Barong - Day 25

I'd like to start this daily demon spotlight with an admittance of bias. Barong is my favorite demon in the series, bar none. In celebration of making it to 25 (!!) days of this series, I've decided to let the holy cat out of the bag. Barong is the demon that introduced me to Balinese mythology, has saved my hide several times throughout the series, and has an adorable and unique design to boot. He stands right next to, if not above Black Frost and Chernobog in my book. Past that, though, I would also like to say- thank you all for sticking with me for 25 days! It's been so damn fun, and I plan on continuing this series for months, if not years to come. I know it's a little early for the ivories, but the small community that has been built up over time has given me so much life and energy!

With that sappy stuff out of the way...

Today's demon of the day lies in the form of the great panther, protector of mankind, and host of all things good, Barong. Bali mythology is surprisingly easy to look through, having solid roots and foundations, as well as its origin being in a somewhat small subset of Indonesia, though this isn't to say it's not complex. Balinese mythology takes a unique form, one similar to the worship of Ame-no-Uzume, wherein several of its stories aren't plays nor grand tales, but rather, fascinatingly hypnotic dances. Barong's appearance in these dances is that of a glamorously decorated (and very ambiguous) animal that I would personally say looks somewhat, vaguely similar to a lion?

However, the type of animal it is isn't that important, and admittedly just makes me confused. What is important is Barong's role in Balinese mythology, that being of a protector of humanity itself- in the mythos surrounding Barong and its eternal rival Rangda, Barong represents good health, good fortune, and has reign over all the spirits that inhabit the small province. The most prominent myth featuring the great avatar is recanted in the famous Kris dance, a dance representing Barong battling with Rangda. During the hypnotic trawl, dancers bring swords dangerously close to hurting themselves, though they emerge unscathed, watched over by two dancers in an ornate harness holding up the avatar of Barong who dances furiously behind them.

The dance begins with two monkeys and Barong engaging in dance, though quickly escalates as witches sent by Rangda attack the frolicking group. The dance-drama escalates from there as Barong tries to reign back control over the kingdom, which had found itself under siege by Rangda, eventually leading to the most iconic scene of the play, wherein two palace guards stab themselves with kali daggers in a desperate trance under Rangda's control- though they emerge unscathed as Barong comes to the rescue and engages in battle with the witch, protecting the guards with his holy magic. After a long and fraught dance between Barong and its rival, eventually, the holy avatar emerges victorious, and the kingdom is returned to peace and prosperity.

Barong is not just an artefact of the dance, though- he's an important figure in Balinese tradition, one held in reverence and good spirits, and the dance is simply held to represent the eternal struggle between good and evil, as well as celebrate the triumph of the love and goodness that Barong represents. People equipped in Barong costumes even, on occasion, parade around Balinese towns in order to ward off evil spirits and bad luck. Barong is locked in a never-ending battle against Rangda and the forces of darkness, yet never gives up hope; As a Bali volunteer in the Bali Volunteer Program puts it, "Once the trance is over, Barong and his supporters finally overthrow Rangda. But she does not die. Instead, she reincarnates and Barong must defeat her again. The fight never stops. It is symbolic of light’s eternal strife against darkness."

In the SMT series, Barong is depicted faithfully, though far more blue than red. Decorated in jewels and studded in silver, the Balinese lion dances in combat, easily connecting to the dance-dramas the beast is so frequently depicted in. Interestingly, a common series staple is that of Rangda and Barong's fusion leading to Shiva, and while unconfirmed, I have an idea as to why this may be the case. While Barong and Rangda are from completely different mythologies, they both represent opposing forces of light and dark, something that Shiva, a god of destruction who is not evil, is an inherent blend of- Shiva is both light and dark, good and evil, while Barong is good, light, and Rangda is evil, dark.

All in all, Balinese myth's hypnotic dances and beautiful performances lend to an amazingly designed demon that truly fulfills all it sets out to do, represents an underrepresented mythology, and stands out as my personal favorite demon in the series. Next to Chernobog and Black Frost, of course. And also Parvati. And Mother Harlot. Am I just edgy?

"Skeppy will probably cry" "Bad will probably cry". Bish, screw, that I am crying!!!

