#the disconnect between how the kids see the business as the way to know logan loves them and logan sees it as the way to accumulate

the intersection of business and familial love in succession is so interesting— the kids think being crowned ceo is the ultimate expression of Logan’s love for them and he sees it only in terms of the business. from his point of view they have no idea what they’re doing because everytring has been handed to them, and kn their point of view being shut out of the company is him rejecting them, literally denying the love roman offers (what have you got in your hand, I don’t know fucking love). logan knows he can use the ceo position to put the kids against each other but I’m not sure if he knows he’s made it into the only way in their minds to know he really loves them. it’s probably a mixture of both—logan loves them and would like to give it to his favorite but from his pov they all fucking suck in their own way

Okay. Okay. I can’t believe I’m being enabled like this.
Okay. Sorry that this took a bit, but I’ve been busy, and I also had to come up with what I wanted to talk about. After much deliberation, I’ve decided that I want to talk about chapter 47. (I will explain which one that is under the cut.)
*Spoilers For What You Can Stand Ahead*
Chapter 47, titled “The Inevitable” is the chapter following Roman’s betrayal, and it’s the chapter in which Virgil accidentally uses his Propensity on Patton. I decided to do an in-detail analysis of nearly the entirety of this chapter. I may have gone a little out-of-control... I apologize for the length of this. Virgil woke up to sunlight streaming in from the window. He clenched his eyes shut and raised a hand, trying to block it out. His throat felt like he’d swallowed glass, and his arms ached. As he sat up and his eyes began to adjust to the light, Virgil realized where he was.He frowned. No, that couldn’t be right. That would mean…The events of the day before all came rushing back.No. No, no, no, no.  Almost instantly after Virgil wakes up, he is in a state of panic. The night before and Roman’s betrayal is still fresh in his mind, and he doesn’t know how to cope with that. He is in a very unstable mental state.
“So,” He said, “What exactly went down, kiddo? We saw some of it on the news- did something happen between you and Roman..?”
Just hearing his name made everything come back to Virgil. His blood boiled.
“Yeah.” Virgil growled. “Something happened.”
“Oh, no- did you two get into a fight?”
Virgil clenched his jaw, “Something like that.”
Patton gave him a concerned look, “You seem off, bud- Are you feeling alright?” He said, putting a hand to Virgil’s forehead.
Virgil remembered Roman’s hand brushing his bangs aside in the exact same place, so delicately- he swatted Patton’s hand away, “Don’t touch me!” He said.
Patton looked taken aback, “What did Roman do?”
“Why are you so nosy all of the sudden?” Virgil snapped. He was in the mood to pick a fight.
Patton made an affronted sound, “I’m not being nosy- I just want you to talk to me!”
From Patton’s perspective, this kid who he has basically adopted at this point showed up at his house in the middle of the night, then immediately passed out on the couch. So, of course Patton wants to know what happened, and he wants to know why, but Virgil doesn’t even want to think about what happened, and Patton trying to bring it up only makes things worse. Neither of them is in the wrong, really, Patton is just concerned, and Virgil is just hurt.
“You do know you’re not <em>actually</em> my dad, right?” Virgil said.
This is the point at which things escalate. Here, Virgil takes it way too far. He’s angry, and tired, and heartbroken, and he says this thing that completely goes against his own thoughts and feelings, just to provoke Patton.
“I- Of course I know that! That doesn’t mean I can’t be worried about you!”
“I can take care of myself!” Virgil yelled.
Virgil is back to feeling as if he can’t trust anyone, as if he has to be completely independent. He trusted Roman, and he nearly got imprisoned because of it. He feels trapped in this house with these people. What if they betray him, too? He can’t rely on anyone, anymore. He doesn’t want their help.
“Really?” Patton said, his voice raising, “You were the one who showed up to our home the middle of the day with no warning and passed out for twelve hours-”
“Patton, Virgil, you both need to calm down-“ Logan interjected, but his words fell upon deaf ears.
Patton finally snaps, and he takes the bait, fighting back against Virgil. Logan is beginning to see that things are spiraling out of control, but he’s too late to be able to stop it.
“Just because I’m at your house doesn’t mean I have to tell you about something that’s <em>none of your fucking business</em>.”
“I- I know that, kiddo, but as someone who loves you, I just want to-” Patton put a hand on Virgil’s arm, trying desperately to convey how much he cared, but it had the opposite effect.
Virgil leapt up, “I SAID DON’T TOUCH ME!”
There. There it is. This is where everything piles together: Virgil’s heartbreak, his anger, his distrust- it all comes to a peak, and everything goes wrong. I’m sure you can recall what happens from here.
Virgil’s eyes widened. He didn’t. He couldn’t have.
No. No, no, no, no, no. Shit, shit, shit.
He had-
He had used his Propensity on Patton.
This is Virgil’s worst nightmare. Using his Propensity on his parents when he was young is Virgil’s biggest regret. In his mind, it is the ultimate proof that he is irredeemable, that he is a monster, and that he can never do anything but push others away. He worked for years to try and learn control, to try and prevent anything like that from happening again, and yet, here, it’s happening. His anger melts away, and he is left with pure terror and regret. Patton is the first person who actually cared him after the academy. He was the only good thing in Virgil’s life for a considerable amount of time, and Virgil has ruined everything.
“Logan, I’m so sor-“
“Get out.” Logan said firmly. His voice was trembling.
“What?” Virgil said.
“Get out of my house.” Logan commanded.
