you are alive, under his fingertips. there is warmth from your cheeks his larger palms hold and he gently guides you to lift your head so that you meet his eyes.

and they sparkle. they gleam and glisten under the light of his shared home with you. curiosity and worry makes them shine even more, the chuckle upon seeing them brimming his lips and leaves him.

is this an inspection, general? your playfulness is not lost on him. he replies in kind with the same energy, how would you feel if i told you i was inspecting how beautiful you are?

the embarrassment on your face squeezes his heart. makes his heart leap and fly as if it was soaring the clouds. even now, you have the instinct to act shy. it reminds him how vivid you are; how your emotions cross every spectrum. don't flatter me like that, you pout at him. you're flattering me so i don't ask you why you're cupping my face so gently.

it was not jing yuan's intention, but he makes it his own. hmm, you know me so well, he says smoothly. leaning down, a kiss is gently placed on your forehead.

and if it was some other moment, he would pull away. but today has been rough. goodbyes were said to the friends he thought were dead and now, he is all alone.

except, he is not alone. he has you.

jing yuan? what's wrong?

the worry in your eyes has become vibrant now; curiosity vanishing and replaced by concern. your eyebrows furrow and your hand envelops one of his, turning your head to kiss his palm.

jing yuan?

he smiles. nothing, he tells you. i love you.

and then, there is relief. your worry remains but is overtaken by the relief and you look beautiful. so beautiful that he reminded that you are here, here in his arms.

i love you, too, you idiot.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to inform you that after a solid month of consideration, compilation, writing, erasing, questioning and debating, I can finally present to you....

The List of Unique And/Or Weirdly Specific Yomiren Parallels (+ a doodle!)

- Stack generation for their most powerful attack that can be filled by ally/enemy actions

- Stupidly good signature lightcone and awful F2P options

- Dedicated 4pc relic set with stack generation and crit buffs that will take like 5 months to finish farming because fuck you

- Magical memory issues

- Best path(s) in Simulated Universe are not their own (Yomi likes Erudition, Ren likes everything that doesn't give shields- which several Destruction blessings do)

- Unique aspect ratio in character demo (thanks maur I owe you one for this)

- Silly haircut (emo bangs and split hair from the back)

- Appearance in relic lore (Yomi shows up in Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters, Ren is the Passerby of Wandering Cloud)

- Popular ship with a Wind user where they (un)intentionally terrorize said Wind user's mindscape

- No daily messages to the Trailblazer (the Stellaron Hunters yoinked Ren's phone for his so that doesn't count)

- Have I mentioned magical memory issues?

au in which:

-the vidyadhara high elders can get one bio!child per reincarnation

-yingxing gets renamed ren and nobody finds out the new blacksmith is actually the old one

-xingyue child takes dan hengs place on the express

(It a bit long sowwy)

1.xingyue child hatches a short while (a year at most) after egg being laid.

2.they grow up happily and healthy with their parents. Until they're about 10 or 15 (literal age not physical age)

3.then the high elder "revives" their friend without anyone knowing. Yingxing goes into hiding after it's discussed it's for the best while DF holds a (fake) funeral for his husband. And one for his friend baiheng. And no one gets arrested and or molted because it's technically only a crime if they catch you.

4.to further sell the lie, and because the preceptors keep insisting, and because of yingxings "persuasion", xingyue child is given to the preceptors to be raised "as they should be". Which includes borderline abuse because of course. But the preceptors give DF monthly updates. Not on the abuse of course. And most of what they tell him is heavily edited, read: a lie.

5.for some reason or another, xingyue child goes through hatching rebirth (probably starvation. I dont know if they actively decide to go egg or it just happens) the preceptors keep giving updates to DF, conveniently leaving out that his child, died,, and he has no choice but to believe them bc the moment he shows too much interest his plans will be ruined (for some reason).

6.when XYchild hatches, after like, a hundred years give or take, the preceptors decide it's best to not tell DF and just go on teaching (read:abusing) them. Unfortunately there's a problem™ and XYchild doesn't forget in the egg. And after a few decades, they go egg again! For the second time!! After DF went to hatching rebirth.