This whole thing was bloody gorgeous and I wasn't expecting that ending. I had no clue what ending to expect but that was definitely better than any I could have hoped for. Forest spirit to soulmate your honour!

I was terrified that you were gonna leave it at the point where he loses the spirit and becomes mortal again. If you had I would be actively sobbing!!!! And oh my god, the art!!! I still can't get over how wonderful your style is.

Imma ask fun things because if I don't I'll sit in a puddle of emotion all night:

What's the first tech thing Bad will buy and how annoying will he be about it? Poor Skeppy trying to answer 101 questions about something he doesn't really use XD.

Is no one concerned that the odd couple from a town they never name has a pet wolf??

Do they immediately go over to a different town or do they wander for a while. Find hidden creeks and befriend bears?

Does Bad still have a connection to nature and animals, like are creatures naturally more trusting of him?

Do they ever visit the og town again?

Does Skeppy still cause absolute chaos in other towns or has he learnt his lesson and only causes minor trouble now?

Does Bad ever try and study again? If he did what would he study and would Skeppy try to study as well?

Does Skeppy steal? I dunno, he just give off the vibe of a naughty lil trickster who'll pocket something if the owner refuses to sell it him.

Immediately after leaving the forest what the first 'argument' they have (not including the car one)?

Would they ever ride horse? If yes, how terrified would Skeppy be?

Skeppy falls outta tree. I don't know why but my mind keeps telling me that this man has great balance until he climbs trees. They are his mortal enemy and Bad finds this both hilarious and terrifying because he is going to hurt himself.

I had waaaaay more questions than I intended to have. My bad '^_^ but this story was way too much fun to read and you are entirely to blame for making it so engaging!

Make sure to take care of yourself and do stretches after and during drawing. You don't wanna hurt yourself <3

AaaaI’m so glad you liked it! :D And, dang, man, I cried while writing that part too :D

And I promised a nice ending for the main story, I did, and this one also makes the most sense narratively! For the story I wanted to tell, at least. Bad can’t really become human again, he’s changed to much. He can only move on, and do something with what he is, and has. And he did! :D That’s really nice and inspiring, this story will always have a place in my heart, heheh <3

Being a guardian spirit connected to a person and all, Bad may be not as strong as before, but he can’t die unless Skeppy dies first. And Skeppy can do that, but he’s pretty sturdy, and his lifespan operates on a whole other scale than human ones. And Bad knowing Skeppy’s real name balances it all out, makes them equal in the power and influence they have over each other.

So hellyeah, soulmates for the win :DDD

I’ll answer all questions under the cut, and this close up from one of the pages!

1) What's the first tech thing Bad will buy and how annoying will he be about it?

Probably a pager! Because it’s a more feasible thing to get than a wholeass computer Bad actually wanted :D An it means Skeppy will have to get one too, and that Bad will be having the time of his life texting him and everyone he can get a number from, even if they’re still in the room with him.

Poor Skeppy indeed, he can learn to appreciate the pagers, and later phones, too, and computers, but he really has 0 idea on how it all works and why Bad is so fascinated by it all.

2) Rat and regular people

Oh, she can shapeshift, just like Bad! If they’re out with people around, she takes form of a puppy, and Bad can pass her off as a weird mix breed rescue doggo.

3) Do they immediately go over to a different town or do they wander for a while?

Oh, since they have no end destination in mind, they can ride around for a bit, go visit some cool places and roadside attractions. Sadly, Skeppy is probably not spiritually or morally ready to full on befriend wild bears yet, and they do need money for gas and snacks. So, at some point they will have to stop somewhere and find work – at least for a bit, to save up. Life’s gonna be a bit complicated with all that, until Skeppy figures out his treasure-finding abilities :DD

4) Bad and nature and animals

He is definitely still in tune with all wildlife! Even more – Bad could become a proper guardian spirit for Skeppy in part because, in a way, Skeppy himself is part of the nature.

So yeah, Bad can understand animals (and plants) and communicate with them; they’re just more free to not take his shit, and Bad’s emotions do not “possess” them unless he makes an effort to do so.

He doesn’t like doing it, tho.

5) Do they ever visit the og town again?