“But I want to-“
“Virgil!” Logan yelled. Everything else went silent. His fists were clenched at his sides, and he was physically trembling. “I will not repeat myself a third time.” Fucking OW. I forgot how fucking devastating I made this, Jesus Fucking Christ. Okay. So, Logan. Though his backstory is kept fairly ambiguous in What You Can Stand, there are several things that can be gleaned from what I have both directly and indirectly written. He came from a wealthy, famous family, and he has dealt with heavy attention and press coverage for a good portion of his life (much like Roman). It’s unclear whether his disconnection with emotions is due to the attention on him, or directly from his parents, but I would say it’s a combination of both. His parents are implied to be homophobic (wow, look, another parallel to Roman.. it’s almost like that was purposeful). Though I haven’t stated it, Logan did not have very many friends, growing up. He was a focused, scholarly child, and he isolated himself from other kids in favor of showing no emotions and studying. For Logan, Patton was the first person he ever had a close relationship with. They met at the academy, and Logan was likely somewhat perplexed by Patton’s upbeat attitude, but Patton was kind to him, and he was funny, and he was handsome, and, most of all, he was fucking persistent. And, eventually, he became Logan’s best friend. And THEN, Logan began to realize that this might actually be more than friendship... you know the drill. The point is, when his parents found out, they told Logan to stop this immediately, and he refused to, so they kicked him out.
The point is, Patton is basically Logan’s entire world, and that’s why Logan is so protective of him and so ridiculously in love with him. So, when Virgil made Patton hurt, and he made Patton more afraid than Logan had ever seen him, Logan was terrified. On instinct, he was full of rage against whoever had hurt his husband, even when it was someone who Logan had grown to care for. Logan was experiencing so many different emotions, and he just wanted Virgil to leave, so that he could focus on Patton.
To Virgil, the message that Logan is sending is not just “leave” but also “don’t come back”. This is where Virgil completely loses his support system, and he is pushed into an even worse mental state than before, riddled by guilt and pain and regret and anger and heartbreak. This chapter is crucial to explaining why Virgil would try something as buck wild as breaking into Roman’s house to steal the key to the city.
..This ended up being really angsty, so let me just say this. The important thing about chapter 47 is that Virgil was wrong about the situation. He didn’t lose Patton and Logan forever. In chapter 52, they are there for him, just like they always are. They aren’t his birth parents. They aren’t going to leave him or push him away out of sheer cowardice. Logan apologizes profusely for what happens, and they all are still a family. Because Virgil was never the one at fault for what happened with his birth parents- they were. They cared more about their fear than they did their own son, and they gave up on him. Patton and Logan will never give up on Virgil, which is why they will always be 100000x better than his birth parents.
If you read all the way through this, wow, I admire your strength. I hope this made sense and gave better insight into the motivations and meaning of this chapter in the scope of the story as a whole. Sorry, again, for how long this ended up.

W.A.L: “We Won’t Eat Our Words (they don’t taste so good),” (16)
s u m m a r y:
Eden was the lowest of the low, a monster, hardly human, and was set to be executed. Roman was on trial, perpetually stuck in time until it was time to atone for his families sins.
Neither cared much for staying trapped.
So when a Stranger offered freedom, offered peace, offered power, it was hard to say no.
Even if it put them on the wrong side of history.

It’s a closet.
A glorified closet, so Deceit honestly doesn’t know what to tell you about it other then it's dark, it's cramped, and that Logan is insistent that they absolutely cannot eavesdrop on Dr. Picani and Lazy Cow and instead must stew in this dark, did he mention cramp closet?
Deceit was reaching the point of boredom where he was tempted, ever so slightly to just leave and keep walking. He felt that impulse as well as the impulse to get nostalgic because Deceit had been shoved into a lot of closets for a lot of reasons. Some not good, some...more enjoyable, but most a tantalizing mixture of both.
Before he could indulge, the door abruptly opened, light streaking inside. Dr. Picani was a stark shadow looming above them. He seemed to have aged several years within the past few minutes, but his expression was the same pleasant, not quite a smile, not quite a frown so that anyone else wouldn’t have noticed a change if they were under the assumption that Dr. Emile Picani was a pleasant person. But Deceit didn’t think many people were pleasant, himself included, so he assumed the worst and didn’t question it further.
“Oh,” Dr. Picani said, but not to them, “You didn’t turn on the lights,” he said, snapping and like that, Deceit felt exposed, one by one candle on either side of a long aisle lit up, seemingly forever.
Dr. Picani didn’t step inside, “Take as long as you want, but know that I’ll be busy if anything arises,” He handed them a phone, “Use this if you have an emergency, but only if you have an emergency,” He handed the phone to Logan, not even waiting for protests or goodbyes, it felt familiar.
He was gone leaving the three of them in this long corridor, light flickering gently, beckoning them forward into the stretch of darkness.
---
“Back so soon?” The Stranger asked from the floor. Their dark hair spilled over his shoulders, long, much longer then it had been when he first came here. His clothes hung loosely from their now gaunt form, their blue eye focused on the unending white space above.
Emile clicked his pen, “I’m here for your evaluation,” he said.
“Sure you are, “ The Stranger batted his eyes, lips curled, predatory.
Emile ignored them, not even a glance up from their clipboard, “He died.”
The Stranger faltered, “He resigned?” he asked.
“Yes,” he said, “He found out about Dot and I guess he...I don’t know what he thought was going to happen. But I certainly didn’t stop him, it was his right.”
