This morning I woke up with tummy troubles. I still went through with shaving my legs/face so that I can be super groomed for tomorrow's haircut. A decent amount of time was spent in the bathroom this morning, probably on account of the pizza and ramen I ate yesterday combined with some drinking. All I could eat for breakfast was a soup in the box.

I started work late and skipped warmups. I just worked on the current commission today. After work I did half my usual treadmill workout which was fine considering how little I'd eaten and how I still felt. I read the chapter on Acceptance in my ACT book again while walking. I took some time to bake myself in the shower and watch a little youtube. For lunch I made stew but I didn't brown it enough and added too many potatoes/water so it came out kinda bland and in large quantity but I ate it all anyways. I was SUPER full. The coke I had after hit hard because I really just needed water. I hung out in Bramble's server during work but wasn't really in a big social mood. I'm still glad I hung out there even if I wasn't really clicking with anyone at that moment. I left after doing today's request, working on a pic of Adora for an hour, and doing a little bit of Plaz's world. I updated him letting him know it is still happening just very slowly.

I took some time to just chill after work. I watching a very fascinating Cities Skylines 2 detailing video and then tried meditating on defusion for a little bit. I was doing the leaves on a stream exercise while laying my head in my arms and listening to water ambience. I was realizing the traditional version of the exercise where the leaves float downstream give me the impression that I'm meant to be getting rid of thoughts by putting them in the river. But defusion is never about deleting thoughts, its about seeing them as just thoughts. So I did a slightly different version where I imagined myself on a bridge above a still pond with every thought I had being represented by a leaf falling into the water but otherwise staying there. I gotta say I wasn't very successful in defusion "clicking" with me today but I knew it helped to try anyways.

I joined Daisy in Just Dance and SLAYED today. I did much better than usual and maybe it's because I was moreso having fun letting my motions be fluid rather than trying too hard to copy the moves and compensate for mistakes. Also changed my profile to a DOG but I might put it back to Hoss Delgado.

After her shower she read me a Monster High chapter in bed. I made another custom Connections puzzle for her to solve today thinking it was good but it was actually too hard for her. I think the terms I used were too generic to pinpoint any right off the bat which is usually a trait of a good puzzle. She did really well with today's actual connections and wordle though. Then I played a good amount of Kingdom Hearts 2 for her and did the whole Traverse Town tournament bit.

Today I was meant to be thinking about the topic of acceptance again. It's weird because the whole chapter covers specific kinds of trauma that I don't identify with but someone I know does. It makes me wish I could somehow use this knowledge and the understanding I do have to help out somehow. Not that I'm out here trying to magically fix something so complicated but I think I understand some of the topic and thats a good thing. Other than that, I think I did a decent job keeping myself on track today and accepting tonight for what it was. I understand that I can tend to reject good times simply because they make me think of the potential abandonment that will seemingly nullify it all. While that could happen, nothing would be "null" if it did. And it's much better and more helpful to be hopeful that everything will turn out okay in the end. I know it's not smart to be blinded by positivity but I do need to push myself from having a negative view of things to at least neutral. It'll help me appreciate the good things in my life while they're happening more often. It'll build me up.

God I relate to you SO much right now. Everyone's talking about Ozzie and Fizzo and just, skimming past the fact that Blitz and him have a deep and personal history together? I want to know that! I want to know why they hate each other! Can they reconcile? Is it too late? HOW MUCH DID AND STILL MEAN TO EACH OTHERRRR

Same! And I want to know if the mark on their foreheads is just a mark of a lust-ring imp, a brand (since I get the feeling, it being hell, there could absolutely be a case of imps being owned by higher demons...) or if it means they're related (seriously hoping they're not, since Blitz said some very sus things about/to RoboFizz, and I'm sorry but as someone with 3 siblings-

THIS is NOT a way you pose with family for a picture/selfie. Like, I have only posed like this for pictures with an extremely close friend (you know, the kind where you're close enough to joke-flirt) OR with my ex-fiancee. But that's neither here nor there. But also I would like to take a moment to fucking CRY about this pic because FIZZ' OUTFIT IS SO??? COOL??? He gave up being able to dress like that to be a clown and wear nothing but a jester suit im actually so sad that is tragic bby why you looked so good in that outfit and y'all were so happy with y'all's easy-going smiles but now y'all just grin all the time hhhh-)

I digress.