Hm, I think they will completely forget about it for a while, until, like, 30+ years later they will be going somewhere, and find themselves around those parts. And they try to not appear too often in the areas they’ve spent a lot of time in already (they can be pretty recognizable, and also barely show signs of aging). But it’s been a long time, and the town’s really different now… So they make a stop, and spend a day there. They walk the unfamiliar streets between the new buildings, check out the popular hiking trail, the advertisements for hot springs and winter activities. The old cinema is still there, and is hosting an all-night marathon of classic horror movies of the last century.

Bad and Skeppy leave the town after sunset – the day was nice, but they have nothing more to do there. They ride through the forest on a well paved road, with radio playing something barely above the whisper. And in the dark of hot summer night, Bad can see the white stag running between the trees alongside their car. Shadows dance over the shimmering light of it’s fur.

Somewhere after the towns border, the stag disappears back in the forest. But the air in the car stays light and fresh, saving the smell of old pines and dry leaves all though the night.

6) Skeppy and chaos

Well, after the whole mess in the main story, Skeppy definitely learned some lessons, especially about not being a dick :D

But the thing is – he can’t really help the fact that things tend to stir up around him a lot. He naturally brings in chaos into everything, because he is, in part, a personification, or an outlet for it in the world. And so, to feel, well and good, and himself Skeppy gotta do stuff that disrupts balance, and creates some mayhem. And in gave him a lot of trouble in early life, but in the course of the main story he learned that he can chose were he lets that chaos to take hold, learned what can come of that chaos, apart from utter misery.

Like, where it can help dismantle something destructive, and where – bring in the more positive change, that was already brewing, possible, but is stagnant for some reason.

Soooo, I can’t say Skeppy causes only minor chaos in his life, but he sure learns even more about not being a dick :DDDD

7) The studying

I think Bad will want to get a higher education at some point, because he wanted to, and because it’s already new millennia and all that. Bet he’ll go for something very technical and/or literature. Maybe he’ll start by piking up some classes in small time colleges, when they stop in one place for a while, and later get into an online program, because why not.

Skeppy is not a college guy at all. He’ll listen to Bad talk about it, read textbooks if he wants to, can research stuff, buuut going to classes and doing homework is definitely not his thing.

8) Stealing

Well, you’re right, Skeppy can and will steal stuff out of spite! And will be scolded by Bad for it, and will not feel (that) sorry about it. But real stealer between them will be Bad himself :D

It’s just… he has the corvid tendencies, and a hoard (a box) of sentimental mementos from different people and events, and the thrill of stealing something small and harmless is very exciting. Bad is very proud of his little collection. Skeppy finds it very adorable, a bit hypocritical, and kinda creepy. Like, that pretty box he gifted Bad at some point is now full of stuff like:

- pressed flower from the clearing they had a picnic at on their anniversary

- the button the waitress lost that one day the storm caused a black out in the whole town

- some small animal bones

- couple pretty rocks Bad stole from Skeppy’s pockets

- penny that was once glued to the ground

- a handful of teeth people (and not people) lost in fights with Bad

- pen from some fancy hotel

- rainbow dash keychain that belonged to a child

- the list goes on

9) Argument

Oh, that same day they’ll fight over whether they should stay at the really crappy and suspicious looking motel, or go sleep in a perfectly fine forest near the road. Ironically, Bad wanted to try out the motel (because, yay, first time spending the night back in civilization), and Skeppy was the one insisting on sleeping in nature (because the motel looks like it could give you 10 diseases if you even stand near it, and sleeping in the forest is kind of nice, and means they can cuddle).

10) Horses

The guys will probably ride them at some point. Well, Bad will ride, and Skeppy will sit on his horse and hope it knows what to do and where to go, because trying to make this giant thing do something seems dangerous. If they’ll have to actually go somewhere fast, Skeppy will not survive that day, his butt (and legs) will be dead for days to come.

And riding with Bad on one horse may sound romantic and nice, but all romance dies when the gallop starts.

11) Skeppy and climbing

Skeppy is more down to earth kind of guy, more of a “rocks and caves” kind of creature, real-life lizard person or something. Up on the trees and in the air – not really his element, yeah. But it doesn’t mean that Skeppy will accept this fact easy. The embarrassment of never managing to safely make it down a tree is too strong, he just has to do it all over again, and again. And again. Because, clearly, he was distracted this time. And the time before that Bad was teasing him, and it “disrupted his flow”. And, really, maybe these trees here just do not like Skeppy much, and make him slip a lot. Yeah.