“It was his--” The Stranger scowled, “Why are you justifying this, the hell is wrong with you?" he hissed, standing all at once, “Did you even try to stop him? Did you even try to console him or did you just sit there like a fucking bitch on a leash again--”
“Oh, you’re trying to lord over me,” Emile sneered, “You use her, you’ve used him, every step of the way and you dare to say I don’t care,” He glanced down at his clipboard surprised, ink running as tears ran hot down his face, “She wouldn’t have been in the situation if you’d just… just,” he wiped his eyes, “Leave it be. Whatever you were planning, let’s just leave it behind.” he choked, running his hands in his hair, “Let’s --Let’s,” he stumbled forward and the Strange caught him, surprised.
“Emile?” The Stranger, wrapped his arms around their shoulders, feeling them shake, “Emile, you’re not making any sense, it’s too late for any of that...”
Emile looked up and The Stranger’s breath caught. His hair was messy, their face all blotchy and glasses askew, they were like a little kid, “I don’t know how I’ll do it, but I don’t want to fight anymore I don’t know what I, what I...”
“Darling, how exactly do you plan to get us out of this then,” The Stranger reasoned, smoothing their bangs back with soft touches, “It won’t last, we never do--”
Emile kissed the Stranger, hard, desperate like how the Stranger’s kissed him so many times before. And the Stranger kissed back. He ached, as Emile’s hands cupped his face, tugged his body as if trying to get him closer as if for the first time he was trying.
“Em, ” The Stranger felt his back hit some sort of wall, and he groaned feeling Emile press into him again, “Oh, that’s one way to say you're happy to see me,”
Emile laughed between his hiccups, hands gripping The Stranger’s hips as he rested his head in the crook of their neck, “Mm, “ he hummed, “Something like that.”
“Y’know, what you said about me…” The Stranger swallowed, “ About me being no better than you, about how I used them…”
The Stranger could feel them frown against his skin, “You know I didn’t mean it,” Emile promised, it was so strange to hear him be the one to promise such things. It’s been so long, too long.
“I know you didn’t mean it,” The Stranger reassured them, because after so many messy breakups, and messier arguments they said a lot of untruthful things about each other, “But I mean it when I say, I did use him,” he admitted, fingers tracing careful arcs in Emile’s chest, eyes bright, “The Old Man tried so hard to prove that I was worth something, but I did use him. And I would’ve done it again,”
“That’s not true…” Emile’s words were disconnected, his mouth like cotton as he looked up to meet the Stranger’s eyes, so desperate, so pleading, so...vulnerable.
“I mean it,” The Stranger said cooly, “I used Dot, but she knows that she’s fine with that--and,” he did not stutter, “I love you, you know that? I loved you for so long, but--”
“But? What are you--” Emile’s eyes grew wide as he tried to move away, to let go, but his body remained firmly in place, holding the Stranger so gentle as the Stranger’s soft touches grew cold.
“I love you, Emile,” The Stranger repeated as if it’d change it all, as if years from now they’ll laugh at this and it would be fine because he did love Emile and some time ago Emile may have loved him just as much, “But we we're never meant to last, I’m building something that will last.”
Emile’s eyes flickered with recognition, feeling the all-too-familiar probing of his mind sneak up on him all at once, “No-no-no, you can’t,” He pleaded, “why can’t we leave it--”
“Elliot.” The Stranger’s command was sharp.
And Emile, his team-mate, his jailer, his stubborn lover who was all too persistent and steadfast in all the wrong things, was out like a light.
---
It was a long trek into the darkness, the candles providing little light and even less warmth as they walked down the corridor. Virgil first, who navigated easily, his many eyes dilated, flickering at every shadow and noise. Then it was Deceit because it would be foolish not to keep an eye on him, and then Logan, the one keeping an eye on him.
“Does this go on forever,” Virgil complained.
“Are your legs bothering you?” Logan asked, and Deceit groaned. They were doing the thing where they talk through Deceit as if that makes their relationship any less awkward.
“No it's my-I didn’t say that,” Virgil sniffed, catching himself again, though Deceit could tell he was getting slower or at least he was more distracted. Still, whether that was attributed to fatigue was anybody's bet.
“If you didn’t want a response, you shouldn’t have said anything,” Logan replied.
Virgil spun around at that, now walking backwards, “How do you know I was talking to you, huh?” he said, face pinched, “I could’ve been talking to the snake-fucker for all you know.”
Logan sighed, “Were you, Virgil?”
Virgil snorted, “Of course not--Shit-” As he spun back around he slammed into a wall, Deceit slammed into him, and Logan slammed into Deceit.
“What was that…” Virgil groaned, staggering to their feet.
“A wall,” Deceit drawled, eyes flickering over the heavily carved wall.
“I think he means,” Logan stood up, readjusting their glasses, “What does it mean,” Deceit rolled his eyes, “It looks ancient, Alesener maybe.”
“Oh great, “ Virgil sighed, “It's not like they stopped teaching Alesener, years ago.”
“I’m sure there’s another way,” Logan said, inspecting the carvings, frown growing deeper, “Maybe I can pull up a translator,”
“On ancient Alesner?” Virgil's nose curled, hands tracing the markings, “Sure.”
“Well I don’t see you having any ideas--”
“It's a riddle.” Deceit cut in. Normally he’d just, let them figure it out and play dumb, but he didn’t want to stay here in a children’s maze with these two bickering.
“A riddle,” Virgil echoed lamely.
“A riddle.” Deceit confirmed glancing at the wall again, mostly for show.
