I fell in love with Alice almost immediately and I loved her sarcasm. Relistening to the episodes, her character comes across a bit different to me. She comes across as controlling and clingy, especially with Sam. She's also dismissive with him, I get that it's her way of coping but she could show some empathy when he's affected by a case? Some of her sarcasm seems more mean spirited than I initially thought. I still love her but she clearly has issues.

Seeing a lot of people are putting stock on Lena saying some forces are "benevolent". I know we're thirsty for a good guy power but let's not forget how often the Archive gang was told they were saving the world and all the sacrifices were for a good cause.

Chester (Jon?) my beloved.
I wanted to play with some effects in Clip Studio, and I thought what better way than with our favorite definitely not sentient computer voice.

Less a theory with evidence and more my personal pet way of sorting fears BUT
What if fears were sorted slightly differently in this world? What if instead of being sorted by the what part of the contents of the encounter were scary, they were sorted by what might cause someone to be scared by them?
“Hey Jack, what do you mean by that?”
I mean that in this scenario, Mr Bonzo would be filed under childhood. People that have skewed relationships with their own childhood tend to get more attached to spookies that have a similar theme. Think dolls and five nights at freddy’s and spooky nursery rhymes.
A lot of the statements occurring in The Magnus Protocol seem to stem from insecurities of some kind of another, whether those insecurities be financial, social, medical, etc which I think fits nicely with this more personal sorting system. Less about the spooky itself and more about who might be affected by it
Idk if any of this makes sense. I’m just sorta spewing words at this point. I would love to hear your thoughts on this

If Lena is to be believed - and I think she might be telling the truth - then I think it explains why the OIAR's filing system is so... nonsensical.
In TMA, when Robert Smirke developed his categorisation system, he defined the Fears as fourteen separate entities - this wasn't wrong, but it also, explicitly, wasn't right either. At what point does the fear of being alone in an empty space embody the Lonely more than it does the Vast? When does the fear that you don't know what's going on cross from fear of the unknown to fear that you can't trust your senses?
What differentiates Purple from Pink, and at what point does it change?
But in that same sense, because the Fears operate on a sense of dream logic and 'if it feels right, it probably is', I think Smirke's Fourteen separated the Fears somewhat - it divided them into more discrete categories and manifestations. Not enough to truly separate them, but enough that they felt distinct - and thus, became distinct.
Furthermore, it meant that everything got consolidated. Fear of the uncaring bombardment in a war came together with other Fears of general violence and bloodshed. The Fear of parasites, the Fear of filth, of germs and disease, of rotting and infestation all congealed into a singular force. In some ways this may have made them more powerful than they might've been.
So how do you combat these things? How do you make sure they don't grow too powerful, but at the same time, keep them in balance? You separate them as much as you can, as finely as you can. You don't want the terrifying serial killing children's mascot to feel like it's on the same side as other terrifying serial killers or terrifying children's mascots. Every division you can create is another fracture you can use to keep them from realising they're all working for the same general goal.
Then you keep track of everything, keeping things in opposition to themselves. If one thing starts to get too far, you balance it out with whatever seems opposed to it - I don't know what Bonzo is 'opposite' to, but the OIAR's higher ups clearly thought they needed more horrifying violence committed by Mr Blobby WIth Teeth to act as a counterweight.
We've seen what happens when an ambitious mind connects the dots and realises there isn't really a defining line between the Fears - and if someone's listened to the tapes, they might've figured out the same.
You can't eliminate them - but you can suppress them. And sometimes that's the best you can do.

Take on the “benevolent forces” mentioned in Ep 13
I think they’re inextricably linked to Jon and Martin’s actions at the end of archives. Old-universe Gerry was *convinced* there are no non-fear entities and I don’t think the answer is simply “oh he was wrong.” I think the old universe really did just have the listed fear gods and nothing else. The new universe however, has benevolent forces because of Jon and Martin’s intervention to reverse the watcher’s crown.
I’m not suggesting every instance of the “benevolent forces” is directly controlled by them - I do think that they are mostly powerless as Chester and Norris. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t cause it inadvertently.
It’s giving real Pandora’s box vibes, Chester and Norris being the “hope” at the bottom of the OIAR’s “box” of evil.
As a side note, just as the entities of the old universe could blend together, I think the good and evil forces in this universe can blend or at least “corrupt”. This is why we get so many statements about people enjoying their contact with the supernatural, even if it seems fucked up to everyone else. As I suspected, the theories about “desire” being this universes new set of entities may not have been entirely wrong, just a much smaller piece of the puzzle than we first thought.

Reasons why Jon Archivist is truly a character of all time:
Had the police called on him several times when he was a young child
Keeps his rib and the ashes of the season one antagonist next to his stationary drawer
Promised he wouldn’t get lost in tunnels and then immediately got lost in aforementioned tunnels
Has no clue what a joke is
Learned how remarkably easy it is to buy an ax in central London
Had to have two separate interventions
Told people his place of employment before traumatising them for life
The first character he ever said ‘I love you’ to is a cat
Allegedly participated in amdram
Watches documentaries and collects some kind of weird shit (my headcanon is Soviet Union postcards) when he’s not being a paranoid mess
Canonically looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks
Knows nothing about library science
Fell head over heels for a man that he hated until he learned he lied on his resumé
Has been referred to as Jesus or Jesus-adjacent at least twice
Asexual icon
Knows what a meme is and said “LOL” in the first episode
Rode on a merry-go-round sometime during his university days because he was in a weird place emotionally
Died for our Jonathan Sins
Is probably a computer now playing minesweeper with his boyfriend and evil 200+ year old boss
