66 years since the death of HI&RH Princess Helena of Greece and Denmark Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia (29 January 1882 – 13 March 1957). Princess Helena was the only daughter and youngest child of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia and Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Her husband was Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and they were both first cousins of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia. They had 3 children : 1)Princess Olga of Greece married Prince Paul of Yugoslavia; 2)Princess Elizabeth of Greece married Count Karl Theodor zu Toerring-Jettenbach, son of Duchess Sophie in Bavaria and scion of an old and rich Bavarian mediatized family; and 3)Princess Marina of Greece married the Prince George, Duke of Kent in November 1934.She was also first cousin of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Queen consort of Denmark and the grandmother of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Honourable Lady Ogilvy, and Prince Michael of Kent. Princess Elena became a widow early in 1938, as Prince Nicholas suffered a heart attack and died suddenly. Constantine formally remained Greece's head of state in exile, until the junta abolished the monarchy in June 1973 (a decision ratified via a referendum in July). 76 years since the death of HM King George II of Hellenes Prince of Denmark in 1st of April 1947 in Athens Royal Palace and got buried in The Royal Cemetery in Tatoi Royal Estate 15km Outside Athens.

In elections held on 31 March 1946, the monarchist parties won a clear majority of the parliamentary seats, aided by the abstention of the Communists, and the referendum on the monarchy was set for 1 September. Between then and the plebiscite, the electoral registers were revised under Allied supervision. The announced results claimed 68.4% in favour of the King's return on an 86.6% turnout.

On 26 September, George returned to Greece to find the Royal Palace looted, the woods at Tatoi chopped down for fuel, and corpses buried in shallow graves outside .His country faced economic collapse and political instability.

He died of arteriosclerosis on 1 April 1947, after he was discovered unconscious in his room at the Royal Palace in Athens. When the news was announced some thought it to be an April Fool's Day joke.

His funeral was held on 6 April at the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, and he is buried in the Royal Cemetery in Tatoi Royal Estate 15. Km outside Athens.

He was succeeded by his younger brother, Prince Paul.

Στις εκλογές που διεξήχθησαν στις 31 Μαρτίου 1946, τα μοναρχικά κόμματα κέρδισαν τη σαφή πλειοψηφία των κοινοβουλευτικών εδρών, με τη βοήθεια της αποχής των κομμουνιστών, και το δημοψήφισμα για τη μοναρχία ορίστηκε για την 1η Σεπτεμβρίου. Από τότε και το δημοψήφισμα, οι εκλογικοί κατάλογοι αναθεωρήθηκαν υπό την επίβλεψη των Συμμάχων. Τα ανακοινωθέντα αποτελέσματα υποστήριξαν το 68,4% υπέρ της επιστροφής του Βασιλιά με ποσοστό συμμετοχής 86,6%.

Στις 26 Σεπτεμβρίου, ο Γιώργος επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα για να βρει το Βασιλικό Παλάτι λεηλατημένο, τα ξύλα στο Τατόι κομμένα για καύσιμα και τα πτώματα θαμμένα σε ρηχούς τάφους έξω. Η χώρα του αντιμετώπισε οικονομική κατάρρευση και πολιτική αστάθεια.

Πέθανε από αρτηριοσκλήρωση την 1η Απριλίου 1947, αφού τον ανακάλυψαν αναίσθητο στο δωμάτιό του στο Βασιλικό Παλάτι στην Αθήνα. Όταν ανακοινώθηκε η είδηση, κάποιοι νόμιζαν ότι ήταν πρωταπριλιάτικο αστείο.

Η κηδεία του τελέστηκε στις 6 Απριλίου στον Ορθόδοξο Μητροπολιτικό Καθεδρικό Ναό Αθηνών και κηδεύεται στο Βασιλικό Κοιμητήριο στο Βασιλικό Κτήμα Τατοΐου 15. χμ έξω από την Αθήνα.

Τον διαδέχθηκε ο μικρότερος αδερφός του, Πριγκιπας Παύλος.

76 years since the enthronement of HM King Paul of Greece (wearing the Order of the Redeemer and the Order of Saints George and Constantine) was joined by Queen Frederica (in the Order of the Redeemer), as he made his first speech in front of the Greek Parliament at the Old Royal Palace in Athens 2st of April in 1947, the day after the death of his brother, King George II, and his accession to the Throne. The Prime Minister announced:

With deepest sorrow I announce to us the sudden death of King George II. King Paul I ascends the throne. King Paul, who wants to take the oath before you according to articles 43 and 49 of the current Constitution.”

King Paul took the oath of office, after which the Speaker of Parliament exclaimed “Long live the King”.

Με βαθύτατη θλίψη μας ανακοινώνω τον ξαφνικό θάνατο του Βασιλιά Γεωργίου Β'. Ο βασιλιάς Παύλος Α' ανεβαίνει στο θρόνο. Ο Βασιλιάς Παύλος, που θέλει να ορκιστεί ενώπιόν σας σύμφωνα με τα άρθρα 43 και 49 του ισχύοντος Συντάγματος».

Ο Βασιλιάς Παύλος ορκίστηκε, μετά τον οποίο ο Πρόεδρος της Βουλής αναφώνησε «Ζήτω ο Βασιλιάς».

Κατά το Β΄ Βαλκανικό Πόλεμο υπήρξε πάλι Αρχιστράτηγος του Ελληνικού Στρατού, οδηγώντας τον σε νέες νίκες κατά των Βουλγάρων, οι οποίες όμως κόστισαν πολύ σε ζωές. 90 χρόνια από τον θάνατο Της ΑΜ Βασιλιά Γεωργίου Ά των Ελλήνων Πρίγκιπα της Δανίας Ο Γεώργιος Α' (24 Δεκεμβρίου 1845 - 18 Μαρτίου 1913) υπήρξε ο σημαντικότερος βασιλιάς για την Ελλάδα και ο μόνος που βασίλευσε για τόσο μεγάλο διάστημα (50 χρόνια). Παντρεύτηκε στις 27 Οκτωβρίου 1867 στην Αγία Πετρούπολη, τη δεκαεξάχρονη τότε Μεγάλη Δούκισσα Όλγα Κωνσταντίνοβνα της Ρωσίας, κατευθείαν απόγονο της Βυζαντινής αυτοκράτειρας Ευφροσύνης Δούκαινας-Καματηράς (σύζυγο του Αλέξιου Γ΄ των Αγγέλων). Απέκτησαν οκτώ παιδιά: Κωνσταντίνος Α΄ Γεώργιος Αλεξάνδρα Νικόλαος Μαρία Όλγα απεβίωσε έξι μηνών.Ανδρέας Χριστόφορος Στη διάρκεια της βασιλείας του Γεωργίου Α΄ η Ελλάδα από απόψεως εδαφικής απέκτησε τη μορφή που έχει σχεδόν σήμερα Στα χρόνια του προσαρτήθηκαν τα Επτάνησα (1863), η Θεσσαλία (1881) και η Μακεδονία, η Ήπειρος, η Θράκη και τα νησιά του Αιγαίου με την Κρήτη στη διάρκεια των Βαλκανικών Πολέμων.
