7) Who’s the most underrated SJM character? Amren. She's not my favorite or close to it, but she's slept on because her romance with Varian happened in the background and she's not that ship-able, so she gets ignored by the fandom. But even when she's being harsh, she's usually right, and she doesn't get enough credit for ruling the Night Court in Rhys's stead for fifty years.

10) Favourite bat boy? Rhysand, love of my life.

30) Who are your favourite friendships to write about? Rhys and Elain are my faves! It's just so funny to me that they're roommates who barely know each other, and I like imagining all the little domestic nonsense that goes on with them in between all the saving the world and magical drama. I'm sure there are times here and there where it's just the two of them in the townhouse, and it makes me smile to imagine Rhys hanging out in the kitchen while she's baking or Elain finally feeling more like a resident than a guest and leaving him passive aggressive notes when he's being annoying.

But I also really like imagining friendships between Feyre and the Valkyries! Gwyn and Emerie are always going to be Nesta's friends first, but I think they'll end up spending time with Feyre socially too (especially if Emerie and Mor get together). Feyre might be a badass High Lady, but she's also Nesta's little sister, and the thought of her being excited to hang with her big sister's cool friends is really sweet to me.

Are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is?

I like my rarepairs and I like my villains! I also like to make the fandom blorbo morally dubious, ha. In BG3 I really, really enjoy Gale, and love putting him with all kinds of people.

Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?

I'm terrible at knowing what are fandom tropes but AUs have to be from trusted writers to me. I only like kidfic from certain writers who understand the nuance of the characters and kids, if that makes sense? And childhood sweethearts, again only from a trusted creator who understands what that dynamic adds. I'm the opposite of a lot of people I guess ha, I only trust sweet concepts in the hands of people who really understand the character dynamics.

What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?

I feel like a broken record because the last fic I read was Storm Warning's new chapter! And YEAH I RECOMMEND IT HAHT DAMN! Before that it was Respite by @plethomacademia but again I'm biased because it builds on some Gale/Lae'zel/Shadowheart stuff me and @smoreofbabylon were thinking of so of course I'm going to like it, great writer and a concept I'm actively interested in!

4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?

Mostly music! I listen to certain playlists and find ideas within them. For example, even though I haven't shared it yet, Four's backstory in Snakes and Waterfalls is heavily inspired by Copperhead Road. As funny as that is lmao

7: what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?

I loooove aquarium. We have a real big oceanarium in my city, and I go there all the time. It's so calming and dark and beautiful. My favourites would be manta rays, jellyfish, and sharks. And the tropical, colourful ones! And the penguins and otters!!! It's hard to choose, really. (I'm always on my animal crossing museum just to see the fish. It's so peaceful haha)

11: anything from your childhood you’ve held on to?

Hummm, I have a number of things, from plushies, to jewellery, to books. My two favourites would be this Hans Christian Andersen book with some of his stories (I got it during a school fair on 5th? 6th? grade). And a huge Hello Kitty folder I have with a of my drawings, sketchpads, scribbles, etc from age 3 to high school. Irl I'm an artist, and this folder means the world to me for a multitude of reasons.

13: first thing you’re doing in the purge?

If this was a few years ago, I'd probably give a super edgy, smash-cars, set-things-on-fire answer. The truth? I'd just do a grocery run and stock up on essentials, get a few indulgent snacks; run to the nearest manga/book shop and get all my favourites; and get some new clothes. If I have time, sure, go to an electronics store and have fun, but yeah. Nothing too crazy lol. (I will smash a Tesla if I see one though, no mercy)

28: last meal on earth?

This is SO HARD. Maybe a really good ramen?? Maybe a k-bbq? Maybe ask my mom and grandma for their homemade food?? Yeah.

