You know, we only see Hannibal sniffing Will two times. Once when he detects his encephalitis and then in Mizumono when he smells Freddie. But that doesn't mean he didn't smell him periodically. And I am sure he did. We never find out how Will smells like to Hannibal without his encephalitis. He for sure feels more than that horrendous aftershave. I demand to know.

An Introduction to the Peoples of Rain World

Humans* are bipedal sophonts that originated from the numerous underground cave systems before spreading across the surface world. They're typically covered in linear patterns left behind by embryonic development [Blaschko's lines] and have 'hair' that were initially sensory antennae with bioluminescent spots for communication.

The groups above represent the three main races of human in this world: tall and wiry Grasslanders; hardy Mountainfolk; and the small and vibrant Islanders.

Grasslanders can be considered the 'dominant' group, with the formation of the Divine Hegemonic Cultural Sphere, an empire that hosts the Grasslander Dynasties and is the origin of concepts such as Ascensionism. They believe themselves to have the Divine Mandate of Enlightenment--which is pretty much just their version of manifest destiny. Most iterators are located within the DHCS.

In the Northern Houses are the Mountainfolk, who live in separate city-states not under the DHCS's control. This is due to the relatively inaccessible terrain in which they reside, however it is also the source of many prosperous mining sites, so the DHCS must maintain friendly relations with the Northern Houses. During the iterator era, the DHCS began to encroach on Northerner territory as the climate warmed, with many Houses severing ties with the DHCS and retreating into the far north, while others resisted but were eventually put down and 'absorbed' into the DHCS. It is likely that the Houses that left long ago still exist in the modern day, beyond the reach of Global Ascension.

Lastly are the Oceanic Houses: colonies of Islanders overtaken and governed by the DHCS. In the wake of their conquest, a new 'high class' was developed, consisting of mixed Grasslander/Islander blood to establish 'peace' between the two groups. Colonies could not be governed by pure Islanders.

The territories of the Oceanic Houses were often the testing sites of many of the DHCS's projects, usually without informing the local populace. As the overall climate warmed in the iterator era, and sea levels rose, many colonies were lost beneath the waves.

this was full of novelty, a very ambitious project for me. I tried some new things in composition and texture, in hopes of doing justice to the theme. tried to incorporate life & death themes to the details, like: the skeletons, spine, seeds, flowers... the rough x the smooth... the eerie and the bright… the yin/yang kinda composition… and the choice of flowers has some symbolism as well. (originally I'd add a lot more of them, flowers connected to life and to death. but in the end, I had to hold my horses bc there were too many ideas going on x'])

They're kinda like divinities here. In their meeting, nature finds the perfect balance and it is just magical to watch! Those were my thoughts when creating. (looking back at it now, I kinda think it looks like a tarot card)

anyways, I hope you appreciate this. I put a lot of thought and effort on it. <3

as funny as the idea of shadow being completely unable to use technology is i feel like it doesnt actually make much sense because like . yeah he basically fell asleep 50 years ago and woke up in the modern day and theres been a lot of changes in culture and technology that he'd have to get used to. but he wasnt living on earth with zero exposure to computers he was living on a space station where the science was advanced enough for them to be able to create him. maybe he'd struggle a bit using modern computers/phones/etc but i dont think he'd just know nothing about technology either. you know.
