I would Love to hear about tessa

okay so! in case people don't remember my old werebats idea (literally, i don't blame you if that's the case, it was A While ago), the basic gist is that centuries ago, vampires, werewolves, and humans were at war with each other. but eventually, things settled down and now in our current modern day the three species co-exist together in relative peace. shit gets stirred sometimes, but nothing as bad as the all-out wars from generations long past has occurred. more under the cut!

but naturally, once things calmed down, relationships began to form between species. this is where our protagonist, tessa crowley comes in (btw, tessa crowley was the name of an antagonist in my old idea, but i decided to give it to the protagonist this go around For Fun). tessa is the 12- soon to be 13 year old daughter of a werewolf woman and a vampire man. tessa's mother, ophelia, has a family with a history of being Very Friendly with vampires if yaknowhaddimean, so she's got quite a bit of vampire dna in her despite otherwise being an average werewolf. and tessa's dad, alfred, while not having as much of a monsterfucker family as his wife, still has more werewolf relatives than the average vampire. family reunions are fucking wild with the crowleys.

but anyway! tessa has some vampiric traits, but not enough to be considered a full vampire. so al and ophelia naturally expect that tessa has inherited her mother's lycanthropy, which always awakens in werewolf children on the first full moon after their 13th birthday. but when tessa does turn 13, something,,, different happens. instead of transforming into a wolf-like beast on full moon nights, tessa finds herself turning into a bat-like monster with a thirst for blood every night, the intensity of the transformation being based upon how full the moon is that night (yes i stole this straight from the hatchetwolves au shh). in short, tessa's bizarre mix of vampire and werewolf genes have made her into a rare mutation between the two species. a werebat.

so basically, this New And Updated version of the story revolves around tessa learning to understand and control this new and unusual side of herself. dealing with everything from the normal problems that all 13 year old girls go through, to the more supernatural troubles that come with being a rare genetic mutation between two monsters. whether it be getting her blood cravings under control, trying to find other werebats, or dealing with antagonistic figures who are none too pleased with the new mutant in town. part slice of life, part horror!

if it helps at all, I wrote the first draft of my ybc video in February in a week and it basically sat around as a draft for two months before I got excited about it again and finished the project. I've taken a Lot of breaks I didn't intend to with WTDD cuz of burnout too. it sucks, it's so frustrating, but it's better to let it sit than try to force it. take it easy! <3

yeah, i just get Really Nervous when it comes to taking breaks from my fics bc i never know if it's gonna be like a normal length break or if it's gonna become another dtfiles/sdttww situation. like, i'm sure it won't for CLaR bc the brainrot for this fic is still Strong, but it's still something that nags at my mind whenever i take breaks.

tell me about a movie you like!

i ended up falling asleep before seeing this, so i'm no longer in 2 seconds away from a panic attack mode. BUT i do appreciate u sending this so i will answer it, thank u ceej <3

okay so my taste in movies isn't,,, particularly interesting. it's mostly animated films rattlin around up there in my skull, and nothing particularly obscure or out-there aside from like. one or two fondly remembered cult classics. so my 6 am brain is just gonna ramble abt animated movies that i like for a hot sec.

uhhhhh let's see, i haven't watched it in like over three years, but i fuckign love the iron giant. good-ass movie right there. i enjoy don bluth, tho i haven't actually seen any of his post-all dogs go to heaven films in full (what i have seen Isn't Great). i think the only like, golden age bluth film i haven't seen is secret of nimh which is weird bc it's like, almost unanimously considered the best one. but yeah, i really liked american tail as a kid (dunno if 20 year old me would still vibe with it), i still really like the land before time (and i have regrettably watched all 13 sequels, don't be like me), and all dogs go to heaven is p decent (even if it has about as much business being a musical as,,, the 13 land before time sequels do).

uhhhhh, i do love me some stop-mo, of course. i don't really have a favorite movie these days, but coraline is definitely a contender. i really enjoy corpse bride despite the,,, tim burton and johnny depp-ness of it all (the songs are mostly kinda whatever tho, except for remains of the day, which fuckin rules). i haven't seen wendell and wild yet, but i really. should do that. i'm bad at watching new movies in a timely manner.

case in point, i finally watched klaus for the first time on christmas eve (only took me what, like three years?), and that's also a good-ass movie. fuckin' gorgeous animation too. and i've mentioned before how much i enjoy mitchells vs. the machines, GOD. most comedy in animated movies these days doesn't do it for me, but tmvtm found the secret sauce. and the secret sauce is gravity falls writers.