Or just, a really, really nice sandwich cut in half, with some crisps and a juice box. And a chocolate/gummies for desert.

i love keysmashes. i love knowing that i rendered such an emotional response that a person doesn't even have words they just have KSLDJFLSKDAFJ... because i know what that feels like for me when i do it and knowing i made someone else feel that way is super gratifying and puts a big ole grin on my face... i also really love when someone picks up on something super subtle that i put in a piece and expounds on it.. @heartstopping-waves is notorious for this. her comments always astound me because she picks up on intentions behind story decisions and then yells them back at me in infinite detail. sometimes she catches things that i didn't even know i was consciously doing. she's incredible. i adore her.

i don't think there's anything that i wish i'd gotten feedback on.. as far as like concrit or feeling like a story didn't get as much love as i expected. i try not to have expectations at all as far as comments & kudos... that being said there are some clues in the path from you that i keep waiting for people to pick up on but i haven't seen any comments about them yet.. that's been the most fun for me. hearing people's theories and dropping little hints about random things along the way. i'm always so surprised by what sticks out in a person's mind after they read a chapter, because there are things that are common and then there are things that i never would've thought in a billion years that someone would latch onto. it's a very humbling experience.

Campaign 2 ftw!!! Honestly like... I cannot even let myself get started extolling how much I love campaign 2 but oh my god. Do we all know the post about that quote from Alison Bechdel about her mom giving her the feedback "It coheres"? That is one of the highest compliments I can give any piece of art, and campaign 2 really does deserve it. Narrative perfection. Thematically iconic. There are nein of them! Which brings me to...

wizard: what is your favorite party name

It's the Mighty Nein. I know I sound biased, but hear me out: I simply believe that any other party name is the wrong answer to this question. Speaking of thematically iconic, like, the Nein's name paid off on so many levels that it is simply impossible to top. THERE ARE NEIN OF THEM!

Chestnut - crafts: she draws, as part of her interest in insects! she starts out replicating what she sees, so that she can label them properly, and graduates onto creating her own fantasy insect species. she has assigned everyone in her family an insectsona as well, and drawn them as their sonas.

games: she'd like games with collection elements in them, like animal crossing or pokemon. i don't know that she'd really pay attention to plot too much, because she'd get so distracted just collecting things in the environment.

Buzzy - crafts: photography!! he reads about it and builds his own camera. he thinks of it more as a science than an art, as he's very interested in the technical aspect of it, but as he gets older he does start to appreciate the aesthetics a bit more.

games: he'd appreciate video games from a distance, but he'd be more adept at puzzle games than anything with action in it. he could probably manage breath of the wild, but he'd be in it for the shrines mainly.

Duunai - crafts: does gardening count as a craft? she follows in artemy's footsteps, and tries to fill in the blanks with isidor's recipes as well. but sometimes doing things with her hands is difficult, because her brain and her hands don't always work together. she'd probably benefit from learning something like knitting, where she has to slow down and be more patient.

games: oh she would love video games. she'd try her hand at all of them. i could see her being a big mortal kombat fan, and a fan of soulslike games. she loves a challenge! and the biggest challenge for her would be getting sucked into things and forgetting to sleep. her untreated adhd era.

Karol - crafts: i'm not sure that i've actually given him any hobbies yet. he's very focused on his work, and i think at first he's got some internalized shit to deal with because he doesn't want to be misgendered by being into anything deemed too "feminine". svetlana would drag him out to art museums and the like, trying to inspire him to get into something.

games: i think the only games he'd be into would be visual novels and text-based choose your own adventure games. he'd enjoy games made in twine, but overall he'd be more interested in studying the gamers than the games themselves.

Svetlana - crafts: she'd be big on arts & crafts because she has got to keep her hands busy! she doesn't even really care if she does them well, she just finds joy and fulfillment in doing them. she's a better musician than she is crafter, but she's made a couple decent scarves in her time. she's got candles in her flat that she's made from scratch and a couple really terrible bowls too.

games: she'd also be interested in studying gamers, but whereas karol would study gaming as a sociological phenomenon, svetlana would study what happens to brain chemistry when people play games. then she'd try a couple games herself and see what happens! she'd play based on recommendations from her friends, but the way she'd pick what order to play in would be based on soundtrack. and she'd probably really enjoy playing pathologic classic.

