The continuing Writers Guild of America strike posed various obstacles for this year's MTV Movie & TV Awards. Despite the fact that the awards event was supposed to air live on Sunday, it was revealed that due to the strike, the network would screen a pre-taped special because some participants had indicated that they would no longer be going.  We're pivoting away from a live event that still allows us to produce a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peaks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect, and countless moments that will both surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and TV over the past year, said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, and public relations. 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards results

The MTV Movie & TV Awards were produced in a whirlwind of changes during a tumultuous week due to the writers' strike, and a ragtag group of actors were presented with golden popcorn statuettes on Sunday. 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards results With the most nominations among written material, the blockbuster movie "Top Gun: Maverick" is accompanied by the TV shows "Stranger Things," "The Last of Us," "The White Lotus," and "Wednesday." Shows like "Jersey Shore Family Vacation," "RuPaul's Drag Race," "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and "Vanderpump Rules" led the nominations in the unscripted categories. The Comic Genius Award went to Jennifer Coolidge, and Purple Hearts won for "Come Back Home" as best musical performance. Drew Barrymore had been scheduled to host the annual event, but she said on Thursday that she will no longer be doing it in support of the ongoing writers' strike. Even though part of Barrymore's material had already been recorded before the strike started, the ceremony continued without a designated presenter. Barrymore promised in a statement that she would return to host the program in 2024. The MTV Movie & TV Awards are "pivoting away from a live event" by airing a pre-recorded version of the ceremony in response to reports that striking Writers Guild of America members planned to picket at the Santa Monica Barker Hangar, where the event is being filmed. Executive producer Bruce Gillmer said this in a statement to CNN. Flashback clips from previous MTV Movie & TV Awards events, which made up the vast portion of the show, and pre-recorded remarks from winners were both parts of that pivot during the telecast. From a metaphorical hot head to a literal hot head, Johnny’s life has drastically changed. He went from being an average teen to the top of the headlines all due to one cosmic accident. The first year and a half after the accident was pretty rough. Their powers were out of control and Johnny couldn’t turn his flames off. Time helped him gain control though, and now he’s killing it. With Susan finally convincing Reed that the world was bad enough that they owed it to the public to use their powers, Johnny’s been allowed to reenter society and have some semblance of a life outside of the Baxter Building once more. What happened to them was a bummer at the time, but Johnny enjoys it now. Who wouldn’t love being able to fly and light themselves on fire? It’s time for Johnny to flame on and kick ass.

✗ SUSAN STORM (PRIME) helped to raise Johnny in the midst of their family drama. Johnny didn’t appreciate how big her sacrifice was for a long time. He tries to be more cognizant now of Susan and everything that she does for him. Everything that’s happened has been hard on Sue, but she’s done nothing but put on a brave face. Johnny’s found himself following his example and doing the best to do the same. Of course, the Storm siblings are different in a few key ways. Johnny wants to help people, of course, but he’s also eating it all up in a way that his sister isn’t. Like always, he’ll be a hellion and Sue can be Sue. They’ll always balance each other out. 

✗ REED RICHARDS (PRIME) has come dangerously close to breaking the heart of Johnny’s sister and that doesn’t fly with him. Hurting Sue emotionally is the least of it, really. He’s the one who pushed them to go out that night in the unstable conditions that ultimately led to them getting powers. When Johnny thought he was going to die as his body burned nonstop after the accident, blaming Reed may have crossed his mind. He’s watched the guy spiral in the year since, though. Reed’s really tried to fix things. The kicker is just that Johnny doesn’t want them fixed anymore. He’s happy as he is and has no anger towards Reed. The team needs a leader, after all, and while Susan would be a good choice she’s made it clear she’s not interested. Reed got them into this, now he can lead them into their new futures.

✗ BEN GRIMM (PRIME) may be a pile of rocks now but he’s still a good dude. Johnny enjoys hanging around with Ben and giving him a hard time. What happened with the accident wasn’t easy on either of them. While Johnny has been feeling better since he got his powers under control, he knows it’s different for Ben. At the end of the day, Johnny still has his own reflection when he looks in the mirror. Ben isn’t as lucky. Maybe he doesn’t need Johnny harassing him, but Johnny’ll do anything to keep the mood up.

✗ FANTASTIC FOUR – It’s pretty sick to have an official team name with uniforms and a logo. After being cooped up inside for so long, Johnny was dying to get out and actually do something. Having that something be a superhero isn’t half bad. There’s a lot of attention and publicity that comes with the new gig; Johnny eats it all up because he was born for the spotlight. If this is what being a superhero is like, he can definitely get used to it.