Anyway!! Since we know the white spots on the imps are basically imp-type scarring, I wonder if Fizz's face isn't actually painted white but if it's just imp-scarring instead- meaning Fizz got into an absolutely horrific accident at some point. I wonder if Blitz was also in that accident and that's how he got HIS scars? Did this accident contribute to the deterioration of their relationship? Was it a catalyst? Did they blame each other?

And since there's so much debate on whether or not Fizz is an imp (when he very clearly is...) I wonder if in-universe no one knows Fizz is an imp? It's hinted that Blitz' mom is dead, his sister is supposedly in rehab (assuming that wasn't Verosika just trying to get under his skin) and if Blitz and his family were among the only people who were close to Fizz as kids/teens, then Blitz and Ozzie might be the only ones left who know he's really an imp, the lowest form of hellborn on the demon hierarchy. Like, he'd probably be a lot less famous if people knew he was an imp, right? So if he was trying to hide it now... that would mean despite everything, despite how much Blitz seems to hate Fizz (though the pictures insinuate he still cares, if he's kept them this long), he's still kept Fizz' secret. Like, it's obvious why Ozzie would keep it secret (you know, literally he just criticized Stolas' relationship with an imp so he looks down on it clearly, the hypocrite) but Blitz?

But anyway!! I'm really hoping Blitz gets to reconcile with both Fizz and Verosika, since it seems like they had been genuinely caring relationships at one point. If I had to take a guess, I'd bet that something's gonna happen to Blitz and it's gonna be up to Blitz' new friends (Millie, Moxxie, Loona and Stolas) and his old friends (Verosika and Fizz) to save him. I seriously hope for reconciliation... but I fear what it might cost...

Berlin long-post

Guys, this will be a very long post. VERY. Perhaps it will be something like an essay.

For the first time in many years, I can clearly say what level I like in the game (I can just as clearly name my favorite location only in the first season). Yes, I want to talk about Berlin (are there people who were left indifferent to the level?). I just want to express my thoughts, which came to my mind during the walkthrough. This is partly an attempt to piece together a puzzle of information about the characters (47, Grey, Olivia, Diana), which is diluted with screenshots. I would be glad if you read it and express your opinion. Maybe you will correct me or, on the contrary, supplement my words, because the stream of thoughts can take me completely in the wrong place.

Spoiler territory begins, so be careful. Well, in general, everything is the same as always: if you are too lazy to read, you can look at dicks pics, they are pretty good (I think).

For me, Berlin is Hieronymus Bosch in its purest form. The level is disgusting inside and out (and I say this in a positive way). This include the oppressive atmosphere of emptiness, the behavior of agents, dialogues, the very environment of the club. It's all so nauseous, so... unnecessary. But it attracts. Bosch. Bosch in its purest form. This captivates me. This is the dirt you want to plunge into.

We begin the level in a ringing void, in which the beating of the heart is heard like a bell. I still haven't decided for myself whether it's a heart beating of 47 or not, but MY heart seemed to be beating in unison with it. And as soon as the club appears on the horizon, the beat of the heart flows into a musical beat. It's great. I don't know about you, but I'm delighted.

During the first walkthrough I immediately wondered: who killed this poor fellow? And now it seems to me that it was Olivia. Especially when you consider that the corpse is close to the gas station and in the phone conversation she, shivering, reports that she SEEMS to have killed one of the agents. Why ''SEEMS''? Because, obviously, the injury was non-lethal. We can ''read'' it on the corpse: the knife is stuck in the left shoulder. Sloppy, as if in a rush /chase. The injury is not lethal, but the guy had a hard time. Perhaps he died of blood loss much later.

I was obsessed with an idea that we need to find targets ourselves. Previously Diana did it for us, but "she can't help us now". First, I was confused. But later my mood was like ''HOW COOL IT IS''. I don't know why some ppl consider ICA agents as not remarkable. Guys, c'mon, I didn't even immediately realize that there are more than 5 of them, and they are all different! Each has its own position, undercover role, manner of speech. The agents are amazingly described, and for me they stand in the same rate with Tamara Vidal now (an insanely smart and interesting woman).