Wall carvings were a common form of decoration in the Alesener village, but they were usually nonsense since the art was less in the meaning and more in the elegance the words form. Dot, however, seems to enjoy both. Her walls were littered with puns and riddles, all of which seemed profound at first, but after the extensive translation was more often than not children’s puns at best or dirty jokes at worst.
“How would you know that?” Logan asked, but in a tone that sounded more like a demand than anything.
“Yeah, you're not exactly a scholar,” Virgil said with a skeptical look.
“Like it's any of your business,” Deceit scoffed, before thoughtfully scanning the riddle again, “What I’m getting is that we need a map and the map is most likely…” Deceit frowned, “The truth?”
“Ah, it’s that type of maze,” Logan nodded as if that made perfect sense, “To enter each new part of the maze, someone in the group needs to admit a truth, the stronger the truth, the faster we get out of the maze.” he recited without faltering, “Usually it's harder then you realize to tell a perfect truth, so we have to be careful, these usually have some sort of...difficulty increase if someone lies.”
“Difficulty?” Deceit eyed the wall cautiously as if it’ll burn.
“Monster’s perhaps,” Logan shrugged, “Or it might make it harder to get out.”
“Fantastic,” Virgil sighed, “So how do we, y’ know, get goin’?”
“Easy,” Logan approached the wall, raising a hand and pressing it in the center of the deep markings, “I am an Apprentice,” he said and at first nothing happened.
Then there was the groaning, the stone wall scraping, inch by inch open, before revealing two pathways. Logan stepped forward, and the others followed.
If they had looked behind them, they would have seen the candles flicker behind them, getting taller, their golden flames unruly and leaving puddles in their wake. And once the wall shut again the dancing flames went out all at once.

About this Revival of a Revival business
Okay, so some of you messaged me about my feelings regarding the Metro article on Gilmore Girls Part 2: Three Women and a Baby, and some asked what it means for my stories, so I’m just going to address it in one long post because it’s easier than doing 15 different PMs. And maybe only three people will see this, but whatever (too few follower problems haha). Warning,  extreme ramblings and nonsensical arguments are below.
My main gripe about all this is that AYITL ended perfectly for what the Palladinos wanted to achieve, despite the anger I had over it. Everyone got their okay-ish ending, and most of all people could speculate what would become of Rory, kind of like the end of Season 7. Fine, leave it at that. Great ending. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!
Emily’s story was perfect. Honestly, it was the best part. Kelly had fantastic lines and was tremendous. Amazing. Can’t think of enough adjectives. But for those of you who don’t know, Kelly really had to make it work. Her husband is ill, so one of the kids had to move up from Florida to stay with him while she was in California. It took a lot of finagling to get Kelly available. If her husband is ill would she want to do that again, and get a kid to take time off to help? So I get the feeling Kelly would be in very little (or watch ASP kill Emily off). Shame, because Lorelai’s relationship with her parents really makes the show for me.
Lorelai’s struggle over the death of her father was so wonderful. That phone call in Fall just about killed me. It was everything I wanted back in the original show. Again, Lorelai’s arc was just what I needed. Now with Luke. Most of the whole manufactured drama with Luke was because Amy said it always upset her that the fans never got the wedding they always wanted. So they needed a way to put the wedding in there. BUT THEN – they couldn’t even do the bigger wedding because shockingly all that money had to go into producing that stupid, annoying musical.  And what would be their great manufactured crisis now? (Watch, one of them gets deathly ill or something). And now Lauren has a pilot – what’s going to come of that and trying to get her in the Revival Part 2: All Night Dance Marathon Electric Boogaloo?
Rory’s career arc was just flabbergasting. The reviews were right – feels like it should be about Rory in her twenties. After all these years she couldn’t go hmmm I need a job? Nothing about her career makes sense. How does she afford to travel? What is she even doing? Then she gets her big break with eccentric Naomi to write a book, which goes down the toilet, won’t even bother to try with Suzy says and Conde Nast, just ew. And then Jess appears and after four years goes “write a different book about your mom!” Which let me tell you, angers me no end. Not only is it as meta as fuck, but this is not a “fix it”, Rory. She will still need money to live before the baby shows up. That’s if someone decides to publish it. Then she’d have to find a way to support herself after it is published. Just, ew. It’s a cheap as hell solution to a much larger problem. But again, everything is swept under the rug by ASP and Co! So Miss “I want to be the next Amanpour” will just be floundering in the Hollow? *vomits*
I said long ago that I would be perfectly fine with whatever the Palladinos had in store regarding relationships. Naïve ole me thought they’d all just show up for a cameo. Listen, I never shipped. I still have magazines debating Jess versus Dean, but I didn’t shed a tear when they left. I was always like well Rory has moved on. Then the details of the revival came in. At first I thought, well the only one I could really see being all that serious would be Logan. Then spoilers trickled in and we knew he was in quite a bit, so it got me thinking. They spent a lot of money on Matt. Milo, who worked very little in early 2015, was only on set four days. It seems like Logan was going to be the contender. Alright, fine with me. I can deal with that. Makes sense. It was her most serious relationship and they loved each other very much. Can I go back to being that naïve again?
Then Amy and Dan said “I don’t know why people pay attention to who she dated in high school. Over and done with.” (That makes it seem to me like Dean and Jess don’t have a future btw) Amy and Dan acting like Rory’s relationships are not a big deal just annoys me no end. They were a big deal. OBVIOUSLY, IT’S THE BIGGEST ONE OF THEM ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR DUMB ENDING. So that brings me to the boys.
Dean was always the most blah. But his ending was great. Have fun shooting in Vancouver Jared because we really never need to see you again!
