Reposting this because of how very important the message is: I’d like to introduce you to Bethany Lawson, a 16 year old daughter, sister and friend. In August, Bethany became one of the over 4600 people per year, age 12-24, in the US to take their own life. She was a beautiful soul with a huge heart who, for one moment, thought the world would be a better place without her. She was wrong. She left behind friends and family whose lives were impacted and made better by her every day. All it took was a moment of hopelessness for them to lose her. It took just a moment for her to do something that can never be undone. Some who read this may have contemplated or even attempted suicide. If so, please take an extra moment before you act. Reach out to friends, family or even a total stranger to talk. Know that there are people whose lives are better for having you in them. The last thing we want to do as parents is have to fight with our children. So why do we fight. A case of right and wrong, poor behavior, them not living up to our expectations? Fighting doesn’t get any results it just raises stress levels for us as parents and makes our children resent us. So would you rather be loved or right? That is the question we need to start asking ourselves before we engage in a battle that nobody can win. So the next time our egos want to get the best of us to win that fight against our child. We need to stop and reflect. Check our ego, check our emotions then determine how we are going to help them on their journey of life and teach them something.
