Anytime I see a character who likes classical or performs classical music hating rock/metal, or vice versa, I laugh because all of the above genres have more in common than you think. "Opera singer/classical composer listens to metal and likes it" is a big reaction genre for this reason, and seriously, they spend a lot of time comparing what the song has to classical compositions and it's a lot.

you ever in the middle of using an app and suddenly think damn i wish the way this app is built was industry practice. anyway i feel like we need to acknowledge that bilibili exists and has
no video ads
background play/in-window play/video download as default (read: NOT PAID) features
collaborative video credits so like you can upload a video and directly credit other users with their roles like editor/voice actor/etc. in the created by section
and youtube also exists and is the way that it is

THE HORRORS OF GACHA. [HC]
gacha they would play and how they play. this is based off of the gachas i played, so apologies kek
warnings ‣ uhhahahha this may or may not be completely self-indulgent because i need writer motivation juice to finish up my more serious fics — enjoy this semi-crack hc that prolly makes zero sense
lmao (inspired from moot @anxiousgoddest bc this is kinda crack-ish) also my xavier bias may have leaked a bit too much in this lol. or maybe its just my proseka and ak bias bc i haven't played hsr in a while and it shows
xᴀᴠɪᴇʀ・project sekai
— you didn't think he'd get into project sekai to THIS extent.
— you piqued his curiosity when he heard you spewing out curses such as 'I FLICKED THAT' or 'OH, ONE GREAT? YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING' from the floor above his apartment.
— later on a date in destiny café he asked you what game made you fume like so. after a couple of minutes of embarrassed apologies and silent profanities at your apartments' thin walls, you told him about project sekai and its game mechanics.
— "tapping to the beat is very simple in concept, but it gets difficult?" you nod.
— "is it free to download?" you nod vigorously. caleb doesn't play it anymore and tara focuses on toya more than the actual game itself. you'd kill to have a buddy to discuss one of your favorite games, especially if xavier is that person in question.
— you two ended up skipping the claw machinery for plushies in favor of staying in the café and playing project sekai. you did slightly dread about how long you had to wait for him to catch up to you in terms of skill, rank and unlocked songs, however.
— "why is the speed so slow? oh, i can change it?"okay, maybe you don't have to wait as much.
— "i just have to skim through the archives to get the items needed to unlock songs, right?" huh, he's getting to know the ropes quickly.
— "i'll choose this one." he chooses expert and you almost laugh. while expert isn't difficult per se, it's nothing short of impossible to a rhythm game beginner, right?
— WRONG, WRONG, ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY WRONG.
— aside from the beginning where he hit a lot of greats and missed a couple of notes, he was improving by the second while playing the chart and ended with a combo in the hundreds.
— "this is pretty fun and helps with hand-eye coordination," he said as he full combo'ed the song on his second day of playing.
— "the game said i unlocked something called 'ranked matches'. what is that?" day three.
— "i've full combo'ed intense voice on expert, it was very fun." week one.
— god dammit, just why does he have to be good at everything besides cooking and staying awake ??? not even a month in and he got the 'mad skillz' achievement, something that took you over six months to get.
— now he plays it while you're at the meow café playing kitty cards, and your urge to throw your phone across Linkon City has only increased with the amount of all perfects and full combos he piled up.
— it didn't help that his gacha luck was so good despite him being so disinterested in the cards too. you still haven't forgiven him for pulling the entire colorful festival banner within 30 pulls while you got nothing from over 200...
ᴢᴀʏɴᴇ・arknights
— it all started when you were too lazy to reach for your phone and took zayne's instead to search something up. you got distracted by the small amount of apps and tabs he had until you came across an icon that looked surprisingly familiar... a fourteen year old girl with brown hair and ears? arknights??
— you bolted to your phone to immediately send a picture of this monstrosity to caleb, but damn zayne's good vision and movements — you couldn't even touch your phone. never have you seen zayne so flustered; he must've known you were planning to frame him over an app with an underaged girl as its icon despite you knowing the contents of said game.