So, more often than not, if Skeppy climbs a tree, he will not stop climbing it until he falls, or the tree ends. Bad had to take him off high branches couple times, forcefully, because, of course, Skeppy was sitting there for 2 hours just to properly enjoy the sunset. He can climb down at any point, he just Choses not to. The view is amazing. The bark is literally part of his skin now, not because he holds on tight, no, he’s just Than Much one with the nature )<

Why is that 9 minute boat scene the literal best?

That’s not my question, because that answer is very obvious (it just is).

But there are so many things happening for those 9 minutes and they’re all happening at once and it’s _a_lot_. Almost everything those two say feels like there’s an iceberg of stuff happening underneath it. It’s like a scene from an Ingmar Bergman movie or something. Their dynamic is so addicting, it really swaps out the so-called-perfect two-dimensional couple ‘ideal’ so many of us have been force fed all our lives and replaces it with something that’s actually interesting. And awesome. And badass. GGDD make me believe it’s possible for couples to be badass. Thank you GGDD.

My question is! I wanted to ask if you would ever do a hypothetical clowning breakdown of the boat scene? Like a beat for beat analytic take. What their motivations might actually be despite what they’re saying. What’s being resolved. What’s being poked at. Etc etc etc. Because the constant switching from passive aggressiveness to sincerity to jabbing to performativeness is so fast and so fascinating I would just really like to read your deeper take on all of it.

But that also sounds like a lot of work because that scene is _a_lot. So I understand if your answer is “no, let’s all just enjoy it.”

Fake, fan fiction, CPN.

I don't think there's much subtext to a lot of what they're saying. Mostly they are just killing time with a bit of lighthearted banter. I can give a bit of a breakdown of a few of the things they’re talking about that people might not know some of the background on, though.

At the beginning where GG is about to say something to DD but stops himself, and then tells DD it’s something he says to Jiang Cheng a lot - what he’s talking about there is the phrase "Hard as a dead duck’s beak” to describe someone who is stubborn. It’s a phrase he won’t use on DD because GG is really superstitious and he won’t say anything involving death or injury around DD, who is involved in dangerous sports (racing, skateboarding).

Then they talk about GG ‘not being there yesterday’. That’s because he was also filming Joy of Life at the time, and that schedule conflicted a bit with The Untamed, so he had to do a bit of juggling during filming to be available for both dramas. DD makes fun of GG, but uses stronger language than entirely necessary, which is just so funny. They are so unhinged with each other.

(And I see this part as a bit similar to the ‘trash boyfriend’ bickering in a different BTS video, where GG uses stronger language than entirely necessary to dig at DD a bit about LWJ’s lack of support for WWX earlier in the story. They tend to use exaggerated language with each other, which is a further sign of the closeness of their relationship. They couldn't get away with being so harsh with people they aren't very close to.)

Then they start a bit of a pissing contest over who can be the most apologetic/exaggeratedly gracious, which is hilarious.

After that it’s all pretty straightforward for a long time. Then comes one of my favorite moments, when GG pounds his hand on his heart and pleads with DD, “Wang Yibo, ask yourself, are you human?” For some interesting and hilarious insight on that I recommend reading this series of posts by @potteresque-ire.

They end up in the bottom of the boat together, and GG asks DD if he needs a tissue. This is likely a HILARIOUS reference to the fact that they look like they're squatting to take a shit.

Then they start talking about dancing, and there are a couple of things that stood out to me about this:

DD shows some restraint and patience here and doesn't openly mock GG for some of the uninformed things he says about dance moves, etc. He really lets GG off the hook a lot more than he does other people.

GG asks DD if he wears knee pads, which DD scoffs at. But later, during SDOC3 we see DD wearing knee pads a lot. LOL. Fans speculate that's GG's influence.

Then they start talking about who has more experience, and this is when DD really starts with his soft baby talk voice at GG, which totally kills me every time.

Then DD brings up GG's skill as a designer, and GG scoffs at it and says it's useless. DD says, "You can design your own logo." Little did they know at the time, but GG ends up doing exactly that, and it's a really beautiful one.

