Royal Godparents to Royal Godchildren
I did this list back in 2012, and got some great responses. I've updated and edited parts of the list. Again, any corrections and/or adds, message me! Thanks in advance!
When choosing godparents for their children, the parents often chose friends or other relatives. Often in royal circles, royals also pick other royals. Here’s a partial list. (Yes, I know some lists are incompelte as some of these royals’s godchildren are not royals themselves.) If you have any additions, please feel free to message me!

It’s so frustrating how even out of the UK/British colonies we’re getting force fed Liz II/Chuck III content. We never do that for any other foreign royal family. I don’t even remember anything on the news when Juan Carlos of Spain abdicated (the fact that I have to clarify where he’s from at all :/ while fucking Prince Charles gets a pass). I don’t even know the name of the King of the Netherlands, or Belgium, or Sweden.
And the Borbóns are so much hotter than the Windsors for fuck’s sake

actually noww that i think about it the drakovian royal family having a british surname (while it does weaken the worldbuilding dgmw) is entirely possible given that the royal family of Spain is French (Bourbon/Borbón) and the royal family of Sweden is French (Bernadotte) and the royal family of Britain is German (Windsor, formerly Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) and the royal family of Greece was German (Wittelsbach) and then Danish (Glücksburg) and the royal family of Romania was German (Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen)

Princess Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (20 April 1884 – 13 July 1966) was a member of the British royal family, a male-line granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She later married into the Spanish royal family, and was the wife of Prince Alfonso de Orleans y Borbón, Infante of Spain, a first cousin of Alfonso XIII of Spain.

Isabel of Bourbon and Bourbon (1866) by Vicente Palmaroli
Infanta Isabel (1851-1931), also known as "La Chata" (a reference to her snub nose) was the first child of Isabel II of Spain. She was Princess of Asturias (heir of the Spanish throne) until her brother, the future Alfonso XII, was born. And again from the time he became king until his first child was born.
She was married to Prince Gaetan, Count of Girgenti. He suffered from epilepsy (which she didn't know of until they got married) and committed suicide after Isabel had a miscarriage. She never remarried.
When his brother managed to become king after the First Spanish Republic (Isabel II's family had lived in exile since the revolution that had dethorned her) she also went to Spain and help him with the roles a Queen Consort would have. Her three younger sisters were also left to her care. And when her brother died she became a second mother to her nephews.
She was so popular in Spain that when the Second Republic was declared she was offer to remain in the country becauseof her old age, she declined nonetheless and died just days after in France.
(This portrait can be found in the Royal Palace of Madrid)

Carlota Joaquina de Borbón (1775 – 1830)
She was the second child of King Carlos IV of Spain and Maria Luisa of Parma. Despite the rigidity of her education and court etiquette, the Infanta was described as mischievous and playful. Maria Luisa would go down in history as one of the most unpopular queens in Spain and her bad reputation deeply affected her children, especially Carlota, the firstborn daughter.
Carlota Joaquina married King João VI of Portugal in 1785. Detested by the Portuguese court — where she was called "the Shrew of Queluz"— Carlota Joaquina gradually won the antipathy of the people, who accused her of promiscuity and influencing her husband in favor of the interests of the Spanish crown.
Carlota Joaquina's husband was good-natured, indolent, corpulent and almost as ugly as she was. His religious observances bored her, and they were quite incompatible. Nevertheless, she gave birth to nine children during their marriage and, because they were all handsome, it was rumoured that especially the younger ones had a different father.
Tumblr media
Carlota Joaquina organized a plot with the intention to take the reins of power from her husband, arresting him and declaring that he was incapable of rule like his mother. However in 1805 this plot was discovered, but Carlota Joaquina was saved because her husband, wishing to avoid a public scandal, opposed to her arrest, preferring to confine his wife to Queluz Palace and Ramalhão Palace, while he himself moved to Mafra Palace, effectively separating from her. At that time Carlota Joaquina's enemies claimed that she had bought a retreat where she indulged in sexual orgies.
In 1807, the Portuguese royal family left Portugal for Brazil because of the Napoleonic invasion. Carlota Joaquina also planned to usurp the Spanish crown that was in the hands of Napoleon's brother Joseph Bonaparte. After the marriage in 1817 of her son Pedro with the Archduchess Leopoldina of Austria and the later return of the royal family to Portugal in 1821, Carlota Joaquina was confined in the Royal Palace of Queluz. Her husband died in March 1826. Claiming ill-health, Carlota Joaquina refused to visit his deathbed and started the rumour that her husband had been poisoned by the Freemasons. Carlota Joaquina died in Queluz four years after, alone and abandoned by her children. It is speculated whether she died because of natural causes or whether she, in fact, killed herself.