— you had to stifle your laughter while zayne was explaning why the game was on his phone as if he was presenting a medical thesis — that much detail should suffice.
— according to zayne, he's actually someone who played this game ever since its release. he liked the strategic aspect of it and it was a stress reliever of sorts.
— he also played it because the main plot device for arknights, originium, reminded him of you and protocores, but he won't ever admit to this.
— post-interrogation (?), you took a look at zayne's account; and for someone who claimed that it was just a casual stress reliever, the claim was absolutely ridiculous.
— level 120. all medals obtained. all stories, challenge modes and game modes cleared. all of the operators maxed out and mastered. the six star operators only had the necessary potentials and masteries too — was he a cardiac surgeon or an arknights dev??
— also, just what about arknights is relaxing?? it's notoriety for its difficult gameplay amongst gacha games was nothing to sneeze at, and zayne's a doctor in real life! why in the fucking hell would he want to take a break from his job by playing as a doctor?!
— you ended up surmising that normies couldn't possibly understand geniuses.
ʀᴀꜰᴀʏᴇʟ・star rail
— you two were waiting for the release together ever since the pre-registering and beta testing, let's be real.
— but GOD, rafayel's so laughably terrible at this game despite it not requiring much skill.
— what's even worse is that he's a whale. a big one.
— even when you explained how seele was destined to fail in long-term meta due to her gimmick's trigger conditions, rafayel slammed his credit card down for her, claiming it was "good investment" and that you were just one of those meta-haters.
— and fastforward to addition of the newer characters, you completely steamrolled rafayel's claim. granted, seele was hardly what you'd consider as terrible by any means. but to rafayel, who plays with quote in quote "only the best of the best", it was pretty funny seeing him scowl at DHIL a couple months later.
— seele's been gathering dust since, by the way.
— rages over chests. he couldn't find that one chest at cloudford and the divination commission and he was about to break his pc. this ain't even genshin with hundreds of chests per region. though, in his defense, cloudford was really annoying with all of the contraptions, and it was easy to get lost in the divination. no seriously fuck that shit
— don't get me fucking started with simulated universe. while he eventually learned how to manage through the stages, the process in getting there was quite painful for him to experience and for you to watch.
— one thing that didn't change, though, was his ridiculous luck in terms of artifact-pulling. crit rate, crit damage, energy regeneration, atk increase – you're convinced the game knows that rafayel's a huge spender and they're rewarding him for his services.
— well, he'll manage somehow, even with his all-dps team with zero sustain or support. heh.

shutters, thoughts on lingering echoes' story?
the moment that personally hit me the hardest was czerny seeing the wall and accepting that, no, he couldn't rise above it, and wouldn't ever, but that didn't matter to him. like, man. had to put it down for a sec, cus there's always going to be someone better in everything and the weight of child prodigies and being content with what you have. and the backstory behind the naming of afterglow as well.
I really liked it actually. Love having a complete and standalone Arknights story, with well-defined characters, a plot that's actually easy to follow for once, and of course fascinating worldbuilding. it's great to finally see adult Hibiscus after focusing on Lava for so long (it really is just Fang left for a future alt huh), and I didn't even mean to get Ebenholz, but after finishing the story I just had to grab him.
There were a lot of moments i really enjoyed in the latter half, but this is the one that really got me.
This was what it was all about. Lingering Echoes' trailer told a grandiose tale about the rise of the Witch King, his reign of terror that lasted a century and a half, the war with Gaul that became the continent-spanning War of Four Emperors, then finally the Witch king's defeat at the hands of the Twin Empresses.
But Lingering Echoes itself isn't about any of the grand battles and and history-defining moments that shaped the fate of Terra itself. It's a small, personal story about people still attempting to move on from the wounds that the Witch King left behind, how there are those who would do anything to bring such a tyrant back, and how ultimately not even the Witch King's unrivaled power in Arts could match the strength of friendship and love between people who found each other through /the/ arts.