Have you ever seen Montgomery??? It's just FDIFSDJFKJFDKFLDKFLJSL. Such a DICK. Too bad 47 just kicked the table. It could be a way better if 47 low the table on agent's head and jump on the top of it. Smth like a control shot jump. Such a disgusting character... I hope that he just compensates his small penis with his speeches, because I just wanted to break his face for what he'd say.

I think you've already understand what exactly pissed me off in his speech. Yeah, the mention of Grey.

Aaaaand let's smoothly move on to this. Now I want to step back a little from the discussion of Berlin itself and say something to everyone who had a hard time going through the scene after Dartmoor. Yes, Lucas was my light, my sunshine and my motivation to play over the past years. Yes, his death was a shock (such a shock that I said "fuck" and turned off the game after 47 appears near the gas station). But I do not like being sad for a long time. Like... SAD.

Listen. Listen. It would be bad if after death the character disappeared from everywhere forever. THAT would be crap. It would be bad if there was not a single mention of him in the game after his death. But... Berlin, Mendoza, that fcking train. We learn A LOT of information about Grey here, which complements his portrait. C'mon! Chechnya, guard's and agent's whispering. Yes, damn it, they are afraid of him. If 47 is a legend, almost a myth, then Grey seems to be the real incarnation of the devil for them. I repeat, they are afraid of him. Otherwise I don’t know why a huge well-armed group was send to capture him (which walks on the train in sapper armor). I just listened to all these dialogues with a malicious smile and was like hehehe dats mah boiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

After all, the character is still in the fandom, the fandom has no end, everyone in it is alive and happy. So, Lucas, lie down, do not twitch, and I will bring hydrogen peroxide and a first aid kit.

If you don't call me the best psychologist after that, just don't talk to me ever again.There is so much shit in life, no need to be sad in such a good fandom. Just DON'T.

Let's return to Berlin. Or rather to Rolf, the owner of the club. From the dialogues we understand that he knew Grey for a long time. At first I even thought that it was Rolf who gave 47 and Grey motorcycles. These ones:

But then I quickly realized that I had problems with geography, and there was simply no point in bringing bikes from Germany to England. By the way, an interesting point: in my mind bike doesn't fit 47. Any expensive and stylish car - yes. Lucas is the opposite. The bike fits him, but the car is not.

I don't know what kind of "business" they had there. But if you consider that Grey already had experience working with the Delgado's drug cartel (and Rolf, for a moment, has a cocaine warehouse in a club), this "business" could be is somewhat similar to a mutually beneficial partnership with Rico.

And the very dialogue between Montgomery and Rolf hints us what could have happened if the one man didn't die, you know. And that's cool too. "To help him and two friends out to... well, slip away". As I understand it, this is about the so-called "Team Grey" (Lucas, 47, Olivia). And after Dartmoor everyone was supposed to meet in the safehouse in Berlin. It was an ideal plan, if the Constant hadn't found Diana and Grey. The only question is what would they do next. Planning to capture Edwards again, based on the dossier we've took from Carlisle?

Hell, I love IO because they leave a huge part of the plot just in the dialogues, which makes the game extremely replayable. And every time you pass a level you just oh. OH! This allows players make their own guesses and put the puzzle together. Not to mention the little things that are just scattered around the location. At first I THOUGHT I saw Florida Man. Then I realized that it is not my imagination. This guy is generally the best flexer:

I will end the essay with a comparison of 47 and the club logo. 

I love that the mission is called "Apex Predator" and the bikers' emblem bears Fenrir, an alpha predator from north myths that devours the sun. It is he who begins Ragnarok - the end of the world. It seems to me that this is a direct allegory to 47. It is in Berlin that his bloody procession begins, which puts an end to this story. But damn it, how nice to watch this end of the world.

Considering I have written a lot of angst, this was really hard. But if I have to choose one, I’d say a Sleepy Hollow-fic called Hell.

Crow’s Feet On the Prettiest Eyes (Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Smith/The Doctor) or The Black King (The Queen’s Gambit, Beth/Borgov)m which both are about lovers who are reunited after many years apart.

Not really  I’ve borrowed a character from Pan Am for a The Queen’s Gambit fic, but that wasn’t much of a crossover, really. And I have one Piranesi/Chronicles of Narnia crossover, but that one isn’t particularly crazy either, given how many Narnia-references Piranesy contains.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes. A couple of years ago a person read some of my explicit, and very well-tagged fics only to give me several comments on how disgusting the found explicit fics in general, and the tags i used in particular. Personally I would say that the easiest way to not be disgusted by that would be to NOT READ THOSE FICS!