I won't even get into detail on the things GG is believed by fans to have designed for DD, but yeah, his skill didn't prove useless at all.

Then they bicker a bit about pretty straightforward stuff. They talk about the lines they have to memorize at one point. There's actually a photo circulating around somewhere, comparing the script DD's voiceover actor had vs the one GG's voiceover actor had. DD's was a few pages, while GG's was a thick booklet. LOL. I wish I could find that picture for you but I guess I didn't save it.

My 5 Favorite Moments of GGDD

Like last time, the GGDD moments were difficult to choose, because I like them all. I had to look at some things again. But, finally, I posted it for mistake...😃😃😃😃. The fate wanted me to post this.

5. On BAZAAR interview, first of all I love the fact that they say that they knew each other before on TTXS, but both emphasize that there was no eye contact, nor that they spoke, but that's not what I like, it's just an addition for put us, in context. What I like, is when GG draws DD (I think most of them like it), DD says his eyes aren't that big, but GG says he had heard comments from some friends saying that DD's eyes were tight, so GG drew DD's eyes bigger. Meanwhile, he says that ... DD looks at him with a silly face and smiles, even he places his hand on his chin, looking very focused on what his GG says (it is my impression, it can vary between viewers), GG makes a sign, but DD plays dumb and clears his throat, looking away (more like he's trying not to see his GG).

4. In TTXS, when they were together in the same place for the first time, in 2017. A cute GG, with a pink jacket and accompanied by X-NINE and a DD very cute and surprisingly smiling, imitating everything that his not-yet-GG did, is that DD couldn't take his eyes off from GG, DD moved his hands nervously when he was next to GG, and DD looked at him when GG looked away, but stopped when it was already very obvious (I keep saying it's my perspective, others may think other things). I don't think GG didn't realize it, because I think, when someone looks at another person a lot, that person has to realize it, for me, DD…well, the fool was very obvious. He even showed off his mating dancing (is a joke) just to impress his GG and use his pistol finger to aim at him at the end of the dance (yeah, for me he aimed at GG). DD and his love at first sight…GG couldn't be saved.

3. At Happy Camp. First is the fact that they sat next to each other, moving away if the person on the opposite side got too close, so they were practically on top of each other (I have a meme about that…). When the hosts asked questions, they both started whispering to each other (I won't say anything more about this). Then there's the dance they did, DD was distracted by GG (my mom told me *the boy in the flowered shirt* didn't dance that well, just looking at GG and that was a comment she made when I didn't even believe that they were SZD, still) and then there's that dance move that couples suspiciously do in their wedding photos. Then, DD started pouting, because GG was paying more attention to Daxun. At the Happy Camp hole games. DD allows GG to win, even though DD is competitive by nature and always wants to win (that seemed pretty obvious to me, DD's “double standard” makes an appearance, for his GG). GG gets jealous of Daxun, when he and DD are trapped inside the hole, one on top of the other (his face is scary), but DD doesn't realize at the time (but then cleverly fixes it). Also, when DD gets hurt (although this isn't a good thing) we see GG's real concern, that he is unlike any other. You can see the others concerned, but GG's concern is so legitimate and true that it even hurts me every time I see him again (maybe because he felt guilty that DD hurt himself from the necklace he gave him). The last thing about this, is the fact that they share every little comment, no matter how silly it is, it is so sweet.

2. TTXS 2019, First is the fact that DD invited GG, I think, he could invited someone else. After all, GG was a person, whom DD knew for a short time in 2018, if we put them on the screen, but still DD decided to take it to TTXS, who are a family to him. Then, GG and DD sang their respectively songs "What I Miss" and "If I Were Young", I mean from all the speculation that was made with bombology, DD was supposed to be angry that day (for some reasons), but when they both sing these songs. The way DD sang the song and how sweet GG smile was, DD's voice was so soft and full of soul, so soothing. GG nailed the high notes and turned to DD to meet his eyes while singing. DD was fascinated even though he can't clearly show it. Uff...every time I see them I have to look away, I can't handle that ... both are so...well, that's why I like it so much ... besides, the fact that DD brought his photo album when he was a child and GG wanted to take it (is a joke 😂), he was serious about bringing the album, DD is so silly cute. GG also sings "Love Confession", when he's sitting with the other guests. DD stares at him with sheep's eyes, until GG signals DD for stop to looking at him (with heart eyes), because they are recording them...this man, I can't handle him, neither of them.