Czerny, Kreide, and Ebenholz quite literally battle the power of the Witch King through their shared passion for music. I especially liked the part where Czerny realizes that the Witch King's Arts, the bastard's sole chance at a resurrection by taking over someone's body, exists as the notes of a song. Even when Czerny interacts with the Voices and is shown a vision symbolizing how puny he is against the might of the Witch King, he pushes those feelings of inferiority out of his mind and mentally sets his opponent as himself rather than the Witch King, because he refuses to fail from such a simple thing as lacking the necessary talent or power to win when he could save the two boys if he just pushes himself to his limits.
Then when the concert is done, and Kreide wins the self-sacrificial Mexican standoff the three of them get into for who would be the sacrificial host for the Witch King's powers, Kreide spells out how they'll defeat the remnants of the strongest caster in history.
The Witch King's power appears as a voice in Kreide's mind, assaulting his senses and forcing him to bend, telling him that his entire life was pain and misfortune and unending misery in a process that seems eerily similar to how the Deathless Black Snake broke Talulah.
But no matter how hard the Witch King's power howls and how right it is that Kreid's life has been suffering, he'll deny that his life was defined by that torment. Not when he felt kindness from strangers. Not when he met a teacher who taught him to play the Cello and love music. Not when he got to meet Ebenholz again.
That's why Ebenholz can't lose to the Witch King. Their rebellion is against the cruelty of fate itself. What can the Witch King's remnants do to people who were doomed by history and yet still found ways to be happy?

i was gonna make a thing about "lullabye" from the arknights ost but halfway through i realized i was wrong so instead im just gonna post the intro melody vs. the verse melody and say how much love how simple the opening is, its all very like....expected and plain chord movements,
Fm -> C -> Fm -> F -> Bbm -> Fm -> G -> Fm
like the G at the end is a good twist, but like, change that to a C and its literally the same chords for the tetris theme. literally just using a lot of 1-4-5 chord patterns
but then you get to the verse!!! and its !!! all switched up!
Fm -> Eb -> Db -> C7 -> Fm -> Db -> Caug -> C
like its a song in a minor key, but with that darker tone in mind, it just does a lot of step downs (F to E to D to C is like going lower/down for me) with nothing but major chords. this really gives the song a dreamlike feel for me, the ear knows its supposed to be dark but youre hit with several "happy chords" in a row and then immiediately going to C7 (could also be an Edim), a super dissonant chord and commanding bass notes, its just like... a strange clash/mix of emotions. like it makes me think of something trying to make you feel safe when you absolutely should NOT trust it and are not safe
anyways this songs super pretty. i love the chords, i love the melody. love the it everything. heres the full song if anyone wants to listen and compare or something. im using 0:40 as the start of the verse

Arknights anime thoughts
(Very minor spoilers below, but it’s only if you are completely clueless to the Arknights storyline in general)
Pros:
Extremely faithful adaptation of the game story, down to lines directly pulled from the game itself; if you don’t have it in you to read the story then the anime will get you caught up to speed in no time
Beautiful animation style, especially for something entirely made in-house and is HG’s first big animation project
Drama? They know how to do it! Frfr, they will punch you right in the chest with feels moreso than the game managed to do
The Doctor is very NB and while I know that pissed off the fans who really wanted an unambiguously male protag, it fits with how the game wants everyone to be able to self-insert regardless of gender
Gives a much needed spotlight to Operators who are kinda glossed over in the game, like Franka and Meteorite
Amiya’s inner struggles as she tries to reconcile her power and her idealism are absolutely fleshed out in the series. That poor girl is going THROUGH IT 😭
Cons:
Action scenes need a LOT of work. 🤧They have dramatic set up with minimal return and I feel they don’t showcase the martial prowess of our Operators well enough. Ex: Ch’en is a master swordswoman. At most, we see her jump into the air at enemies while yelling, or cutting through gates with her sword. All the scenes where we coulda had some kickass fights kinda fall flat or awkwardly end to transition to another scene
This could be connected to the previous point, but due to Chinese censorship, HG isn’t allowed to show blood or anything really graphic in the animation. Which, if you know how brutal AK’s storyline gets, seems to be a big handicap. They’re doing alright despite it, but they get REALLY vague on some things. Ex: when Mephisto was burning his victims in that Chernobog building but the anime couldn’t show the bodies or mention what exactly it was he was doing… so it just looked like he was an arsonist to an abandoned high rise and then suddenly Meteorite was gagging at the smell
The intro song to season two is TERRIBLE. Like… I can’t remember the last time I skipped an anime intro because I couldn’t stand the song LOL! The ending song is much better, tho.