God, I’m so angry about Jess. We still don’t know very much about him, other than he’s an author and lives somewhere… and visits Stars Hollow often to see Luke and Doula. Still has a thing for Rory who just can’t really give him any attention (sad as hell). There’s so much I want to know about him! Again, they could have scratched that dumb musical for more Milo. He was available. I know Jess has a lot of fans, but I would personally need a lot of Rory/Jess scenes for a possible romance with Rory in Gilmore 2: Judgement Day. Rory said “I might have loved you,” but she never really reciprocated so I never got the feeling she ever did? So would Rory just go from not really paying attention to him for these last eight years to thinking he’s the love of her life? What? Even ASP and Dan went “they’re star-crossed and family now” so the rational side of me thinks that’s never going to happen. But then I think about how Luke was never intended for Lorelai but they changed because of the fans. And there are a lot of fans out there. But would Milo be involved in Revival Part 2: Return of the Krakenbaby? He’s in a popular show now. I don’t watch TV but I hear he has a big part.  Won’t he be busy?
Then Logan! We know nothing about Logan! Why is he working with his father? Why is he Rory’s sounding board? Why is he the only one who knows what’s going on with her? Logan is her best friend, more than Paris and Lane.  I know people don’t agree with me, but honestly, OS Rory and Logan had a mature, adult relationship. Logan understood her Stars Hollow and Yale life, didn’t disparage her about it, called her out on her privilege.  Again, naïve ole me thought that Amy and Dan thought Logan was it based on the way they wrote him with all those stupid marriage references. Boy was I wrong. Listen,   Alexis said we’d know who had won her heart. I think Alexis knows it’s Logan. So let me move onto this sham of a relationship they had.
They are having an affair, but it doesn't seem like an affair because it’s pretty serious for them? She’s basically living with him. Remember, Naomi’s book was going to take eight weeks. So she’s living with him for those eight weeks and who know’s how long she’s been crashing there before. She’s getting her shit shipped there. So this has been going on long enough for her to have the audacity to do that? They are going on to eat all the time, having fun, he’s planning dates. They are both putting in the effort to have this serious affair when neither of them do not put that effort into their other lovers. AND THEN we learn about his fiancee. I was like wow what the hell Amy why are you both making them so shitty. And I was all aboard the Logan doesn’t care enough to break it off train because for some reason he still wants to marry Odette but then… DYNASTIC PLAN? WHY in the world would they write that if it didn’t have some meaning? So does he not want to marry her? Rory doesn’t want this nonrelationship either but won’t tell him? Okay, Amy and Dan could have easily made it a wham-bam-thanks for the sex type of relationship, but no they did not write it that way. They are putting feelings into this. Logan is begging her to tell him what’s happening. There’s such a disconnect between what they write and what they want to show. Why do Amy and Dan want us to believe they don’t care about each other in some capacity? ARE YOU SEEING WHAT YOU’RE WRITING?  So Rory are Logan are just going to shut up about what they really want in Revival Part 2: The Palladinos Strike Back Against Negative Reviews? Both will be unhappy? I just don’t get it.
So Rory is pregnant. It’s not the Wookie’s, it’s not Jess’, it’s not Paul’s. They said the hints were there. It’s Logan’s, we all know it’s Logan’s, it goes with her full circle bullshit after all. I get the feeling that Amy was going for Rory not telling him and doing it alone because you know, Rory has to lead the shitty life, but it’s just WHAT? Lol, let’s be real. Lorelai will know it’s Logan’s. Even Lorelai told Chris and always had the door open for him to be involved for Rory’s sake. Luke would be okay with it now because… Amy wants him to be despite his history with Anna? And Logan is a freaking adult, not a damn teenager. He can support his kid. He needs to know about his kid. I don’t understand how someone she dated for three years, who proposed to her, would not like to know. This is not a one night stand. Wouldn’t he find out anyway through the grapevine? But let’s be real, he’s never going to know or be involved because it goes with Amy’s plan, despite everything she’s written to the contrary. She wants her story. Hey, if Amy actually made it a happy ending I would be shocked. But I put it at 0.001%. You know what does bring me joy, though? That Lauren, Alexis, Kelly, Milo & Matt were all upset about Rory’s ending and to repeat Kelly’s words, “it was mean.” Matt (who also has a pilot) is too nice to say no to them so he’d probably make an effort to appear and man, that’s depressing to see where Logan would be.
Oh and let’s talk about this Life and Death Brigade business. These guys flew in from wherever the hell they were to take Rory out on the town because she was feeling upset. Something I found interesting – Rory has clearly kept in contact with them. She knows about Colin’s knee surgery. Again, Rory knows more what’s going on with her lover’s friends than her soon to be step-cousin Jess. She was putting more effort into keeping those relationships when it would have been so easy to get in contact with Jess. Then they have their big tearful goodbye where Rory is basically Mother Hen. So after all that, does ASP really think we’re to believe that pregnant Rory would just be ignored by these guys? That once they found out, one of them wouldn’t show up and be like “it’s Logans?” Remember, Colin and Finn helped Rory move out of her grandparents after she and Logan broke up. They are friends. So I don’t get it. Once again, there’s that disconnect between what ASP writes and what she wants to show.