1. Interview for "The Paper", DD and GG both have a stuffed animal in their hands (they both look sweet). MC ask them various things (obviously), they both look so comfortable and smiling. MC even ask them if WWX and LWJ's bedtime was the same as them. DD says no, and GG says he's similar, GG says "Sometimes he ... aren't you?" "Sometimes you will stay up later?" (Me: GG, how do you know that? 👀, they are the best friends forever 😂) and DD says yes. Near the end they talked about when they were both filming, that they should record scenes from when WWX and LWJ were young by the day and at night the "after 13/16 years" scenes. The MC asks, what would they think, if a TV show organizes them to go skiing and DD says he can teach to GG and GG laughs saying he's just a beginner (this kills me, they look so wonderfully comfortable) DD looks sweet saying some of ski techniques, while looking at his GG softly, in the end GG says it's okay. Afterwards, the MC asks what they would say to "CQL" fans who say they look the most beautiful after watching all 50 episodes of the drama. GG say a lot of things with a sweet voice and then he is ashamed (it is a sweetheart) and DD wants to laugh at what his GG says, but when it is his turn he says that he will not say anything, GG shows his rabbit teeth ... (Double standard, it seems DD really likes when his GG shows his rabbit teeth to him). And here comes my favorite part. The word is supposed to be deep, but I don't really know what it means, it seems like something important and obviously GG is very surprised that DD said it. Well, they ask you to describe the CQL summer in three words. GG answers right away, burning hot "灼热" (not the literal characters) and DD thinks about it for a moment, quite a bit, compared to how fast GG answered. At the end, DD says true fellings "真情实感" GG looks at him for a moment and lets out a WOW!!! Very tall, covering his mouth, he seemed very surprised. DD seems to realize that it was obvious (it's my imagination), but he says he wants to change the phrase to touching "就感人" (or something like that) but, GG tells him that they aren't going to edit just because he said that ... I mean, he screwed up 😂😂😂. Simple woman, this is the first place after all.

Honorable Mention

Sina Interview in CQL film place. When, GG starts to flatter DD by saying that he danced well in TTXS, but later he realizes that he was not only a good dancer, but also a good actor and when he mentions that LZ doesn't have many lines (mentions LWJ and DD gets angry 😂😂😂), DD makes this face. (Note that DD was happy, as he watched his GG compliment him, until he mentioned LZ)

Ahhhhh

This is hella cute.

So when the copycats aren’t being copy cats they are very normal people.

They mostly work a lot, the three adults, while Miles does a lot of school and being a grumpy teenager. But they all do have their moments.

Angel, for example, is a bisexual disaster who is unaware that half her coworkers are in love with her (at both her jobs). They think she’s funny and charming and extremely hard working, despite her vociferous complaining. But she operates on the principle that while she is a gift to humanity and anyone would be lucky to have her, the possibility of her having a stable, long-lasting relationship is next to nil. As such, she is blissfully ignorant of all the people trying to impress her and bounces around between her jobs, school, and home like a ping-pong ball.

She hasn’t really had hobbies since highschool since she’s so busy, but she does love to watch shitty tv and movies and chill with friends. She used to be hella sporty in highschool (rowing and kickboxing and jiu jitsu), but these days she’s really into music and fashion (she met Louis through a gig they played together–she plays bass). She and Miles compete for the most fashionable Spidey. Tats and Louis are kind of effortlessly, accidentally fashionable people. Tats buys things for very explicit purposes (like his Caution/Hi-Vis sneakers) and Louis buys things for comfort. Angel and Miles, though, will eschew comfort in the name of one-upmanship.

Angel and Miles have also made Spidey twitters, which they use almost exclusively to piss each other off when they aren’t in the suits. They are very popular. People are fascinated with their sibling rivalry and the never ending battle over Tats’s approval/favorite.