7.DF and YX deciding it's best to wait until xingyue child's hatching rebirth, and then when they get reborn (which will (assumedly) not happen until DF has also gone through rebirth. So then they can actually raise XYchild and they get the family they deserve. everyone wins! (Spoiler: absolutely nobody wins.)

8.somehow DF goes through rebirth. And YX starts building himself a name as the (longlife) blacksmith ren to keep the trauma™ at bay. "Oh he's just like yingxing!" "Dont be ridiculous, yingxing was way better." (Someone mysteriously dies of hammer to the face. By dan fengs angry spirit). Jing yuan sees him by chance and asks if he's yingxing and gets "i don't know him. Or you." But its obviously yx. And jing yuan pretends like he was mistaken.

9.DH hatching at some point. And despite being trained himself, the preceptors are still giving him updates on XYchilds "education" (you're still teaching them? Aren't they, really old??)

10.after a while (about 18 decades for legal reasons) DH meets the blacksmith ren and although he vaguely remembers, he claims he wouldn't fall for the man. Naturally, it's the first thing he does. Literally. Ren helps "his highness" up and it hits full force. Sparkles. Sunset. Jing yuan in the back pulling faces bc really? Right out here, where everyone can see you?? ("Right in front of my immortals delight!??")

11.they get married very quickly after that. How do you fall for the same man twice? You walk into the forge... and see the literal sweat drip down his body. Probably. Scandal after scandal over the new high elder falling for someone who looks exactly like his former husband. And ren plays it bc he's not yingxing, the prodigy blacksmith, he's ren, the guy IL fell for (and coincidentally also a blacksmith).

12.I don't know how timelines work. It's AU magic. When XYchild hatches, they get raised by preceptors. Again. So after two or three decades they (allegedly) accidentally kill a vidyadhara (not actually dead) because they were about to "teach" XYchild again and they defended themself. Long is dead, everythings lost, DF stopped caring about them (allegedly), centuries ago. They flee the country ship. And somehow get on the astral express after a few more decades.

13.when the astral express gets to the luofu, they are 80 (literally, not physically) and also refuse to board the luofu. But the others still go for some reason. XYchild also sleeps in the archives but occasionally in a room. Where they have. Weapons collected. They wear a mask bc they don't wanna be recognised (almost everywhere not only the luofu) and they fight using a halberd they picked up off a battlefield. Is there gonna be a tearful reunion? Maybe. Will XYchild get grounded for just leaving? Absolutely.

14.XYchild leaving the luofu without telling their parents who they are. "Yes, keen observation, i am a vidyadhara. My name is [notXYchild]. Farewell!!!" Before barricading themself in the archives. Do they want to go to a festival? No. It's in belobog? Still no.

15.as a finishing touch, renheng did adopt bailu, after she hatched, XYchild is visiting them, for a few hours each time (bc they're still scared). When everything is done, after the end of the game, they might come back, but they won't immediately live with DH and ren. So they move in somewhere else. Either with a roommate (like qingque. Or sushang. For example.) Or they move into the generals home. Until they're comfortable around their parents again.

||Replaying Jingliu/High Cloud Quintet Story Quest on my Asia. I don't think I ever got a chance to talk about my thoughts around it here.

Ignoring the drama around it, I am still a firm believer we will see more of Jingliu/High Cloud Quintet story continue in future patches. After all, the game hasn't been out for long (though it's coming close to a year now) and we have so much of the universe to explore. I do believe we will see the other Xianzhou ships and by then we might see more of Jingliu and Luocha.

That includes possibly more of the history of the High Cloud Quintet, more details of what Dan Feng and Yingxing had done, and Bailu role in all of this because whatever they did- Bailu is related to it. But ah, I'll talk about that in another post. (or rather in future Bailu/Dan Heng IL story quests related to Dan Feng crimes).

Speaking of HCQ,, my heart was very tender to hear Baiheng relationship with the other HCQ members and how important she is to them. She was a bundle of positive energy despite how horrendous her luck is and the reputation that came with it. I adore how she was able to bring the best out of everyone. In the case of Dan Feng, she is a good friend to him who didn't see him for his status but as a person just like anyone else.