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do. Quite a lot, actually. Mostly F/M, but sometimes also threesomes. As for kind of sex it ranges from fluffy vanilla to BDSM.

Not that I know of.

Yes.

No, though one I’m currently writing is certainly co-conceived.

I honestly can’t say; I have so many. My current favourite shup is Beth Harmon/Vasily Borgov from The Queen’s Gambit. Before that I burned for Fabien Marchal/Sophie de Clermont from the TV show Versailles. No, wait, my favourite ship must be the OT3 Rick/Evy/Ardeth from The Mummy series, as that ship precedes the other, and is still around.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I currently have 5 WIPs posted on AO3  3 of them I’m writing actively on and plan to finish in the foreseeable future. Then I have two WIPs that’s over 10 years old. An extremely dark Sleepy Hollow-fic about Lady Van Tassel, and one humorous Harry Potter-fic about Dudley Dursley. I like them both, and have the plot properly mapped out, but I have yet to find it in me to finish them. I would still like to do that, though! However, I have one Peter Pan fic that I actually removed from AO3 because not only is it a 15 year old WIP, I have also completely forgotten how I wanted it to end. That one I doubt I will ever touch again.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Emotions. I’m good with emotions, and nowadays I think my dialogue flows quite well too. I’ve been told I write good sex scenes too.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Plots! Most of my fics are one-shots with few characters, mainly dealing with emotions. I used to be very bad at being descriptive, but I’m actively working on improving that. I can be brief to a fault, too.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

So far it’s something I have glossed over in the few cases it has been somewhat relevant for the fic. If I did, however, I would probably write the foreign language in italicized English. Unless it was a language no one else in the fic underwood- then I would write it in the original language.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Peter Pan, back in 2004, after seeing a promo pic of Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook.

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Another one of those impossible questions. How can I choose. I’m sorry, It has to be my favourite fics, in plural.

A Place in the Shadows (Penny Dreadful, Vanessa Ives & Sembene), because it turned out exactly as I envisioned it. And I really like the themes of friendship, and cake.

Professor Keller (Doctor Who, Delgado!Master) because it’s my most ambitious fic to date- I even rewrote it completely. I really think I managed the escalating horror of two completely normal people getting their lives destroyed by the Master.

Homeward (The Borgias, Cesare/Micheletto, Lucrezia & Micheletto). I’m not sure why, but I just really, really like this one, and it’s one of my fics that I reread regularly.

A Conversation in the Yellow Drawing-Room, And Other Letters To Mrs Strange (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell, Lady Pole/John Childermass). In most of my fics the female protagonist saves herself, and this is probably the prime example. I really enjoyed writing Lady Pole making her life the way she wants it for a change, and, ultimately, saving herself, with a little help from her friends.  I also really enjoyed making use of a few fairy tales tropes.

Brody Jenner Is Already Seeing Someone New Betches

Divorce is tough, or so I’ve heard, but apparently when you’re a celebrity, you don’t have too much trouble bouncing back. It’s only been a couple weeks since the news broke that Brody Jenner and his wife Kaitlynn Carter are splitting up, but they’re both wasting no time seeing who else is out there. While Kaitlynn has been busy having a Hot Girl Summer moment in Italy with Miley Cyrus, her ex Brody is apparently also moving on with someone new. Hello, yes, I officially have whiplash.

According to TMZ, Brody has been spending a lot of time lately with Josie Canseco, a 22-year-old model who is the daughter of former baseball player Jose Canseco. Jose Canseco is most famous for doing a sh*tload of steroids, but if you DGAF about sports, you might remember him for spreading rumors about A-Rod cheating on Jennifer Lopez with his ex-wife Jessica. Basically, he’s a messy bitch who lives for drama. But back to Josie.

TMZ spoke to “sources familiar with the new pair,” who said that Brody and Josie “seem like a good match for now,” which sounds like a thinly-veiled way of saying “the sex is great but they’re not going to last.” This is unsurprising for a couple of reasons. First, Brody Jenner is just getting out of a marriage in which he seemed pretty miserable, so I’m not sure why he would want to commit to someone else so soon. Also, he’s 35 years old, which makes Josie Canseco 13 years younger than him. I’m not here to age shame, but I feel like Brody’s ideal type shouldn’t be someone who wasn’t legal to drink until last year when he could easily be her dad.