Frost - crafts: in his actual canon i don't know what he'd do, craft-wise. i don't know that there's anything that he's made with his own hands before. it would probably fix him to pick a craft up. i think when i play around with putting him in the present, though, i make him a tattoo artist with really macabre tastes.

games: he'd also enjoy games that present a challenge. he wouldn't mind tedium in games, as long as it feels like he's actually making progress. he'd also really like classic games and be a big of a snob about it, at least at first. it would take a lot of convincing to get him to play a modern big-budget game. it's not even like he can't afford it, he just would look at the price and think "oh there's no way in hell this game is actually worth it."

😅- well honestly I deleted my cringest story about a year ago and it is now archived somewhere deep in my Google docs. It was a Hawks x Reader x Endeavor fic that was three parts. The title was cringe and the whole thing just wasn't planned out very well

🦅- I try my best to outline! Trying to have some organization helps me keep things in line but most of the time the characters and scenes have a mind of their own, I'm just along for the ride.

🤗- advice I would give would be don't limit yourself! Write whatever you want and don't put yourself in a box. Writing something you enjoy truly is key to having a successful story because you put your all into it. And it's not all numbers, just because something you wrote and posted didn't get a lot of likes does not mean it wasn't good! Don't be discouraged!

💞- oh wow I have so many lol Shoto, Mikey, Enji, AngelDevil and Aki and lots and lots more. (Um also Simon "Ghost" Riley from COD but I don't talk about him that often)

😍- Favorite Character to write is probably Enji. I got labeled as a top Enji writer pretty quickly (and unexpectedly) and he's just fallen into the muse category. I feel alot of freedom writing his character and hopefully don't make him to ooc lol

🤲- Hmmmmm well I guess I could.... Knight Enji WIP it is

 Enji had a direct view of the door to the chapel from where he stood posted to the King's left beside the window, and he thinks he might have been the first to see you in the doorway. It was suddenly very hot underneath his heavy armor and he was thankful that he didn’t need to wear the helmet because he might have fainted. Was that his heart hammering behind his eyes, through his fingers tips, and toes? He was sure he died and somehow made it to heaven, broke down the pearly gate, and clawed his way through the clouds to get a glimpse of the angels as you walked through the held-open doors and seemed to suck the air from the room. The closer you got to the alter the more dry his mouth grew, the more his big hands shook, the more his stomach knotted. The stained glass of the church windows glimmered against your skin. Red, Blue, Green, He traced your features in every color, etching your beauty into his memory as a keepsake forever. He would crave it into his flesh if he could, down to the bone so after he’s dead and gone even the worms would know his devotion.

🤯- Genre I struggle with is any sort of mystery. I really don't know why I can't think of good plot twists to save my life. I usually have to talk out my plots with my husband

💔- an old Levi fic I wrote that I never released and is still archived in my docs. It's bittersweet and I just love him so much it hurts (also Oni's Heart pt 3 after readers been taken and Enji is depressed for a bit. Sad.)

6. Favorite romance novel(s).

Ok I'm going to use this as an opportunity to GUSH

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon - This book is EVERYTHING a good contemporary romance should be. It's funny but none of the conflict feels goofy or contrived. Even through all the humor, the characters feel like people and the choices they make are all organic. There is nothing at all that feels blatantly manufactured for tension. It's wonderful.

Whiteout by Adrianna Anders - Tropey romantic suspense at its best. Heart-pounding the way that a good action movie should be but also there is SO MUCH PINING. The characters are falling in love in the middle of a race against time across Antarctica, so they literally spend half the book unable to expose any skin without risking frostbite and the tension of them wanting to bang just builds and builds and it's a fun, wild ride.

The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang - Genuinely one of the most heartbreaking books you'll ever read; it's one of those books that breaks you down and builds you back up and does end on a positive note. I admire Helen Hoang so much for not pulling a single punch with this book. I think it's gutsy as hell, especially as the follow up to two rom-coms.

