The Calico Jack episode enlightened me to something very important and something I've seen other fandom writers pick up on, even subconsciously.
Lucius and Pete are the ultra-supportive gay couple who have your back no matter what or who you are.
When Stede makes Jack "cry", Pete's immediately there with "you made him cry :(" and Lucius follows up with "well, it was a sort of bitchy question >:("
Imagine Swede's showing off a new shirt he's made and yeah it isn't the best but as soon as someone says it's terrible, here comes Lucius: "Well, actually, I think it looks pretty fucking good and it's very creative and smart of Swede to use such clashing colours to make a statement. Swede, honey, it's gorgeous."
And then Pete chimes in: "Yeah and it obviously took some hard work! That's like amazing, most people would give up but he stuck it out! So what if it's not perfect, everything can't be perfect-- if it was, everything would be boring too! It looks really good on him."
Thing is, they do this to literally everyone. Someone criticized Frenchie's musical skills? Lucius buts in: "Actually, he's doing amazing, thanks for asking. He's very talented and he could probably be like a real professional playing in bars."
Someone makes fun of Oluwande? Here comes Pete, who canonically does not get along with him: "Hey, you fucking watch it. That's my friend right there and he's pretty great so I don't wanna hear you saying any shit about him. Keep your shitty opinions to yourself. Oluwande, don't listen to them, they don't know anything."
Someone makes a comment on Stede's lack of piracy skills and Lucius swoops in: "He's trying his fucking best and he's doing a good job at it! He's only just started, we all can't be experts as soon as we started, don't be a dick."
Even Izzy. Someone heckles him by calling him old and dried-up and here comes Pete: "You realize the reason he's an older pirate is because he's one of the best fucking ones on this sea, right? He's an amazing first mate!"
And Lucius, attempting to wrap his arm around Izzy's shoulders but he stops because he think Izzy will bite him, says: "He's not even that old! And he looks good anyway! I bet nobody else will look this good at 50."
So they aren't the bitchy ultra-critical gay couple. No, that's Frenchie and Wee John.