According to the TMZ sources, Brody and Josie met while he was on the press tour for The Hills: New Beginnings, and they were reportedly introduced by Frankie Delgado and Brandon Lee. This would make sense, because Brandon Lee is 23, so he and Josie probably knew each other from their days of using fake IDs to get into bars two whole years ago. Honestly, one of the weirdest things about the new Hills is the age difference between Brandon and everyone else, but it feels like the other guys in the group like hanging out with him to feel younger. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Brody wants to date someone younger, and Josie Canseco is also like, very hot. Josie probably sees hanging out with Brody as a way to gain some clout, and he’s also still a regulation hottie too. I doubt these two are in it for the long haul, but who really cares at this point?

So let’s do a quick rundown of what’s going on with everyone involved. Brody and Kaitlynn split up, and now Brody is hanging out with Josie. Kaitlynn is hanging out with Miley, who just split up with Liam, who posted an emo sunset pic on Instagram and now I’m low-key concerned. I’m really trying to keep this all straight in my head, but it’s barely even worth it at this point. We’ll see if Josie and Brody pop up on each other’s Instagrams anytime soon, but I have a feeling that this is more of a “hanging and banging” type of situation than an Instagram official thing. Only time will tell!

Building A Gaming PC For Absolute N00bs In 2019

Being a Software Engineer, I have always known all there is to know about software, UI, OS tweaks, and all that fun stuff. I only worried about hardware when it came to minimum requirements to run games or other tools.

Until recently, when I realized playing on my Xbox One is not good for FPS games, especially that I developed an affinity for Apex Legends and was almost not too bad at it.

I needed a gaming PC.

Gaming laptops are out of the question, too expensive, and the good ones are too heavy to even carry around, plus I won’t really need to carry mine around since I only play at home.

I needed to build a desktop gaming PC. Which I did!

The idea behind the name was that this would be a badass gaming PC despite its being not much of a looker, like Saitama is. I ended up adding LED strips and RAM heat sinks, as well as a custom backplate for the GPU so I guess I kind of defeated the purpose of the name there.

Where did I start? I didn’t even know the budget I would need to allocate or the pieces to buy or even how to match specs and check compatibility of hardware.

Start Here: The Parts, And How to Build A PC Once You Have Them?

A great resource to answer this question was to simply look at youtube videos of people doing an “end to end gaming pc build”. Inevitably, you end up with beginner guides that are pretty extensive about what each part is, and how to correctly install it. I would recommend this particular video for that purpose:

Next Step: Which Parts To Choose?

For this one I have a more original recipe.

First of all, decide on your budget: how much money are you willing to spend? It is common these days that anything around 500$ US / 500€ EU could be enough to have a decent gaming PC that can run all the new games, albeit with different framerates depending on the graphics card you choose.

In-game framerate is an important metric, because it is like your bottom line as a gamer: the higher it is, the smoother your gaming experience is. It is expressed in FPS (Frames Per Second), or how many images your PC can render in one second.

Next, start looking at builds recommended for that budget: again here, some key phrases I recommend for a quick youtube search would be “<your budget here><$ or €> gaming pc build”, example: “500$ gaming pc build”. Joey Delgado has a great channel that offers these kinds of videos in a very nice format, so I recommend you check it out. This is such a typical gaming pc build title that soon you will drown in these videos, kind of like I did. But that’s a good thing, because they each show different aspects: the target performance aspects (gaming vs video editing vs 3D design etc.), the different tradeoffs (noise, budget, good FPS, fast loading times, etc.). You will also notice, the budgets can go from 500$ to 3000$ and more!

At this point, you’re ready to create a parts list. The best website to do so is hands down PC Part Picker.

This is a website that allows you to create builds and checks hardware compatibility issues for you! which is a great plus for an absolute hardware n00b. While you’re building your part list, you also get suggestions on the cheapest place to buy them, build guides, builds of other users in the community, etc. To make informed decisions about the specs of the hardware you buy, I recommend taking a look at videos like the one below, which explain what to look for in the specs of a PC part you’re planning to buy:

Once you have a nice list, where:

Wattage provided by your power supply is safely above the total of your parts’ consumption number (also think about if you want to improve this build in the future, a scenario where you might require even more power)

Components are compatible (be careful about the fact that PC Part Picker does not provide that information for geometric clearances. I personally recommend buying a huge case for the first build, which is the most flexible and easiest way to do a build that you can extend later)

Order your components, and you can now get building!