So let’s talk about Amy’s grand plan. She and Dan said the father was going to be who was under contract at the time of the show’s ending. I’m also going to assume that it was going to be with whomever Rory recently broke up with. Someone on Reddit put together a list of each boyfriend and all their Chris comparisons (can’t copy it here), and it’s obvious now that’s what they were going for all along. And you know, after looking at that, the one I could believe that could fit that role best would have been Jess Season 3. Jess was so lost at that point and left without telling her, without a way for Rory to contact him. Rory going off on her own would have been believable. Dean, not really. Even if the relationship was doomed, Mr. Dean “I like the Donna Reed show type of life” would still be in contact with the kid. Let’s talk about Logan now.  Season 5 maybe? But Logan, the one that walked out on his family after the disastrous dinner, wouldn’t somehow be around for Rory? (And let’s remember Shira was pregnant, and that’s why Mitchum married her). Season 6 is baffling because they parted so in love and Rory is living in the apartment. She can’t hide the baby.  Season 7? (I know that’s not her season but come on) Lol, the dude wanted to marry her, Amy. So even if that was Amy’s plan all along, there’s that disconnect coming up again!
Well, I feel I’ve gone too far yet again tonight. This is a mess.  TL;DR: I won’t be watching it Revival Part 2: The Curse of the Netflix Sequel. Part of the magic of AYITL was that they were able to bring everyone back. This isn’t Arrested Development. There are too many power players with busy lives. Could it happen? Maybe. As for me (if they do this) - I’m going to finish up the stories I’ve started/have planned and say goodbye to this fandom. I feel like the revival ruined Rory for me. Melodramatic, sure, but it’s just so sad and heartbreaking. It’s like Emily and Lorelai got these wonderful arcs and Rory became like Walter White (bad analogy but I’m tired give me a break). Jess, Logan, and Paris got shitty endings, too.  There’s a lot of happiness I wish I’d see, but knowing Amy, god knows what she has planned. And frankly, I just don’t want to feel sick to my stomach again.

We watched the feature length Jake Paul docu-series finale so you don't have to
Tumblr media
"I want a whole cake after all this is over," Shane Dawson says when Jake Paul and his girlfriend Erika Costell stroll up to his house holding baby pink cake pops shortly before their last interview.
Honestly, us too, Shane.
Welcome to Inside the Mind of Jake Paul, the feature length finale to the docu-series that dove into the whirlwind of growing up on camera. The eighth episode clocks in at a whopping 1 hour and 45 minutes, but if you're a functional human being who doesn't have the time to invest in watching Shane unpack all of Jake's undiscussed trauma, don't worry about it: We watched every agonizing minute of it so that you don't have to.

You might want to sit down for this. There's a lot that went down in this finale.
Here's what Shane and Jake talked about in their one-on-one interview:
#Jerika
Despite rumors of a faked relationship for YouTube clicks, Jake and Erika seem to be a very real, very grounded couple. After two years of working with each other, one year of having a fling, and about four months of actually being in an official committed relationship, they both admit that they're good for each other, even with the baggage Jake still deals with from his disastrous love triangle between him, his ex-girlfriend, and his older brother.
"I have a lot of trust issues from that," Jake tells Shane. "Erika had to teach me how to love."
The Martinez Twins
Jake appears to have some sort of savior complex when it comes to the Ivan and Emilio Martinez, who left Team 10 in 2017. He says he personally scouted them from their hometown in Catalonia, Spain, taught them English, and mentored them in growing a social media following. Despite their claims of abuse and bullying, Jake says they were "just pranks" and that all of their videos were scripted.
"I love them as little brothers," he says. "It was more than me helping them get followers."
He won't take accountability for racist jokes and microaggressions against them, though, because "anything was a joke for us." But he did apologize in a 2017 response video.
His public image
Jake does acknowledge that his obnoxious persona is "cocky." For example, when he climbed the KTLA news van:
Jake also understands he's a controversial of a public figure.
"As the list of controversies piled up," he rants. "There just became this bandwagon of 'Fuck Jake Paul.' Every little thing you do from there on out just amplifies."
The original Team 10 house and its neighbors
According to former Team 10 COO Nick Crompton, a company employee tried to add the house's address to an event on Google. Instead, he accidentally published the address on Google Maps, inviting hordes of fans to swarm the social media incubator. Fellow West Hollywood residents were furious that their neighborhood had become a tourist attraction for screaming preteens, which led to the KTLA profile and helped introduce much of the world to Jake Paul.
"We tell fans not to come, we have our own security 24/7," Jake sighs. "I hated it too. I felt like a prisoner in my own house ... really the only situation was for us to leave, which we tried to do as fast as possible."
He also admits that the massive pool fire he and his roommates set in the backyard was a mistake.
"As I got more views and more money ... In the back of your head, you're like let's just keep on going," he says. "We'll do whatever we want for content. I would just act and not really care what the result was."
Constantly pushing merch to little kids
Jake is incredulous that his merch-peddling is harmful to his young views.
"Honestly I think it's really stupid that people think it's manipulative," he rants. "Just because my fans are younger, does that mean I'm manipulating them? I don't think a kid would actually believe that and be like, 'Wow, I'm not cool if I don't have this."
Shane attempts to call him out:
When Shane tells Jake that he has "a lot of power" and therefore "responsibility," he seems to reconsider. Barely.
"But I don't want to become so squeaky clean that it's not fun anymore," Jake complains.
His ex-girlfriend Alissa Violet and her affair with his brother Logan Paul
"I wasn't, at the time, mature enough to know how to be a boyfriend," Jake admits. He calls his on-again, off-again relationship with Alissa a "toxic situation" because they were not only dating, but they were also living together and working together.
He believes that she started her affair with his brother "out of spite," to "get revenge" for the way he treated her. When a friend sat him down and told him that she and Logan were sleeping together, he says he "stayed silent for three days."