Louis, on the other hand, lives a fairly quiet existence. He is too shy to talk to his laundry crush. He has successfully handed her a pair of socks she dropped once and the smile she gave him made him want to die. People wouldn’t believe it from looking at him, but he is painfully shy and quiet and his friends are always disappointed with it (They’re all big music and dancing and club people). They try to set him up with people all the time, but it always ends up the same. Louis looks all tall, dark, and handsome, but he’s not a bad boy at all.

Louis’s thing is music. He plays synth. He doesn’t like his job at the present because he doesn’t like his boss and he feels less like he’s helping people get affordable housing and more like he’s helping rich folks use affordable housing for their own reasons. He’s really not about that. He talks to his mom about it all the time; she tells him to join a different non-profit, but he’s not convinced that it will be any different there. On the weekends, he takes part in orgs which build homes for folks who can’t afford it and he plays shows for charity.

Miles spends a lot of time in school, as you would expect. In the Inimitable Verse, Visions Academy is not a live-in school like it is in the Spiderverse. So Miles has to navigate being Spiderman at home and not getting caught by his dad. The lengths to which he has to go to, to do this just get greater and greater. Jefferson is suspicious as hell because he’s been out in the city a couple of time and seen Miles wandering around with Angel, Louis, or Peter and his stranger-danger alarm goes off. He demands that Miles explain who these adults are.

Miles keeps forgetting the backstories he comes up with to explain them.

When he’s not doing crazy shit with Team Red or doing homework, Miles does art. He and Steve actually form a cute, artsy friendship wherein Steve teaches him how to draw classically and Miles teaches Steve about street art. Jefferson and Rio find out about this and are fucking gobsmacked when Miles nervously introduces them to his new buddy/neighbor Captain fucking America. They get even more weirded out when Steve’s like, oh please come have tea with us. They sit in his living room which is just stuffed full of plants and JB’s grumpiness and cigarettes and get fed tea by Captain fucking America who their child is apparently teaching all about graffiti and lettering. Sam comes home at one point and is like, ‘oh hey, Miles is back. Hey kid.’ and then Jefferson and Rio start to realize that not only is Cap kind of a weirdo, but he’s also in a 3 way relationship with his best friends, nbd. Don’t even trip. They can’t decide if this is a good relationship or a bad one.

And finally, we get to Dave. Dave spends almost all his time teaching middle-aged white ladies how to kickbox. He runs several fitness classes. And when he’s not doing that, he does some personal training. and when he’s not doing that, he’s full-on dad. He makes lunches, goes grocery shopping, checks homework, shepherds the soccer team wherever they need to be, goes to soccer games. He’s the dad-iest dad ever. He and his wife separated amicably a while back. They’d been together since high school and just weren’t the same people they used to be. So Charlie bounces between houses while the divorce is getting settled. She lives primarily with Dave because he’s closer to her school and club. He tries to get her to spend time with her mom, but she’s always been closer to him and so doesn’t really get it.

When Dave has free weekends, he goes and has a few beers with his buddies. They don’t know he’s a copycat. Two of them are ex-police and hate DD and his copycat which leads to some very intentional face-stuffing at key points in the conversation on Dave’s part.

Anyways, this has gone on for far too long. I love these guys, they’re all so sweet and doing their best! Thanks for asking about them.

honestly, a lot of different things enter my mind at once. like, the fact that he’s just the embodiment of bts’ beginning, that everything (and i mean everything! that’s been happening in their lives and ours, and what’s happening right now) started with just him. he’s been the driving force of bts for almost four years now, and it always blows my mind…just how lucky we are that a person like him is bts’ leader. i think of how proud i am of him (he always gets me the most emo…and maybe yoongi :’D). but, all of those things are 1.5, because the very first thing that comes to my mind, when i think of namjoon, is the letter that i wrote for him. god knows if he’ll ever see it, but it sure became very special to me. i was writing it for about two weeks, adding things that i’d like to say to him, or just random thoughts i had during the day, or recommending songs, or poems. but the main reason i started it in the first place…my love for bts is way past the point of “just admiring an artist”, so in that letter i was trying to explain to him (and probably to other boys through him) that the “i love you’s” he hears from ARMYs, more often than not, mean so much more than just someone mindlessly replying to their tweet. the thought of them not truly understanding how much they mean to a lot of us…it frustrates and scares me. so, yeah… :’DD

