a means to an end?
"In all honesty, it's a casual vice for me. I don't engage in tournaments at all anymore... it's simply not as appealing as it used to be in Battle City. The whole thing about using card games back then was to keep in omote's mind-frame and also to beat the king with his own weapon of choice."
He chuckled lowly.
"A lot of BULL, if you ask me. I should have plunged a knife in his chest and be done with it... but apparently that wasn't what I wanted back then, so I lost."
He shrugged slowly and folded his arms.
"Honestly I am getting a lot more into video games. Not that I own any, heh, but it's still fun to get to play them. Horror is something I have been enjoying and sometimes Adventures can be pretty interesting as well.
I also wouldn't mind to try out some of these 'Tabletop' games more... I mean, I really didn't have the chance to explore much and now the people I can play with are a little ... SPARSE."
