Part IV Gold tooling and covers

I gold tooled the leather and, hooray for me, remembered to degrease the leather with alcohol before the tooling.  (I use isopropyl alcohol.) I keep forgetting this part and am lucky for most of the time. But fact is, as long as there’s grease on the surface (usually from handling the leather so it’s not really visible at all), there is always a chance for the adhesives in the foil not to stick. This is no bother with fabrics or paper, but it is an issue with leather and parchment (at least those are the ones I know of).

For the hot stamping I have a custom made aluminum stamp for titling and modified my awl. The needle is replaced with a round brass rod and the wooden handle makes it easy to handle even with the brass being heated up. It’s only 2mm in diameter and looses heat quickly, but with the few dots I have to make that’s okay with me. I had to cut it down a few times until I got a length sturdy enough to apply pressure with though.

The decorative covers are those most commonly used for this volume. I cleaned the picture up, tweaked the colours a bit, because I neither liked the over-saturated colours my copy came with nor the slightly monochrome looking one I found online. I also widened the picture enough to have also coloured turn-ins.

they're showing "the exploits of moominpappa" in our local cinema this sunday (with polish dub) and my dad got me a ticket!! 💖 i have not seen the remastered version yet because i hoped i would be able to watch it on a big screen and now i will!