(funny story, this build was for my birthday, I got all components on time except I forgot to order my 1TB SSD, which made me very mad that I won’t have my PC ready that night. I ordered it - just an ssd drive - on Amazon Prime Now)

Build Night

You will need:

A clean large enough surface

A 2 Philips screwdriver

Some zip ties to manage your cables cleanly, sometimes these are delivered with your case

A mental readiness to rtfm

Make sure you try to optimize your cable management. As a n00b myself I did an okay job, although less than three weeks later I am considering redoing the whole thing again.

Extras, Looks And Modding

If you are like me and would like your PC to look fly, you can do some extra work to make it look nice.

Install LED strips, heat sinks and fans: of course the best approach would be to buy components pre-equipped with this feature although it is not the best idea from a cost point of view

Color matching: if you play it right, your PC case will match nicely with your components from a color point of view. Of course you can always fix this later but it is better to choose components with color matching in mind where a choice is possible initially.

Figurines? Figurines! You can install these inside the case to give it extra swag, especially if it matches the LED colors/case colors. A good example of this is a video I really like from Joey Delgado here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98ujnl1_hW0

In case you have an ugly GPU (from the back side) you can get a custom GPU backplate for relatively good prices, other swag elements are available such as GPU support brackets which prevent gravity from making your GPU “saggy” (ew). It goes without saying I recommend ColdZero since I used their stuff and I found it excellent!

Done! Start Regretting Choices And Thinking About Upgrades

This is kind of inevitable, at least from my experience. Once you get a taste, you won’t be able to stop, and you’ll be thinking of improvements all the time. Congrats, you got a new hobby!