For Dan Feng, to have lost an important friend, must've crushed his human heart. Perhaps the last straw with so many deaths and bloodshed in the Xianzhou war against the Abundance. He wasn't the High Elder who was praised atm, but a person who made a horrible choice out of desperation (I say desperation, but he did want to believe he made a correct choice until it was too late).

As for the reveal that Jingliu is Dan Feng closest friend, she definitely knows Dan Feng well enough. The implication of Jingliu recognizing Dan Feng spearmanship and questioning/taunting Yinyue Jun (Dan Heng) if the enemies around them aren't enough to interest him...They definitely did spar alot. I'll mention the Icor of Two Dragons and Dan Feng is sulking because he lost to Jingliu and that's just funny to think about how common it is between them.

The interaction between Jing Yuan and Luocha. I am invested in their dynamic since they are both playing 5D chess. But when Jing Yuan thought he had the upperhand, Luocha revealed being taken for trial is part of his (and Jingliu) plan. And Jing Yuan?? He looks amused, almost happy enough that he was beaten and takes his loss with grace.

When the HCQ, or what remained of them, finally gathered together for Jingliu to formally disband them and say her goodbye...It was rather bittersweet. The joyful memories they had together as a band of outcasts, a found family between them, are no more.

Baiheng is dead, sacrificed her life to save her friends and comrades-in-arms against Shuhu(?).

Jingliu is a mara-struck criminal, tethering between the lines of sanity and insanity, and she seeks to end Yaoshi for good.

Yingxing is gone, replaced by Blade, an immortal following Destiny Slave so he can finally have true death.

Jing Yuan, now an Arbiter General of the Luofu, who lost all of his friends including his master. They are still here, but they're not the same anymore. He feels useless, unable to do anything but continue to watch as Jingliu and Blade fight as he sees the HCQ are gone for good.

Dan Feng the criminal who committed the unpardonable sin, forced to through a faux-rebirth, leaving Dan Heng to shoulder his sins. Dan Heng, who tried his best to escape the shadows of his past but unable to.

NGL, I was watching the cutscene and the ending of the chapter with a heavy heart. I do want to see the story of the HCQ when they were at their best, the happiest before their fallout, and it will hurt me cause I know how it will all end.

Focusing closely on Dan Heng throughout the quest, I think after the quest- Dan Heng feels like he can't escape his past, as Jingliu said. The faint memories that linger at the back of his mind, his spearmanship, and everything that happened in the Luofu prior to that...

No matter how hard Dan Hen tries, he has to come to the fact he must accept his past. And he did accept that Dan Feng is part of, as said in the animation! But he will not allow it to dictate who he is in the present. This is just more setbacks in his progress I believe he'll overcome in the future.

After all, Dan Heng has too many unsolved answers of what his predecessor has done in the past regarding the Vidyadhara heritage and Blade immortality. He might not like it and it might be better for him to avoid it, but he is genuinely curious (and he is very much curious about his homeland since he lived in the Shackling Prison for most of his childhood and teenage ears).

Of course, there is the issue of his identity crisis. Dan Heng in generally confident in his own individuality. But events in the Xianzhou and with Jingliu left him with some doubts. Doubts that has been casted away after inquiring Jing Yuan opinion, who tells him that only Dan Heng knows the answer to his question.

and I believe, Dan Heng knows the answer too.

In regards to Blade, I think Dan Heng has connected the dots between Blade and Yingxing. But he has a hard time coming to terms with it because they are vastly different people. He's not too familiar with Yingxing, but he respects the man who created Cloud Piercer. He's familiar with Blade, but their meetings only end in bloodshed. The memories of being chased by him are still vivid in his mind...

But he knows at least Dan Feng is responsible for Blade predicament, for his (Dan Heng) predicament as well. And he feels like it is his duty to at least see Blade journey through the end because no matter how much he denies it- their fates are messily intertwined.

As to whether Dan Heng takes Jingliu information as the truth, he accepts some parts of Jingliu words as true. However, Jingliu memories are vague as well and heavily biased with hate/anger, some of the things she said could be from her opinion only. The same goes for Blade, as they are both mara-struck individuals.

And Dan Heng is Dan Feng reincarnation so by logic his predecessor memories are wiped out, or almost non-existent.

That's the end of my thoughts that no make no sense rambling like a madman.

P.S. I am Yanqing who looks so done with everything.