Happy 83rd birthday to HM Queen Sofia of Spain Princess of Greece and Denmark
Queen Sophia Of Spain was born as Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark on 2 November 1938, at Tatoi Palace in Acharnes, Athens, Greece, the eldest child of King Paul and his wife, Queen Frederica. Sofia is a member of the Greek branch of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg dynasty. Her brother is the deposed King Constantine II and her sister is Princess Irene.
Princess Sophia spent some of her childhood in Egypt where she took her early education in El Nasr Girls' College (EGC) in Alexandria. She lived in South Africa during her family's exile from Greece during World War II, where her sister Irene was born. They returned to Greece in 1946. She finished her education at the prestigious Schloss Salem boarding school in Southern Germany, and then studied childcare, music and archeology in Athens. She also studied at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, a constituent college of the University of Cambridge.
She was a reserve member, alongside her brother Constantine, of Greece's gold medal-winning sailing team in the 1960 Summer Olympics.
Sofía met her paternal third cousin the then Infante Juan Carlos of Spain on a cruise in the Greek Islands in 1954; they met again at the wedding of the Duke of Kent, her paternal second cousin, at York Minster in June 1961. Sofia and Juan Carlos married on 14 May 1962, at the Catholic Cathedral of Saint Dionysius in Athens.
Sofia converted from Greek Orthodoxy to Roman Catholicism to become more palatable to Catholic Spain, and thus relinquished her rights to the Greek throne. Along with this, the usual Latinisation of her Greek name was changed from Sophia to the Spanish variant, Sofía.
The couple has three children: Elena (born 20 December 1963); Cristina (born 13 June 1965); and Felipe (born 30 January 1968).
And eight grandchildren Their four grandsons and four granddaughters are Felipe and Victoria de Marichalar y de Borbón, Juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene Urdangarín y de Borbón, and Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Sofía, all of whom are in the line of succession to the Spanish throne.

Le Comte’s First Love: Part One
Le Comte X Paola
Paola Borbón was born into the Spanish royal family. She was the one and only offspring her father King Antonio had with her mother Queen Carlota who had fertility issues. Unfortunately, Carlota died while giving birth to Paola in 1712 and King Antonio was so overcome by the grief of his loss he took his own life.
From a young age, Paola was sent off to live in the outskirts of Spain to secure her position to the throne. Her aunt Isabel was given the position to rule as regent while Paola grew up.
Paola lived in a ranch in the Spanish countryside where she loved gardening and playing with the farm animals. She was a tomboy who would play in the dirt and bask in the sun for hours, soon her skin started to develop a beautiful tan glow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She knew one day she would have to prepare to rule as Queen of Spain so she had fun while she could. When her caretakers felt Paola was mature enough to rule as Queen, she would be sent off to fulfill her role. This event occurred when Paola turned 16 and was sent to the Royal Palace of Madrid to fulfill her duty as Queen of Spain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Paola arrived at the Palace she was shocked by the extravagant decor and luxurious lifestyle the royal family led. While she was in hiding, she had no access to such indulgences. The main priority for her was to remain alive and to do so, she couldn’t attract unwanted attention.
Paola needed to be courted by an affluent man who would have the opportunity to be crowned King after marrying her. The royal family then held countless feasts for the purpose of finding prospective suitors for Paola. This is how she met Claude Louis, a wealthy count who was five years her senior. He was a handsome, well educated young man who yearned to learn more than what was imaginable. Paola was entranced by his charisma so they remained in contact while she decided who she would marry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During a period of three years, Claude and Paola would meet in secret. Claude would sneak into Paola's chambers at night so that they could spend time together. They had a passionate physical relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was sure she wanted to marry him.
Right before Paola was going to tell Claude about her decision, rumors started to break out in the palace regarding her virginity. She was then scrutinized, inspected and put on probation. She knew she had lost her virginity to Claude so she was frightened of what would happen to her should anyone find out. Paola was carefully observed under several virginity tests from which she developed irreversible damage and trauma.
At this time, Paola wasn’t allowed to meet her suitors.
A few months had passed since Claude was able to meet Paola. He grew tiresome.
It was then ruled by the court’s medics that Paola was not a virgin so she was subjected to execution for adultery and heresy.
As soon as Claude heard the news, he departed from his estate in the Spanish highlands to seek Paola. When he arrived, he sneaked once again into her chambers and assured Paola she would be alright. Claude informed Paola that he was a vampire and could save her. Paola was hesitant at first but then agreed to be turned into a vampire.
During execution day, she faked her death and later escaped with Claude and lived to experience many more adventures together.

Also, Claude is Comte. That’s his name if you were confused while reading this.