“You’re awfully quiet. Are you sure you’re okay?” Jules asked as the sign for the hospital came into view. He nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m fine, just thinking.” Turning to see how she was reacting to the situation, Ando decided to be honest with her, or at least marginally. “I lost my fiancée in a boating accident. She fell overboard, hitting her head. I held her while she…anyway, I don’t think this little scratch is going to do me in.” He touched the bandage, his fingers came away with a red stain. “I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine losing someone you love like that.” She pressed trembling lips together. Ando saw her eyes glitter with tears. Holy shit, this woman who didn’t know him or anything about his past was ready to cry for his loss. Without thinking he put his hand on her thigh. “It was a long time ago.” No longer did his heart squeeze at the words. No longer did he want to go back to the past and shake Melanie, demanding answers. No, only a sense of grief for the loss of life, hers and the child even though it wasn’t his, hit him. Jules swallowed audibly. “I’m still sorry. Losing a loved one, no matter how long ago, hurts.” He wondered who she’d lost and if it was a lover. His thoughts were cut off as she pulled into the ER entrance. “I can drop you at the doors and park, or park and we can go in together?” she asked. Realizing his hand was still on her thigh, he pulled back. “Park and we’ll walk in together. I’m not an invalid even though I seem to be bleeding like a stuck pig.” She laughed, easing the tension. “You really are, aren’t you?” They found a spot in the front as another vehicle pulled out. “Eureka,” Jules said while they waited for the SUV to move. “This must be our lucky night.” She then looked at his bloody bandage, then grimaced. “Or not,” she corrected. “Come on, woman, let’s get me stitched up so I don’t need to get a transfusion,” he joked, or at least hoped he wouldn’t need one. Hell, he honestly had no clue if he’d lost enough blood to need one. “Nah, you won’t need one of those. It only seems like you’ve lost a shitton of the stuff.” She reached for the door handle. “You ready?” “You bet. Let’s get this over with. I might need to hold your hand when they stitch me up.” He grinned. Hopping down she met him in the front of the pickup, engaging the alarm with a press of the keyfob. “I highly doubt that, but I’ll stick by your side just in case you pass out.” Ando couldn’t believe how easy it was to talk and joke with Jules, a woman he’d just met. Although it could be the knock to his head. However, he doubted that had anything to do with it. The emergency room was bustling with activity. Jules seemed to know several of the workers and was immediately recognized. If they’d been in Miami, he’d have been whisked back to a private area in minutes. Now, he sat in a chair filling out paperwork while the woman who’d brought him in chatted with a man who looked old enough to be her damn uncle, or dad, and Ando didn’t like it one damn bit. He finished the last of the paperwork, then got up to turn it into the nurse at the front. She glanced up, smiled then he was taken back to a small room marked triage made up of glass enclosures. Jules was still locked in a conversation with the older man and another had joined them. So much for her sticking next to him. “Your blood pressure is a little high,” the nurse said making notes. Taking a deep breath, he looked away from Jules and the spectacle she was making. He smiled at the middle-aged nurse wearing the red scrubs, thinking it was a truly poor choice in color choice. “Sorry, try it again. I was a bit nervous.” He steadied his breathing and thought of nothing in particular. “Much better.” She made the correction, then led him into another room down the hall after getting all his vitals. “Alright, the ER Doc will be with you shortly. I’d offer you something to drink, but just in case you need surgery, which I don’t think you will, we can’t just yet.” She winked. “Now, if you need anything just press this here button. My name is Louise.” The woman left as quickly as she ushered him in. He looked at the bed and the lone chair in the small cubicle they called a room, then decided the bed looked like the best option since he’d have to sit there when the doctor came in anyway. Pulling his cellphone out of his pocket, he decided to text his sister a pic of himself with the wound. If nothing else, she’d get a kick out of his predicament. Gia’s immediate response brought a smile to his lips. Only a sister would tell her brother it was an improvement to his regular ugly mug, followed by a ‘how you doin’ meme. He let her know he was fine, and would update on the number of stiches afterwards. Of course, she wants all the details, which he’d gloss over as best he could when he got home. The sound of the curtain being pulled open had him looking up from his phone to find Jules there. “Hey there,” Jules said. **** Jules tried to paste on a happy appearance, but being waylaid by one of the officers who’d worked the night she’d saved Marietta brought her mood south. To top it off, she then had to deal with Sean, a guy she’d dated off and on, more off than on asking her about Ando and her. Jeez, couldn’t a girl catch a break from all the drama? “Hey,” Ando said. If artic glare could describe the way his dark eyes stared at her, then that was what he gave her. “Sorry I left you earlier. That was one of the cops who was on duty on a case I was involved in. He was giving me an update on it.” She shut her mouth when he narrowed his eyes. “I thought you were an EMT?” In for a penny and all that she thought. “I am, but sometimes life brings you into situations out of your control. I was walking along the beach one night and stumbled upon a scene straight out of a nightmare. Suffice it to say, I inadvertently saved a young woman’s life.” When Ando opened his mouth to ask more questions she was sure, the curtain was pulled back, saving her from having to answer and relive the horrifying night again. “Good evening, Mr. Delgado. What do we have here?” Jules stood to the side while a man in scrubs came in, his name tag said his name was Dr. Torres. “Evening, Dr. Torres. I fell off the end of the boat dock and hit my head.” Ando indicated his head. Dr. Torres went through some routine questions and tests, then pulled the bandage away. “Looks like someone cleaned you up pretty good,” he stated. “Jules here is an EMT with Dallas Fire and Rescue.” Ando’s gaze landed on her. If she didn’t know better she’d swear he sounded proud of her. “I cleaned it out and made sure there wasn’t any foreign bodies in the wound, then got him here as quickly as safety allowed.” “You did a good job. Head wounds tend to bleed like a sieve. Let’s get you stitched up and out of here quickly, son.” She met Ando’s eyes as Dr. Torres and the nurse set up the instruments needed. “You doing okay?” Ando nodded. “Yeah, I can handle it. You gonna hold my hand?” Her breath stalled in her throat. “Sure.” The word came out breathlessly. “Alright, Suzy is going to clean it up a bit more just to make sure it’s one hundred percent clean. Not that I don’t trust your abilities, young lady, but we don’t want to have anything foreign inside there when we seal him up. I’d say you’ll have about five stitches.” Dr. Torres took off his gloves and made some notes while the nurse named Suzy came forward. “This is definitely going to hurt a little.” Her dark brown hair was pulled back in a low ponytail, true regret rang through in her tone. Ando held his hand out toward Jules. Without hesitation she took it, entwining their fingers. “I’ll hold still, just work quickly.”