The Obsession by Nora Roberts - This one is definitely dated and I probably wouldn't actually, like, recommend it. BUT I have a total soft spot for it because it's such a "Nora Roberts being Nora Roberts" book. Yes, the serial killer plot is goofy and predictable and everything about the main character renovating an old house is a really hamfisted metaphor for her finally Putting Down Roots instead of Running From the Demons of Her Past but it's La Nora, the prose is just so damn readable that I found myself immersed anyway.

There are only two ways I ever find a new book: either a. I scroll the Libby app until something makes me go "eh why not?" or b. enough of my friends with good taste say positive things about a book that I decide to read it.

I wish there was a fun answer to this, but nope! There aren't any single moment that's changed her life in that way.

9. Is your character’s current socioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up?

Yes, definitely! Vivi's parents are dentists, which is a middle-class income in Armorica. This has been an issue between herself and Jacques -- they think very differently, and he's not really willing to try to see things from her perspective.

16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?

Success. He's got the things that are supposed to make you happy and he's still miserable. So might as well just try to win. SORRY i forgot who you asked about and answered that one for Jacques lmao. FOR VIVI, happiness! She would like to be happy...

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about- it’s not like, pervasive, but i see a lot of people ship silver/blaze and i just can’t wrap my head around it at all. blaze Is a lesbian to me and i think that silver is honestly too young and too focused on The Mission (whatever crisis he may be facing at any given time) to have any interest in dating at all.

18. it’s absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…- SONJET AND THE BABYLON ROGUES IN GENERAL. the babylon rogues’ designs are some of THE coolest new characters to emerge from that particular era of sonic, and they are literally so underused all the time that it makes me sick. you mean you designed an entire team of ALIEN DJINNI BIRD THIEVES? WITH HOVERBOARDS? and you’re just going to let them languish in spin-off game hell or an occasional feature in the comics? evil!!! evil!!!!!!!!!! and sonic’s dynamic with jet is just SOOOOO so good not to mention how complementary their actual character designs are. if i had my way there would have been a mainline sonic game with playable team babylon AGES ago and also sonic and jet would be married. but alas.

11. how many fandom-related words do you have filtered— not a lot, but more because i keep forgetting that filtering is a built-in feature now than because i’m super fandom tolerant or anything like that. i think right now i only really have voltron stuff filtered, but i’ve been meaning to add a bunch of supernatural words/tags/etc to my filters for ages (love and light to my spn friends 💙 i just simply have too much personal baggage with the show)

Fanfic Ask Game

😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?

Ooh, that's a great question. I keep thinking I'm going to get shit for my propensity to just take as many characters as I can and make them all kiss at once (the curse of the polyam author: why should I pick A Pairing when I can make them ALL fall in love no matter how long it'll take for it to develop?), but so far everyone's been really respectful and just steering clear of my writing if the ships don't suit them, and I really appreciate that!

I've got several more chapters to get to, so I'm not sure what people are going to react well to. I'm, again, pleased that no one was rude about a female OC popping up for development reasons. Maybe my overuse of adverbs? Maybe how much emphasis I put on erotic writing for character/relational development? Maybe that Beej isn't going to be a perfect cinnamon roll nor is Hawk going to be unguarded from the very start with him?

This'll be an interesting thing to revisit when Scratching The Itch is fully posted and when I write the first sequel in Beej's POV, I think.

🌙  What time of day do you prefer to write? Why?

I like writing right when the caffeine from my morning chai kicks in. It shuts off a lot of my second guessing and just lets my fingers fly.

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

Aaaaaaaaaaall my goddamn backstory for Beej and Peg as it pertains to Some Things Are Evergreen. How much of that might end up written as a flashback and how much is just going to be secondhand info and how much might get its own fic? Who's to say? Right now we just have arguably unreliable narrator Beej telling Hawk exactly as much as he wants him to know, no more and no less, but that'll have to change eventually.

There's also the "Hey so why isn't Trapper reaching out to Hawk" business going on in the background of the Some Things Are Evergreen verse, buuuuut that's for me to know and for the readers to find out EVENTUALLY!!!