"I was heartbroken, for many reasons," Jake says on the verge of tears. "Yes, in our fucked up relationship we did a lot of things to hurt each other, but that was like ... that was it for me. It was the most alone I've ever felt in my life."

According to Jake, he gave Alissa 30 days to move out of the Team 10 house and offered to pay for an Airbnb for her to stay in until she found her own place. When she refused to leave, he hired a moving truck — which is apparently when the viral Snapchats of her belongings in the foyer began making their rounds.
Explaining that he was "more disappointed" in Logan, Jake says he forgave his brother because if he let it "manipulate" his life, then he'd be "giving her what she wanted."
Assault allegations against Alissa's new boyfriend, Faze Banks
In response to his assistant's assault allegations against Faze Banks, Jake and Team 10 launched a feud against the other YouTuber
"Out of all the shit that I've done, I feel so stupid even talking about the situation now," Jake laments. "It was too real and too hostile."
Shane points out the culture of YouTubers trying to destroy each other, but says the situation with Faze Banks was "next level because it involves assault."
In a surprising gesture of maturity, Jake pulls out his phone and deletes the video from his channel.
Logan's suicide forest debacle
"It dramatically affected my business, just as much as it affected him, because people think we're the same," Jake says.
He says he lost two seven-figure brand deals because his name was so deeply tied to his brothers and admits that he didn't watch the video before it was posted. He also resents the fact that his reputation was destroyed because of his brother.
His creepy dad Greg Paul, and working with family
Jake is 21 years old, and seems to really need a parental figure in his life right now:
The future of his career
At the end of the video, Jake and Erika explain that they're finally going on vacation.
"I hate the drama now, it's so overplayed," Jake says while discussing the Alissa/Logan disaster. At the end of the finale, he admits that he just wants to "completely disconnect from social media."
"The last thing I need is another 'Why I left Team 10' video," he laughs.
So is he a sociopath? Probably not — and without a licensed therapist who specializes in working with people who have antisocial personality disorders, no one should make that claim. What he does appear to be, though, is a kid with too much money and a reputation that precedes him. But he looks forward to leaving his past behind and figuring out where his career is going.
"I made all these mistakes, I have all this knowledge now," Jake muses. "I made a name for myself, but it's like ... What am I gonna do with that? And to me, that's exciting."
But as we've come to know Jake Paul, we'll see if he actually does move on from the life of drama that he's created.

A month ago or so I said I would post my thoughts on the GG revival (and some other stuff) once my finals were done. But then I went home for the holidays, and my Internet access was not great. Here at last are the GG thoughts, though they're long and not well-organized and generally critical of the revival, if anyone's interested.
My feelings about the Gilmore Girls revival: all the Gilmores deserved better
Lorelai by far had the best arc for me in the revival. While I soured on Luke a while ago and found him frustrating throughout, Lorelai’s individual story was (excluding the conclusion) the best part. Since Richard and Sookie had outside reasons to not appear, the show made an excellent decision to focus on Michel and Lorelai’s relationship. While I haven’t always appreciated what Michel brings, I do now because the storyline brought out the best in both of them. It revealed Michel’s softer side for longer periods while focusing on Lorelai’s willingness to do whatever to keep him around (also the secret club scene with them both was fantastic).
I was immensely frustrated by the plot in which Richard left money to Luke to franchise and nothing for Lorelai’s career goals. I get that Richard wasn’t always progressive, and can even appreciate the callback to the season 5 Richard/Luke outing, but it was a complete disservice that he wouldn’t leave his daughter money to further her career. Richard mentioned in Bon Voyage how much credit Lorelai deserved for what she had built, and even before then spoke with praise about her inn. In Bon Voyage, Emily kept expressing a desire to build the Dragonfly a spa with Lorelai. Are you telling me that Richard wouldn’t have offered to finance that, or maybe he and Emily would decide to set aside the money for when Lorelai might be more open to it? I get that would have robbed the tension of Michel maybe leaving, or the Luke-Lorelai tension, or the beautiful parallel at the end asking for the loan- but there are other ways they could have achieved all that while giving Richard and Lorelai’s relationship its due. (As sweet as the mall story was, it was very nonsensical and even the outstanding acting couldn’t save it for me. Imagine though if Richard had financed an expansion at the Dragonfly and Emily was working there and she felt like Lorelai didn’t appreciate his gifts enough? But still she stayed working there.)
Also, setting aside the pain I get every time a show attempts therapy sessions, there was all this build up in the first episode to it and then it just fizzled? We didn’t get nearly enough Emily (let alone Emily-Lorelai) after it was done, and its conclusion made the whole storyline seem wasted. (Also… ew Luke. Don’t give Lorelai crap for going to therapy.) And then the therapist tries to be in the musical? Which… I didn’t mind some Bunheads cameos and the musical itself was fine, but (as I know many others have said) the musical was wasted time. They could have done Sutton as the director, Lorelai as the lead, and Lorelai keeps struggling with this one song at the end (the only poignant part of that storyline) until she realizes her emotional block with it. At least then the storyline includes Lorelai as a participant.
Meanwhile, the hiking thing was so bizarre. We did not need an extended Wild reference (or whatever the name is). It had some funny parts (book or movie), and I enjoyed the Parenthood cameos, but it felt so inauthentic. Why not have Lorelai go on a hotel road trip (with Michel maybe?), and even parallel it with Rory’s adventure in the episode before? It also parallels the running away from her marriage to Max, and makes it even more potent when she comes back. Or, she could go see Sookie (maybe not even realizing that’s where she’s heading at first) and ask why she left, and get closure on that. Then get a promise from Sookie that she’ll be at the wedding, or that she’ll come back soon (or she won’t). Same amount of scenes as we got with Sookie, a whole lot more substantive than the hiking.