Overall:
Awesome anime if you’re already a fan of AK, but I can’t really recommend it to anyone who doesn’t already play the game. 🥲 AK’s lore and story is so fantastic but it can be a slog to read through at times, and ofc not everyone’s gonna be into tower defense/strategy games either. Kinda hoped the anime would put AK on the map to those who would never play it, but idk… I think people would be bored after awhile because it’s not flashy like JJK or Demon Slayer.

for the ask game: 8 (a quote that means a lot to you), 1 (the moment you started shipping your otp), and 17 (a worldbuilding aspect you have the greatest admiration for)
Fandom (8)
I can't just not quote my favorite quote from NoriZC's scrappaper collection on Saria and Silence's arts; "Because grass and rocks always complement each other over time." It's just beautiful, simple, it's peak, I love it. But it's not in the game or canon so let's throw it away
I really like Frostnova's song, Lullaby - and my favorite quote in this song is "In your dream, in your dream, are you seeing formidable adventures? How will you grow up, little one? Who will protect you?" (Unofficial translation but I like the wording better) It just. Speaks to me to a level I can't imagine. The fear of growing up, to be alone, to have to face the world and life by yourself
And if we don't count songs, a quote I LOVE from Reed's module's story: "Ever since, the fire never truly went out. It burned within (their) eyes, inside (their) heart, in the night of every festivity. [...] Slowly, (they) became used to the heat, to the scorching that stabbed through (their) body with each breath. (They) believed this undying flame would be with (them) for life, even chasing (them) in death. Until (they) received this present. (They) realizes, and it startles (them). So there were people who'd still try to put water on these raging flames." (I they/them Reed, apologizes) It's just beautiful I think, the metaphor of the fire as their pain, and people who cares about them, trying to put it out. It's beautiful
Fandom (1)
OK THIS IS FUN BECAUSE. The answer is before I ever started the game. A friend of mine showed me some characters, specifically Liberi, because they know I love birds SO MUCH. And they showed me Silence, I immediately fell in love with her design. So they told me a bit more about her, mostly how she had a child and was incredibly divorced from Saria. The thing is. I thought it was canon. Like that they REALLY were divorced, canonically. I simply got a lot of affection for these characters and aimed to get them in game, all together.
But if we speak about when I really really started to get into it, my very first ship fanart of Sariasil was done in March 19th this year, so like a month or two after I started the game? And oh god I never stopped drawing them since then
If anyone wonders, this is the first art I drew of them, I never posted it as it was done before creating this blog. Notice how my artstyle changed AHAH
Fandom (17)
Everything. No seriously, how am I supposed to pick only one.
There's many aspects I love but it's just, how all of them just answer to each other, how this world lives, outside of the main story, how everything is linked together and how the world move. I admire this as someone who tries to build a world for a story.
But if I have to pick one, I'd say the political stuff behind each faction. I suck at politics, so I admire this a lot. Arknights has been a huge inspiration for my own project, and I started to think more about politics in my own universe. Just like what I said above, each has consequences, each has influence, and that's how this world lives.
And most of all, each artist behind have their own part, they work together and create this world together, and that's beautiful to me