The door to his litterbox was closed cause we're trying to save heat, as one does during an energy crisis. Normally he just asks politely for us to open said door by means of screaming.

Now he still had to receive his breakfast and probably was to afraid he might miss that moment of glory, so instead he decided to forgo the screaming-door-poop moment and just do it right there.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

yes indeed! my original idea, that has some scenes buried somewhere in the bowels of my google drive still, was for max to find herself stuck in a single alternate reality and she teams up the alternate versions of the party + eddie to help her find el in hopes her powers can send max back to her reality. that then evolved into max stuck in a reality where she never moved to hawkins and eddie was guiding her through it, it's a wonderful life style. but my brain wasn't vibing with that outside of exploring the max & eddie dynamic. then while at the beach on a family vacation, i got the inspiration for the scene where max and eddie are sitting on the beach of lake michigan and talking about reality-hopping and finding home. my next google search was "astral plane" because i wanted to vaguely connect it to D&D lore as our beloved kids do in the show and i finally cemented the plot of the fic! there are some little hold-overs from the old ideas though! i have eddie reference being max's guardian angel when she and el come to bring him back from the astral plane for the final time. and in the original single alternate reality version, max discovers she's dating dustin, not lucas which i used in one of sutd's many realities!

2: What scene did you first put down?

the above about the beach scene being said, that scene wasn't actually the first thing i wrote in the google doc! this was: “This is it.” The sweet smell of her mom’s marinara simmering on the stovetop wafted from the kitchen and her dad’s Beach Boys record, scratchy with age and love, sung softly from behind the door of her parents’ bedroom, joined in harmony by the rustling of her dad digging through his dresser drawers. Max curled her toes into the shag carpet, planting herself there hoping to grow roots, and said, “This is home.” “Max,” Eddie pleaded, his tone tender and bruising. Her mom had the same ache in her voice when she told a smaller Max that her dad wouldn’t be back for awhile. “What else do you want?” Max asked. They had everything here, everything time, and illness, and monsters who bit off more than ankles snatched away. This was the reality without storm clouds and riptides. This was the reality where what she built stayed. “It’s not about want,” he said, a crack on the final syllable. “I can’t handle love that’s supposed to be for someone else. Jesus Christ, I can barely handle it when it is meant for me.” that last line of dialogue was the first thing written (and went pretty much unchanged through editing) which leads me to...

what i discovered while writing this fic is how great alternate realities are for exploring the concept of love and specifically how it’s just that: specific. even when max and eddie hop into realities very close to their own and that are populated by people who are fundamentally the same as the people they care about in their own reality, the love they’re given in those alternate realities isn’t the same and doesn’t feel right. love is built on shared history and, without that history, the bits of love max and eddie get from lucas and steve (and, to an extent, everyone else) ring hollow. and it hurts! in the final scene of chapter 2, eddie stops an alternate steve from saying “i love you” because he knows it would crush him to hear something that doesn’t belong to him and he doesn’t want to have a memory of steve saying it to him for his brain to masochistically play back and think “but you’ll never have this for real.” max similarly feels like she’s robbed another version of herself by hearing lucas say “i love you” basically, what i liked best about writing “standing up the dead” was getting to dig into why experiencing the multiverse would actually be an elaborate torture of the acutest kind

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

as i mentioned in my first answer, the max & eddie’s dynamic was the driving force behind me writing and sticking with this fic. they’re neighbors! they both have bad fathers! (that throwaway line this season from max about her mom sending her dad the letter she wrote him, if she could find him??? ouch!) they’re the primary victims of the season four narrative! after the fights they put up, they deserve to live (but only after i torture them with other versions of their lives that are equally terrible if not somehow worse)! and most of all, i just think they could have really bonded and liked each other. max deserves a good older brother figure and, while i do love steve filling that role, i think eddie would understand aspects of her home life in ways many of the others couldn’t. oh, we could’ve had it all......