Quick point: they completely underplayed the Lorelai/Paris relationship. When Luke asked just how close Lorelai and Paris were and Lorelai was dumbfounded by Paris’ kindness to her, it was so bizarre. Lorelai and Paris’ interactions used to be phenomenal. I will say, at least they gave us some more Paris/Rory/Lane- Rory with both her best friends is premium content. And Paris’ job was perfect.
Then there’s Rory’s storyline. One, if you’re going to tease Tristan, then just pay CMM the money to make a split-second appearance. Otherwise don’t mention him. Just the running into Francie would have been effective to send Paris into a meltdown, or showing me some dang Madeleine and Louise. OR BRAD! But about her actual career:
In the beginning of season 2, Rory wrote an article that according to the Chilton paper faculty advisor made the parking lot repavement eventful. It’s one thing to talk about Rory having a hard time finding jobs, and another to talk about writer’s block, but it’s something entirely different to tell me Rory can’t find any angle about lines in New York City. It would have actually been more effective to have Rory write something, submit it, and then be told it wasn’t the right direction for the paper, and she could meltdown after that if need be. I get why she didn’t want to do the memoir with the batty Brit in the end. While I don’t see why she feasibly wouldn’t do any research into the fledgling Huff-Po rip-off, I can see her going in there and being confused when she’s expected to pitch a position after they were chasing her. With teaching, I know other people have said that she acted like it was beneath her. That wasn’t my interpretation- she finished school and even if that’s where she’s always excelled that doesn’t mean she wants to go back for the Masters she would need. We don’t know if continuing school’s a good financial situation for her (would Chris pay? Emily? would Rory still be comfortable asking?) and Rory probably decided teaching wasn’t for her a long time ago (just because she liked school doesn’t mean she likes kids in high-school- Not as Cute as Pushkin comes to mind). Also, it would probably feel like failure to her, not because teaching is somehow lesser but because it would mean she couldn’t hack it as a journalist in her own mind.
I was hoping she would stick with the Stars Hollow Gazette, and make it ‘great’ again (sorry for the organization of this sentence). Or if not that, maybe it could get her noticed- she could get a book deal about this small town and telling people about it (rather than a memoir her mom resents). I have… iffy feelings about stories within stories. In many of my favorite pieces of fiction (Glee and Gossip Girl and Queer as Folk, amongst others), the “writer” in the group eventually creates a self-reflective piece. Last fall, I started watching Jane the Virgin. Spoiler alert, but Jane decides to write a book about her grandma (which her grandmother is initially against). But Jane is a romance novelist, who is going to fictionalize the romance of her grandmother and grandfather, and their immigration story, to play to her own skills as a writer. Instead of Rory focusing on just her family, she could have done character pieces and interviews with the many denizens of Stars Hollow. After the Life and Death Brigade in the third episode, I was thinking she could expand on her Yale piece in some way- fictionalized or documenting elite social organizations in Connecticut or on college campuses. Rory has so many other unique interests (she could have done travel-journal too, since she’s jetting back and forth between London, or a giant ‘pop culture references as taught to me by my mother’ guide) and I wish the story had been about her telling those rather than the story we already know- be more creative and trust the audience!
I love Logan and I love Rory and I love them together but I don’t have very many thoughts on the romantic storylines, even the baby. Except, Rory should have broken up with Paul at the end of the first episode. If they wanted to drag out the damn thing, it would have been funny if they showed her breaking it off but she kept thinking she hadn’t. Otherwise, that whole thing was just too mean.
Also, Rory-Emily did not have nearly enough together this time around. I realize Rory was doing a lot of travelling and it was maybe hard for her to see Emily, but it was disappointing. Emily on the whole was disconnected with her family and aside from the one phone call where (best part of Rory’s stuff) Rory got into Richard’s study, it was especially evident with those two. (Also, finally some Rory-Richard content!)
Then, Emily as an individual. I know a lot of people loved her parts and think she’s the one the writers did the most justice by. I disagree. Emily spent years having to justify that her life was valid and fulfilling to Richard and Lorelai both, and then the writers had her act like it wasn’t at all. I understand that part of her justification in her life was that it furthered Richard’s business, and that even without that, Richard’s death could have just resulted in the reorganization of priorities that we saw. But we didn’t need her to find a lover or see her burn all her high-society bridges when it happened. She could have moved into a fancy apartment or townhouse in Hartford, hired a permanent maid whose life she was overly-invested in, and struggled finding a new place in society as a widow but ultimately figured it out. I loved that she decided to work at that museum, and it was fun, but imagine if she had done an art museum or history museum in Hartford? She took pride in being Emily Gilmore, dangit. In fact, back to the maid, remember how Lorelai always said Emily stifled her? What if Emily hired a girl remarkably like young Lorelai and Lorelai felt like Emily was trying to substitute her with this girl in light of her realized mortality? That’s a more genuine conflict than Lorelai gaffing at Richard’s funeral.
I didn’t hate it, but the four episodes felt silly and struggled to fill the arcs with meaningful content. I would much prefer an 8 or 10- episode season (with 45-60 min running times). I was disappointed with the majority of AYITL, but perhaps my expectations were too high. At least I got quality Logan-Rory content, and quality Lorelai-Michel and Paris.
