So... what's this I hear of a DnD character with Hatchetfield lore...?
(Still have to finish Nightmare Time and see NPMD, but I'm not too vigilant about avoiding spoilers either)

ok so first off, yeah this is probably gonna be incomprehensible bc you havent finished nightmare time lmao
but for the campaign im in, i wanted to make a vampire warlock. to be a warlock, i needed to pick a patron. sure, i couldve just gone with "the fiend" (the only one the dnd site lets me choose), but i wanted to have fun with it. so, whats an eldritch being i know?
ok, thats too vague. what eldritch being would make someone into a vampire? well, vampires are creatures of hunger, no? theyre known for being insatiable, always craving more. so what eldritch being is known for its hunger? maybe this being has a connection to livestock... particularly pigs. maybe this being has its worshippers sacrifice the greedy pigs of society to it. now, what lovecraftian horror do i know of that fits that criteria?
meet lyra ellingham. a vampire, and the most loyal and beloved servant of nibblenephim, the one who feasts in the dark. each town she goes to, she finds the most gluttonous pig she can and sacrifices them to nibbly. this kind of behavior has gotten her a lot of malicious attention, specifically from the monroe boys (sons of a woman she killed), the hatchetmen (a cult that despises nibblenephim and all who worship him), and the witch of the webs (the sole survivor of a town lyra razed on a particularly ravenous day).
i took a lot of inspiration from hatchetfield (obviously) and a production of dracula i was recently in. id talk more about her (i probably will at some point), but members of my party might see this, and theres some stuff i want to keep under wraps for now

crazy word barf about scary marlowe and her potential patrons. under the cut bc i feel like this is going to be long
okay ive seen a lot of people speculating that willy might be her patron i just want to think about what the effect of that be and like. once its revealed that hes her patron (bc im assuming its all like "secret" like yeah shes a warlock with a patron but she doesnt know the exact facts of it like who her patron really is) what scary's reaction might be to have willy as a patron. bc despite her being emo goth punk and stuff she's not like. a monster or anything lol.
i wanna know if her reaction is bad enough that she "shuns" willy as her patron and loses her spells and maybe essentially tries to find a new patron? (which in this case will be either glenn or jodie or even nick) i think the revelation of having someone like willy take a shining to you and was the source of your powers would be pretty devastating i think. atleast for me it would be LMAO it would probably make her try to change her ways or something, like a wake up call.
also thinking if shes a fiend warlock then theres a very high chance that its glenn or jodie, the only real question is which one of them is her patron. to me i think despite jodie being a very powerful archdevil (im assuming hes an archdevil?) i dont think he'd be the type to have followers or give someone powers on a whim. GLENN however though, we all know how he is. he probably thinks its cool or whatever and lets scary do whatever she wants with the spells that he grants her LOL.
another thing i want to throw into the mix is the possibility of her being a great old one warlock. what if she draws her powers from the doodler? how crazy would that be. also in my head i kind of imagined anyways that willy (whos also a warlock right?) was a great old one warlock with the doodler as his patron bc of his connection with barry so. yeah
anyways thats it i definitely am normal about dnd and beth may's character in the new season of dungeons and daddies.

Tonight, My DM pavloved me into being afraid of goats: so my Roguelock has a fiend patron, one who often appears to her in dreams and visions in the form of a two-headed goat. These dreams are always disturbing, usually warnings or threats or directives, and my DM highlights the sinister, horrifying, hellish nature of these dreamscapes. Every time, he emphasizes the sound of approaching hoofbeats as a warning my patron is near. Flash forward to this session, my character is doing research 1/2

just tried watching a new (to me) d&d show
and in the character creation
the warlock. a HEXBLADE warlock. was led to believe they had to use their strength for their weapon attacks. they started with 8 strength and bumped it to 10 at level 4
but
but
THE WHOLE POINT of the hexblade is to use charisma for weapon attacks. that’s the thing. that’s the whole thing. thats the number one reason hexblade is a thing in 5e. cuz it sure aint the flavor that’s appealing, her whole background and patron stuff made it seem a better fit for the Fiend flavorwise. this poor warlock player. stuck with attacking +0 str (after investing their ASI into their dump stat!) instead of their primary stat. It hurts. It hurt me so much I had to drop the show then and there
#I try not to let rule misinterpretations hamper my enjoyment too much with live plays#but this is. SO egregious. SO fundamental to the character's effectiveness. Just. so painful