28. what immediately comes to your mind when you think of Taehyung?

i will be faster with the rest :’D

lately, gucci and van gogh haha no, but really, probably the fact that he was the first one who really hooked me (thus - my first bias). i remember watching a very old bangtan bomb (at the time i was just getting familiar with them), where he just dances on his own, in the middle of the night, and goes from just running around to doing a choreography for NMD or We Are Bulletproof pt.2 (he was also dressed for that era), and i was thinking “hm, this boy is special. he looks free. i’d like to see inside his mind. i bet it’s fascinating there. i also bet he’s smarter than he let’s on”. and the second thing, that sealed the deal, was his cover of “hug me” with hobi. then i thought “ah, i want to fall asleep to this voice every night”.

29. what immediately comes to your mind when you think of Jungkook?

what will always warm my heart about him, is the way he loves his brothers and how he looks up to them. i mean, he’s a living proof of the fact that he was surrounded by great people while growing up, because he grew up into a delightful young man (i sound old :’D). he’s thankful, kind, caring, hardworking - all at such a young age, and it’s inspiring. i also love seeing other boys showing their fondness towards him. they are all like proud fathers, when he succeeds at something, like ‘yep, that’s our boy’. basically, the first thing that comes to my mind is “protect at all costs” :’D

31. rank the vocal line in terms of favorite singing style?

i refuse to rank, i will just say what i love about their voices hehe

jin - his voice is made for ballads like “awake”. i had full body chills when i first heard it. if taehyung’s low register feels to me a bit hollow (which is not a bad thing), then jin’s sounds rich and full, yet not charged. it has airiness to it. i like his voice best when he’s not straining it. he also usually is stable with his vocals.jimin - unlike with jin, i like when he’s straining his voice :)) i like when he growls a little, like in “tony montana” stage. but, over all, his voice is so damn sensual…lord, have mercy :’Dtaehyung - i mean, should we really elaborate? ;) deep as the ocean, smooth as crimson velvet. one of the most unique voices i’ve ever heard. just gorgeous. go back to 28 for more references hehejungkook - his voice is just so…nice. so damn nice and soothing, but he also knows how to use it and how to play with it. it feels like he has the most control over his vocal instrument. when he sings, you just know that he’s doingwhat he loves and what he was supposed to do with his life. he’s just so good *slams fist on table* :’D

43. do you talk openly about bts in front of friends and family?

with my best friends and closest family, yes. i wil probably refrain from mentioning them too much in front of someone who’s clearly not interested :’D

49. what kind of concept would you like to see in the future?

i am honestly all for them continuing their “stages of growing up” theme. i think it’s very clever. lets fans grow with them and share experiences. if they continue basing theirs storylines on books and short stories…that would get a big thumbs up from me 👍 if that’s not a revolution in education then i don’t know what is hehe but if they go away from that…hm, i already kind of got modern royalty from them in bs&t, not directly though. a detective story would be fun, something noire (if classic suits would get involved that’d be great ). i know, a lot of people are tired of theories, but i can’t help it. i love confusing and mysterious storylines. sue me 💃🏻

Holy fuck i don’t remember anything about this show but there’s a lot of fanfiction for it and also i’m at home in bed eating icecream and feeling feelings so what better time is there going to be. NONE

The way he says “wow” isn’t--- how i would expect? I know i’m projecting a little but Yuri was not being affectionate just then and Victor’s “wow” was like-- besotted. “Wow, look at all he can do! he can shout at me so well! wow he’s gonna kill it out there!” not “wow my would-be boyf/skater is Super Anxious!”

!!!! so MUCH is happening emotionally so quickly -Yuri is entirely in his own head, which is certainly focused but with a potentially worrisome focal point (focusing on not losing focus is Not A Great Headspace) -Victor is not doing things wrong per se but Yuri having to look for him, Minako looking super unimpressed that he’s so naturally flashy, and Victor’s own nerves about how to treat Yuri before skating (and all of the :D-face talking and confidence in Yuri that isn’t helping his nerves) -and just, Minako knowing Yuri better than Victor does at this point, but at a point/place where she doesn't know how to/physically cannot help -Yuri skating up and going “jesus christ why is he prickly at me”
